How To Keep A Balanced and Creative Life

This episode is my most stream-of-consciousness yet!

I've been juggling a lot of balls lately between my personal life, professional life, semi-professional creative life and creative lifestyle... It's a lot of hats and a lot of balls, and I've never been good at circus skills.

After talking with a bunch of creative people in my life, I realised it's a common theme - trying to manage all the elements of our lives that make us us.

With so many plates to spin, it's fair enough that we can smash a few or, at least, get a sore arm.

This episode is about all of that. I wanted to break down all the components of life but focused on what that means as an artist. It's an honest episode because it's something that I have struggled with at times, and these are the things I've learned and tested to try and make it... easier.

Some of it will be obvious, but we all take the obvious for granted sometimes, so consider it a reminder.

This episode is the biggest philosophy-vibed one yet. Much of it came from me figuring it out in my morning journal pages after sending myself mad with being overwhelmed and committing to too many things (typical).

Enjoy it, and consider it a big hug from me.

Happy 2024, kids!

Motivation is a powerful tool to get closer to your dreams -- next to fear and coffee... sometimes I mistake coffee for motivation ha!
But when life is throwing you lemons, you're tired and run down or you're just feeling yuck, when anyone says "you've just got to get motivated," it's annoying enough to make you want to throw a lemon at their kneecap.
It's hard to get motivated to do things you don't want to do, but sometimes it's hard to get motivated to do the things you DO want to do - why? And how to we get over it and get on with it?
Funny you ask, because the guest on todays episode has two books and one is named just that, Get Over it .
Today's guest is a motivational speaker who I met when volunteering with elephants in Thailand #cultured and she is an absolute legend. In this chat we cover change - internally and externally, motivation and what the resistance is to get over it and we talk about tools to see that resistance, throw a lemon at it and get on with the show.

She's an awesome chick and I highly recommend you go follow her on all the things (including listening to her podcast which I have a cheeky guest appearance on) - see below;

Instagram: Speaker Anne Bonney
Facebook: Speaker Anne Bonney
Website: https://ignitingyourcourage.com/
Podcast: Dancing in the Discomfort

As always, if you want to support this show and the efforts of your host, go follow all the related accounts, sign up for Patreon if you have ability to and keep the chat going!
Spotlight on Axel Duhart Vi - HipHop Artist

Axel is a really interesting and inventive music maker originally from Mexico and currently living in Berlin, Germany (when we recorded this interview). I met Axel at university in Melbourne, Australia and we haven't spoken properly in 10 years! Just supporting each other via socials from across the world.

This was such a fun and interesting interview as Axel is a challenge chaser, seeking out discomfort so he can grow, which influences his creativity and shows in his music style and his progression and discovery of himself as an artist.

He's been making music for most of his life and he has just released an album called "Still Unchained," a followup album to his last one "Unchained." I reference one of the songs in the interview called "The Hunger," which you will find in the album link below.

It was such a joy to connect with Axel I hope you enjoy the episode too!
All the connective details are below:

Axel LinkTree with all you need is here : https://linktr.ee/bigaxd

Hannah's LinkTree with all you need is here: https://linktr.ee/hannah_sainty

You're Weird Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/hannahsainty

Perfectionism with Alison Shamir

In this episode, I interview Imposter Syndrome Expert Alison Shamir about the shackles many of us feel known as Perfectionism.

Alison is an expert in this field, gaining a reputation as an international speaker, certified coach and media contributor, aiming to empower people to become their most confident selves. She is also a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, passionate about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and has had Leadership Leadership roles across the Technological and Media sectors. She combines both lived experience and professional expertise to help her clients make a transformative change. In this chat, we both talk about our personal experiences, how we have worked towards overcoming them, why it happens, and how it can be made worse due to external influences such as personal, professional or past traumatic experiences.

** Quick Edit: Alison refers to the brains bias towards negativity as being like 'Teflon.' This was an error and should be 'Velcro.' It doesn't change the sentiment within the episode, but if you're listening and think "isn't Teflon slippery?" that's just because we were so caught up in the chat the word was accidentally swapped out. The quote should be "“The mind is like Velcro for negative experiences, and Teflon for positive ones.” - psychologist Rick Hanson.
How great that when talking about Perfectionism, something wasn't perfect... maybe that means its extra imPerfect :)

Little trigger warning, we do talk about workplace bullying and the mental anguish it can cause, so please be aware, and if any of this stuff is happening to you, seek help and find a way out/to overcome the experience. I'm not a pro in that field, but there are ways that you can call out and remove yourself from those situations, it's just about talking to the right people. Reach out if you need help.

If you would like to work with Alison or know more about her or her work, please check her content below and follow her.

It was a pleasure to chat with Alison; I hope you enjoy it and it helps you overcome your Perfectionist brat!

Website - https://alisonshamir.com/
Her article on Perfectionism - https://alisonshamir.com/is-perfectionism-serving-or-sabotaging-you/
Instagram - @alisonshamir

Follow myself and this little project on the following links!
Hannah's Instagram: @hannah_sainty
You're Weird Instagram: @YoureWeird_Podcast

Support this project by signing up to the Patreon or just a one off donation below;
You're Weird Patreon: HannahSainty
Buy Me a Coffee: Hannah Sainty

Spotlight on Comedian Jarryd Goundrey

Jarryd Goundrey is one of Australias best rising comedians - I'm not just being bias, I am a tough critic. He's lead a crazy life with amazing stories which now act as a well of content for his comedy. In this discussion, we shine a spotlight on how creativity was able to prosper for him even when he was in the army - a place were creativity and imagination are stamped out of you in training, and WHY on Earth he would choose to become a fine dining chef and then comedian. He's a glutton for punshiment, but damn he does it well. Listen to this chat if you're wanting to feel a bit of pride in your quirk, a bit of inspiration when things feel desolate and bit of bravery when it all feels a bit too scary.
Spotlight on Actor/Director Emma Gough

Emma Gough is an actor, writer, phenomenal director and the founder and CEO of the Melbourne Actors Guild, an actors training and hub, located in, you guessed it, Melbourne. I interviewed her because she's an incredibly driven, motivated, experienced and inspirational person who has supported and guided myself and countless on their creative journey in performing and writing. She has a wealth of experience for someone her age and a lot of incredible advice wanting to become an actor, keep aiming to be an actor, or a director or a business owner! Her knowledge and expertise are vast and it's well worth your listen. As always, there's a homework task at the end of the episode to get you motivated and with these spotlight interviews there's the video element available! Jump on the Patreon for the full episode and onto the YouTube for the mini excerpts.

Follow Emma Gough on the following;
Her Instagram
Melbourne Actors Guild Instagram
Melbourne Actors Guild Website

Support this podcast by;
Following Hannah's Instagram
Following the You're Weird Instagram
Signing up on Patreon
Subscribing to the YouTube
