On today’s episode of Locked On Texans, we break down Brown’s true value to the Texans offensive line. Brown has logged a ton of snaps at left guard and center, giving Houston flexibility in the trenches. In this episode of the Locked On Texans Prospect Series, we take a deep dive into Baylor tight end Michael Trigg, one of the most fascinating and polarizing prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Trigg measured in at 6'4, 240 pounds and shocked scouts at the NFL Combine by posting the largest wingspan ever recorded for a tight end. The physical traits? Elite. The athletic upside? Undeniable.

But there’s a catch.

Trigg isn’t the complete tight end prospect. His run blocking is a clear weakness, sometimes showing confusion on assignments and inconsistent effort in the trenches. If you're drafting Michael Trigg, it’s not for his blocking.

You’re drafting him for what he can do with the football in his hands.

And the numbers back that up:

4th among tight ends in deep receiving yards

GM Nick Caserio spent Friday reshaping the Texans’ financial future — turning roughly -$10M in cap space into more than $30M available heading into one of the most important offseasons of the National Football League calendar.

In 2025, only TWO teams had fewer yards after catch per reception than the Houston Texans. That’s a problem. If you can’t get the ball and turn upfield, your offense stalls — and that’s exactly what happened.

The run game? 20% of RB carries went for zero or negative yards in 2025. Only six teams were worse.

Christian Kirk didn’t bring the same presence as Stefon Diggs.

The backs weren’t Joe Mixon.

And the trust factor? That might’ve hurt CJ Stroud more than we’re talking about.

We revisit Stroud’s comments about having to “be Superman” — and why the lack of consistency around him may have forced that mindset. When Diggs was here, he was a stay-after-practice, get-it-right vet. That edge wasn’t the same last year.

The salary cap situation is about to open WIDE up. Houston has major opportunities to create cap relief through restructures — and thanks to Nick Caserio’s contract structure (six of seven major deals on 3-year terms), the Texans have real flexibility.

But here’s the truth: that money MUST be invested in the offense.

According to Over The Cap’s Offensive Spending vs. Output (2025), Houston had a low cap hit and a BAD offense, finishing with a -0.02 EPA per play. The only teams worse in that low-spend/low-output category? The Saints, Jets, Raiders, and Titans. That’s not company you want to keep.

This puts two things in perspective:
1️⃣ Just how dominant Houston’s defense really was in 2025
2️⃣ Why the Texans can’t operate like this anymore

Should Houston go all in? YES. The risk is NOT greater than the reward. This team is too close to getting over the hump to play conservative.

Schultz admitted he was already used to the offensive philosophy — while others weren’t. That detail opens the door to a bigger conversation:

Why did the Texans offense look disjointed and out of sync?

Why were young WRs struggling to get on the same page with CJ Stroud?

Why did Houston consistently lean on veterans like Dalton Schultz and Nico Collins?

And most importantly… is this on the quarterback or the play caller?

I’m saying it plainly: in 2026, CJ Stroud has to be more demanding. Franchise QBs set the standard. If Schultz and Nico had clarity, every skill player should have that same luxury. Miscommunication, timing issues, and a lack of cohesion defined stretches of the 2025 season — and that can’t happen again.

This isn’t a panic episode. And it’s definitely not a DeMeco Ryans hit piece.

DeMeco Ryans’ way can absolutely win Houston a championship. There’s no mystery there. Seattle’s defense isn’t doing anything Houston can’t do. The real difference is how the Seahawks built — and committed to — their offense.

Under Klint Kubiak, Seattle had a plan. They drafted for it. They staffed it. And they stuck to it.

That’s where the gap shows up.

John Schneider found five starting offensive linemen through the draft. Seattle took Charles Cross in the first round, Kenneth Walker in the second, and Abraham Lucas in the third — resulting in 313 rushing yards, four touchdowns, and just six combined pressures allowed by their tackles on the biggest stage.

Now compare that to Houston.

The Texans hit home runs with C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr., but the offensive line remains a revolving door. Juice Scruggs and Kenyon Green haven’t stabilized the unit. Tank Dell has played just 25 games in three seasons. The foundation up front simply hasn’t been cultivated.

That’s on Nick Caserio.

So the real questions are:

Has Caserio done enough to support DeMeco’s vision?

Have DeMeco Ryans and Nick Caserio truly been aligned this whole time?

And can they finally move forward in unison during this championship window?

The Texans are not out of it.
But Caserio has to be better — starting now.
