 last fall, after opening email invitations to some beautiful artist retreats, i reached out to my beautiful artist friend, jessica libor of the creative heroine podcast to ask about her residency and art trip experiences. as we talked about what we loved most about each experience, we began brainstorming what would make the perfect artist residency for us.  we realized that many of the artist retreats were geared towards beginners or aspiring artists...wouldn't it be amazing to focus on professional women artists and add mindset and business growth opportunities too! what if it was a mastermind of sorts, an intimate community helping and enjoying the journey together?! as we made a list of all the things we'd include, we decided that if it didn't exist, that we'd need to create it ourselves -- and that's how The Nature of Creation: Artistic Awakening artist retreat for professional women artists began!

a french pastry shop! what a dream to paint this sweet painting for the sweetest of families. special thanks to todd, carl and carsten -- todd for his craftsmanship, problem solving and for all three of their support!! they are the best -- soo much grattitude! i'm sharing some raw and personal stories of our older kids -- teens and two are now adults. what a joy it is to be their mom - to learn from them, to watch them and to cheer them on! from homeschool, alt high school, culinary school, home mtc and more -- hear all about the challenges and surreal joy that comes as they have followed their hearts. god has truly sent this sweet generation for a time as this -- because THEY knew these kids could handle it, face the hardships, fall at times and ultimately thrive thanks to our savior and redeemer jesus christ and the guidance of our heavenly parents. love love love them! soo much happening in the utah art scene right now: make sure to go to the 135 show & four lemons, 1000 show, the compass gallery and the utah masters studio tours. it's a great season to enjoy and support art!

a few years ago, an artist who i love and admire shared with me that her family felt she shouldn't be "already" experiencing success in her art career because she hadn't "put in her dues" yet. this was mind-blowing to me. if there was ever a place to find your biggest supporters, it should be your parents and family -- especially when your parent is an artist!! i'll be sharing some thoughts on this experience and a couple others of mine and that have been shared with me. sometimes it really is too easy to look at our own perceived "lacking" situation and simply decide that it's either not our fault or someone else's fault. but who really has the power and the responsibility to change our situation? what can we do to fix things in our own realm?

dear friend, artist, and the director of the springville museum: emily larsen and i chat about 17 of the 276 pieces in the 100th annual spring salon. she also shares with us the great heritage and some memories associated with the springville salon. springville museum is truly the art center of the state of utah. so much goodness converges in this sweet space and thanks to all that are associated with it: the collectors, the donors, the artists, the visitors, the families that bring their young children, the quilters and quilt lovers, the students who participate in the high school show and the outreach provided by museum staff -- on and on --!! together, we make up a beautiful tree, working together and supporting one another in our quest to create and support creation. the overall spirit of this show is felt by all the 1450 pieces created and submitted to this exhibition. as you visit online and in person, you'll feel that creative spirit that is prevalent in utah. this spirit is what encourages and supports us all as we continue to create. it is a living and breathing organism. and thank you to each of you who constitute this wonderful spirit of creation in utah!!

what are the best places to buy art materials? there are great places online and locally but i have found buying in bulk to be the most helpful for me. do you ever think about "world peace" and what that would look like? which are more important to you: peace or agency/free will? which do you think will make the biggest difference in our world?

loss, betrayal & change — everyone I talk with is grieving someone or something. grief is an uncomfortable but necessary part of life. when we don’t face or work through our grief it can come back later with a vengeance interrupting or triggering us at the most inopportune times. it’s normal to be affected by grief time and time again, but the more we bravely walk through it or talk about it, the easier it becomes and the more we can learn from the experience. what are you & your loved ones grieving? what helps you most as you process your grief? who needs your help most in their grief?

how do you feel about the moon? are you fascinated with its phases and how it so beautifully interacts with nature? did you know that there was a time (and there are still some cultures) that followed a 28 day, 13 month calender? how would that change the way you interact with nature?  what would that look like for women and their typical 28-day cycle? what would it be like to have the same days of the week fall on the same 4 dates each month? would that alleviate stress & anxiety? if dec means 10, why is it the 12th and final month in the year and oct means 8 when it  represents the 8th month? and what if the beginning of the year was really in springtime and april? what is april fools anyway?

what a treat to have sage gallagher and jenna mae lineweaver share their experiences with generous kathy and paul! kathy recently retired from an incredible career at the sears art museum where she and paul graciously and endlessly supported the community in southern utah, artists and collectors. what a gift to spend time with appellate lawyer, mother of 3, and author emily adams! if you've ever wondered if your prayers aren't being answered the way you would like or thought they should be answered -- if you've ever felt like your relationship with God has been stifled -- if you've ever felt like your framework of faith is being tested or is crumbling...emily's experiences and resources will not only remind you that you're not alone, but you will be invited to get uncomfortable, face your doubts and fears, and will offer tools to help you move through this experience with greater confidence, hope and ultimately, peace. many have written about faith journeys, spiritual questions and even faith crises -- most are presented after the author's "trail of faith" and successful conclusion. emily courageously offers her perspective, raw feelings of angst and hope, and the desire for more in the earliest stages of her doubts and questioning. her vulnerability reminds us that this is part of the human experience -- a spiritual journey -- and that while we may not all face these spiritual challenges in the same way, it's actually more common than we have been told, and can be a powerful way to reinforce the faith and testimony that we currently have. sometimes that requires uncomfortable reexamining of our tradition, culture, and supposed beliefs. we may even have to tear down some of the framework in our testimony to rediscover our foundation of faith in God. what can be extremely painful and triggering as we go about our usual routine and participate in traditional worship, as we wrestle or sit with God -- wait upon the Lord -- allow His omniscience and deep desire for our ultimate growth and happiness, we can find ourselves closer each day to the truth, peace and joy we're so earnestly seeking. so many thanks to emily for so bravely sharing her experience and the skills she's gathering to help her continue on this noble quest. enjoy!

are you a frequenter of art & etsy style markets? we have some really great ones in northern utah – my favorites are the utah art market and the beehive bazaar. collectors can discover new local artists by enjoying these handmade market venues. a red pill based on a recent joe rogan podcast interview with bret weinstein that asks us if we have a line for forgiveness and if we've come to terms with our choices. and my latest list of things i’m avoiding so that i have time to paint. sometimes the best way to get more time to do the things we really want to be doing is to minimize what we’re committing to do – asking ourselves, do i REALLY have to do this? what would happen if i didn’t do it?!

mcarthur krishna of “the girls who choose god” books as well as the “girls & boys guide to heavenly mother” books (see CANDYcolored studio podcast episodes 82 & 83) is always inviting us to elevate our minds and souls as we truly “become.” she and gallery program director esther candari put their heads together after the latest “heavenly mother” art show at “writ & vision” in provo to create a new art show and experience. mission accomplished ladies!! mcarthur’s beadwork welcomes you to sacred ground throughout the exhibit journey. she invited 11 other artists (including esther and myself) to create work for the show, “doorways to divinity” (a woman’s journey). take the journey in person until november 29th (tues - fri 4 to 8 pm & sat 12 to 8 pm and make appointments to visit the show during the week of thanksgiving). for an online experience, check out the writ & vision show page and link to the full catalog below. in the upstairs gallery, you’ll find a fundraiser for our dearest artist friend mary brickey (episodes 167 & 40) who lost her lower leg in a serious motorcycle accident last week (all proceeds go directly to mary). we love mary, this community and are so grateful for this journey we get to take together. enjoy the show!!

sharing my latest nightmares, lol -- probably the most bizarre yet. as an artist, is the income you're bringing in coming from various sources? how do you know which ones are best for you and where to put your time? do you have kids in public schools and how is your community ensuring that proper material is available to them? did your public schools participate in "banned book week" and how did you feel about it? i've got a ton of questions on this subject -- not a lot of answers, but i thought we could put our heads together on the topic and see what we think. speaking of opinions, did you see the recent senate hearing with big tech, josh hawley of missouri and louisiana's ron johnson? they revealed weekly email communication between government agencies (cdc) and big tech facebook (meta) regarding misinformation and how to control/censor certain topics, opinions and accounts.
