Penn State’s offense struggled early but took over on the ground as Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen both averaged nearly seven yards per carry. Drew Allar could not find his receivers but made plays with his legs to help the cause as the Nittany Lions had a comfortable lead at the half.

Nothing came easy for the Nittany Lions on the road against Minnesota but a series of gutsy coaching decisions on the final drive led Penn State to a 26-25 win. James Franklin and his staff had Penn State go for it on three different fourth downs on the final drive of the game including a fake punt that was the game changer for the fourth ranked team in the country. Despite defensive struggles early in the game and an offense that took time to get going, the Nittany Lions found a way to go 1-0.

Drew Allar and the offense got the team within in a score at the half led by Tyler Warren's career day and Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen both went over 100 yards in the victory.

Penn State slogs out a win against Rutgers, 27-6

Following another deflating loss to a top 5 opponent the question was whether or not James Franklin’s team would have a let down against Rutgers to close out the Beaver Stadium schedule, it was a win but hardly an impressive one as the Nittany Lions won 27-6. In their first game without Mike Yurcich, the Lions offense continued to struggle as they went into the half only up 10-6 and had to once again rely on the defense to carry the team.

Nicholas Singleton had a fumble that turned the game momentarily and kept Penn State from opening up a larger lead but Kaytron Allen would score two touchdowns and help seal the victory. James Franklin’s team improves to 7-1 and Manny Diaz defense gave up several long TD passes before clamping down at the end of the game. Indiana’s Brendan Sorsby found the openings in the secondary and missed assignments made the day longer than it should’ve been for Penn State.
