The Oriel

The Oriel podcast brings you the stories of the dynamic, inspired, thoughtful, sometimes difficult and challenging lives of the women artists of today, in their own voices, through conversation with host Andrea Bacigalupo. It is a platform for women artists of all ages and stages and it contributes to the historical record and archive of the lives of these artists.

As an artist herself, Andrea was inspired by something Judy Chicago said at Stanford University when speaking about her work and the utter lack of representation of women artists throughout art history. It is time to illuminate that blindspot with the actual voices of women artists. It is time to build an archive for current, future, and past artists. It is time to provide access and understanding to artists who are seeking that knowledge.

In architecture an oriel is a window that pushes out from a building and is supported underneath. This archive in the form of a podcast will lift up the stories and work of women artists in an attempt to close the gap a little more with each episode.

Trailer - The Oriel Podcast

The Oriel is a monthly series that brings to you the voices and stories of women artists. With each episode, we’re filling a void in history and we’re creating an archive.

This much needed chronicle is intended to enrich. These are the voices of women artists in their own words and on their own terms.

I was inspired by what Judy Chicago once said about the importance of the recorded experiences and stories of women artists. I hope The Oriel will carve a foothold in the future’s history of art and I’m excited to launch the first in this series as Women’s History Month, the month of March, comes to a close.

Please reach out to me at theorielpodcast@gmail.com if you would like to be interviewed. I would love to hear from you. Thank you!
