Racism Can No Longer Be a Flavor of the Month: What a Mess in the US?

As a Black American, I get treated with Racism from Whites, Prejudice from the Black Community, because I don’t subscribe to the same political beliefs as I guess I am supposed to? Nonsense. The same rationale we as Blacks use to point the finger at Non-Blacks when they lump us into the same bucket and assume we have ill intent when we pass them on the street is the same rationale used to ostracize me because I think differently than the herd. Nevertheless, guess what? I am Black, yes and we come in a variety of emotional, political, spiritual, and societal shades of Black. I will not hurl an object through a store window in Switzerland but in no way does that discount the rage I feel over George Floyd, nor does it discount the racist encounters I have and will continue to experience the second I walk out the door living here in Europe. Wake up world. Racism is a heart issue. Don't believe me? Listen and learn.

<itunes:summary>This is one of those times that I didn't know that I was going to record until 3 minutes before. I get really raw about early childhood emotions regarding a lost friend and how that pushed me on the road to redemption. The essence of both Forgiveness and Thanksgiving is a sacrifice or a "giving" of something which always puts you in a position of vulnerability. We don't like being in that position but embracing the meaning of both can propel you into emotional freedom.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>It has been almost four years since I first met Esbjörn, my first Swedish friend or as I now call him, my Viking Brother. Fatherhood is always one of those topics we've talked about whether at a BBQ in Belgium or having a beer at an amusement park in Efteling, Netherlands. Some friends you can call on a whim on a Saturday morning and two hours later your families are on a 4hr hike in Luxembourg, he's that dude. This conversation is just like when we've always talked, transparent, random fun and some off-color comments to spice things up. Learning about Esbjörn's childhood and how he reflects on being raised traditionally Nordic while paving the way to a new way of viking fatherhood was definitely enlightening.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Having worked in a comedy club in my former life, I have a fondness for the craft and the artisans that skillfully deliver magic on stage while exposing themselves to both cheers and jeers. I'm excited to share this interview with Tom as we talk Fatherhood and the tall task in preparing rising adults for launch. Of course there's some comedy involved but also deep dives into our approaches as fathers and how being sons has impacted this journey. One of the key discussions is wanting our kids to learn tough lessons from people that love them versus learning them later in life from people that don't. Tom and I can usually be found in a cafe somewhere in Basel talking about the same kind of stuff you will hear in this podcast episode. Due to COVID19 we will share this chat in a digital cafe.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:title>Pandemic Fatherhood: How to Maximize this Gift from your Government</itunes:title>
      <itunes:author>Dorian Usherwood</itunes:author>
      <itunes:duration>00:16:05</itunes:duration>
<itunes:summary>In this episode I talk about adjusting to your spouse and kids invading your home office, theatre, restaurant and alone time. This pandemic is forcing families to spend more time together than they probably have in many many years. As a husband and father who loves pending time with his family, this is not a new concept. We live to do life together and getting this extra time is quite amazing. As wonderful as it is, I am used to everyone leaving at some point in the morning, leaving me alone to do my thing, whatever my thing happens to be during the day.

Now that I've added the full time roles of school teacher, administrator and activities coach to my repertoire life is a little different. For parents that are not used to or typically don't enjoy spending time with their kids and family, this is your time to reset. Your family is your number one priority, its not your position at work or the material things that currently surround you. Take this gift that the governments COVID19 response has given you and reset your family This is the time to eliminate bad habits and reconnect with the people that you've been placed on this earth to shepherd. Let your memories of this pandemic be game changing for you and your family. Don't waste this opportunity.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>During a recent visit to Den Hague I sat down and had a beer with a good friend of mine from Ireland, Gordon and talked about Fatherhood. In this episode we talked about how we parent, how we were parented and what our experience has been thus far. While our kids are at different phases of their development, its amazing how our views and past play into our approaches. Fatherhood is a rewarding and difficult journey and will undoubtedly be a part of our legacy in life. </itunes:summary>

It has been an experience that has stretched me and rewarded me on a daily basis.Making the tough decisions to create boundaries that may seem unpopular to those around you but in my opinion have paid and will pay dividends as my children's future continues to unfold. At this point I've had wins and losses and will explore this more in detail in future episodes. </itunes:summary>

Starting at a weight of 243 lbs and getting down to 185 lbs in just a year and a half taught me a lot about my body, food and the importance of paying attention to what you put in your body. I also learned that every body is different and requires a specific approach for you to experience longterm success. In this episode I provide an overview of my journey and the commitment required to make it a true lifestyle.</itunes:summary>

Following my 25+ years in marketing, I stepped away from the corporate world and accepted a role as a stay at home dad and Principal Consultant in my own firm. This has given me an opportunity to really reflect on my life, what’s important, what’s not and the kind of legacy I want to leave. Talking about the things that matter to me will be one of the ways that I can share lessons learned and hopefully help someone that either struggles in one of these areas or just has questions about things that you might be afraid to talk about.

Why these topics? Food because I'm an amateur chef thats passionate about all things food and consistently share what I'm cooking or eating on my Instagram itsmybrandlife. Faith is the backbone of who I am and an area I consistently try to integrate and understand the impact of in the world around me. Fitness has been a journey over the past four years, leaving America at 243 lbs and recently moving to Switzerland after a three year stint in Brussels where I dropped to 185 lbs. I embraced cycling, lifting and learned my body and how food impacts workouts and self image and also stress. Fatherhood is an area I get excited talking about because it encapsulates my biggest successes and failures to date. Lastly, I'm a gadget and gear hound. I buy the latest and greatest and constantly put it to the test, so can lend perspective to those that may not be savvy in this area.
