Fit For A Comeback

Fit for a Comeback was created specifically to help individuals rebuild their strength, fitness, and confidence after life’s setbacks.

There are two sides to every comeback: the deeply personal journey of overcoming physical, mental, or emotional challenges—and the practical steps it takes to reclaim your health, whether after an injury, surgery, or major life shift.

Hosted by Nick Venuti, a former chef whose own journey took a dramatic turn after chronic back pain and a trimalleolar ankle fracture, this podcast is rooted in experience. Frustrated by the healthcare system’s “band-aid” solutions, Nick went back to college in his late 20s to study exercise physiology. Since then, he’s built a business that helps everyone from professional athletes to everyday people regain their strength, overcome setbacks, and reclaim their lives.

Each weekly episode combines real-life stories, expert interviews, and actionable advice to guide you through the process of starting over and rising stronger. Whether you’re recovering from injury, surgery, or simply life’s curveballs, you’ll find the tools and inspiration to take charge of your fitness transformation.

Becoming: The Close of Season 1 and the Start of Everything New

As I discuss closing out this season, I express gratitude to those who have been with me since the beginning. This episode is not just a recap; it's a candid conversation about the struggles and growth I've faced, shedding light on the obstacles that have shaped my current understanding of health, wellness, and personal growth. I delve into the emotional upheaval following the loss of my father, an event that redefined my perspective on life, relationships, and my purpose in this world. The journey of grief has made me acutely aware of what matters and has catalyzed a shift within myself and my approach to coaching.

Throughout Season One, we tackled various topics, from fitness and nutrition to mental resilience and emotional well-being. I shared insights drawn from my own experiences, recognizing that many in our community have battled similar thoughts and uncertainties. The podcast has served as a platform not just for sharing information but as a reflective space for me, inadvertently helping me in my own healing journey. I emphasized the importance of showing up, especially during tough times, as I've learned that true growth often arises from adversity.

In exploring the concepts of "rebuild," "restart," and "perform," I introduced my new coaching framework, intending to support individuals at different stages of their health journeys. "Rebuild" focuses on those recovering from injuries or surgeries, while "restart" targets individuals looking for a system to regain their fitness after being sidelined. Finally, "perform" is about optimizing one's health and performance for those ready to take their journey to the next level. I have a vision for next season that revolves around these paths, allowing listeners to identify where they fit in their health journeys.

As I prepare for an exciting next chapter—including a speaking engagement at the Sedona Yoga Festival—I recognize the importance of the work I’m doing and want to inspire others to embrace their own transformations. The culmination of this season has propelled me to become clearer on my brand’s mission and what I want to share moving forward. I urge my listeners to reflect on their journeys and the growth they can achieve through consistent action and resilience during hard times.

This episode serves not only as a conclusion of Season One but as a heartfelt invitation for you to join me in the next phase ahead. To everyone who's been a part of this journey, I challenge you to draw your own line in the sand and engage actively in your personal evolution. Together, we will continue to explore, grow, and tackle the challenges that life throws our way, one episode at a time. The next season promises to be filled with focused discussions on rebuilding, restarting, and performing, and I'm thrilled to embark on this new journey with you. Let’s get ready for what’s to come!

Stop Trying to Resurrect Your Old Self (ep.29)

In this episode of "Fit for a Comeback," I dive deep into something I've been wrestling with since my father passed away in September: the realization that the old version of me is gone, and trying to get it back was destroying my progress.

I share my raw journey through losing my dad, watching my business collapse, and catching myself trying to perform as someone I'm not anymore. If you've ever felt stuck trying to get "back" to who you were 10-15 years ago—before the injury, before the weight gain, before life happened—this one's for you. I'm breaking down why we can't resurrect a dead identity and what to do instead.

I walk you through the 3-question rebuild framework I used to draw a line in the sand: What do you value RIGHT NOW? What is your body actually capable of today? And who do you need to become to handle the life you want? This isn't about motivation—it's about building a new identity that fits who you are now, not who you were before.

<itunes:summary>Sleep isn’t just “rest.” It’s the single most overlooked driver of heart health, fat loss, muscle recovery, and long-term energy… and most people have no clue what’s actually happening when they close their eyes. In this episode, I break down why tracking your sleep in 2026 isn’t optional anymore, why women over 40 are at the highest risk when their sleep falls apart, and how your nightly routine impacts everything from inflammation to cravings to motivation.

I walk you through the science of light sleep, deep sleep, and REM, how each stage affects your heart, hormones, muscle repair, and mental clarity… and why your body acts like a 24-hour factory every night. You’ll learn why so many people wake up exhausted even after “8 hours,” why your heart never gets the break it needs, and why poor sleep silently spikes your risk for heart attack or stroke.</itunes:summary>

You’ll learn why protein is always the foundation, why breakfast dictates the entire day, how to use your Apple Health data to find your real calorie needs, and why most people unknowingly under-eat or misplace their energy.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Two weeks into the new year, most people are already slipping… not because they’re lazy, not because they “lost motivation,” but because they never understood momentum in the first place.

In this episode, I break down why the New Year, New Me mindset falls apart by mid-January, why motivation has never been the problem, and the real mechanism that determines whether you stay consistent or fall off again. This is one of the most important mindset episodes I’ve ever recorded, because it explains exactly why people spend years stuck in the start… stop… start… stop cycle.

I’ll walk you through the difference between emotional motivation vs behavioral momentum, how repetition rewires your self-trust, why quitting feels logical in the moment, and what actually changes when you build a predictable, repeatable system that your brain can rely on.

If you’ve been telling yourself “I’ll start Monday”… or if you’ve started this year already but you’re terrified of losing steam… this episode is going to hit home.</itunes:summary>

If you’ve been telling yourself “I’ll start Monday”… or if you’ve started this year already but you’re terrified of losing steam… this episode is going to hit home.</itunes:subtitle>

New Year, Same You...Why You’re Still Stuck (ep21)

It's easy to fall into the trap of chasing programs or quick fixes as the calendar resets. However, I emphasize that simply starting a new program will not lead to transformation if personal changes are not embraced. It's vital to reflect on who you want to become rather than just seeking a better version of who you've always been. January should not merely serve as a mental reset; rather, it should act as a powerful motivator for genuine growth. If we carry forward the same habits and mindset without making tangible changes, we'll find ourselves stuck in a cycle, expecting different results from old behaviors.

In this episode, I talk about what it really means to draw your line in the sand… and stop doing the same sh*t expecting different results. No bs.
How to Start Again… Even When You’re Not Ready (Ep19)

Life knocked me sideways these past couple months — losing my dad, trying to keep the business afloat, and honestly just trying to not lose my mind in the process. If you’ve ever felt stuck, burnt out, or like the version of you that used to “have it together” is long gone… I see you. I’ve been there. <itunes:summary>In this episode of "Fit for a Comeback," I share my personal journey of rebuilding health and mindset following the unexpected loss of my father. I discuss the emotional struggle of regaining momentum after a setback and emphasize that many face similar challenges in silence. By reflecting on my own drop in motivation and physical health, I illustrate the necessity of starting small—even when it feels uncomfortable or messy. I encourage listeners to identify manageable changes that can initiate their own comebacks, stressing that consistent habits and structured plans are essential for lasting transformation. Throughout the episode, I highlight the importance of community support and resilience, urging everyone to take that first step toward reclaiming their health, as every setback can ultimately be an opportunity for growth.</itunes:summary>

If you’re navigating change and feel like no one around you gets it....this episode is for you.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

• Why growth often feels isolating at first

• How to recognize when your environment no longer serves you

• What to do when loved ones become passive-aggressive about your progress

• Why people might downplay your wins...and how to respond

• How to redefine your circle and find people who actually support your comeback

• The difference between settling and evolving

• How to stop shrinking to make others comfortable

• Why investing in the right room can change everything

Memorable Quotes:

• [4:36] “You don’t need to dim your light just because it makes other people squint.”

The First Half of the Year Was Feedback... Now It’s Time to Take Control (Ep. 10)

If the first half of your year didn’t go as planned—this one’s for you.

In this episode of Fit for a Comeback, Nick Venuti reminds us that we’re not behind, broken, or starting from scratch. We’re starting from experience.
You Don’t Need a New Goal... You Need a Better System (Ep. 9)

In this episode of Fit for a Comeback, we’re flipping the script on how you think about progress. If you’ve ever felt discouraged chasing a goal like fat loss, pain relief, or a fitness milestone—only to fall off when life gets messy—this one’s for you.

Nick breaks down one of the biggest mindset traps that keeps people stuck: chasing outcomes without building the processes to support them. From New Year’s resolutions to comeback goals after surgery, injury, or burnout, it’s easy to aim high… but unless you’ve got daily habits that support your identity, your goals will collapse under pressure.

Using research-backed principles from behavior science and real-life coaching examples, Nick shows you how to shift from goal-chasing to system-building—so you can finally create sustainable results that last.

💡 What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

Why outcome-based goals (like “lose 20 pounds”) often backfire

The power of identity-based goals and how to build them

How small daily actions (like getting steps in or planning meals) lead to real transformation

What “neuroplasticity” and self-efficacy have to do with your comeback

Why focusing on protein, sleep, hydration, and strength training creates compounding results

The difference between falling back into habits that hurt you and building ones that serve you

Why you don’t need a life overhaul—just one process at a time

🔥 Memorable Quotes:

[0:50] “We’re chasing the outcome instead of building the systems required to get there.”

[2:27] “If you don’t do the reps, there’s no amount of hoping that’ll move the needle.”

[3:47] “We’re working so hard just to retire… but then we forget to actually live?”

[5:48] “You are not defined by the worst thing that’s ever happened to you.”

[7:53] “When you focus on the process, you rewire your brain through neuroplasticity.”

[8:36] “Dopamine comes from stacking small wins.
You’re Just Running on Empty (Ep. 8)

In this episode of "Fit for a Comeback," we delve deep into the complex feelings surrounding exhaustion and burnout. It’s essential to recognize that you're not lazy; you’re simply overwhelmed. Everyday life—from managing a business and caring for your family to striving for personal fitness—can leave you mentally and physically drained. We often fall into the trap of blaming ourselves for not being productive when, in reality, the constant juggling act of responsibilities can lead to severe emotional fatigue.

I discuss how many of us find ourselves prioritizing everyone else's needs over our own as we slip further down our own list of priorities. This episode highlights the significance of understanding our roles as managers and protectors, especially for those who often self-sacrifice to maintain the happiness of others.
The Truth About Injury Recovery – Why Rest Isn’t the Answer (Ep. 3)

Are you stuck in pain, relying on ice packs, painkillers, or endless doctor visits with no real progress? In this episode, Nick Venuti breaks down why simply resting isn't the solution—and how movement is the real key to recovery. From his own experience overcoming major injuries to the science behind prehab, rehab, and the MEAT method, Nick shares the best strategies for rebuilding strength and avoiding the biggest mistakes that keep people stuck in pain. If you're tired of masking the pain and ready to take control of your recovery, this episode is for you.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

Why "just rest" is outdated and ineffective advice for injury recovery

The role of movement in healing and why prehab is a game-changer

The three critical phases of recovery and how to progress safely

How to rebuild confidence and strength after an injury

The biggest mistakes people make when returning to training

Why the MEAT method (Movement, Exercise, Analgesics, Treatment) is superior to RICE therapy

Memorable Quotes:

[00:44] “Resting isn’t the solution, and neither is masking the pain. And the reason why I say this is because I know it firsthand. When I messed up my back in the kitchen, I did everything the quote-unquote experts told me to do, right? I'd go to the chiropractor, they would shoot me up, they would crack me, they would pop me, they would get me into the wobble chair. I'm doing all these crazy things. And then they would put me into the back room, and that's when I would get the little cocktail of the cortisone right into the trigger points, and none of it actually worked.”

[04:50] “Pain always comes back because you're not actually addressing the problem, you're masking the problem.”

[07:14] “We have data that shows that exercise instead of painkillers actually has shown to be a better outcome in recovery and masking said pain. And I remember the doctor telling me, ‘Nick, do you see the bed over here? Do you see this over here? Who do you think pays for this stuff?’ And then it really hit me.”

[16:30] “You don't have to stay stuck in pain.
