Yo! S3E6 - Vijay Verma

Vijay Verma is a talented designer renowned for his intricate Figma art and his extensive portfolio of free digital resources. In this episode, we explore his humble beginnings as an electrician in India and his rise to become one of the most beloved designers in the Figma community. Additionally, we have a special case study where Vijay walks us through his character design process, complete with a bonus time-lapse recording he sent after the interview.

Please note that Vijay speaks quite fast, and this is a media-rich episode. Therefore, I highly recommend watching the interview on YouTube with subtitles on.

If you're tuning in elsewhere, simply head to https://yo.fm/vijay to fully experience the talent of Vijay Verma.

Watch the full interview on YouTube:

https://yo.fm/vijay

Sponsor:

A massive love-filled thanks to Webflow who encouraged me to go all-in on the video format.
#010 - Derek Sivers

Derek Sivers is an author, musician and entrepreneur famously known for founding CD Baby. What started as a hobby, turned intro an independant music juggernaut helping over 150,000 musicians sell $100m worth of music. However after selling CD Baby for a healthy sum back in 2008, Derek decided to not let money dictate his path and started a trust where 5% of the trusts value would be paid out to him annually, with the rest ultimately going to charity. He went on to write the hit book 'Anything You Want' in 2011, a personal favorite of mine that helped motivate me take the leap to work on my side projects full time. Derek and I have an absolutely blast reminiscing about our most memorable years in music also covering creativity, essentialism, Hendrix vs Bowie, his disregard for analytics, how to stand out online in 2020 and his secret to replying to 6000 emails in 10 days.

His first success was with Press75, a WordPress theme shop that infamously sold $75 themes raking in millions of dollars over several years. However money is no driver for Jason, who sold the business to pursue stimulating side-projects like Leeflets, Droplets, Cinematico, RIVYT and even joined the team over at Plasso for while. Luckily for us Jason isn’t afraid to go deep. We talk about the moment everything changed, finding the right co-founder and the struggle of competing with previous monetary success.

#000 - Introduction Yo!

Yo! Friends - This is a short tale on how the Yo! Podcast came about and what to expect from the upcoming show.

Since the break of Yo! S1 on YouTube I’ve been deeeep in research, trying to understand why people like Podcasts so much?

While some like a short burst of Inspiration others like hiking in the mountains and getting lost in slow, soothing 2hr conversion btw 60 years old scientists.

Fair enough but reflecting back to Yo! season 1… colorful, informative, punk rock and the odd goof. I created the show I’d want to see and I’m super proud of it.

The Yo! Podcast will be exactly how I’d want a show interviewing designers, developers and makers. I want intermissions, SFX, high fives….. even the odd true or false quiz to bring out the personality of the guests. Hell yeah!

As always please keep sending feedback. I know I get a bit excited when it comes to those music levels.

Hope you’ll join with me on this Yo! journey, thanks for listening.

Much love,
Rob
