He was right until he murdered Sarah Butler, who was not a prostitute but was a college student trying to launch a singing career and build a life for herself. Sarah's family brought this killer down using his own tool, a social media app called Tagged.

Karen unpacks a case that draws eerie similarity to the case of their book, CLICK, CLICK, CLICK. Set in a community within Henrico County, VA, this is a case of Mortal Frenemies. Dean Scott Phillips was described as a confident, thriving teenager on his way to chase his future at Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University (VA Tech). His friends say he was a fierce baseball and swimming competitor that strived to make others laugh and wanted to be friends with everyone. In July 1989, just after high school graduation, Scott Phillips worked at a roofing company for his summer job before leaving for his freshman year in college in August. Also working at that roofing company was his classmate, Matthew Miller. When Scott accepted an invitation from Matthew to join him for an afternoon of three-wheeling and target shooting in the swamps of the Chickahominy River, it was a fatal mistake. Only one of the boys exited the swamp alive that day.

In this episode, Anne bakes up a delicious Strawberry Swirl Pound Cake. The recipe calls for Almond Extract and Kill Vanilla. Anne deviates and uses yummy strawberry jam. Karen recounts a double murder in Bedford County, VA, which is near Lynchburg, VA. Then, Anne gives us the terrifying murders by the Dating Game Killer, Rodney Acala, whose victims are vast and there are still more out there unidentified. The case Karen covers in Virginia is the Haysom Murders where a rebellious University of Virgina freshman and her college boyfriend plot the demise of her parents simply because she is spoiled and wants her way. The sisters don't agree with the name given to the Dating Game Killer because he was only on one episode and even though he won, the woman who picked him had the sense to not actually go on a date with him. They do agree that boob biting is never acceptable in any scenario. They respectfully pay homage to Robin Samsoe, who was an unfortunate victim of Rodney Acala, but it was her murder that led to the solving of many others that actually got Rodney tried and convicted, even though there are many victims of his that are still unidentified. Investigators found over 900 pictures of his victims but cannot release them because of the violence depicted of his torturing them in the pictures.

OctoBoo series - Haunting in the Outer Banks

Karen and Anne welcome special guests, MaryP and Sarah, to the final installment of the OctoBoo series.

Both guests bring their A Games and break out chilling ghost stories from the Outer Banks of North Carolina, also known as the Nags Head area. First, Mary Patrick gives the creepy tale of how T.I. Daniels came to haunt the building where the restaurant the Black Pelican sits today. T.I. was notorious for giving his boss, James Hobbes a very hard time back in the 1800s. They were employed as Surf Men at one of the Life Saving Stations along the coastline. Poor investigator Clayton showed up to look into some shenanigans, but was pulled into a horrible scene of mayhem and murder and cover-up. An argument ensues and Hobbes eventually kills T.I. and the men bury him at sea and cover up the crime scene.

Next, Sarah tells us about Mr. Teach, who becomes the infamous pirate Black Beard. She weaves a story of his pirating and plundering throughout the waters off the Outer Banks, and she even gives us some noble facts about him. He was able to build quite a gang and a hearty ship, but, alas, his lack of honesty and antics of never-ending plundering get him captured by the Virginia Navy. When he is finally caught, the jig is up and his head comes off and that's how the haunting begins!
