The Rangers, though, scored four in the ninth for a 9-6 win and a series split as the 10-game road trip continued. They have moved on to Seattle, where the Mariners are struggling again. Seattle, though, plays well at home and has had the advantage the past few seasons against the Rangers at T-Mobile Park.

The Texas Rangers came home from a 4-2 road trip Wednesday night, enjoyed an off day Thursday and are carrying momentum into their home opener Friday at Globe Life Field. The first road trip had a wide variety of highs but some lows. Even though it’s early in the season, perhaps some of what has happened through six games will play out over the course of 162. As always, the Rangers are rolling out some new food items at Globe Life Field. Also, the minor-league affiliates are getting busy.

The Texas Rangers had a very good weekend, erasing their Opening Day loss on March 26 to win back-to-back games March 28 and March 29 to win the season-opening series at Philadelphia. Pitching was the focus, as Jacob deGrom was scratched from his first start of 2026. Jacob Latz stepped in an tossed four scoreless innings as the Rangers took a 3-0 lead into the ninth. Robert Garcia and Chris Martin couldn’t close out the game, in part because of Jake Burger error, but the Rangers prevailed 5-4 in 10 innings. MacKenzie Gore made his Rangers debut in the finale and was terrific. He didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning and exited after allowing two runs. The Rangers’ star on offense was Andrew McCutchen, though Burger, Corey Seager and Brandon Nimmo all homered in the series.

The Texas Rangers opened the 2026 season Thursday at Philadelphia with a 5-3 loss. The offense had no answer for Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez, the 2025 National League Cy Young runner-up. He allowed only three hits and no walks while striking out 10 in six scoreless innings. Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed two home runs to account for all of the Phillies’ runs. The Rangers broke through in the ninth, with two of their three runs coming on a Jake Burger homer. Andrew McCutchen was in the Opening Day lineup, collecting a double. Three weeks ago, he was out of work, and that’s not lost on the veteran and former NL MVP.

Texas Rangers have set their Opening Day roster and are in Philadelphia the day before their March 26 season opener against the Phillies. The roster has some interesting names on it, including Andrew McCutchen, and he could help the offense overcome two straight seasons of underperformance. New manager Skip Schumaker feels good about the messaging to the hitters, and now they have to execute. If the Rangers hit, they have a chance to contend for the American League West title. If not, the pitching will have to replicate its terrific 2025 to give the Rangers a chance at the postseason.

The Texas Rangers left spring training in Arizona on Saturday and are back in town for two exhibitions Monday and Tuesday against Kansas City before heading to Philadelphia for Thursday’s season opener. The Rangers’ roster remains unsettled with four spots still to be decided, manager Skip Schumaker. The Rangers’ offense showed signs that it is on the right track after two straight down years. Pitching carried the team last season, and the rotation should again be a stretch the tries to reach the postseason for the first time since winning the World Series in 2023.

The Texas Rangers opening the regular season in less than a week and have only two more games in Arizona before spring training breaks. With their two exhibitions next week, the four starters said to be in competition for the fifth and final spot in the rotation are still waiting for the team’s decision. Jacob Latz and Kumar Rocker are thought to be the two front-runners, and they might be even after their last outings. Rocker was good, though with some flaws, and Latz wasn’t, though the Rangers liked some of what they saw. Also, the bench is still unsettled, but two spots look to have been sewn up.

Yes, it’s only spring training, but the Texas Rangers’ offense looks to be reverting to form. Two games over the weekend, Friday vs. Colorado and Saturday vs. San Diego, showed how complete the unit can be. The Rangers walked their way to a win over the Rockies, and a day later, the Rangers powered their way past the Padres with seven home runs. The Rangers hit four in a 13-run third inning, including a grand slam by Josh Smith. The team also made some news Sunday by naming Nathan Eovaldi as the Opening Day starter March 26 vs. Philadelphia.

Opening Day is drawing closer for the Texas Rangers, who continue to monitor several players for only a handful of roster spots. The addition of Andrew McCutchen threw a new wrinkle into the competition for the right-handed hitting extra outfielder. On the pitching side, Jacob Latz appears to have edged ahead of Kumar Rocker in the race to be the fifth starter. In the bullpen, Alexis Diaz’s struggles might have opened the door for veteran Josh Sborz and prospect Gavin Collyer. The Texas Rangers aren’t done with their roster construction. Early Thursday, word broke that they had reached a minor-league deal with Andrew McCutchen, the 2013 National League MVP and longtime Pirates fan favorite. The five-time All-Star must perform the rest of camp to earn a roster spot as a part-time outfielder and DH who would serve as the right-handed-hitting complement to Evan Carter and Joc Pederson. He also brings 17 seasons of experience to a team whose bench candidates lean young.

It was going to happen eventually — Jacob deGrom and Brandon Nimmo were going to play this spring for the Texas Rangers. The debuts arrived Wednesday against Team Brazil. The Rangers started deGrom on the mound after his All-Star season, and Nimmo was the leadoff man and right fielder behind his former Mets teammate. For deGrom, he allowed a solo home run and two other hits in two innings, striking out three, and Nimmo went 1 for 2 with a single and a walk. Both felt fine afterward and said they will be ready to go on Opening Day, March 26 against the Phillies.

The 2025 Texas Ragners had the best ERA in baseball, and the two leaders of the pitching staff are looking for a repeat in 2026. Jacob deGrom hasn’t gotten started yet this spring, though by design. He’s healthy and expects to pitch soon. Nathan Eovaldi pitched Monday, though in a simulated game rather than face the Guardians in the Cactus League game. The Texas Rangers kick off Cactus League play Friday after a week of pitchers and catchers workouts and plenty of activity for position players. Manager Skip Schumaker joins to talk about the state of the team heading into the first spring games, including a handful of young arms who have flashed and could be closer to the big leagues than expected as camp continues.

Schumaker also discussed adapting to new elements this spring, including how he plans to use the ABS system during games and how live batting practice has been a highlight of early workouts.

Off the field, the baseball world was rocked this week when MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark resigned amid union leadership turmoil and an ongoing investigation, leaving negotiations and the union’s future direction unclear.

The story that won’t go away was hopefully put to bed Monday morning when Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager met with the media and discussed his relationship with Marcus Semien after an offseason filled with innuendo. Seager didn’t dive into details, but he said that he and Semien had mutual respect for each other and were professionals on the field. Semien has been traded, and new manager Skip Schumaker hopes to create a new clubhouse culture. More competitors than complainers, more inflators than deflators. Brandon Nimmo figures to play a role in that, and on the field he figures to be the Rangers’ leadoff hitter.

Texas Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott will undergo elbow surgery after a UCL tear was diagnosed during spring training, and he is expected to miss most or possibly all of the 2026 season. President of baseball operations Chris Young confirmed the diagnosis and surgical plan, with the Rangers monitoring whether the procedure will be an internal brace repair or a full Tommy John reconstruction.

The Texas Rangers agreed to a one-year contract with left-hander Jordan Montgomery, reuniting with a key member of the team’s 2023 World Series championship rotation. Montgomery’s deal is reported at $1.25 million with performance bonuses, and he is expected to begin the season on the injured list as he continues rehabbing from hybrid UCL surgery.

Montgomery missed the entire 2025 season after the surgery, but when healthy he was a major contributor to the Rangers’ title run, posting a 2.79 ERA in 11 regular-season starts and winning two ALCS games.

The move adds veteran depth behind a rotation headlined by Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, MacKenzie Gore and Jack Leiter, with Montgomery projected to be ready around midseason as a second-half option.

The Texas Rangers enter Spring Training with most of the roster set, but one position remains unsettled. Second base.

After trading Gold Glove winner Marcus Semien to the Mets for Brandon Nimmo, the Rangers chose to look inward rather than outside the organization to fill the opening. Five players are in the mix for the lone position battle of camp, with Josh Smith viewed as the early favorite. But as a left-handed hitter, Smith could wind up in a platoon with Ezequiel Duran, Cody Freeman, Sam Haggerty, or Michael Helman.

The Texas Rangers continue shaping their roster with a mix of practical depth moves and high upside gambles. Today the team reunited with 2023 World Series reliever Josh Sborz on a minor league contract with a Spring Training invite, giving a former postseason standout a chance to prove he can regain the form that helped close games in their first championship run.

In addition, the Rangers finalized a one-year, $4 million deal with veteran reliever Jakob Junis, adding a reliable arm to the bullpen mix.

Sborz missed all of 2025 recovering from shoulder surgery, but his 2023 postseason performance — including recording the final out of the World Series — remains one of the most memorable moments in franchise history.

A quick look at the Texas Rangers roster shows very few true position battles heading into the season. Most everyday roles appear locked in after the team set a franchise record for fielding percentage last year.

The problem is that elite defense and one of the best ERAs in baseball were not enough to carry an offense that struggled badly at the plate. Outside of second base, where Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran, Cody Freeman, and Sam Haggerty could compete for playing time, most position players appear set.

With Spring Training just weeks away, the Texas Rangers have again addressed their bullpen by signing veteran right-hander Jakob Junis to a one-year deal after a strong relief season in Cleveland.
