I met Kimberly a little over 10 years ago when she walked in to take a yoga class and soon thereafter, became my student through my leadership teacher training. Her heart is for the next generation. She is committed and passionate in making a difference in the lives of kids and so it’s very fitting that today we talk about the seasons — the seasons of a school year and that another school year is wrapping up for her. We talk about how we each are the SOMEBODY a kid needs and in being that, we create a connection to home and a sense of security for a kid. 

She, along with other high school counselors, don’t always get the credit they deserve for pulling kids to the finish line through challenging seasons. On this One Creative Act’s first birthday episode, it’s very appropriate to spend this time with Kimberly; and we acknowledge her and all of our school counselors who have worked from dedication and love to support families and our children throughout the school year.

I met Kimberly a little over 10 years ago when she walked in to take a yoga class and soon thereafter, became my student through my leadership teacher training. Her heart is for the next generation. She is committed and passionate in making a difference in the lives of kids and so it’s very fitting that today we talk about the seasons — the seasons of a school year and that another school year is wrapping up for her. We talk about how we each are the SOMEBODY a kid needs and in being that, we create a connection to home and a sense of security for a kid.

Everywhere we’ve had the opportunity to build and create, we’ve shared a desire to put something back into that geographical area that looks like it’s always been there; and today we share it all.

TF studied Building Science at Auburn University and law at Cumberland School of Law. He combined his love for building, restoration and law and pursued historical preservation; later, with a cross-country move, TF transitioned into finance and wealth management while keeping his love for building things. TF always embraced creating home with me — with our first home in Washington, second in Colorado, and third in Florida. In seeing how structures were built throughout history when homes were designed because of where the sun set or how the wind blew, creating cool spaces when it gets hot so the house’s design has sustainability and longevity, and also thinking about the durability of materials that make for a newly designed home to look like it always belonged — these are the things TF and I have loved studying as we’ve built through the years. 

Today we talk about building together and the people who supported each construction project and how special it has been. From craftsmen, beloved architects who we worked with and adore, and community visionaries — check them all out in the show notes below. Cait pursued and has created an intentional, simple life in Puerto Rico and lives her choice in gratitude. She grew up surfing from age 8; and after her 21st birthday, she was drawn to the physical practice of yoga. With a little encouragement, Cait said yes to yoga teacher training in her hometown of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and experienced yoga and surfing as a powerful partnership for her life. 

Today, she shares how her choices have created her life of simplicity and health and how choosing simplicity can be just as much work to cultivate as a life of complexity.

She’s the first to say that human to human connection is the secret sauce to long standing relationships no matter where you live or what role you play. And through her 30-year, committed marriage to Joe, a Special Operator in the Air Force to multiple duty stations and mom to two sons, her commitment to healthy relationships comes first. Meghan currently lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee; and has lived all over the globe including Jacksonville, Florida, Hawaii, Virginia, New Mexico, Georgia, and Japan just to name a few. She continues to love a life of adventure and is passionate about helping others live their best and healthiest life. Lanier drastically shifted from normal function and growth into a space where Leslie knew something wasn’t right. After months of chasing doctors, experiencing severe emotions and breakdowns in Lanier, and finally getting the attention needed, Lanier was diagnosed with autism — a diagnosis at the time that didn’t have a lot of research or clarity behind it. So, Leslie became the woman who found it. She used her voice, her hands, her feet, her heart and her faith to be guided into something bigger. 

The HEAL Foundation was created as a result of Leslie knowing that all families of autism needed support. She knew she had received the Light; and she wanted to give it to others. In 1990, a travel agent in Barbados asked him to come shoot a surf contest which turned into a lifelong passion for travel, surfing and video. He was sent on trips throughout South and Central America — paid to surf and film in remote places. He went on to become the videographer of the US Surf Team and was able to continue traveling. I’m all these things and I’m still finding out who I am by doing creative things I’ve never tried before. This podcast is me trying something brand new. It’s me saying yes to one creative act.

I started this so you could see yourself as a creator, too, and someone designed to live fully and creatively. I started this so more people would feel motivated to begin, whatever that means to you. Beginnings are miracles, and when it’s a creative beginning, it’s equally a fun adventure.

This podcast will be a mix of solo episodes and conversations with purposeful dreamers and innovators who turned simple creative actions into their greatest adventures and biggest contributions to the world. You’ll hear how they made something from nothing by: 

  • Being themselves and listening to all of their senses to hear their calling.
  • Choosing to stay the course and celebrate their growth from their setbacks and struggles
  • Saying yes to one creative act time and time again

In the first season, we’re going to explore:

  • What it means to live a life in full spectrum — with all the emotions, all the valleys, all the peaks, all the colors
  • How creativity can spark a paradigm shift to cause a whole new life journey
  • How creativity is the ultimate restoration and wipes our spirit clean
  • And we’ll create a space where you can slow down and love listening simply to deepen your own vision for what’s possible in your life
