Camden Brown has gone from undrafted rookie to one of the biggest surprises of the Dallas Cowboys preseason. Through his first two preseason games, Brown produced five catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns, averaging an incredible 27.8 yards per reception. His explosive plays against Seattle and Arizona have made him increasingly difficult to ignore.

Brown's case isn't simply about preseason hype. He's shown the ability to make contested catches, create explosive plays and give the Cowboys offense another vertical threat. On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down the under-the-radar players who could ultimately determine the Dallas Cowboys' ceiling in 2026.

It starts with Tyler Guyton.

Dak Prescott has CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. He has Jake Ferguson. He has explosive weapons capable of creating mismatches all over the field. But none of it matters if Dallas can't consistently protect its quarterback.

That's why Guyton's development at left tackle could become one of the biggest stories of the Cowboys season.

If Guyton takes another step, Dak gets more time in the pocket, Brian Schottenheimer can call deeper-developing concepts, Lamb and Pickens get more opportunities downfield, and Dallas doesn't have to build an offense around Prescott escaping pressure and playing superhero every Sunday.

Then there's the running game.

Javonte Williams doesn't necessarily need to become an NFL rushing champion. Dallas needs him—and the rest of the Cowboys backfield—to become dangerous enough that defenses have to respect the run.

If the Cowboys can run the football consistently, play-action becomes more dangerous, linebackers have to step forward, safeties have to respect the box and Dak Prescott gets the one-on-one opportunities with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens that could make this offense nearly impossible to defend.

The same argument applies defensively.

Quinnen Williams and Von Miller are proven veterans. The bigger question is what Dallas gets from Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence, Shavon Revel Jr., Jaishawn Barham and the rest of its young defensive core.

The Cowboys don't need those players to become stars three years from now. They need them contributing NOW.

If the young secondary develops, the pass rush gets even more dangerous. If the linebackers emerge, Christian Parker gets more flexibility. And if Dallas' young first-round talent lives up to expectations, this defense could have a dramatically higher ceiling.

That's why the Cowboys' 2026 season isn't only about their biggest names.

Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Quinnen Williams can be great—but a deep playoff run may ultimately depend on the players surrounding them.

On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan puts actual NUMBERS on his expectations for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys offense in 2026.

The prediction for Dak?

4,550 passing yards. 36 touchdowns. Nine interceptions. Around a 68% completion rate. And 11+ Cowboys wins.

Those numbers might sound aggressive, but look at what Dallas has surrounded him with.

CeeDee Lamb remains one of the NFL’s elite wide receivers. George Pickens gives the Cowboys another legitimate WR1-level weapon on the opposite side. Jake Ferguson provides Dak with a proven target underneath, and Dallas has additional speed and depth throughout the offense.

So how exactly are defenses supposed to play the Cowboys?

Double CeeDee and George Pickens gets opportunities in single coverage. Roll help toward Pickens and Lamb gets additional space to operate. Keep both safeties deep and Brian Schottenheimer gets an opportunity to run the football and attack underneath.

James makes another BOLD prediction: CeeDee Lamb AND George Pickens will each finish with at least 1,200 receiving yards.

But here's the key to making all of those passing numbers possible—the RUN GAME.

Brian Schottenheimer doesn't need Dallas to become an old-school, run-first offense. He needs defenses to respect the possibility of the run enough to create easier opportunities for Dak Prescott.

Run to earn the opportunity to pass.

Force linebackers toward the line of scrimmage. Create play-action opportunities. Slow down opposing pass rushers. Get safeties moving forward. Then let Dak attack with Lamb and Pickens downfield.

Running the football isn't about taking the ball OUT of Dak Prescott's hands. It's about making the defense easier for Dak to destroy when the football gets PUT BACK into his hands.

The final prediction? Dallas averages 27+ points per game and finishes among the NFL's top five scoring offenses.

Can Dak throw for 4,500+ yards and 35+ touchdowns? Can CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens BOTH eclipse 1,200 receiving yards? And can Brian Schottenheimer turn the Cowboys into the most dangerous offense in the NFC?

If Dak stays healthy and the offensive line holds up, how many defenses can consistently stop this group?

Then there’s the Dallas Cowboys defense.

Quinnen Williams gives Dallas a dominant presence on the defensive front, while Von Miller adds veteran experience to a group featuring exciting young talent. Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence, Shavon Revel Jr., Jaishawn Barham and other emerging Cowboys defenders give this unit significantly more upside entering the regular season.

The talent is there.

Now the expectations have to match it.

James explains why anything short of double-digit wins should be considered a disappointment for this Cowboys roster—and why an 11-6 or 12-5 finish could put Dallas directly into the NFC East race and position the Cowboys for a legitimate postseason run.

After working his way back from a groin injury, Barham made his presence felt with five tackles and a tackle for loss. Dallas is developing a clear philosophy: RUN to earn the opportunity to PASS.

That's where this offense could become dangerous.

If Dallas can consistently run the football, how does a defense handle Lamb and Pickens when Dak gets favorable one-on-one matchups? Add Jake Ferguson, KaVontae Turpin, Ryan Flournoy and emerging preseason playmakers like Camden Brown and Jonathan Mingo, and Schottenheimer could have multiple answers for whatever defenses throw at him.

The Cowboys don't need to choose between becoming a dominant running team or an explosive passing team. The goal is for one to CREATE the other.

Lamb remains one of the safest elite wide receivers in fantasy football, but Pickens is coming off a monster 2025 season with 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Lamb still topped 1,000 yards despite missing three games, and together the Cowboys' star receivers combined for 168 catches and more than 2,500 receiving yards.

So which Cowboys WR should you draft first?

CeeDee may provide the safer combination of targets and weekly consistency, while George Pickens possesses the explosive-play and touchdown upside that could turn him into a fantasy football league-winner at the right draft position.

But the best Cowboys fantasy VALUE might be somewhere else.

Dak Prescott could be an ideal quarterback target for fantasy managers who wait at the position. Camden Brown entered the preseason fighting simply to make the Dallas Cowboys’ 53-man roster. Now, Cowboys Nation might have to start asking whether Dallas can afford to leave him off it.
