Maple Leafs Win Draft Lottery & Avalanche Take a 2-0 Series Lead

SiriusXM Morning Skate with Scott Laughlin, Gord Stellick & Tyler Madarasz

The Toronto Maple Leafs landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft after winning the Draft Lottery. The San Jose Sharks secured the No. 2 pick, while the Vancouver Canucks will select third overall. Despite entering the lottery with just an 8.5 percent chance — the fifth-best odds — Toronto moved up to claim the top spot for the third time in franchise history. The Maple Leafs previously selected Auston Matthews first overall in 2016 and Wendel Clark in 1985. The Colorado Avalanche win 5-2 over the Minnesota Wild in Game 2 of the Western Conference Second Round. Nathan MacKinnon led the way with a goal and two assists, while Martin Necas and Gabriel Landeskog each added a goal and an assist. Scott Wedgewood stopped 29 shots as Colorado, the top seed in the Central Division and Western Conference, extended its series lead to 2-0.

Theodore is the OT Hero for Vegas, Crosby & the Penguins Stay Alive

SiriusXM Morning Skate with Scott Laughlin, Gord Stellick & Tyler Madarasz

The NHL playoffs are delivering nonstop drama, and last night was no exception. Shea Theodore played hero for the Vegas Golden Knights, burying an overtime winner in a thrilling 5-4 Game 4 victory over Utah, sending his team back home with a huge boost of momentum. Meanwhile, Kris Letang continues to clutch up for Pittsburgh, scoring his second straight game-winner to keep the Penguins alive against the Flyers. Tonight’s slate is just as intense: the Buffalo Sabres have a chance to eliminate the Boston Bruins, the Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars clash in a pivotal Game 5, and the Edmonton Oilers return home fighting to stave off elimination against the Anaheim Ducks.

Avalanche Claim Presidents Trophy, Caufield Scores 50, Penguins & Mammoth Clinch

SiriusXM Morning Skate with Scott Laughlin, Gord Stellick & Tyler Madarasz

The Colorado Avalanche lock up the Presidents’ Trophy as the league’s top regular-season team, while Cole Caufield hits the 50-goal mark in a standout season for Montreal and Peter DeBoer gets his first win as Islanders head coach. The Pittsburgh Penguins punch their ticket to the playoffs, and Utah makes franchise history—clinching its first-ever postseason berth in just its second season thanks to a Ducks win over San Jose. We also break down key movement in the wild card race, with the Senators strengthening their position behind a big night from Fabian Zetterlund and the Kings climbing back into the picture with a two-goal performance from Adrian Kempe. The Red Wings stay alive after a massive five-point game from Moritz Seider, while the Sabres continue their surge and hand Columbus a tough loss. Plus, the Golden Knights stumble in their first game under John Tortorella, and John Carlson records his first NHL hat trick as the Ducks snap their skid. It’s a night full of milestones, playoff implications, and momentum shifts as the regular season winds down.
