In the East Toronto used the power play to dominate game 1, while the Canes played their steady game in an opening win. The young Habs showed grit in a comeback verse Washington, but the Caps prevailed in overtime. Vancouver Canucks held an end of season press conference and lots came out of it. Is Tocchet done, will Elias Pettersson be moved this off-season and is a rebuild on the horizon if cornerstone Quinn Hughes wants out?

On this episode we revisit the Carolina Hurricanes gamble on Mikko Rantanen and how the situation may affect teams making the big splashes in the future. As the NHL season enters its stretch run, the wildcard races are heating up. Every game is important now and we have a look at where teams currently sit. Ottawa looks legit and a young Montreal team controls their own destiny for a playoff spot, while the two New York teams and floundering Detroit and Columbus are all in the hunt. Out west the St. Louis Blues are the hottest team in the league and have overtaken Calgary and Vancouver for the second wildcard spot. Vancouver's turmoil's season has them in jeopardy of missing playoffs, while a surprising Calgary team control's their own fate with games in hand. The LA Kings and Edmonton Oilers are set to square up for a fourth season, and this just might be LA's year to "slay the dragon". Positive news on the injury front as Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog has been travelling and skating with the team for over a week. This hints at a possible return, as we break down what that might mean.

The trade deadline has passed and the arms race is over, as teams set their sights fully on the chase for the Stanley Cup! Five teams made big swings this deadline period, as the Dallas Stars landed the biggest piece in Mikko Rantanen, while Colorado revamped their centre depth to arguably be the best in the Western Conference. While in the East all eyes were on the Atlantic, as the Toronto Maple Leafs bring Scott Laughton in as their 3C and bolster the blue line with a surprise addition. The Florida Panthers broke the hearts of a division rival obtaining their captain, while the Tampa Bay Lightning feel they have the best mix of a top 9 forward group in the division. The biggest surprise move came between Ottawa and Buffalo, as the teams swapped young centermen, a move that Ottawa hopes puts them over the edge for the playoff race.

The Edmonton Oilers released a statement giving their support for captain and star player Connor McDavid as he deals with a 3-game suspension for cross-checking Connor Garland. Midseason reviews continue with the Metropolitan. Is the Rangers strong start to 2025 a sign they are turning the ship around? and if so can they do it with how tight the Eastern Wildcard race is? The Washington Capitols are one of the darlings of the league, with Logan Thompson continuing to make Hockey Canada's goaltending decisions questionable, and Pierre-luc Dubios fitting in nicely. In Columbus the Blue Jackets are the other darling of the league, with Zach Werenski staking his claim for a Norris trophy and the young stars finding their own in the NHL. The Hurricanes and Devils are where we thought they'd be, though the Devils have slipped recently (PS episode recorded Thursday night). In Long Island, the Islanders are the epitome of mediocrity, briefly touching on their struggles, before shifting to Pennsylvania to talk about the other mediocre teams in the division in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

The trade deadline has passed as the guys review the carnage left in it's wake. The Colorado Avalanche were one of the more busy teams making multiple moves leading up to the 3pm March 8 deadline. As the boys scan the new look Avs roster and grade how Chris MacFarland did at this deadline, attention quickly shifts further West to Vegas, as the Golden Knights did it again! Not only did Vegas land Noah Hanafin out of Calgary, but they came out of left field late nabbing Thomas Hertl from San Jose. A quick review of the Oilers and Jets deadlines as they try and keep pace in the West, while the East was generally quiet, Carolina and Florida made some splashes that may put them in prime position. The Canes bringing in Guentzel and Evgani Kuznetsov, while the Panthers added Vladimir Tarasanko and depth leadership Kyle Okposo. We run through our winners/losers of the deadline, as it all comes down to the play on the ice! Playoffs are fast approaching ladies and gentleman and teams are just getting primed!
