I’m an award-winning logo designer, seasoned freelancer, design educator, dad and owner of Barnard.co. I specialise in designing brand identities and logos with meaning.

I got my start in graphic design more than a decade ago, working in the publishing industry. I have designed creative content for some of the UK’s biggest titles, including The Daily Telegraph, Grazia, Men’s Health, Empire, Cosmopolitan, The Times and many more.

These days I run my freelance logo design business from the Gold Coast, Australia, after emigrating from London in 2021. I have a ridiculous variety of skills in design software, which I aim to pass on to the next generation of designers through my social platforms.

My work has been published in the Logo Lounge and I speak as an authority in the world of logo design at design conferences, on podcasts and for other design channels.

Brad Moore is a Nashville based music, entertainment, and commercial photographer/videographer with an amazingly strong photography background. Before launching his own career, Brad worked with some of the best in the business, learning the craft and business of photography.

Many people are familiar with Brad from his years at KelbyOne, as Scott Kelby's assistant. Assisting Scott Kelby was one of the best possible exposures to just about every facet of photography and videography.

Assisting Scott followed a couple of years assisting another world-renowned photographer, Joe McNally. While assisting Joe, Brad worked on shoots for National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, FedEx, Nikon, Golf Digest, and more.

Thanks to this rare education, Brad's skills are what you would expect coming from that kind of background - he can photograph just about anything.

Donald Page has been a sports and commercial photographer since 2005 and currently serves as the Team Photographer for the Tennessee Titans. Before moving to Nashville with his wife and two dogs, Donald was a freelance photographer serving a list of clients that included Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine, the US Navy, and Getty Images. Before working as a freelance photographer, Page worked on staff as the Team Photographer for the University of Tennessee Athletics Department from 2012-2018, where he served as the chief photographer for all of UT’s 15 varsity sports.

Scott Diussa is a graduate of the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies, at Daytona Beach College, in Florida. His photographic background started with weddings, portraits, and architectural photography but quickly evolved into teaching photography at the Disney Institute at Walt Disney World, in Orlando. From there he joined the Nikon family and is currently the manager of field operations for Nikon Professional Services. Scott’s personal favorite photographic genres today are concert, aviation, and travel. Before his career in photography, Scott was an audio engineer, which is a great benefit in the new world of DSLR video.

I had a chat with Dan about the past year, his career and keeping ahead of the game when it comes to keeping clients and enjoying a career in illustration.

Dan Mumford is a freelance illustrator working in central London, UK.

Over the past 10 years, Dan has worked within the pop culture and music scene creating everything from album covers, branding and screenprint's to new interpretations of classic film posters and albums. Clients include Disney, Hasbro, Apple, Adobe, Sony, Wizards of the Coast, Icon Motoports, CBS, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and many many bands and record labels from around the world.

Dan has had several gallery shows in America over the past few years and spoken at many festivals and events around the world, including Adobe Max, Offf Festival, Bump Festival, Various universities around the UK and more.

About Brian...
What was once a hobby and then a dream, became a reality in 2005 when I started my career as a professional photographer. I didn't know where it would take me, but I knew it would be the adventure of a lifetime. Photographing people and events has opened up my world beyond my wildest dreams. Making art from what I see has become a true calling, and one I strive to do better and better, shoot by shoot. Access is a privelege I take very seriously. Photographer Brian Friedman started out as a road manager for the legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes. But it was during Haynes’ 20-city tour, that Brian began photographing Roy and discovered his passion for image making that put him on a road to a new career. Since then, he has sharpened his skills and his eye to become recognized as a photographer of choice by noted entertainment personalities, corporate leaders, event planners and discerning individuals. His clients include iHeartRadio, Clearchannel Communications, NBC, CBS, 20th Century Fox, and comedians Brian Regan and Bill Burr, to name a few. Brian’s images have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, People, Playboy, The Economist, and Pollstar to name a few. In 2007-2008 Brian had the distinct honor of photographing Barack and Michelle Obama for the Obama for America campaign. Recently Brian was given a 5 page live concert photography spread in M Music & Musician’s magazine – a first for that publication. To all of these assignments, Brian brings the same level of imagination and creativity that has distinguished his vision and his work for more than a decade.

Mr Ant Pruitt, originally from South Carolina and now living in the Bay Area, Nth California, has worked hard and carved himself a career in tech and photography, finding himself working TWiT TV and their podcast. Ant has become a voice of authority on many subjects and brings a warmth and smile like no other. Ant Pruitt is a technology professional-turned photographer, videographer, and content creator. Born and raised in South Carolina, Ant was an enterprise IT professional for more than ten years in North Carolina where he spent most of his adult life. Ant eventually turned his creativity into a small business, providing writing, photography, video, and post-production services. He handled a range of assignments, including portraits, event photography, social media marketing, and interview videos. He also worked as a freelance writer for TechRepublic, covering consumer tech, enterprise IT, and tips for beginner content creators.

Ant first appeared as a guest on the TWiT network in 2017 to share tips on drone photography and video. After a cross-country move with his wife and two younger sons (the oldest son is in the Army), Ant is set to co-host some of TWiT's established podcasts, as well as develop new shows with a focus on digital photography and video.

My guest this week is a fellow designer and podcaster, Nick Longo. We first met at Adobe Max 2017 and I was a listener of his podcast, Deeply Graphic Design. Nick is a man who wears many hats and wears them well. Designer, brand specialist, instructor, mentor, podcaster and business owner. We talk about the balance of all those responsibilities and the thing about branding that makes us both fascinated with it. She is is an internationally respected artist, educator, and author specializing in creative digital photography and the impact of emerging technologies upon professional photographers, artists, and educators. We chatted about her new role at Adobe, life with Lightroom, photography, life in lockdown and embracing new software and technology. It was a pleasure to interview Katrin along with my guest cohost, Alan Hess.

Katrin Eismann is an internationally respected artist, educator, and author specializing in creative digital photography and the impact of emerging technologies upon professional photographers, artists, and educators. She received her BFA degree in Photographic Illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology and her MFA degree in Design at the School of Visual Arts. Katrin is the co-author of Photoshop Restoration & Retouching, Photoshop Masking & Compositing, The Creative Digital Darkroom, and Real World Digital Photography – all of which have been translated into numerous languages for worldwide distribution. In 2005, Katrin was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame and her images have been featured in numerous books, magazines, group and solo exhibitions. Katrin has presented on or taught digital imaging in six continents…and is working on getting to Antarctica! Currently, she is committed to innovating worldwide photographic education in her position as Product Manager of Engagement at Adobe Systems. Katrin enjoys the three f’s – food, photography and golf…not necessarily in that order and often simultaneously!

Lots was going on with Ian when we recorded episode 15…he’d just come back from having been flown out to Florida as special guest of KelbyOne to exhibit his images in the KelbyOne Gallery which aired live on the internet with him also being interviewed infront of a large audience.

Ian talks about this and how things didn’t pan out as he thought following all this publicity HOWEVER what he talks about shows that everything happens for a reason because A LOT has changed for Ian in the past year or but 100% for the better because now, and you’ll totally hear this in his voice, he’s way happier with what he’s doing especially after having had his work spotted, exhibited at an Art Gallery in London, sold some of fine art which is exactly what his work is.

Ian knows who he is and what makes him happy but it took time to get to this point.

Anyway take a listen and if you don’t yet know Ian I guarantee you’ll love him just as we all do when you hear what he has to say.

Ep.97 Watford FC 'Almost' Rebrand - The Full Story From The Designers

This week's episode is about the almost rebrand of Watford Football Club by St Albans based designer, Marcus Dilley, and Portland US based sports logo specialist, Brian Gundell. This summer, Talenthouse advertised a logo rebrand (paid) contest for designers to redesign the iconic Watford FC badge/crest that had been in place for 40 years. Watford are 'The Hornets' and in the past their badge has been depicted as such. In recent years, also affectionately know as 'The Graham Taylor Era' the Watford badge has depicted a Moose looking Hart. Was it time to change, go back to the hornets? That's what this contest was about and there were some great designs submitted. The 'finalist' was a joint effort by Marcus Dilley and Brian Gundell. We talk about their process and story to the point where they just lost out with 40% of the vote against 60% for the current badge. This is what happened...

About Steve Brazill

My name is Steve Brazill, also known as Razz on the air at KCAL FM and to friends. I am also a Southern California based Live Music Photographer, the former House Photographer for concerts at San Manuel Casino, and the host of the Behind the Shot Podcast. As a radio personality, emcee, and voice actor, I have been around the music and entertainment industry for many years. Combining my love of both music & photography, I capture those defining moments that happen during a live performance – on-stage or behind-the-scenes.

My images have been seen in newsprint; the Duesenberg USA Guitar catalog (Joe Walsh); in TV productions, such as MAVTV’s “Les Paul Kids Rock Free Concert Series” at the Fender Center; and recognized online in features such as in Mashable’s “16 Concert Photos That Will Bring Music To Your Ears”.

In 2014, I helped start the “On Stage” show for a local government TV channel, where I’m the host and interview people from the local music scene. That show was relaunched in 2017 as “In Studio“.

My podcast “Behind the Shot” launched in 2016 on the TWiP Network, and in 2018 I relaunched the show on my own. On each episode of Behind the Shot (behindtheshot.tv) I try to get inside the mind of a great photographer by taking a closer look at one of their shots.

I also do a presentation on Live Music Photography, having been a speaker at the PPC Expo (Professional Photographers of California), and various PPC affiliates throughout the state.

New Zealand born, Ross developed his passion for photography more than 20 years ago in New Zealand. He has since travelled thoughout the world expanding his photographic knowledge. He is a pioneer of 4K Photography and presented several workshops on the topic including an appearance at Photokina.

Ross' photojournalistic style, captures the emotion of the day whether it's at a Portrait or Commercial shoot. He has been shooting this reportage style for over ten years and this has earned him several national awards in the United Kingdom. He has lectured in Scotland, England, Wales, Germany (Photokina), and Morocco.

Ross shoots his work outside and in his stunning studio in Cresselly. Ross' location shoots are limited to the planet Earth.

He moved to Pembrokeshire in 1996 and lives with his wife, Rachel & their 3 children.

Originally planned for publication on 12 August, Richard 'Dickie' Pelham's A Life behind the Lens: Thirty Years of Award Winning Photography of Sports Most Iconic Moments was delayed by one week so as to enable the inclusion of images of England’s first-ever Cricket World Cup win in July.

The collection includes the very best work of Pelham, the multi award-winning chief sports photographer of The Sun for the past 30 years. He has covered six Olympic Games, seven World Cups, any number of Test matches and many championship boxing bouts, capturing the moments of triumph and despair, the great goals, the knockout punches, the key wickets and the gold-medal glory.

Over the past year or so Drones such as the Phantom and Mavik Pro by DJI have received their fare share of bad press due to some irresponsible behaviour by the minority; however their popularity has far from diminished and their use becoming more and more widespread…and not just in the creative field.

In this episode Glyn chats with “Ian in London” whom he’d originally became aware of through YouTube. A self confessed ‘hobbyist’ Ian has developed a fast growing YouTube Channel where he covers all aspects of Drone use ranging from tips and best practice for successful flights and capturing stunning video and still images, do’s and don’t’s, travelling with drones, qualifications and much more.

Jack served with the Royal Corps of Signals for the entire duration of the War and was captured and held as a POW for 4 years being made to carry out forced labour. Jack celebrated his 100th Birthday shortly before this recording, and his story is one not of blood and gore, of which he clearly experienced, but one of human kindness and compassion at times you never would have imagined. This is a story of making the very best of a bad situation and a story of risk versus reward. Known as "Die Hards" Jeff served in the famous Middlesex Regiment throughout the entire time of World War 2 and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery by none other than Field Marshall Sir Bernard Montgomery. For over 28 years Dave Cross has been helping photographers and creative professionals get the most out of their Adobe software. Since1987, Dave has taught Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to thousands of users around the world. He has a Bachelor of Education, is an Adobe Certified Instructor and is a Certified Technical Trainer. Dave has taught for Adobe, at Photoshop World, the Texas School of Photography, Adobe MAX, Imaging USA and at numerous corporate locations. Dave has written many articles and multiple books, co-hosted Photoshop User TV and has taught online courses for Kelby One, Creative Live and Photoshop Cafe. He offers online training at learningphotoshop.cc.

Dave has taught Photoshop in every state in the United States, throughout Canada and in Europe, consistently earning rave reviews. Dave is well-known for his engaging style, his humor and his ability to make complex topics easy to understand. In 2009 Dave was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame, and in 2016 and 2017 was named a MAX Master Instructor.

Recapturist is Bill Rose. Bill Rose documents the aesthetics of vintage American design.
The most visually pleasing parts of American design are fading away. The glorious neon signs that once lined our roadsides are nearly extinct. Mid-Century modern architecture is increasingly hard to find among non-residential structures. And products that used to come branded with machine-stamped chrome badges and hand-drawn typographical elements are now made overseas and marked with plastic decals.

This tragic state of affairs is widening the gap between the golden age of design and the present day. So Bill has spent the last decade-plus on a mission to capture the finest examples of what’s left. He travels the back roads of America looking for neon signs, junkyards, yard sales, antique stores, estate sales–anywhere evidence of these endangered designs can still be found.
The result is a graphic collection of design and typography from an era that predates the computers and specialized software used by modern-day designers. These images depict forms that were conceived, created, and produced manually on a drawing table using tools and techniques that are nearly obsolete today.
These designers were true craftsmen. Though combat disabled, and retired from military service, Pearsall has not let her disabilities hold her back. With her service animal, America’s VetDogs Charlie, by her side, she continues to work worldwide as an independent photographer, and is an author, educator, military consultant, BRAVO748 public speaker, founder of the Veterans Portrait Project and Nikon Ambassador. Her work has been exhibited at the Woodruff Arts Center and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and is presently exhibited at the Pentagon, the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery among other sites nationwide.
