S3E5: Angels, Cannibals, Obedience | The Story of John Paton

In this episode of The Go and Send Podcast, Cody and Mike dig into the remarkable story of John Paton, a 19th century Scottish missionary who sailed to the New Hebrides Islands — a chain of South Pacific islands so dangerous that sailors refused to go near them. The inhabitants were hostile to outsiders, steeped in witchcraft and tribal warfare, and known cannibals. Two missionaries had already been killed and eaten there just a decade before. John Paton went anyway.

What followed was a life of staggering loss, constant danger, and undeniable divine protection — including a threat on his life and a supernatural deliverance. His faithfulness over decades helped transform an island nation that today is 91% Christian — more evangelical per capita than the United States.

Cody and Mike also wrestle with the hard question this story raises alongside S3E1: why did God protect John Paton and allow John Allen Chau to die? And what does John Paton's life say to a Western church that has largely made peace with comfort? If you want your view of God stretched and your priorities challenged, this episode will do both.

S3E4: From Selling Shampoo to Multiplying Churches | Michael Gutierrez

In this episode of The Go and Send Podcast, Cody and Mike sit down with Michael Gutierrez, VP of Finance at Multiplication Network. Michael's journey took him from a Catholic upbringing he walked away from, through a successful 16-year online business he built from scratch after 9/11, to a slow reconnection with Christ through his wife Jane — and eventually a call to leave it all behind for full-time ministry. It’s a remarkable story about surrender to God’s plans.

Michael shares how Multiplication Network is training national church planters across 70 countries — and why partnering with leaders already inside their cultures is one of the most effective and cost-efficient strategies in global missions today. He also shares the powerful story of woman whose miraculous healing, family rejection, and unwavering faith had a huge impact on her family. If you're asking the Lord what He wants from your career, your finances, or your future, Michael's story is a compelling reminder to hold your plans with an open hand.

S3E3: Getting God's Word to Those Who've Never Heard It | Naomi Frizzell

In this episode of The Go and Send Podcast, Cody and Mike sit down with Naomi Frizzell, President and CEO of Audio Scripture Ministries. Naomi's journey took her from dreaming of being a foreign correspondent for CBS News, to leading communications for the Lausanne Movement and Our Daily Bread Ministries, to now overseeing a global ministry that records and distributes God's Word in the heart languages of the least reached people on earth. Along the way, she lost her voice for six months following a ministry trip — and what God taught her in that silence became one of the most defining seasons of her life.

This conversation is full of remarkable stories that will challenge your faith and expand your vision for global missions. Naomi shares how Audio Scripture Ministries is reaching unreached people groups, nomadic communities, and prisoners across Africa and beyond — placing God's Word in the hands of people who have never heard the gospel in their own language. If you care about the Great Commission, Bible translation, heart language ministry, or simply want to hear how God moves in impossible places, this episode is for you.

S3E2: Creative Access: Using Your Skills to Go Where Others Can't | Michael Dubisz

In this episode of The Go and Send Podcast, Cody and Mike sit down with Michael Dubisz, an electrical engineer and recent addition to the SonSet Solutions team. Michael spent five years teaching high school math, physics, and programming at a Christian school in a restricted-access country in South Asia — using his skills as an educator to gain entry into a place where traditional missionaries simply cannot go. He shares what it's really like to live and serve in a closed country and the quiet fruit of God transforming the lives of those around him by his faithful witness.

This conversation digs into the concept of Creative Access Ministry — using professional skills like engineering, teaching, or business to open doors in unreached places — and honestly examines both its strengths and its challenges. If you've ever wondered whether your career could take you somewhere the gospel hasn't yet reached, Michael's story is a compelling answer.

S3E1: The Man Who Wouldn't Turn Back | The Story of John Allen Chau

In this episode of The Go and Send Podcast, Cody and Mike dive into the remarkable and controversial story of John Allen Chau — a young missionary who attempted to bring the gospel to the Sentinelese people, one of the world's last uncontacted tribes living on North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal. From his adventurous upbringing in the Pacific Northwest to nine years of intense, methodical preparation, John's story is one of radical obedience, deep faith, and unyielding courage in the face of real danger.

This conversation goes beyond the headlines to honestly wrestle with the hard questions John's story raises: Was it right to risk his life for the gospel? Does God's call override human law? How should Christians think about uncontacted peoples today? If you've ever wondered what it really means to take up your cross and follow Christ, this episode will challenge and convict you.

S2E7: The Space Engineer Called to Ministry | Eric Mock

Welcome to The Go and Send Podcast! In this episode, Eric Mock shares how God redirected his path from aerospace engineering and the space program to serving believers across the former Soviet Union with Slavic Gospel Association. Eric talks about the moment a colleague's question shattered his comfortable Christianity, the radical shift from managing aerospace programs to pastoring while overseeing ministries in 13 countries, and discovering that availability matters more than ability when God opens unexpected doors.

This conversation includes honest reflections on preaching in freezing Ukrainian churches under fire, supporting national missionaries as tent-makers, working to make churches self-sustaining, and learning that God often strips away our dreams to give us His purpose. Eric shares practical wisdom about discipleship-focused ministry, trusting God when life is hard, and taking that first step even when you don't feel ready. If you're wondering how your skills could serve in missions or struggling with God's call, Eric's testimony will challenge you to walk through whatever door opens next.

Contact us at goandsend@sonsetsolutions.org

Resources & Links:

Slavic Gospel Association: https://www.sga.org

Encountering Hope Podcast: https://www.sga.org/podcast/

The Cup and the Glory by Dr. Greg Harris

Trusting God When Life Hurts by Jerry Bridges

00:00 -- Introduction to Eric Mock and Slavic Gospel Association

01:16 -- SGA History: Founded in 1934 and Broadcasting the Bible

04:24 -- Training Students and Serving 6,000 Churches

07:20 -- Connection With HCJB and Voice of the Andes

09:26 -- The War in Ukraine and SGA's Response

13:00 -- Making Churches Centers of Hope: 2.2 Million Heard Gospel

18:30 -- They Don't Attend Church, They ARE the Church

21:03 -- Growing Up Wanting to Be an Astronaut

23:22 -- Working on Stealth Bomber, F-22, and Space Station

25:54 -- Colleague's Question That Changed Everything

27:48 -- Conversion: "I Want to Be More Like Jesus"

30:03 -- First Mission Trip: Wife Chooses Siberia Over Peru

33:00 -- Joining SGA and Taking a 65% Pay Cut

33:39 -- Planting a Church in Small Village 17 Years Ago

35:20 -- Traveling 1/3 of the Year to Serve Churches

36:25 -- Teaching Pastors and Visiting Front Lines

40:14 -- Preaching in 25-Degree Church With Tank Outside

42:36 -- Pastoring While Traveling: Learning From Overseas Churches

43:52 -- Discipleship Over Programs and Processes

46:29 -- Next Man Up Mentality From Ukrainian Believers

49:20 -- Never Imagined Going Into Ministry

51:35 -- First Time Preaching: 650 People With No Preparation

54:28 -- Seminary Students Missing the Point

54:55 -- It's Not Your Ability, It's Your Availability

56:24 -- Woman Asked: "Did God Bring You to Plant a Church?"

58:12 -- Goal: Work Ourselves Out of a Job

01:00:09 -- Supporting 394 National Missionaries as Tent-makers

01:04:17 -- Overcoming Fear and Trusting God's Grace

01:08:55 -- Encouragement to the Next Generation

01:10:26 -- Test the Waters and Find Your Giftedness

01:13:28 -- Preach Truth When Sky Is Blue, Not When It's Dark

01:14:43 -- Book Recommendations and SGA Resources

To learn more about SonSet Solutions, go to our website or follow us on social media @SonSetSolutions.

Website: https://www.sonsetsolutions.org

S2E4: From Park Ranger to Pioneer Missionary | Brad Shaw

Welcome to The Go and Send Podcast! In this episode, Brad Shaw shares how God redirected his path from studying biology and working as a park ranger in Alaska to becoming a pioneer missionary among the Quechua people in Peru's Cotahuasi Canyon. Brad walks through his college years wrestling with atheistic professors, a supernatural moment when Scripture suddenly made sense, and a weekend gospel trip to an Alaskan village that changed everything.

He talks about learning medical skills as a physician assistant, partnering with Quechua believers to reach isolated mountain communities, and watching God open doors for both FM and shortwave radio ministry that now reaches potentially millions across the Andes Mountains.

This conversation includes honest reflections on cross-cultural ministry challenges, the importance of theological clarity in syncretistic contexts, persevering through five-year waiting periods for licenses, and trusting God's sovereignty through technical breakdowns and rural isolation. This conversation is both deeply encouraging and practical for anyone exploring missions or simply trying to remain faithful in every season of life.

Contact us at goandsend@sonsetsolutions.org

Resources & Links:

Explore study: https://www.vianations.org/resources/explore-the-world-christian-lifestyle

Support raising bootcamp: https://www.vianations.org/generosity/trainings/via/bootcamp

The God Ask by Steve Shadrach

00:00 – Intro to Erica Simone and Ministry Service

01:00 – Recent Trip to Peru and Distributing Solar Radios

03:00 – Meeting the Quechua and Ministry Challenges in the Highlands

05:00 – The Shaw Family’s Ministry in Cotahuasi Canyon

07:00 – Growing Up Without Christ Until Age 11 and Coming to Faith

08:00 – A Vacation Bible School That Changed Everything

09:00 – Finding a Church Family and Early Discipleship

10:00 – Starting a Career in Banking Right After High School

12:00 – Wrestling With God’s Call and Leaving a Promising Career

14:00 – Attending Elohim Bible Institute With Family

15:00 – Meeting Paul and the Providential Timing of His Acceptance

18:00 – Courtship, Marriage, and God’s Guidance in Choosing a Spouse

21:00 – Early Pastoral Ministry and the Struggles That Followed

23:00 – Facing Discouragement and Learning Through Hardship

24:00 – Paul’s Electronics Studies and the Connection to HCJB

26:00 – Discovering “Techno-Missions” and a Short-Term Opportunity

29:00 – Joining HCJB and the Transition to Long-Term Mission Work

31:00 – The Long Journey of Raising Support and God’s Provision

33:00 – Ministry in Elkhart and Erica’s Growing Role in Communications

34:00 – First Trip to Africa: Setting Up Radio Stations in Ghana

36:00 – Lessons From Ghana: The Power of Heart Language Ministry

38:00 – Transitioning Roles as Paul Retired and Erica Went Full-Time

40:00 – How God Redeemed Pastoral Ministry for Future Service

42:00 – Becoming a Partnership Development Coach and Helping Others Raise Support

44:00 – Learning From Support Raising Boot Camp and The God Ask

46:00 – Overcoming Mental Battles in Support Raising

48:00 – Stories of God’s Surprising Provision Through Supporters

50:00 – The Vital Role of Storytelling in Missions

51:00 – Biblical Foundations for Sharing What God Is Doing

53:00 – Walking Through Grief: Paul’s Passing in 2023

54:00 – Wrestling With Whether to Continue in Ministry

56:00 – God’s Sustaining Grace and the Call to Keep Going

57:00 – Encouragement for Those Considering Missions: Take the Next Step

59:00 – We Are All Called: Living Out the Great Commission

To learn more about SonSet Solutions, go to our website or follow us on social media @SonSetSolutions.

Website: https://www.sonsetsolutions.org

S1E8: A Lifetime on Mission | Mark Blosser

In this remarkable episode, hosts Mike Tapia and Cody Hall talk with veteran missionary Mark Blosser, whose career spans decades and continents. From growing up as a missionary kid in rural India to broadcasting the gospel across Asia and Africa with Trans World Radio (TWR), Mark’s journey is filled with courage, creativity, and deep faith.

Mark shares stories of childhood without electricity, motorcycle adventures across continents, and a calling shaped by both passion and providence. His work took him to strategic locations like Guam, Sri Lanka, and Eswatini—places chosen not for comfort but for gospel reach. He opens up about leadership challenges, surviving burnout, and the cost of long obedience.

This conversation is a powerful reminder that God uses willing hearts over lifetimes—and that behind every broadcast signal or transmitter tower is a faithful servant pointing others to Christ.

Subscribe now to stay up to date on The Go and Send Podcast!

Contact us at goandsend@sonsetsolutions.org

Resources & Links:

Trans World Radio: https://www.twr.org

TWR’s India broadcasts: https://twr.in

LIFTED Film: https://twr.org/lifted

At the Foot of the Snows by David Watters

00:00 – Meet Mark Blosser: 40+ Years in Missions
01:00 – Growing Up in India Without Electricity
03:00 – Boarding School and a Missionary Kid’s Experience
06:00 – How Mark’s Parents Were Called Post-WWII
08:00 – Learning Bengali and Seeing Faith at Home
10:00 – Discovering the Power of Radio
12:00 – Dreaming of a Gospel Broadcast Ship
15:00 – Motorcycle Trips Across India and Africa
18:00 – Service in Bangladesh With MCC
21:00 – Introducing New Crops to Fight Hunger
23:00 – Realizing Spiritual Needs Are Greater
25:00 – A Chance Meeting With TWR’s Founder
27:00 – Joining TWR and Meeting His Wife Debbie
30:00 – First Assignment: Guam and Broadcasting to China
33:00 – Typhoons, Antennas, and Trusting God
36:00 – Strategic Broadcasting From Guam to Asia
38:00 – Station Leadership in Sri Lanka
41:00 – Civil Conflict and Spiritual Opportunity
44:00 – Building a New Station and Downsizing a Team
47:00 – Stories of Impact Through Radio
50:00 – Assignment to Swaziland (Eswatini)
52:00 – Broadcasting Across Africa
54:00 – Final Years of Leadership and Burnout
57:00 – Returning to the U.S. and Helping Coach Others
59:00 – Encouragement to Stay Faithful Over the Long Haul

To learn more about SonSet Solutions, go to our website or follow us on social media @SonSetSolutions.

Website: https://www.sonsetsolutions.org

In this episode of The Go and Send Podcast, hosts Mike Tapia and Cody Hall sit down with David Gaona, Assistant Executive Director at Lifeline Youth Ministries in Elkhart, Indiana. David shares how his life was transformed from a troubled youth searching for identity to a disciple-maker passionate about reaching the next generation.

David recounts his early exposure to church through a persistent neighbor, the profound impact of his mother’s faith, and his journey through rebellion, restoration, and eventual calling into ministry. Now a leader preparing to step into the Executive Director role at Lifeline, David brings a unique perspective on holistic youth ministry—offering after-school programs, trade skills, mentorship, and the gospel to kids across Elkhart.

From starting Bible studies in juvenile detention centers to hosting Christian hip-hop concerts that spark genuine change, this episode shows how God can use anyone, right where they are.
