Here is Thomas Sherrill’s recollection of how Appalachian State students celebrated in 2007 after upsetting Michigan, carrying the school’s goalpost around campus and eventually to then Chancellor Kenneth Peacock’s house. Students celebrating a college football win is part of what makes college football so great. Here is how Appalachian State alumni remember celebrating the biggest upset in college football history.

The way they would play against Ohio State… Notre Dame… Rose Bowl. That’s the way they’ll play the second half.” Despite starting the half down 11 and star running back Mike Hart getting banged up, Michigan was determined to not let a small school from the mountains of North Carolina embarrass them.

Chapter 8: We asked the game’s best kickers about their favorite game winning moments. From two Pro Bowl winning kicks 25 years apart, to playoff winners, and kicks that sent teams to the Super Bowl, hear about the moments that define a kicker’s career in their own words. One game winner featured Kansas City Chief Nick Lowery receiving a threat from Pittsburgh Steeler Jack Lambert while another is a little-known secret behind Morten Andersen’s game winning kick over the Minnesota Vikings in the 1998 NFC Championship game that sent the Atlanta Falcons to their first the Super Bowl.

Chapter 5: A field goal always starts with the long snapper. In fact, there is no field goal without the long snapper. So, we explore the long snapper position through Nate Boyer and Kendall Gammon. Boyer is a former Green Beret in the US Army who learned to long snap, from the ground up, as a 30-year-old in order to fulfill his dream of starting for the University of Texas Longhorns football team. Gammon played 218 straight games during his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs, and is one of the best long snappers in NFL history.

Chapter 6: Someone needs to catch those tight spirals. This is an inside look at the holder position through Bryan Barker who had a 16-year NFL career as a holder and punter for teams including the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Philadelphia Eagles. He held for both Nick Lowery (Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets), and Eddie Murray (Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles) who are not only featured in this series but who also required very different holding techniques from Barker. Since holders almost always play other positions, National Football League veteran John Carney (San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints) compares the difference between the punters and backup quarterbacks that held for him during his career. Louisville’s Art Carmody and Texas Tech’s Alex Trlica discuss having future NFL starting wide receivers Harry Douglas and Danny Amendola hold for them respectively, during their time as elite college kickers.

As University of Florida Gators kicking great Bobby Raymond put it, they learned to be competitors by playing everything rather than just kicking. Chapter 1: This is the story of how two different kickers used the same strategy to climb from rock bottom to become the best amateur kickers in the country. Lou Groza Award winners Alexis Serna (Oregon State Beavers) and Brad Craddock (University of Maryland Terrapins) came close to quitting for different reasons, but the way they overcame obstacles was the same. These two kickers explain the mindset of “kicking not to miss” and how it almost ruined their promising kicking careers.

Chapter 2: This chapter was inspired by a conversation with former Syracuse Orange kicker Cole Murphy in the summer of 2019. In that conversation, Murphy explained that he felt all the best kickers had a “beach bum” like quality to them. The concept became the starting point for this entire podcast series. Are all great kickers like “beach bums”? Had reporter Cole Weinstein uncovered the predictive personality trait that determined whether someone could make it big as an elite college or NFL kicker? We answer those questions with the help of NFL veterans Pro Bowler John Carney (San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Morten Andersen (New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons), whose careers each spanned over two decades in the NFL.

In a special edition of Locked On Presents, Locked On NHL local hosts Erica Lindsay Ayala (Locked On Kraken), Ann Kimmel (Locked On Predators), Jay Forster (Locked On Blue Jackets) and Rachel Donner (Locked On Flyers) come together for a round table discussion on the fallout from the Chicago Blackhawks' sexual assault cover up, the NHL's handling of the situation, hockey's toxic culture and lack of accountability within the inner ranks of the sport, and what can be done to address the fundamental flaws in the way the sport is governed from the grass roots level up to the NHL.

The conversation begins with a recounting of events detailed 107-page report from Jenner & Block on the sexual assault of the John Doe now known to be Kyle Beach by former Blackhawks video coach Brad Aldrich, and the assault Aldrich committed on a second John Doe after having left the Blackhawks organization. The panel dives into their reactions to the interviews held by TSN's Rick Westhead with both Beach and the mother of John Doe 2, and why the don't believe the hockey world would have responded in the same way without those courageous interviews.

From there, Erica, Ann, Jay and Rachel discuss the NHL's handling of the situation, avenues for change within the construct of the sport, and how the league's regular missteps on issues of sexual assault, racism, homophobia and other societal ills have affected their own fandom, as well as the role fans need to play in pressuring the league to change its ways.
