The judge presiding over the upcoming murder trial of Donna Adelson denied a request by her defense to prevent prosecutors from arguing that her attempted flight to Vietnam showed she had “consciousness of guilt” in the murder of Dan Markel. 

Adelson appeared in person Friday at the Leon County Courthouse for arguments before Circuit Judge Stephen Everett on a flurry of pre-trial motions from the defense and the state. Jury selection begins Sept. 16 in the trial, with testimony starting on or before Sept. 23.

Another Florida story eerily similar to Dan Markel and the Adelsons.

On the evening of Feb. 16, 2022, Jared Bridegan had just dropped off his 9-year-old twin son and daughter at his ex-wife's - Shanna Gardner’s -home in Jacksonville Beach and was headed back to St. Augustine where he lived.

With his 2-year-old daughter from a new wife in the car, he stopped because of a tire on the road near the exit.

In what police believe was a planned attack, he was shot multiple times as he apparently attempted to move the tire. His vehicle's hazard lights were still blinking with his daughter sitting in her car seat unharmed.

But many more families were inexorably damaged because of what transpired that fateful day.

It’s not unlike the Dan Markel murder who was murdered in a plot arranged by now convicted killer Charlie Adelson - Dan’s ex brother in law. Donna Adelson the family matriarch also sits in the same Tallahassee jail on the exact same charges

Charlie Adelson, the wealthy south Florida periodontist who managed to elude justice for 9+ years in the 2014 killing of Florida State law professor Dan Markel, was convicted last Monday on all counts in his murder.

Charlie’s sentencing is set for December 12th where he’s expected to be sent to state prison for the rest of his natural life.

Exactly one week after Charlie Adelsons conviction, mom Donna was arrested.

With mom Donna and son Charlie behind bars - and daughter Wendi possibly next - we speak to the Markels on this Thanksgiving eve.

Charlie Adelson, the wealthy south Florida periodontist who managed to elude justice for 9+ years in the 2014 killing of Florida State law professor Dan Markel, was convicted Monday on all counts in his murder.

Charlie’s sentencing is set for December 12th where he’s expected to be sent to state prison for the rest of his natural life.

Charlie Adelson is still on track to stand trial in October for the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel.

Adelson was in court this past Friday morning for a pre-trial hearing. He’s accused in a murder for hire plot that resulted in Markel being shot and killed as he pulled into the driveway of his Betton Hills home in July 2014.

Attorneys firmed up deadlines for Adelson’s upcoming trial which is scheduled to start with jury selection on Monday, October 23rd.
