10 years ago, Connecticut artist, Scrapp Nyce had an opportunity to be the vocals to a now hrammy nominated song by Kendrick Lamar, Backseat Freestyle. A song that is played in multiple tv shows and moves and the part you hear the most, the most iconic part is from Scrapp Nyce, after blessing the track with his own creativity and artistry. The TDE love what was sent over. But you must wonder, where is Scrapp today? Where did that opportunity lead him? well we brought him to tell the story from his own perspective, not from the eyes of outside or from the “i would’ve done this if it was me” people. He is blessed for his opportunity and a decade later there is no hard feelings and musically he is now thriving more than couldve imagined. According to him the curse from the TDE team has officially been lifted. A curse that led to him understanding the music business more, for what it is, a business and to starting his own label.

Monz Finito is maybe one of the best story tellers we have had on the podcast. Meaning he gets you really hooked as he tells his stories. he reenacts the very scenes for you to make you feel like you was there while it was happening. This man is most likely the loudest one in the room, BUT he has something to say at all time. One of those few cases, where the loudest in the room got some profound and interesting things to say. He tells us about what brought his first project since coming out of jail and just gives some insights on who he is, not just as an artist but as a person as well. He loves making music and he loves performing. No matter the setting you can count on him always being himself.

Oshane travelled to Peekskill, NY for a podcast collaboration/takeover with Encore Pod, featuring the great personalities of Poncho and Kyd Works. While there we of course had to drink some amazing whiskey which helped facilitate the good vibes that came with the new friendship. I took the opportunity to dive in the mental processes of both men, we talked about adversity, internally and externally. We discussed if there was an importance in having balance in opposition. Poncho is is very chilled individual but that doesnt mean you can fuck with him. Kyd Works is exactly the same person no matter the room or who is in the room. He talked about the battle with his kids and how he shaped him to be a better man and a better dad. Talked on dealing with the Russians and going to jail changed his mindset and played and key role into who he is. And so much more. Both these two individuals are the voice of many who feel voiceless.

One of the first, if not currently still the only black owner of a marijuana dispensary located in Manchester, CT. We was blessed with the surprise of him showing up. Shout out to B. Davis for lining this one up. We had one hell of a time This man is an inspiration in so many ways. A natural born hustler from the trenches and literally made something of himself regardless of his circumstances. He is the walking definition of making the right choices. Our environment doesn’t always have to have a hold on us and who we are and who we become. This episode was full on laughter with the proper amount of motivation and inspiration. They dived in what got the frontlines docuseries started and what motivates him to do it as well as the future expectations for the platform. If men have multiple women “pen pals”, is that considered pimping? With him being the dispensary owner we had to tap into the conversation on what are the characteristics of good weed, despite preference, which boils down to, POTENCY, TASTE & guess the third characteristic or just listen to find out. This conversation in totality was very refreshing and very engaging. Also learned of acceptable posing for when taking pictures in jail. Mazi pulled up on us with the gang and em fresh out of the studio. She said she was basically in the studio for 3 days straight, no sunlight, just straight putting work. Maxi said this is the year you see what her consistency means. She said she is here to take everything the music scene owes her. WHO COMMIT MORE? MEN OR WOMEN? We had a good time, we allowed her to say all o the weird things she wanted to open speak on. We had to ask where she stands with hearing more and more women deepen their voice when they are rapping, especially with her acknowledging that her voice naturally gives the cadence that people are gravitating towards for female artist. WE got to take a trip through Maui mind and she was open and comfortable with us. Maxi would never let none of tyou other rappers ghost write her anuything, but if Beyonce was to come to her with some written, lol her state changes, after all, Bey is the goat of it all. We did touch on something I think was important, therapy in the trenches, is it needed? Should it be spoken on more? And is two people who went through similar situations discussing it openly a form of therapy? Or even just a good starting point?

When I See You, I Don’t See Color

Do you know what I don’t like?

I don’t like when a white person looks at me,

Then confidently verbalizes when they see me,

They don’t see color.

It throws me off.

Because when I look in the mirror,

Color is the first thing I see.

I don’t have time for mental circles.

My beautifully blacked face represents royalty like the color purple.

But I do have one question though.

If you look at me, a black man,

Where the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice,

And a dream for every dollar,

What do you see if you don’t see my color?

Do you bypass the idea of innocence existing beneath skins that make colors pop fuller?

When you see a lion,

Do you not acknowledge its dominance?

Please don’t confuse my intelligence for ignorance.

When you tell me you don’t see my color,

Is like telling me you’re looking through me,

Barely seeing me.

I mean the entirety of what makes me free.

Then again I never really understood what that statement mean.

How could you look at me and not see color?

Because when I speak,

I articulate like a black scholar?

From that perspective,

Does not seeing color make my energy seem smaller?

Do you subconsciously only see us as maids and butlers?

I wonder.

However, that isn’t the point.

When we’re stopped and frisked you see my color.

Even when unarmed my skin is still a weapon.

Do you take the time to see from our viewpoint,

That being born black is a blessing.

The complexity within my complexion isn’t enough to justify your unnecessary retaliation,

Fueled by hate and aggression.

Talking about you felt threatened.

Fuck that.

I’m convinced by now,

You are aware of what you’re doing from the first to the last second.

You tell the world our hearts are cold,

Omitting that yours is much colder.

I know when you see me,

The very first thing you see is my color.

Fuego Base's Day Live Recording

Fuego base released his latest mixtape, Say Dat 3 and the entire city and then some came out to support him. His release day consisted of a meet and greet and then a live podcast recording with us of course before then going to DTLR in Manchester for his Meet & Greet hosted by Hot 93.7. We the second sit down with Base, after now being signed with Bsf Records, and taking on the name, BSF Base, we discuss a few things. We talked about how Westside Gun was glowing in the desert like he was an angel due to his chains being so bright. We of course had to talk about him referring to himself to James Brown because he sees himself as the hardest working man in show business. From his perspective, the way snitching in the game has not changed, it’s still the same as it’s been, no matter how much media platforms try to make it seem like things are changing. He sees himself as the chosen one, like Harry Potter. Base is a very avid reader. He loved reading while he was jail. It contributes to his wordplay and metaphors used within his bars. We also touched on his Rolling Loud performance and he elaborated on how blinding the lights was from his POV on stage and how that played a part into his performance.

On this episode with Jayrock Jax, we had a great time per usual. We had the opportunity to meet this gifted, talented and intelligent young man. His music has substance. It’s like bringing water to place everybody is dehydrated. Talking with him and hearing his perspective on life in general and how he see the trajectory of his career was refreshing. And like we told him, when he finally connect with home, his music is going to automatically, and subconsciously transcend his music to a new level that’s going to take the world quicker than the worst storm we have experienced. This is why we do this when somebody is on the path and journey he is on i think it is important for a platform like ours to highlight the person behind the rise. The environment, the air will just change something in him. And coincidentally that was something his dad told him as well. So it’s only destined. At the end of the day he is a creative. If he would have a dinner with Jay Z he would just take the money. We would take a honorary doctorate. He talks about some of the best moments he was able to share with his parents being along the journey with him. His parents are heavily involved and supportive of his career. When your parents can co-sign your music and help push and is proud of it as they brag about you, that’s a win already within himself. His relationship with his parents is a spectacular thing to hear about and how involved they are meaning, allowing him to blossom as an artist and as man. We personally think his career will reach levels that’s unimaginable because we he is meant for absolutely great things

I got a poem.

Go ahead. Read that. Yeah.

Okay. It's called mm-hmm. Put that dick down.

Was I really that freaky? Or was my pain that sneaky? I don't remember joy. I kept waiting for the d*ck to go deeper, reach higher, knock on my heart and say “You're still alive.”

Kept thinking if my arched my back high enough, kept my head low through my weight back, he'd catch me if I fell in love. The last woman I tasted was a healer. I thought The juices on my cheek, the elixir on my tongue rolling down my throat would cure my broken heart. I spelled help me against her clit.

Maybe she couldn't hear me over her cries, so I tapped Morse code into the thighs, resting on my shoulders. He said he liked my lips and I assumed he wanted to hear my mouth as if the voice to my inner truths and secrets would create a bridge between our souls. And when he said, say, ah, he thought my throat game was just crazy, when really the hands of my insecurities had wrapped themselves around him, tried to pull themselves up outta me by showing how good they were at this.

I never asked if they wanted my pain to busy trying to bargain with my boundaries for getting the windows to the solar, not the hips, but the eyes. So I never looked there scared. I'd see some version of myself that disgusted me, but the blind will do blind things. Unable to look. They will touch, taste, feel, peel.

You open, spread you wide. Explore your corners and the braille of your composition. But if my pain isn't on the page, if that wasn't part of the plan, if that's not in the script, if it's just a lost footnote, I get it. Now. You wanna be inside of me, but you didn't ask to go that deep. Boom. Damn. I love the double Andre that came with that.

Damn. And just so you know, it's exactly what I was expecting it to be by the title. Mm. And then so, mm-hmm. All right. I'm gonna hit you with the long one and I wrote. This one is actually really, really personal.

Mm. I like personal.

It was Marquel’s birthday and it was a special day so we had to bring in a special personality. He brought us gifts that every adult that drinks would absolutely love. He brought wine and whiskey and then we took shots on to of the shots we took before he showed up. We was lit before we even started recording. When we say we love what we do because of the people we get to meet, this episode is literally a reflection of that. We had some bumps with the scheduling but i was never worried at all. There are some people that we just are meant to sit and talk with, but with Nick, we just were straight laughing. The way he so nonchalantly state certain things is by gosh, freak hilarious. Just the comfort in how he carries himself is dope. He is about having fun and making the best out of every opportunity presented to him. You also want to hear the confidence he has behind his record “Wandering”. He speaks a lot of behind the scenes things that came in place. As well as his team coming together to make the music happen and basically breaking out every skill and trade that was needed to get it done.

You cannot speak of Weaver talents shows without mentioning this man and the song that came from there, a song we all still play to this day, a song that changed the culture for us almost overnight, a song that got the attention of many, a song we all know as SUCK FOR THE Nookie, with infamous line, SHE LOOK LIKE HALLE, TREAT HER LIKE WHOOPI! At first he wanted to move pass it but now he embraces it as being part of his journey as an artist. Now he continues to give us nothing but god talk. He is a man the practices what he preaches in his lyrics. We was able to get a front row seat to questions that talked about his football journey, he tells us one of the best life changing advice he has gotten from a coach, we even learned he one time did a song with J. Cole and everybody know Oshane is a huge Cole fan. The conversation was absolutely phenomenal. We even got to slyest his perspective and approach in regards of sex even with his partner. When he was starting his videography path, and just his path in seeking creative expression, he had the opportunity to be one for Titanium Radio, 89.9. There was able to experience the magic with his personality once on air. He takes over the conversation that leads to great content and comfortability. It was an amazing learning journey. And to have the circle come all the way around and to have him on here to switch roles was something we enjoyed. We touched on a lot of deep topics such as time and what it means to him, of course we talked about the aliens. Gotta bring up the aliens.
