Prior to coming to Dillard, Dr. Guillory was chief of staff and senior vice president for the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), where she led the development of the institutional strategic plan and provided leadership for UDC’s K-12 partnership with the Anacostia Feeder Pattern.

She has also been among the executive leadership team at Jackson State University,  Xavier University of Louisiana, the Southern University System, and the University of the Virgin Islands.

Dr. Guillory is a former member of the substantive change committee for the Middle States Commission for Higher Education (MSCHE), an experienced Middle States evaluator for regional accreditation, and previously served as member-elect for the Middle States Regional Council for the College Board. 

She earned her Ph.D. in comparative literature and performance studies from New York University, where she was awarded the Arthur J. Schomburg Award for Excellence in the Humanities. She is the co-editor of “Soul: Black Power, Politics and Pleasure,” and is a former Mellon Fellow. Dr. Guillory is a fiercely proud New Orleanian who graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and Tulane University.

My professional path began as an elementary teacher with a passion for technology. Over time, I served as a Technology Integrator, Director of Innovation and Technology, and later as a consultant focused on instructional strategy and educator support. While my roles evolved, one thing remained constant: a commitment to understanding how systems affect the people inside them.

​After facing burnout myself at a time when there were no pathways for healing or even permission to talk about it, I shifted my focus toward mental health advocacy and policy change. For many years, I’ve worked at the intersection of instructional innovation and emotional well-being. Though I’m not a therapist or counselor, I’ve always been clear about my role: I am an advocate, strategist, and systems thinker, committed to improving the human experience of those working in schools and educational organizations.

​As a consultant, I provide strategic guidance and professional learning for both private sector organizations and educational institutions. My focus is on building emotionally sustainable systems that reduce burnout, restore engagement, and improve long-term performance across teams. I specialize in areas such as employee well-being, emotionally intelligent leadership, systems-level change, and culture transformation. I also support organizations in aligning their internal practices with people-first values, ensuring that policy, communication, and culture all contribute to a healthier and more effective workplace.

​In addition to consulting, I am a speaker, facilitator, and author whose work has centered on workplace mental health, employee engagement, and the conditions needed to support innovative thinking. I design and deliver high-impact learning experiences that are practical, reflective, and transformative whether for business leaders, education professionals, or hybrid teams. I believe that when organizations truly invest in their people, they don’t just improve retention and performance—they build cultures where people can grow and stay.

​At home, you’ll usually find me with my family, out with my horses, or having in-depth conversations with my dogs over coffee. I’ve devoted my life to creating spaces where people can reconnect to their sense of purpose. Dr. Kristilynn Turney has served in public education for 20 years in the Greater Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio areas. She began her career as an English, Theatre, and Public Speaking Teacher. She was also a School Improvement Consultant and Literacy Coach for Hamilton County Educational Service Center and then Assistant Principal at Winton Woods High School. In 2012, Dr. Turney became the first Black Principal at Fairfield Middle School, and in 2014, she became the first Black Principal and only the third female Principal at Colerain High School. She ended her career in public education as a district-level administrator where she was a curriculum director and human resources/diversity director. She maintains Ohio Education Licenses in-All Communications (7-12), Principal (5-12), and Superintendent ( P-12).

Dr. Kristilynn Turney has worked in diversity and leadership for many years.  In these capacities, Dr. Turney has served as a building principal to improve cultural competency among her staff, a professor of “Community of Learners,” a course designed to make students more culturally aware, as a district-level administrator in the areas of curriculum, diversity, and human resources as well as an independent consultant helping individuals and organizations evaluate diversity practices and develop their diversity plans and models. Throughout Dr. Turney’s work, she has successfully engaged 1000s of peopleands solicited help and guidance from many stakeholders of diverse backgrounds. While this has not been an easy task, especially when oftentimes she did not know the stakeholders prior to beginning the work, she made it seamless by building quick relationships through engaging activities, tasks, and social, and professional connections. 

In her “free time”, Dr. Turney enjoys spending time with her husband, Larry, and 4 kids-Kamille, Carson, Lailah, and Lennox. She spends many days and weekends chasing their many activities and sports. Kristilynn is also an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Quinn Chapel AME Church. She enjoys traveling, reading, exercising, spending time with extended family and friends, and online shopping.  She credits her success to her mother, Joan Burnett, who passed away in 2016. Her mother taught her grace, perseverance, strength, and to believe in God through all things! 

Currently, Dr. Turney works with public schools, charter schools, and organizations on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Practices and Professional Development, Educational and Organizational Leadership Coaching and Mentoring, and School Improvement. Her work sites have expanded the globe including Illinois, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and the Cayman Islands, just to name a few. She is trained in DEI by the University of South Florida. She is a consultant with the Ohio State Support Team, SST 11, in Continuous Improvement and Special Education. Dr. Kristilynn Turney is also the host of “Elevating with Equity,” an equity-centered education conference, and the author of “Inspiration and Reflections for the School Leader,” and “5 Months to School Improvement.”

Rachelle is an ISTE Certified Educator and a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert. Meet Ashley

Ashley Starwood, LCSW holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Aurora University and an undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University. She is a licensed therapist with a deep commitment to empowering clients to reach their full potential. Ashley specializes in trauma related to the BIPOC experiences and couples therapy, creating a safe and supportive space for healing and growth.

Beyond her clinical experience, Ashley has pursued additional training in areas like happiness coaching, hypnotherapy, crisis prevention, and is a certified yoga teacher. She is also a published author, leveraging her book "Writing with Love: A Guided Journal for Couples" and workbook "A Spark to a Flame" to further support relationship strengthening.

Ashley integrates mindfulness and a broad range of therapeutic approaches to tailor treatment plans for each client. She is a fully- trained EMDR therapist, trained in a powerful technique for addressing trauma. Dr. Toy L. Watts made history when she was named Superintendent of the Laurel School District in 2018. She is the first woman to serve as superintendent of education in the district’s 133 years of educating the children of Laurel. 

Since serving as the superintendent, the district has seen digital upgrades in all areas of operation, increased recruitment leading to the employment of high caliber applicants in the areas of teaching and administration, the district’s six schools saw gains on state test scores with one school achieving the district’s first A rating and maintaining that rating for five consecutive years, leading to being named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School. On the high school level, college scholarship offers doubled and the school achieved a 90 percent graduation rate, the highest since tracking began. Due to a renewed focus, the high school recently became a B-rated school. Additionally, the district underwent a complete restructuring, including moving campuses, creating grade-level schools and increasing early education opportunities. Calm under pressure, Dr. Watts has faced the challenges of an EF3 tornado, a global pandemic, and four devastating fires during her tenure. Watts has served as a keynote speaker on the state level, guest panelist on the national level, and is a contributing author. 

Dr. Watts received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Dillard University, a Master of Education in School Counseling, a Specialist in Education in Educational Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
