Accountability and Authority: My Journey of Stepping Out of Comfort Zones and Finding Hope

What's going on? This is Olivia, co host of Hope Dot Dev, and today I'll be sharing three life lessons I've learned over the last couple of years with you all. And today we're going to be chatting about three things I've learned over the last three years that have helped me triple my income, scale our business, and grow my community. The first one I want to talk about, this was early on. We had just gone full time on the business, and Kade had this big audacious, God given mission.

00:00:29

And I was along for the ride, trying to keep up, trying to follow along, just as excited. And we decided in the middle of 2020, pandemic's full blown, everyone's hunkered down and staying home, that we had to get on the road and bring hope to the world. And we ended up traveling to 32 different states in 2020. We went to Nashville. We went to Wyoming, Washington, Minnesota, Colorado.

00:00:55

California. We went to Nevada, like so many. And we first started with folks, family and friends that were willing to open up their homes to us during the pandemic. And we went to them first and share what we were up to and tried to bring them hope and gratitude and in all of our interactions with both family and friends, but also anybody that we came along with, like Uber drivers or Starbucks baristas, just trying to bring them positivity and hope. And this whole time we had our sacred Hope board that if anybody has been following us, knows about, you've seen it in dozens of videos, hundreds of photos.

00:01:37

We traveled with it the whole entire time. And it's essentially a whiteboard about the size of a piece of paper, but it's like a lockbox, too, so we could keep little trinkets and papers and all sorts of stuff in there top secret. And we had I am Hope in big block letters written on that in expo marker. And the rest was just white space, but we'd fill it up with the names of people that brought us hope during our travels. So whether it was the Uber driver, he was actually our first signature, and just having a good conversation and telling him that we're getting on the road and kind of sharing just a snippet of the mission, he brought us hope because he was super positive and encouraging.

00:02:17

So we asked him to sign it, like I said, just random people, but also the family and friends that brought us hope along the way. And through that process, we've had hundreds of people sign the Hope board, sometimes multiple times, because family, we see them again, and they are still bringing us hope, but then also strangers that we've never seen again, we probably will never see them again, but they've signed the Hope board and we document it every single time. So not only do we take pictures along the way because it's expo marker, it's whiteboard markers, it literally wipes away so easily. So we document it as much as we can, but we'd also document after the end of a trip, all the signatures that we had collected and take pictures and videos, and we try and take pictures with the people that had signed it. But it was an incredible journey, and that taught me so much about stepping out of my comfort zone and stepping out of routine and creating new routines amidst new journeys.

00:03:11

So if anybody is just trying to figure out how to step into that next step that you can't even quite see, there's a lot more out there once you're willing to step out of that bubble or that comfort zone, and you'll be shocked what will happen after it. And if you stay until the end, I'll show you how to revolutionize your life with just a little bit of stepping out of your comfort zone, learning how to reprogram your mind, and finding accountability and authority through your posting. Okay, so the next lesson that I want to share with you guys I actually got from a book. It's one of my favorites. It's called what to say when you talk to yourself by Chad Helmsteader.

00:03:48

And it's NLP or neuro linguistic programming. Kate's taught me a lot about that as well. Another good book is Moonwalking with Einstein. But this book in particular, it's an old one. I think it was written in the he has a couple of other ones, but this one I read first.

00:04:03

And the main storyline is, your brain is just a computer, and whatever you program into it is what will come out of it. Just like a computer, if you program it to do something, it will spit it out because it's just a computer, there's no emotions, and it's logic based, so it will take the program and react. Right. So with that, your brain is the same way. So if you're trying to do something, all you have to do is tell your brain that that's what you're doing.

00:04:33

What I mean by that is if you are trying to instill confidence in yourself instead of putting in junk like, I'm a piece of garbage and I have zero confidence, you're going to say, I am so confident when I'm around people and I ooze confidence and I have so much enthusiasm when I'm around people. Whatever you want to say and your brain will go, okay, compute and take action. So it's really just about knowing what you want to program into your brain. And what I liked about this is how black and white it is. It wasn't, oh, create this new routine or do something, blah, blah, blah.

00:05:12

It's just understanding something super complex and taking it to the very root of it and understanding, okay, if I want positive things to come out of my mind, I need to input positive things. And if I want to learn something, I need to put that into my brain to then be able to execute on it. I highly recommend that book. It changed my life. I absolutely loved it, mailed it to my mom a couple of months ago and I hope it'll change your life too.

00:05:38

And if you want a longer list of books that Kate and I both recommend, you can go to synergycolab. Comresources and we'll have a whole list there for you as well, including this one. But you can go buy this one on Amazon. Just search what to Say When You Talk to Yourself by Chad Helmsteader the final story I wanted to share with you guys is around posting, but also with building accountability and authority. So how do those all connect?

00:06:02

I will be honest, when we first started all of this, I was not the person that wanted to be on camera by any stretch of the imagination. But with the help of our challenge and with Kate supporting me, I've really smashed a lot of barriers there for myself. One of my challenges was to go live 100 days in a row, and Kate will tell you some of those. I was probably crying 30 seconds before I went live because I was just so dreading it. All day, all day, all day, finally do it and I'm like, It was garbage.

00:06:32

Then I read that book. It was good. I'm trying to build my self confidence up, but actually doing the action every day was what really helped me program my brain more positively, because I was actually seeing myself grow. And with that, I was building up my confidence, but also my credibility and my authority. Because when I now can be on a podcast like this and say, I went live for 100 days, it can inspire other people that haven't gone live once.

00:07:03

But what I really learned with going live, along with building my credibility and authority with my community, was also finding my voice. And that's still a work in progress, that is still a journey. I think any entrepreneur or content creator will stay the same. Your life is always evolving, your experiences are always changing, and so your voice can change depending on the journey and the route you're taking. But I really started to identify more positively with the things I was actually sharing on my lives were things of value that could positively impact others.

00:07:37

And that was the biggest shift for me. It went from I think part of the reason I was so afraid to go live is because I didn't know what to say. And if you don't know what to say, you probably don't think you have anything of value to say. But once you start knowing, oh, today I'm going to share a tidbit on my favorite book and then talking about what's really exciting you about that book, you start feeling like you're actually giving quality content and you actually feel like you have something of value to share. And so hitting that, that turning point, I'll tell you, it wasn't day one, it wasn't day two.

00:08:10

It was probably more like day 98, but it finally clicks. And that was an incredible feeling. But I wouldn't have ever gotten there if I hadn't stayed consistent, hadn't had my accountability group helping me to do it through the tiers, no matter the time of hour, just getting it done. But then not just getting it done, actually making it good and making it better. So if that's something that you're struggling with specifically, I can't encourage it more to just start.

00:08:36

Just do it. Do it now. Go live right now. Share about a cool podcast you just listen to, but also just stay consistent with it. And it doesn't have to be going live.

00:08:45

It can be anything. But knowing that whatever you're doing consistently, it's bringing value to even if it's just yourself. But if it's bringing value to others, that is reason enough to keep going. Well, thanks for listening, everybody. I hope this gave you some value today.

00:08:59

And if you want to learn more about what we're up to, or you're interested in the accountability program where you just want to connect with us and join our discord, go over to Hope Dev and everything will be the or that you need to connect with us and connect with our community. That's www dot HOPE.dev

00:09:19

HOPE.dev. What's that spell? HOPE.dev.

Discover how changing your habits can help you take on new challenges and achieve success!

You will learn how to make positive changes to your habits in order to take on new challenges and reach success in content creation and entrepreneurship.

Visit https://www.HOPE.dev to get a FREE AirTag!

Chapter Summaries:
[00:00:00]
This episode is for anyone that's looking to make a change in their life. Some of this is going to be edited up, by the way. Go check it out on HOPE.dev. Type that in on your favorite streaming platform.
[00:00:43]
Liv came up with the idea for her accountability program with KAID and Andrew. The idea was to pick a series of habits and do them for 100 days straight. If someone lost and didn't complete the 100 days, their 500 got dispersed equally between the remaining finishers.
[00:03:31]
A new challenge challenges people to change areas of their lives that they weren't happy with. Within those seven maxims, you then select that daily habit that you're going to complete over the next 100 days. Winning is just a compilation of all these easy things that you just do.
[00:08:28]
The Challenge 2019 is a 100-day challenge to transform your life in 100 days. What motivates you to focus on the specific values or principles that you chose in the beginning? How has that evolved over time?
[00:12:40]
KAID on finding your seven habits but it's even more specific than that. Like, I have X revenue goal by end of Q one. Okay, now work backwards. I need to generate $4,166 to make XYZ happen. So it's just way more targeted now and way more strategic.
[00:13:27]
Olivia: What are the techniques used in your program and HOPE.dev and what we're doing with the I Am Hope challenge. To be a visionary, to execute on the idea of tripling your income in a certain amount of time, there are three steps. Documenting is key, and that's really the whole challenge.
[00:20:07]
The accountability part, I think, is crucial. You have to make some sort of investment in this to make it worth it. Livy is prime example of documenting it, putting it on social and putting it in the Discord community. Livy is going to be a voice here at HOPE. staple in the community.
[00:22:20]
Our friend Deirdre finished her book in our challenge. I'm on my 11th challenge, and since we've started this, I've tripled my income. What's the difference in people's lives from participating in it?
[00:25:45]
How do you measure impact through the program and what you're doing with completion rate? Everyone's proof source is essentially documenting and then we have a platform where they're putting those proof sources. Can you share any challenges or obstacles in building a program?
[00:29:58]
The seven maxims can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. Health can also mean whatever it needs to mean. The limit is really only your imagination and your creativity. As long as you can track it, document it and post it.
[00:35:23]
At HOPE.dev people can get a free air tag if they go check that out they have a fun opportunity. The accountability program aims to help people document their journey. It's a weapon against fake gurus and frauds. You could use it to be hope for others.
[00:37:35]
The challenge will be opening up enrollment soon. KAID: We're also going to be doing stuff like master classes. This is like, really starting off the whole content creation journey for some people. There are some ideas and techniques that I want to work on.
[00:40:16]
We're going to be doing member makeovers, too. How do you actually make this not just a 100 day challenge, but a lifestyle? We've talked about content strategy for life. What if no one trusts any of this?
[00:46:19]
This is super exciting. Do you have ideas for how this technology or what we can do with this over the next year to two to five to ten years? How can we make it all work together? With distributed ledger technology, there's a huge opportunity AND issue. Getting into how to help content creators document their journey.
