Expanding Your Kids World View with David Platt

There are roughly 3 billion people in the world who don't have access to the Gospel. As a parent, how would you feel if your son or daughter wanted to take the good news to the nations?

Sharing a biblical worldview with our children is so important as followers of Christ, yet often times feels scary as a parent. Out of fear we keep our kids from knowing the dark parts of world. We shield them from poverty, those who are incarcerated, or simply those who are just "different" from us. How could our families look different and how could the hearts of our children transform if we were to learn together how to serve the least of these in our very own communities?

Today's expert is David Platt, husband, father of 4, and lead evangelical pastor at McLean Church. David has written numerous books on faith and is the founder of Radical, an equipping program helping Christians and churches develop and focus on the importance of spreading the gospel. He confronts the hard reality of the current state of our society and focuses everything back to the truth of the gospel. In today's episode David challenges parents to ask this question: Are we discipling or disinfecting our kids? Wondering what that means? Listen now and get ready to be challenged!

The Long Letting Go

In this final episode of season one, Lisa and Jamie discuss the heart-wrenching yet life-giving process of letting our kids go. From the moment they are born, our job, as parents, is to teach them to be independent of us, and to move through life without us- gradually. This is both beautiful and difficult, heart-breaking and rewarding. Elyse Fitzpatrick is the special expert guest on today's show and we think you will especially love her insight on this topic.

Links:

Connect with Elyse:
Instagram | Front Porch With The Fitzes Worthy Podcast | Website

Connect with Jamie:

Instagram | Happy Hour Podcast | Website

Connect with Lisa:

Instagram | Jesus Over Everything Podcast | Ministry Strong Podcast | Website

Mental Health

There are many parents who ask the question, “Am I a bad parent if my child struggles with mental health?”. The answer is, no. Lisa Whittle, Jamie Ivey and Toni Collier all have children who see or have walked through counseling. Toni says counseling for her is one of the best decisions she has made because she believes in being the healthiest version of ourselves so that we don't leak onto our spouses, community or children. Lisa reminds us one of the best ways to parent is to deal with our own mental health. Mental health is often overlooked but believe it or not, you're a better caregiver when you're taking care of yourself.

Links:

Connect with Toni:
Instagram | Still Coloring Podcast | Website

Connect with Jamie:

Instagram | Happy Hour Podcast | Website

Connect with Lisa:

Instagram | Jesus Over Everything Podcast | Ministry Strong Podcast | Website

Have you been in your feelings about your kids wanting to hangout with their friends or have dinner with the neighbors instead of you?

Have you had those moments where you hold your breath in hopes that your kids are going to behave a certain way in public settings? Do your kids misbehave only in public settings? Lisa Whittle and Jamie Ivey share their experience on how they define themselves as a successful parent. Jamie shares that one of her biggest problems was comparing herself to other parents. She also shares, to be a successful mom means dying to what others think about her as a mom, doing the best with what she has, and having a community of people surrounding her and trusting God.

Links:

Connect with Jonathan Pokluda:
Instagram | Becoming Something Podcast The Porch Podcast Views From The Porch| Website

Connect with Jamie:

Instagram | Happy Hour Podcast | Website

Connect with Lisa:

Instagram | Jesus Over Everything Podcast | Ministry Strong Podcast | Website

As believing parents we all imagine and wait on the day when our children accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, but what happens when that doesn't happen in the timely manner that we expected? Lisa, Jamie, and Jen Wilkin share about their children coming to the faith and how important it is to involve children in adult faith based conversations when appropriate. Lisa reminds us, including our children in our ministry allows them to grow while knowing what it’s like to serve and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Links:

Connect with Jen:
Instagram| Flower Mound Women's Bible Study Knowing Faith Podcast | Website

Connect with Jamie:

Instagram | Happy Hour Podcast | Website

Connect with Lisa:

Instagram | Jesus Over Everything Podcast| Ministry Strong Podcast | Website

Worry is something we all deal with as parents. None of us want to be worriers, but it feels so natural at times. What can we practically do when the worry comes? In this inaugural episode of Launch, Jamie Ivey and Lisa Whittle discuss where worry stems from in their lives and how helpful they’ve found prayer to be in their own personal journey through parenthood. They each give us practical steps to overcome that inevitable worry. We also welcome special guest Kathryn Freeman to this episode to give us her thoughts on worry- based on her personal and professional experience.

Links:

Connect with Kathryn:
Instagram | Melanated Faith Podcast | Website

Connect with Jamie:

Instagram | Happy Hour Podcast | Website

Connect with Lisa:

Instagram | Jesus Over Everything Podcast | Ministry Strong Podcast | Website
