On this edition of "The Claw's Corner" Rich "The Claw" Cyr and Rob Bull interview award-winning writer Daniel de Visé to discuss his book "The Blues Brothers: An Epic Friendship, the Rise of Improv, and the Making of an American Film Classic" From https://danieldevise.com/ - Daniel de Visé is a writer and journalist. His books have been translated into Spanish, German, Dutch, and Estonian. A graduate of Wesleyan and Northwestern universities, he has worked at The Washington Post, USA Today, the Miami Herald and four other newspapers. He shared a 2001 team Pulitzer Prize and garnered more than two dozen other national and regional journalism awards. His investigative reporting twice led to the release of wrongly convicted men from life terms in prison. His first book, I Forgot To Remember (with Su Meck, Simon & Schuster, 2014), began as a front-page article de Visé wrote for the Washington Post in 2011. His second book, Andy & Don (Simon & Schuster, 2015), began as a journalistic exploration into the storied career of his late brother-in-law, Don Knotts. Andy & Don is now in its thirteenth paperback printing. His third book, The Comeback (Grove Atlantic, 2018), rekindled a childhood obsession with professional cycling and the sport's forgotten hero, Greg LeMond. The Comeback inspired Congress to award LeMond its highest civilian honor, the Congressional Gold Medal, in December 2020. His fourth book, King of the Blues, honors a lifelong passion for collecting, performing and writing about music. King of the Blues was longlisted for the 2022 PEN America award in biography. King of the Blues inspired his fifth book, The Blues Brothers, a jubilant return to his home town of Chicago. Daniel is married to Sophie Yarborough, an editor at The Washington Post. From https://fuzzonthelens.com/ - To put it simply, Michael Leavy was born a filmmaker. Ever since he learned what a movie was, he has dreamed of making them. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for that dream to become a reality. Michael started acting and directing at an early age, even teaching himself how to edit. From the early days of using a paper-towel roll to scroll credits, all the way through mastering Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, his passion has never left. Michael almost single-handedly ran his high school’s television studio; anchoring the show each morning and creating more skits and short films than anyone else in the studio’s history. Michael then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University and also took graduate courses at Kean University to further his knowledge. After school, Michael stepped directly into the global spotlight thanks to his role in orchestrating the viral sensation known as the “Staten Island Clown.” Beyond that, Michael has directed many short films, commercials and music videos leading up to his feature debut, “Abnormal Attraction”, the comedy/fantasy starring silver screen icons such as Malcolm McDowell, Gilbert Gottfried and Academy Award nominee Bruce Davison. Outside the entertainment world Mike enjoys adding to his collection of ‘Leprechauns’ and playing football with his childhood friends, all while rooting for his favorite team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also continues a family tradition along with his brother Jason of creating a huge Halloween display for their neighborhood, which was originally started by their mother and grandfather and has gotten national attention throughout the years. Rich "The Claw" Cyr welcomes musician Julia Poorman on this episode of The Claw's Corner! Singer/songwriter Julia Poorman released her newest single "Runaway Ship" to all major platforms. The lyrics and music were written by Julia Poorman with music and production by Danny Roselle. The single was produced, engineered and mixed by Danny Roselle at Rosedome Studios. It was mastered by Michael Fossenkemper. "Runaway Ship embodies both the excitement and unstoppable feeling of new romance while also acknowledging the beauty in a love that is chosen over and over again despite the hardships it may face," says Julia. Writing songs has always been second nature to Julia. As a young girl living in New York's Finger Lakes Region, her little poems could be found stuffed in her nightstand expectantly waiting for melodies to bring them to life. As soon as she'd pick up the paper, the music would come flowing out and a song would be born. Throughout her youth, music served as a reliable and cathartic outlet for Julia. To her, it's an entire dimension filled with comradery, boundless expression, and healing. As a young adult, Julia took a brief step back from her musical endeavors to help build a business and life with her fiance. Navigating the world as an entrepreneur brought many rewarding opportunities for growth and unforgettable experiences, but she was left feeling a void in her creative nature. In 2021, Julia unexpectedly lost her father. One of the last text messages he sent her was a photo of him listening to her original self-titled EP from 2012. She knew she needed to get back to her roots to begin to heal. Music became a necessary therapy again, and the melodies and lyrics just didn't stop. Julia now feels the importance of creating music that puts people in their own flow state, a vibrational catalyst for self-exploration and healing. Her passion reclaimed; she feels as though this is just the beginning. Julia released her single "Already Got It" in 2022. Byrne has compiled a long list of impressive film and television credits. Byrne stars alongside Dwayne Johnson to save the world from global catastrophe in the action film Rampage loosely based on the video game of the same name. He can also be seen in 15:17 Train to Paris which marks the second time Byrne has worked with Oscar Award winning director Clint Eastwood. Byrne's latest movie is Green Book for director and writer Peter Farrelly. Green Book tells the story of a working-class Italian-American bouncer who becomes the driver for an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South and stars Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. In 2014, Byrne starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street for director Martin Scorsese and proceed to team up again with the famed director in 2016 on Vinyl for HBO. He also can be seen on Big Little Lies with Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, another HBO production and on the Showtime series I'm Dying Up Here staring Melissa Leo. Oct 20, 2020 On this episode of “The Claw’s Corner” Rich Cyr interviews musician Ceschi. Ceschi Ramos is a rapper and singer from Connecticut who has been hopping genres and spilling guts for the better part of two decades. He has been seen outside venues at 3am in Germany playing an acoustic guitar and singing to people that didn’t want the show to end. He has written poems to fans from behind bars whilst locked up on bogus marijuana charges. He has suffered a spiral fracture of the humerus while arm wrestling a marine in Hawaii. He has recorded with and toured alongside some of independent rap music’s most influential figures, including Sage Francis, Busdriver and Astronautalis. He has been in bands described as hardcore, crunk rap, lo-fi synth pop, Latin progressive and psych-jazz-rap. He has crafted abstracted and personal narratives mining the depths of depression and heights of hope. He has slept on countless floors when hotels weren’t in the touring budget and lost girlfriends and jobs all for the love of creating and performing. Ceschi was born with four fingers on his right hand, which served as partial inspiration for the name of his DIY record label, Fake Four, Inc. Those who have worked with him describe Ceschi as one of the most artist-friendly labelheads out there, a rare breed who values art over profit almost to a fault. Since 2008, he has curated a roster of wildly original and critically praised talent and put out albums from the likes of Open Mike Eagle, Buck 65, Sister Crayon and Dark Time Sunshine in addition to his solo records The One Man Band Broke Up and Broken Bone Ballads. An engaging, theatrical live performer, Ceschi Ramos has treated entire venues like a stage, viewing the middle of the audience or an empty barstool as good a place as any to perform a soul-baring folk song or tongue-twisting rap track. Ceschi once described himself in song as “a martyr at most… a failure at least” and said that, “In the eyes of history I’ll be no more than a leaf on a tree.” He knows what it is to suffer for his art and is aware that music exploring the ugliness and sorrow of the human condition will always exist on the fringes of a game dominated by disposable escapism and expensive publicists. Yet he still pours everything he has into his craft, and on any given night you can find him tracking vocals at his cousin’s New Haven studio, warmly greeting fans and friends at a dive bar merch booth or rapping double-time in Japan or Europe for audiences that often don’t speak his language, but are able to see the giant heart at the core of it all. My dad had an office in the house, but then built one in the back yard so he could find some peace to write by getting away from my sister, me and our menagerie of dogs, cats and even two pet rats. Always preferring the East Coast, the change of seasons and the slower pace of small college towns, I remained in upstate New York to attend college. First Alfred University and then transferring to Elmira College where I earned a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English. Upon graduation I substitute taught, worked at a school for children with special needs, and then was a preschool teacher at Cornell University's Early Childhood Program & Cooperative Nursery School. I have always loved writing. If my dad liked my writing he said so. He is a graduate of Harborfields High School, class of 1974. A journalism graduate of George Washington University, Dawidziak has worked as a theater, film and television critic since 1979. He has been the television critic for The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio, since 1999. A member of the Television Critics Association’s board of directors for five years, he has won five Cleveland Press Club awards for entertainment writing, as well as a Society of Professional Journalists award for coverage of minority issues. In addition to Horton Foote’s The Shape of the River: The Lost Teleplay About Mark Twain, he assembled Mark Twain’s thoughts on writing and the writing process for Mark My Words: Mark Twain on Writing. He also teamed with noted Twain scholar R. Kent Rasmussen for the chapter Mark Twain on the Screen published in A Companion to Mark Twain. He has twice been the visiting Twain scholar giving the Trouble Begins at Eight lecture at Elmira College’s Center for Mark Twain Studies. Originally from Kansas City, Kansas, Dee Wallace has worked as an author, teacher, dancer and actress in film, television, and stage for over 40 years. Her career began in New York where she studied with famous acting legend Uta Hagen before moving to Los Angeles where she found her mentor, Charles Conrad. With over 200 credits to her name, Ms. Wallace is a true tour de force in the industry, working with countless producers and directors and some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Wes Craven, Joe Dante, Lewis Teague, Stephen King, Blake Edwards and Rob Zombie. Her many film credits include The Hills Have Eyes, The Howling, Cujo, Secret Admirer, The Frighteners, 10 and of course, her role as Mary in Steven Spielberg’s E.T., The Extraterrestrial. She has appeared in almost 200 films, 5 television series, and 400 commercials.Ms. Wallace has just completed three films for release in 2019: Every Other Holiday, Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, and Jingle Belle. Other recent credits include NCIS, Shooter, and Law and Order L.A. Ms. Wallace is also starring in Amazon’s series Just Add Magic. Dee began her channeled healing work over twenty years ago when she dropped to her knees after her husband’s sudden death and asked for a way we could “heal ourselves.” Seconds later she received her first message: use the light within you to heal yourself. She has passionately been teaching the art of self creation ever since. Dee is a strong advocate for accepting (at an early age) our own magnificence and power in a positive, loving way.
