84. Libby’s Journey to Baby No. 3

This week, Libby shares the story behind the happiest surprise — she’s pregnant with baby number three! But it wasn’t an easy journey. Over the past year and a half, she’s been through the highs and lows of trying to conceive, the endless ovulation strips, fertility apps, and emotional rollercoasters that come with it , and two miscarriages along the way. Since she is now pregnant & in a good place this, this episode is light yet heart felt.

Libby opens up about how social media posts hit differently during that time, what she learned after meeting with Wellesley Women’s Care, and how lab work revealing low AMH levels (aka very few eggs left) led her to prepare for IVF. Then, in an unexpected twist, she got pregnant naturally, right after a simple procedure to clear her tubes.

This is an honest, raw conversation about hope, loss, and what it means to keep believing when things don’t go according to plan.

Potty training has always been one of the most asked questions, so we are dedicating the beginning of this episode strictly to what we have done in the past, and what we will do with our 2.5 year olds! We then get into the topic of Delilah starting preschool in the fall, and how hard drop offs can be (Rocco crying his entire year...) and how we deal with that. Then we bring it back to the newborn stage, and Libby discusses how she did not find the transition to motherhood to come naturally.

In the past we've talked about love languages, but we just recently read the book "The 5 Love Languages of Children" by Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. Ross Campbell and we think it is a MUST read for parents. We learned all about what each love language means, how to figure out which one is your child’s specific language, and how us as parents can tweak our behaviors to connect with our kids on a deeper level to keep their love tanks full.

Who knew acts of service, quality time, physical touch, words of affirmation or gift giving could help us relate to and strengthen not only relationships with our partners, but our kids too!

Delilah and Rocco just turned one, so we're reflecting back on this past year by discussing our biggest challenges, what we've learned, our favorite stages, and our best advice for expecting first time moms. We talk about timing of milestones (or lack thereof LOL) and trending things we did and didn't do with our little ones, such as baby lead weaning. We also talk about our experiences on introducing siblings and our different views hospital visits. We give a gentle reminder that all babies are SO different! Do what works best for you and your baby, don't let what you see other babies, or what social media is telling you your baby should be doing, get to your head. You're doing amazing!

Liz gives us her overview of what pregnancy and life was like with her first, and the different dynamics between two siblings age differences. Laura tried for a few months with her first but had a huge surprise when she put it on pause for the holidays. Laura's second child was born (almost 2 years later) right when the pandemic hit - surviving covid babies was a different story. Then last but not least, Libby gets into her journey with the two boys, and opens up on the guilt that all moms feel - when you come home with the new baby and learning how to divide your attention amongst the baby and older sibling(s), and the struggles that come along.

With a husband on the road several months of the year, she opens up on the phases of their marriage, date nights, and how they make the best of their time together as a family of five. She never ceases to amaze us with her background and how she still makes time for herself which we all know how important it is for us moms.

We discuss everything from the struggles of social media comparison, to how we are as wives and household management, and everything in between.
