<itunes:summary>In this episode of Smarts Chickens, we are joined by Ethan Beute, Chief Evangelist of BombBomb.

BombBomb is a platform that humanizes the experience of communication by using face to face video tools that many of us are already familiar with!

Ethan Beute discusses the importance of getting crafty with your messaging strategies and a video format is a big proponent of their continued success. The technical jargon and conventional methods of sending cold emails is, as Ethan describes “not efficient in targeting and addressing the needs of your consumers.” Blocks of text that don’t have a face to the messaging will go unnoticed because it’s hard for consumers to see the value in what they’re getting

Ethan addresses how BombBomb mitigates many of these setbacks; coupled with the new book “Human-Centered Communication, and Digital Pollution”, which he wrote to further explain how to combat these antiquated methods of outreach. By keeping the experiences personal and meaningful, it allows entrepreneurs to stay engaged with their consumers even in the midst of this remote environment where many of our interactions are conducted through virtual means.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In this episode, we are joined by Jay Maaraoui, CEO of Vyyer.

Vyyer is a technology company that invented the first anonymous ID verification and they are also a product platform.

To date, Vyyer has accrued a variety of accolades. They are about 100 times faster than other privacy platforms, such as Trulio.

Jay goes into detail, discussing how his inner entrepreneurial spirit and family upbringing, inspired him to start the business.

As he states: “In Lebanese culture, there are a lot of entrepreneurs, my father as a prime example of what it meant to be a true entrepreneur.”

Jay’s vision with Vyyer is to go above and beyond in promoting practical and efficient security measures, when it comes to our privacy and security.

One of the biggest turning points for starting Vyyer, was due to someone stealing his sister’s identity when she was young.

Jay discusses a wide array of topics. Chief among those is the huge loopholes in the banking industry when it comes to security.

As it relates to privacy and compliance, Vyyer is breaking the mold and going about conducting these procedures in a manner that is in the best interest of everyone who is involved.

As it stands now, many companies are utilizing the same cookie cutter protocols when conducting security and privacy tasks.

Jay discusses how privacy is a “fear-driven consumption”, but that other companies like Trulio, aren’t doing enough to guarantee the safety and well-being of its patrons.

Users want to be presented with a fair choice when it comes to these matters, and this is where Vyyer is doing its due diligence in being innovative and ahead of the curve.

<itunes:summary>In today’s episode, we are joined by Guillaume Moubeche or “G”, Founder of Lemlist, which was launched in 2018.

As Guillaume describes: Lemlist is the first email outreach platform that allows you to automatically create personal images and videos for your campaigns.

They also have the capabilities to help you jumpstart relationships by making your cold emails highly personalized and engaging from day one.

You can also streamline and automate your follow-ups, put repetitive tasks on autopilot and be up to date with all of your tasks and objectives.

Lemlist’s list of accolades is continuing to grow. Guillaume has brought the company to a point where it has amassed “8 million in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) in 3.5 years time!”

His community has been dubbed as the “Lemlist Family”, as being consumer-oriented is what it’s all about for G and his expansive team.

To date, Lemlist has 10k+ customers worldwide, has hired 40+ people for the team, and not to mention, all of this has been achieved without funding.

Guillaume even mentions that he turned down a “30 million dollar venture capital investment”, in order to focus on organically growing the business and prioritizing the interactions with the customers.

G is a firm believer that having the funds is not what will make or break a business, especially if this is a journey that you’re in for the long haul.

As he puts it: “Stop raising funds. Go build your product and engage with customers.”

G goes on to discuss that entrepreneurs should run the business the way THEY want to run it, and any outside involvement can pigeon hole the framework of the company.

      <itunes:duration>00:55:39</itunes:duration>
<itunes:summary>In this episode, we are joined by Justin Keller, who is the VP Of Marketing at Terminus.

Terminus is a leader in ABM (Account-Based Marketing), which is responsible for powering high-performing marketing teams.

Justin is a force multiplier when it comes to leveraging B2B marketing for Terminus and the clients they touch.

His goal is to depart from the conventional methods of B2B Marketing, by focusing on pain and messaging points that consumers are truly passionate about.

In fact, Justin is so passionate about consumer involvement that he decided to host and co-create a virtual event that is designed to address the outdated measures of outreach for B2B interactions.

When crafting this virtual event, he wanted it to embody a “Coachella” of virtual B2B engagement.

This virtual event was dubbed “Break Sh*t”, and it dispels the point that conventional B2B Marketing and “sales funnels” are effective.

“Break Sh*t” takes a deep dive into analyzing the traditional methods of B2B Marketing, explaining that all social media channels and outlets know how to hit the right areas, but for the long-term, it’s not something that will yield conversions or consumer loyalty.

The methods by which we buy products and services are always changing. The traditional funnel is linear, and this approach is not ideal when it comes to showing consideration for your buyers.

As Justin so eloquently states: “Marketing is not just about operations. It’s about brand identity and understanding the soul.”

He understands that B2B marketing at times can be like a black hole, of sorts. His goal is to work around this to make it more interesting for the consumers that are actively involved.

Justin also goes on to discuss how these initiatives can be hard to enforce if you’re under a CEO who is unwilling or unable to understand how marketing works.

He discusses ways to work around this and what the future looks like for B2B marketing capabilities.

<itunes:summary>In today’s episode, we have a very special guest Gabriel Lim who is Co-founder and CEO of Saleswhale.com a Sales Engagement AI platform, which helps to not let the middle of the funnel leads fall through the cracks.

He's a software engineer from his academic and professional background which led to his curiosity playing around with Gmail's APIs and TensorFlow deep ML AI to build and become the co-founder and CEO of Saleswhale.com

Saleswhale and the team were accepted to be part of the Y Combinator class of 2016 and he's been building out a platform ever since. Saleswhale's platform works nicely to help marketing and sales teams drive more revenue via automating intelligently their middle-of-the-funnel neglected leads to nurture them into SQLs in a more scalable and pragmatic matter.

We deep dive into his founder's journey taking an APAC SaaS company fully into the U.S. market.

He also shared with us his pragmatic and scientific method approach to creating powerful and relevant content strategies to build up the right type of sales demand for Saleswhale.

He's a true practitioner of what he preaches and with his marketing team has created a very interesting master-class webinar series, think podcast-style content in a webinar/office hour typesetting which features and highlights some high-level SaaS experts.

He unveils what process he follows to get the brand growth Saleswhale has been able to reach over the last year or so, it's not rocket science, but it does take some pretty smart planning and execution.

Gabriel also shared his philosophy on how to prepare your sales team and leadership team for failure, if you don't have marketing campaigns fail, you're likely not experimenting enough and he clearly describes his stance and process behind calculated failures. </itunes:summary>

We discuss his origin story from dropping out of high school in Canada and creating his own path to success as a solopreneur, we delve into his point of view around Category Design, why it's the only true path to differentiate and win big in today’s highly competitive market place.

He also shares the top decision-makers who have to embrace Category Design as a business and go to market strategy, and yes it's a C-level, but you’ll be surprised by his answer. He delves into what Category Design is not, so executives and stakeholders don’t fall into pitfalls of category design confusion. He also describes how Category Design can shape culture, describing Eddie Yoon's missionary versus mercenary mentality around work culture. We also have a very special cameo by a furry feline, which shows Christopher Lochhead’s incredible awareness of detail and saved one of nine lives of Bean, his rescue kitten.

He also gives us some of his book recommendations to get exponentially better and he shares the advice he would give or reflect on to a younger Christopher if he could go back to the future, there’s throwing down the rope and Counting Crows reference to his answer.

<itunes:summary>In today’s episode, we have a very special guest the God-father of MarTech strategy, Scott Brinker, VP Platform Ecosystem at HubSpot; Editor at chiefmartec.com; Program Chair of MarTech

He has lived through the intersection of technology platforms and ecosystems and marketing strategy and operations spanning over two decades.

As VP Platform Ecosystem at HubSpot, he shaps the company's platform strategy and leads business programs for its global technology partner ecosystem. Before that, he was the co-founder and CTO of ion interactive, a SaaS company that pioneered interactive content for global enterprises (Cisco, Dell, DHL, General Mills, Microsoft, etc.) and was acquired in 2017 by ScribbleLive out of Canada.

Since 2008, he’s also run the Chief Marketing Technologist blog, chiefmartec.com, with over 50,000 readers, analyzing topics at the intersection of marketing, technology, and management. One of his best-known projects is his creation of the Marketing Technology Landscape, mapping the growth of the marketing technology industry from a few hundred vendors to 8,000. In 2014, he launched the MarTech conference, where he currently serves as the event's program chair, bringing together a community of thousands of senior marketing operations and technology professionals.

He’s the best-selling author of "Hacking Marketing," published by Wiley in 2016, and co-authored of the article "The Rise of the Chief Marketing Technologist" published in Harvard Business Review. I am a frequent keynote speaker at conferences around the world on topics of marketing technology and agile marketing.

We discuss his origin story from a software programmer teenager in South Florida building multiplayer games within bulletin boards, to graduating with a B.S. in Computer Science from NY’s Columbia University and also earned an MS in Computer Science from Harvard University and earned as a Sloan Fellow his MBA from MIT’s precious Sloan School of Management.

He’s been a successful entrepreneur with a successful exit of his own SaaS company, Ion Interactive in the interactive content space, to his recent role as VP of Platform Ecosystems for Hubspot and the changing mar-tech landscape and trends shifting towards big data to big ops side of things, the great App Explosion, AI and Harmonization between Humans and Machines, which he’s dubbed the augmented marketer, no-code citizen creators, and the rise of platforms, networks and market places. The next few decades are sure to propel incredible growth in digital marketing.

He also gives us some of his book recommendations to get 1% better and he shares the advice she would give a younger Scott if he could go back to the future.

<itunes:summary> In today’s episode we have a very special guest Ryan Leschel, Digital Content Marketer at the JM&A Group a division of JM Family Enterprises a $17.1 Billion diversified automotive company, ranked # 20 on Fortune’s largest privately held companies list, as well as #26 on Fortune’s Best Places to Work lists.

He shared with me what the content marketing team has focused on during C19 and beyond to strategically and creatively better serve their customers (dealership owners, c-level management, F&I and sales management), to make their dealership partners improve the buying experience during these unprecedented time in the automotive industry.

Now, I know Ryan because I had the pleasure to work with him and I quickly realized he had a knack for writing pillar content and understanding the relationship to demand generation strategy. I also got to know him on a personal level, and know he’s had an incredible experience, serving our country in his early 20’s across the globe with the Marine Corps.

His content marketing background includes being a successful intern with ESPN (Radio Broadcast team), producing interesting content based sports shows and events, managing over 40 demanding clients and their content/SEO strategy at a niche boutique agency in South Florida and now he’s working with the 8,000-pound gorilla in the automotive Finance & Insurance niche space, with JM&A Group, where he and his colleagues in the marketing team are developing all the demand gen and educational thought leadership content to drive sales growth in the billions for their partner dealerships across the U.S. in the process.

We have a very real and candid conversation around his view of Content Marketing targeted to the changing demographics of the Millennial and Gen Z automotive consumers. Also we explore the unique paths his team took during C19 to differentiate themselves from other folks within an ever-increasingly competitive and noisy automotive financial services market.

He also dives into how his time spent around the globe as a Marine Corp military man and his journey has shaped his work mindset, leadership style and so much more both at work and in his personal life.

He gives us some of his book recommendations to get 1% better and he shares the advice he would give a younger Ryan if he could go back to the future.

Now, I know Ryan because I had the pleasure to work with him and I quickly realized he had a knack for writing pillar content and understanding the relationship to demand generation strategy. He previously worked at PepsiCo, Teach For America, and the Deloitte Consulting Strategy Operations group. While in graduate school he conducted his thesis on venture studios and accelerating impact innovation at the intersection of business and government. He set up operations for two funds each raising $100M, produces a VC and CEO LiveStream Series called RBL1 Live and is Managing Director of Rebel One - a double bottom line investing fund and investor network accelerating rebels innovating for a better world.

We have a very real and candid conversation around his view of VC funding for both investors and founders of color, why he believes there’s a lack of diversity and low percentages of access to funding for POC founders, and how his VC funding online programs are helping change those numbers.

He gives us some of his book recommendations to get 1% better and he shares the advice he would give a younger Sergio Marrero if he could go back to the future.

Why Being Intentional Is Better than Being Brilliant: Insights Sangram Vagre ABM Category Creator, Chief Evangelist and Co-Founder of Terminus

In today’s episode, we have a very special guest Sangram Vagre, he’s the Chief Evangelist and Co-founder of ABM SaaS Leader Terminus, as well 2x author of the following books: ABM is B2B and Account-Based Marketing For Dummies.

He is also the host and founder of the top 50 business podcast - FlipMyFunnel and because Mr. BOOM has more energy than a pinned up hamster on a mini-treadmill, he JUST LAUNCHED a private b2b marketing and sales leader community.

The Peak Community, a private community for marketers and leaders, focuses on sharing a collective knowledge from the expertise of members with the intention to get 1% better.and host of FlipMyFunnel with 100K community members in marketing and sales,

We have a very real conversation around his journey from India where he obtained his B.S. in Computer Sciences at Nagpur University to obtain his Masters in Computer Science at The University of Alabama, and his career experience throughout his journey from becoming the Co-Founder, CMO and now Chief Evangelist of Terminus an ABM SaaS leader.

We discuss his point of view around AMB, alignment of marketing and sales, how to leverage your superpowers to make your career more enjoyable and productive.

He shares his belief in the power of letting go to watch you grow, not an easy thing for C-levels and A-Type personalities to do, but in his opinion essential for sustained career and personal growth.

We get over 10 quality gems of his insights ranging from what it took to build a category, SaaS platform organization to how to intentionally create successful multiple engagement-driven content programs such as his LinkedIn Live Series, The Peak Community, FlipMyFunnel Podcast and the power that frequency and consistency have to their success.

We chat about where he sees Marketing and Sales evolving in b2b SaaS and ABM’s role in this "happening now" evolution.

He gives us some valuable book recommendations and what he would tell a younger Sangram on a trip with Marty in his Back to The Future DeLorean.

<itunes:summary>In today’s episode, we have a very special guest KK Diaz, my brother from another mother. We share an interesting conversation around his origin story growing up in South Africa, his career journey with a major U.S. company in Sage, which catapulted him to explore entrepreneurship and opened the doors to his own digital transformation consultancy, all while owning a music record label for the underground South African artist scene.

He talks about building up his courage and purpose to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and the impact it had on his life and career. Now 5 authored books later and with a thriving consultancy, he gives us some of his book recommendations to get 1% better, insights on authoring books, and his process.

We go over three takeaways he's experienced during his journey, which he feels can be helpful to navigate our current business atmosphere:

1. Refection is key to find your true purpose-driven life
2. Courage is important, take your risks with conviction towards your purpose-driven life
3. Seek like-minded people to work together and go further instead of solo through your journey

We also take the fictional trip with Michael J. Fox and his Back to the Future DeLorean to see what he would say to a younger KK.

<itunes:summary>Data sharing during COVID-19 is a hot IT topic but more holistically it’s an essential topic covering the future of healthcare for a post-COVID 19 world.

This is part of a very insightful and interesting conversation with Sam Meyers, Administrative Resident at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

It was my pleasure and honor to have an insightful conversation with Sam Meyers covering his origin story, growing up in St. Lois, Ohio. His collegiate journey to obtain his triple sciences majors at Drake University, before doing 2 years of Medical School of Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University and presently pursuing his third-year fellowship to obtain his Masters in Healthcare Administration, from the prestigious GWU Milken Institute of Public Health.

We discuss what he’s seeing first hand as part of the front-line in healthcare during this global pandemic and data around Covid-19 and the challenges of sharing data within our current U.S. healthcare systems.

We get some of his insights and recommendations to new healthcare entrants in the frontline, nurses, med-techs and admins, and what he sees is happening for them as they enter into the system during C19.

We get some of his must-read medical journals and websites to get better information around C19 and our healthcare systems.

📈 current data resources for C19 John Hopkins and others
👨‍🏫 importance of mentors or career counselors/coaches
👩‍⚕️ tips and advice for new workforce entrants to healthcare services

Sam explains the complexity of sharing data across multiple health systems and how this deters a more collective and holistic approach to tackling C19 87-second video clip.

Damian Rivera CEO at ALPFA.org | Former Senior Director Accenture: Leveraging Your Origin Line to Advance in Your Career and Life.

In today’s episode we have a very special guest Damian Rivera he is the CEO of ALPFA ((Association of Latino Professionals For America) and former 20 plus year senior managing director at Accenture.

We have a very real conversation around the critical importance of your origin story, his childhood upbringing in NY to El Paso Texas, and then back to Spanish Harlem in the ’80s and how those experiences shaped and prepared him for his educational and career paths.

We chat about the important role of his parents’ attention to education and summer computer camps, which would come to impact his future choices for work and academics.

He gives us some valuable takeaways on how to focus on leadership and the power of using your voice at all times, even when you don’t think you're being heard.

He gives us some of his favorite diverse book recommendations to get 1% better, and some advice he would give to recent college graduates. Then we take a fictional trip with Michael J. Fox in his Back to the Future DeLorean to speak to a younger Damian Rivera.

There's a little bonus part to this episode, where we learn about Damian's Rutgers Football career and how his non-casa nova style landed him the girl of his dreams.

<itunes:summary>In today’s episode, we have a very special guest Natalie Born. We have an interesting conversation around her background growing up in Georgia, attending college both in Georgia and her abroad education for her MBA in India.

We explore her journey with some major companies, such as CareerBuilder, ADP, First Data, and hospitality giant IHG (IntercontinentalHotels Group).

We discuss her corporate innovation strategy expertise and insights, what she calls the "art of corporate innovation". She also generously gives us her book recommendations to get 1% better, advice to recent college graduates.

We take a short rear-view mirroring trip with Michael J. Fox “Marty” in his Back to the Future DeLorean, to see what Natalie would tell her younger self.

Below are Natalie's Point of Views and Strategic Corporate Innovation:

POV 1: The Art of Corporate Innovation
Attribute 1: Healthy Teams, Healthy Results: The Hard Truth: If you can't get along, you are not ready to grow. Growth only magnifies problems. You can’t ignore it or make it go away.

Attribute 2: Fund Only What Matters, but Fund it Well: The Hard Truth: It will take a lot longer than you want. Innovation is not a microwave, it's a crockpot.

Attribute 3: Strategy- Align or Fail: The Hard Truth: Your teams are not moving as one because they would rather play in their own sandbox. It's faster and easier and they don't experience any resistance.

Attribute 4: Ideas- Iterate or Die. There is no Perfect:

POV 2: Market disruption is no longer about individuals it is about teams:

POV 3: There are 3 core things that shift when an organization brings innovation to the forefront.
Define WHY before you define HOW

The Culture Shift:
- Market Shifts –
- Engagement Shifts

Michael Sabbag | HR & Organizational Leadership Expert | Author| Dad| Eagle Scout

We listen today to a former colleague and HR and Organizational Leadership expert, as he describes his career journey and seven factors that drive exceptional work performance. Our guest, Michael Sabbag, whose entire background has been focused on creating leadership to help us become performance all-stars at work and in life.

Not only has Michael had an incredible career in senior HR and Talent Management roles across leading companies within diverse industries, such as PWC, Comcast, Learn.com, Sixt an Uberesque German-based global company, and now currently with one of the largest public healthcare organizations BrowardHealth.org in Florida.

We have a very powerful conversation around what we can do to become a peak performer at work and in life.

Boyscouts Eagle creds

Growing up Michael was in the boy scouts and worked hard to earn his Eagle badge, one which only less than 2% of all Boy Scouts achieve. The work-ethic and sense of emphatic and positive leadership developed from his experience with the Boy Scouts at a very young age. He has carried those values with him through his career calling within talent management and organization leadership development.

“Soft skills or interpersonal skills are the hardest and most important for senior leadership to hone into" – Michael Sabbag

Leading with strategy, not tactics to achieve better outcomes

Michael describes the incorrect thought process of using the commonly used sandwich method of starting off with a positive statement, then the middle attention to the challenge and finishing it off with a positive affirmation, during our one-on-ones with your team or direct reports. This method is both outdated and ineffective according to him. He believes that there should a direct approach, using empathy, but squarely focusing on where the skill or achievement gaps are and then focusing on how to coach via positive reinforcements.

“Healthcare leaders in our system cannot start off with tactics, we must start with the Why, the strategy to get to our outcomes. At Broward Health our why is to have the best patient outcomes for them and also their families” – Michael Sabbag

What's the focus for remote workers in healthcare or in general?

Michael describes the critical importance of having clear expectations of goals and deliverables for remote workers. Also being more conscious and deliberate around communication and touching base more often with a remote workforce. At Broward Health their remote team is using Microsoft teams, but regardless of tech platform, err on the side of over-communication.

“Ping your folks on line and ask then how they are doing, tell them what you're doing and what they think, keep the same hallway conversations, but just do them via virutal platforms” – Michael Sabbag

Back to the Future with Michael Sabbag

“Don't sweat the small stuff, overempahasis the things that have long-term impact and under-emphasize the things that have short-term impact” – Michael Sabbag.

Book recommendations to help you get 1% better

1. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen R.

<itunes:summary>In this episode, we have a very special guest, Michael Sabbag. He is an expert in Organizational Development and Leadership and author on culture, performance, strategy, and coaching.

I had the pleasure of working with Michael at Learn.com, a SaaS leader in the HR ERP/TD software space, which was acquired by Taleo, and then Taleo was ultimately acquired by Oracle.

We have an interesting conversation around his background growing up and what THE Boy Scouts and working summers in construction with his father taught him early on about work ethic and leadership.

We unpack his book, "Developing Exemplary Performance One Person at a Time", which focuses on the 7 factors that drive exceptional work performance, based on his leadership and organizational development training research spanning decades of his real-life experiences across diverse industries and organizations.

We also discuss his point of view around diversity leadership and his current role within one of the largest public healthcare organizations in South Florida Broward Health during C19 and its impact on the healthcare workforce.
