This one’s for the spiritual rebels and the cosmic dropouts who are tired of being told they have to remember who they were in Atlantis in order to evolve. The New Age industrial complex sings the same tone-deaf songs on repeat: “Remember who you are!” and “Remember where you came from!” and “Remember your soul’s purpose!”

Why are all these made-for-TikTok gurus so obsessed with “remembering” everything? And how many grudges do you think they carry if they’re always hyper-fixated on digging up the past? It’s exhausting to constantly “process” and “unpack" your life. You’re allowed to become something new without recovering every last version of who you’ve been. What if forgetting is how we survive the things that would otherwise shatter us?

This episode is about how freaking punk-rock it is to say, “Fuck my origin story!” (Not really, but kinda.) We’re not saying your past experiences are unimportant. And we’re not saying you need to forget everything you’ve been through. We’re not even saying that forgetting is easy to do. But sometimes… it is easy? Actually, many times… forgetfulness just… happens.

Forgetting is a function of your consciousness, not a flaw. It’s a psychic technology (and a healthy neurological process!) that helps you drop your outdated scripts, abandon your self-imposed limitations, and start fresh. You can’t live a full-ass life if you’re always trying to recover some perfect past version of yourself.

In an era where everyone’s clinging to their storyline, maybe the most sacred thing you can do is lose the plot on purpose. Maybe the goal isn’t to remember who you are, but to become who you weren’t.

If you’re white-knuckle-gripping anything that’s outgrown you, this episode is your permission slip to misremember it on purpose, or forget about it all together. And if you can’t remember what any of this means tomorrow — good.

November 2024 meets us as we’re knee deep in Scorpio season. Scorpio asks us to acknowledge what we’d often rather ignore — the shadows, the secrets, the truths hidden beneath layers of ego and comfort. This month is a crucible, where transformation isn’t a flash of sudden insight, but a process — one that requires us to sit, to unravel, to burn, and to refine before we emerge as a renewed version of ourselves. There’s a sense of “To Be Continued…” lingering in the air. We’re in the midst of a cliffhanger.

Scorpio, the sign of transformation and emotional depth, reminds us that “becoming” is not a destination but an ongoing state. It’s uncomfortable and confrontational. We’re not who we once were, and we’re not sure of who we’re changing into either.

Scorpio’s role in the zodiac is essential. It’s a sign that refuses to let us stay on the surface of Libra’s superficial harmony, and it also won’t allow us to catapult into Sagittarius’s carefree way of living either. On the heels of another dynamic eclipse season — marked by a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aries on September 17 and a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra on October 2 — we’re pausing to reflect on how these cosmic influences are showing up in both real-world events and our everyday lives.

This was the final eclipse season of the Aries/Libra cycle, which kicked off in July 2023 and will wind down by January 11, 2025. At that point, the North Node will transition from Aries to Pisces and the South Node will shift from Libra to Virgo. Once the new eclipse cycle begins, fate will take us in a different direction until July 2026. But that's a conversation for another day (and another episode). Along the way, we talk about the dangers of TikTok baby witches casting spells like it's a high school chemistry experiment, and we go off on white girls who jump into spirituality with no shame about colonizing closed spiritual practices from other cultures.

We discuss the philosophical Ship of Theseus (because, duh, you need to learn something esoteric in every episode). And we also explore the weird dynamics that arise when spiritual readers try to read for other spiritual readers (spoiler alert: it doesn't always go well).

Starseeds are a subculture within the new age spirituality community. They believe they are extraterrestrial souls incarnated on Earth to elevate humanity to a higher state of consciousness. They come from various galaxies and star systems far, far away. It sounds like science fiction. And actually... it kind of is. You'll see what we mean.

It's also fueled by more sobering ideologies like white supremacy, eugenics, and capitalism. Researching these darker parallels, it becomes clear that starseeds are (most likely) not from some distant galaxy. Instead, they're found at the intersection of cosmic elitism and earthly prejudices.

Despite our skepticism, we eventually stretch our understanding to consider the possibilities that starseed narratives offer. We reflect on why such beliefs resonate deeply with those who feel disenfranchised by the conventional world. We acknowledge the psychological comfort these narratives provide, and the sense of control and purpose they offer in our often chaotic human existence.

This is not a typical “spiritual” episode — but actually, it is!

Part of a healthy spiritual practice is paying attention to what’s happening in the world and allowing yourself to feel however you might feel about what you witness. If you’re not paying attention, you’re not participating in life. And if you’re not participating, you’re disassociating. And that just makes no sense, because you’re here for a reason. It’s not always easy, but your participation in this grand human experiment matters. We’re conscious beings on a giant rock flying 67,000 miles per hour through the vacuum of space. If you don’t participate and give that some meaning, then the “powers that be” will make it mean something for you… and you may not enjoy what “they” turn your human experience into.

ALSO! Someone decided to leave us an anonymous negative review and attempted to belittle Ryan (on Apple Podcasts). We rant about this for a bit, but it also sparked a conversation about the importance of learning how to have discourse with people who think differently than us. It’s a fact: not everyone will share your point of view. But how you interact with people from “the other side” reflects and defines your character, not theirs.

That said… we have 2 small favors:

Send a positive thought to the person who chose to leave us a crappy review. They woke up that day and decided it was a productive use of their time to harden someone else’s heart. We hope the universe shows them the compassion and open-mindedness they were unable to offer on their own.

Is Hesitation A Dork Impulse?

Hesitation is such a common yet fleeting feeling, often occurring mere moments before an ultimate decision. This instinctive pause is intertwined with moral choices, offering us a moment to confirm where we stand on the spectrum of good and bad, right and wrong. Hesitation can be the difference between cautious wisdom and paralyzing fear, as it taps into your primitive flight/fight/freeze response, often exacerbated by anxiety.

Søren Kierkegaard described anxiety as “the dizziness of freedom,” capturing how existential freedom and responsibility can lead to hesitation or paralysis in making significant life decisions. Meanwhile, Martin Heidegger’s notion of resoluteness — the act of being true to oneself by overcoming hesitation to act authentically — serves as an antidote to the paralysis hesitation can induce.

We chat about the perverse and persistent need to overreact and our over reliance on the internet and technology as a means to showcase our overreactions. Now that we’ve made that clear, let’s dig into this episode's theme.

In this week’s deep dive episode, we venture into the intricate web of emotions and perceptions tangled up with the ideas of acceptance and rejection. On the surface, acceptance seems like a warm embrace, while rejection can feel like a sharp sting. But as we dive deeper, we realize these two concepts are not only more delicate and intricate than they appear, but they’re also interconnected in complex ways.

These concepts are fundamental parts of our daily experiences and the choices we make. Sometimes they seem inconsequential, but other times they're like mighty sagas that dramatically alter our spirit. Acceptance and rejection can fully alter the way we view ourselves and each other. They can dictate our outlooks, shape our expectations, and transform the way we interact with the world.

Separately and together, these are experiences that forge tremendous amounts of resilience, strength and growth within us. Acceptance is not always a gentle sanctuary. Rejection is not always a merciless life sentence. They represent a specific kind of duality, but they're not always so black and white either. What might seem like two sides of the same coin could actually be more prismatic than you think.
