On this Episode we are joined by Dr. Andy Galpin. Dr. Galpin an author, a scientist, a teacher and a coach, who has a Phd in Human Bioenergetics and runs the Biochemistry and Molecular Exercise Physiology Lab at California State University. Beyond the huge depth of clinical research that Dr. Galpin is involved in, he's also worked with the likes of Mike Lee, Conor McGregor and Stefi Cohen. I asked Dr. Galpin to come on and discuss wearable fitness tech- it's a subject that has been greatly requested, and to my mind there's no better expert than Andy, having published his book 'Unplugged', alongside Brian McKenzie a few years back- by far one of my favourite reads on the matter. There's plenty here to think about- from HRV monitors, to heart rate training and sleep apps, and what we really set out to do was give you some pause for thought on how you can use these devices, without letting them use you. Enjoy!

Jacko is an Oxygen Advantage master breathwork coach, the juicy topic which was definitely the theme of our discussion. Jacko talks us through how discovering breathwork helped him come back from an injury which had seriously disrupted his quality of life, and which then lead him down the path of upgrading his fitness, using the power of the breath, and how he's now helping others to do the same.

We covered some serious ground, talking about the mechanics of breathing, common disfunction, and how you can make huge changes in your very next workout.

Dr Ed Caddye

Welcome back to The Bulldog Gear Podcast, on today’s show we are joined by Dr Ed Caddye. Dr Ed is an incredibly interesting individual who has studied conventional medicine, nutritional and environmental medicine, biochemistry and is currently training in psychiatry in the NHS. Dr Ed’s primary focus is in helping individuals to optimise and take a proactive approach to their health, versus the traditional ‘reactive’ approach of the medical system.

We REALLY got into the weeds on this one, discussing how we can manipulate movement based on our evolutionary make up to elicit different responses. What ‘training’ means to a lot of us, and how that can create limitations. And the adaptations we can make in the modern world, to create an environment that our body is better designed for.

As we say up front and several times throughout, none of this is designed to diagnose, treat or cure, but there’s certainly alot for you to take away and experiment with in the laboratory of your own life. Enjoy!

On this episode we are joined by hybrid athlete and mental health advocate Charles Mears. Charles has taken part in a number of incredible challenges and feats of endurance to raise money for mental health charities. His latest undertaking is burpeeing to the top of Ben Nevis.

What’s to follow is an open conversation between two men about our experiences with mental health issues, some of our learnings and beliefs and where and how we believe changes can be truly made, in order to reduce stigma and create an environment where men feel comfortable tackling these issues, or seeking help. As well as the barriers we’ve felt in the past, when the shoe is on the other foot and we’ve wanted to help the people close to us.

Episode 34 | Marcus Smith

On Episode 34 of The Bulldog Gear Podcast we are joined by the irrepressible Marcus Smith. Marcus is a gym owner, motivational speaker, and extreme athlete whose exploits include running 207km around a 400m track in 24 hours, a triple ascent of the Tour de Frances hardest climb, and completing the 250km race across the Sahara that is the Marathon des Sable.

As well as getting stuck into Marcus’s philosophies on training, coaching, and life, we touched on some pretty controversial topics, both arguing our corner on whether or not a coach’s own physique and body composition really matter, before diving into why most have struggle to have ‘good days’, the magic of a black notebook, and why it’s important to stop and stroke cats.

On Episode 33 of The Bulldog Gear podcast we are joined by the luminary Adam Sinicki, better known as ‘The Bioneer’. Adam is an extremely popular writer and YouTuber, known for his experimentation and deep dives into various styles and disciplines of fitness and other areas of physical culture.

Adam’s positive, non-controversial yet highly interesting content and ideas are an absolute breath of fresh air, in what’s quickly becoming a very polarised fitness landscape. This was a great, conversation, touching on everything from training to productivity to geek culture. So clearly, a fun one for me.

<itunes:subtitle>On Episode 19 of The Bulldog Gear podcast we are joined by Josh Senior.

Josh is an adaptive athlete who has represented GB as a climber, a crossfitter, speaker and just all round adventurous dude.

We had a great chat about all of the challenges that Josh has taken on since his injury, crossfit and the adaptive athlete, and AT definitely didn’t cry when Josh told his puppy story. There’s no video, so you can’t prove otherwise.

Enjoy.</itunes:subtitle>

On Episode 17 of The Bulldog Gear podcast we are joined by Catie and Hannah Munnings.
Catie is a professional rally driver, currently competing in the massively exciting Extreme E as well as a TV presenter, and Hannah is a yoga coach and nutritionist who is currently working on her first cookbook.

This is a conversation that’s definitely deserved of a part two, as I feel there’s so much more I’d love to go other with Catie and Hannah, but I think we had an incredibly insightful conversation around stress management, females in sport and eating and training around the menstrual cycle.

It was definitely a fascinating chat for me, and I hope you guys find it as engaging. Enjoy!

<itunes:summary>Welcome back team! This week on Episode 11 of The Bulldog Gear Podcast we are joined by Carl Paoli. Carl is an incredibly influential movement coach, one of the earliest advocates in developing gymnastics as a skill in CrossFit, and author of the New York Times best seller ‘Free+Style’.

This was a majorly thought provoking conversation for us, with Carl tapping into the sometimes nebulous relationship between movement, thought and emotion, while trying to draw some parallels. We sincerely hope this episode resonates with you, and that you go away with more than just a little bit to chew on. Enjoy!</itunes:summary>

James may be one of the fittest men on earth, but for us it was his philosophies for what he does when he’s not training that really gave us pause for thought. There is plenty for you, our audience, to get stuck into during this episode.
