Are Scientists The Ones Breaking Down Trust In Science?

The Discovery Institute's Wesley Smith discusses his recent Epoch Times article that critiques actions by some scientists. Smith argues that data manipulation, failure to correct assumptions later shown to be wrong, and - in some cases - putting political and policy ideology above objective research are contributing to a declining trust in science, scientific research, and scientists as sources of information.

Why Do Gen Z and Millenial Workers Job Hop So Much?

Lebanon Valley College's Dr. Kimberlee Josephson discusses what research shows about younger workers (Millenials and Gen Z) and the fact they are less likely to stay at a job as long as other (older) workers stick around.

The reasons can include a tradional work schedule (as opposed to a flexible one), company culture, and even expectations set by their parents in childhood. This discussion looks at the "why" and also the lessons employers can learn from the research about retaining workers longer.

Is Your Child's Teacher Bringing The Union's Politics Into The Classroom?

National Right To Work Committee President Mark Mix takes issue with the National Education Association's recent convention in Illinois.

His take: the union focused too much on politics and leftist social and cultural activism, which they (and the other major teachers' union, the American Federation of Teachers) have been accused of bringing into classrooms across the country.

Accordint to Mix: "The Chicago conference is chock-full of woke agenda items called New Business Initiatives (NBI). They include progressive language involving issues that seem to have little to do with proper education."

What's The REAL Cost Of Inflation Right Now?

Just before the June CPI/inflation report was released, CNS opinion/commentary contributor Ken Davis was a guest and argues that the actual inflation rate in the US is far more than what is being claimed by government officials. The conversation follows publication of his recent article on the economy.

Davis discusses political motivations for minimizing the numbers being reported and says government typically uses sleight-of-hand accounting maneuvers to make the inflation report, as bad as it is, less shocking than he thinks it should show.

Plea Deals And Jury Trials: Has Justice Left Our System?

In a recent article, Reason magazine's Billy Binion argues that what's now a standard practice in criminal justice could be robbing Americans of a fair trial - even if they agree to the sentence.

Binion examines the common use of plea bargains to avoid trial and focuses on the "charge-stacking" approach many prosecutors take. When faced with a long sentence with a conviction or a short one with a plea deal, Binion argues that many defendents take the latter even if they are not guilty. In this segment, we discuss multiple aspects of the effect this has on the criminal justice system.

Author, activist, CEO Naomi Wolf's new book doesn't just challenge the narrative when it comes to COVID responses, vaccines, and mandates, it goes to war with it.

To describe her new book, "The Bodies of Others: The New Authoritarians, Covid-19 and the War Against the Human" has already added to the waves rocking the proverbial boat. Here's how the book is described: "In her most provocative book yet, Dr. Naomi Wolf shows how these forces -- from Big Tech and Big Pharma to the CCP and our oligarchical elites -- seized upon two years of COVID-19 panic in sinister new ways, to not only undermine our Republic but to fundamentally reorient human relations."

This segment is just part of the conversation due to time constraints. The entire discussion is posted separately.

In Defense Of Price Gouging?

When shortages of anything that's a necessity happens, prices often spike. Is that just a matter of supply and demand or is it price gouging?

In this conversation, Reason magazine's Christian Britschgi offers a perspective on price hikes that runs counter to what you normally hear from both conservatives and liberals: he says "price gouging" can actually help people by discouraging hoarding and by incentivizing suppliers to make more products available to consumers (which, in turn, lowers prices by balancing out the supply and demand equation).

FreedomWorks' Vice President John Tamny has a take on Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter that doesn't fit completely into either a liberal or a conservative mindset.

Is this likely to mean a big change to how our political and cultural conversations happen on social media? Yes.
Is this going to change the world in a massive, permanent way? Maybe not.

Tamny assesses what's happening and what the likely consequences - both intended and unintended - could be.

Could Kids Miss The Chance To Play Sports Because Grownups Won't Behave?

The recent new report out of Mississippi adds to the list of stories involving assaults on umpires (and referees) for youth sports games. A quick search on YouTube or Rumble will turn up video of officials being verbally and sometimes physically attacked over what happened in a KIDS game.

It's ridiculous and it's already having the expected affect: it's getting difficult to retain and recruit officials. If the trend continues, kids may not be able to learn the lessons offered by competitive sports.

In this American Viewpoints discussion, Barry Mano from the National Association of Sports Officials explains how bad the issue has gotten and why he thinks the grownups are out of control more often than we used to be.

Race To The Bottom - How Did Public Education Get So Bad And How Can We Fix It?

I don't think anyone can credibly argue that public education is adequately preparing America's young people with the skills they will need to succeed in higher education or life in general.

Before that can be fixed, the simple question that must be answered is "why?" and that's the focus of Luke Rosiak's new book, Race To The Bottom: Uncovering The Secret Forces Destroying America's Public Education. Luke explains what he means by that title/premise of the book and ways to correct course.

From the book description on Amazon:

"In Race to the Bottom, Luke Rosiak uncovers the shocking reason why American education is failing: Powerful special interest groups are using our kids as guinea pigs in vast ideological experiments. These groups’ initiatives aren’t focused on making children smarter—but on implementing a radical agenda, no matter the effect on academic standards."

Project 21, America's largest network of black conservatives, argues in a recent op-ed that President Biden's "'Historic' Supreme Court nomination [is] tainted by racial politics."

This morning, P21's Melanie Collette joined us to explain why they take issue with the nomination.

ZuckerBucks And Other Activist Dollars In Our Elections

Through his nonprofit, Mark Zuckerberg sent millions of dollars to election officials around the country. We're told the idea for that is to help finance the operations of the elections and to encourage participation in voting.

Sounds good, right? But is there more to it than that?

Lauren Bowman from the Public Interest Legal Foundation joined me on American Viewpoints to explain why they - and many others - are pushing for an end to private money being used to pay for elections.

PILF looked at the $6.5 million in funds given to election offices in South Carolina in the 2020 as an example. A statement from the Foundation says "These funds came with strings attached on how they could be spent to push unconventional voting practices."

Check out the interview to find out why PILF want to see all 50 states ban private funding of election operations.

Senator Bill Eigel (R) Discusses the Final Stretch of the MO Legislative Session

Senator Bill Eigel (R), discusses the Legislature's work on tax credits and what he feels should be done with them (or if they should exist at all). He also talks about the push for additional school choice in the state - a push that's been blocked by some of his Republican colleagues in the State Senate.

Eigel also talks about the response to the passage of Amendment 1 (aka "Clean Missouri") and why he supports Republican efforts to put parts of that back on the ballot in 2020.

AFP's Missouri State Director, Jeremy Cady, updates us on the work they are doing at the State Capitol.
