Mario Hall shares his amazing story of recovery. Having spent over 30 years addicted to cocaine, Mario missed out on tremendous opportunity to become a professional athlete. For years he had no motivation to quit using, but after an arrest uprooted his entire life he could no longer hide his addiction. Starting with Benjamin’s birth into a loving two-parent household, we see him grow up, take his first sips of beer with his cousin Kyle, strike out with the girl of his dreams, and join the Marines to find purpose. Disaster strikes as both young men struggle to cope with physical and mental trauma. Seeking love and understanding, heroin fills the void and runs rampant. However, Benjamin finds a sense of stability in his newfound love, Mara. While the relationship seems to be perfect to Benjamin and Mara, it creates a terrible rift in Benjamin's family ultimately forcing Benjamin to make the hardest decision of his life.

In light of Michael’s death, I wanted to release this to our friends, families, and anyone that is struggling.  Not for attention to me but more to the fact that addiction is real and it’s stealing the lives of people we love. 

It’s also nice to hear Michael’s voice. 

I’ve always known the real possibility of relapse or death for one of my friends (and even myself for that matter), but each one of these stories is important to share and that’s what I will continue to do.

As Drug Court judge, Judge Kim Burke has provided a second chance to over 2,200 graduates suffering from substance abuse issues including me.  

Judge Burke has been Hamilton County's drug court judge since 2001. Established in 1995, Hamilton County has the first and only full-time drug court in the state of Ohio, and one of the oldest drug courts in the United States.

Judge Kim Burke has spent time as a faculty member of the National Judicial College where she taught a course to fellow judges on substance abuse issues. She was also appointed to be a member of the Supreme Court of Ohio Advisory Committee on Specialized Dockets, where she helped create standards for Ohio judges who wish to create or preside over a drug, mental health, DUI, or other type of treatment court.  

 Prior to her time as the Drug Court judge, Judge Kim Burke was a judge on the Hamilton County Municipal Court and a magistrate in Hamilton County Juvenile Court. Before her career on the bench, Judge Burke began her legal career as an assistant prosecuting attorney and spent time as a litigator for a large Cincinnati law firm.  https://www.judgekimburke.com/

Dopey is an American self-help and comedy podcast about personal experiences of substance abuse and addiction. The show is anonymously hosted by Dave, a recovering addict based in New York City, and was formerly co-hosted by Chris, a fellow addict and graduate student from Boston, Massachusetts. Dave has described the show as being about "drugs, addiction, and other dumb shit." Initially conceived as a show about the humorous side of addiction, specifically excluding stories about recovery, the focus has changed over time, especially following Chris' relapse and overdose death in July 2018.

As it grew larger, he found himself using more and ever closer to a pit of despair. At one point, he even tried taking his life and though he set out to die that day, a power greater than himself stepped in and everything changed.

Today, Casey has a life that revolves around his faith, family, and helping others. He is an active member of society and is changing the narrative of what Recovery looks like. He is an advocate for those who need our help and does community outreach with Dayton Recovers. He is doing BIG things!

Jeffrey Hoglund shares his amazing story of Recovery. Growing up in Seattle, Washington Jeff had a strong christian upbringing, played sports, and loved being the center of attention. Upon turning 18, Jeff aimed to go against every rule his parents had growing up and embraced the life of a rebel. From piercings and tattoos to drugs & alcohol, MDMA to Oxycontin, Crystal meth and stints in jail.

Today, Jeff has a life that centers around God, his Recovery and his wife. This story is too wild to summarize, but i can say this... you'll be glad you tuned in.

Paul D. Wise shares his amazing story of Recovery. From getting in trouble selling pills in 8th grade, to dropping out of school by 10th grade, Paul was on a path of destruction most of his early life. By the age of 20, he was mostly homeless, eating out of trashcans and selling drugs.

On 6/16/2010 everything changed... Paul started his recovery journey at court ordered treatment, and has been able to have a life beyond his wildest imagination.

Today, Paul has a life that centers around his Recovery and helping others. He participates in a 12 step fellowship, become a Recovery advocate and a trusted Board member for FOA Families of Addicts. He is doing BIG things!

Tracy Brumfield shares her amazing story of Recovery. A migraine sufferer, Tracy was prescribed narcotic pain medication and eventually became addicted...This led her down a path of multiple treatments, getting in trouble with the law, a prison stint, and becoming homeless.

Sitting on a corner in the freezing cold panhandling for change, Tracy felt less than human... Until a complete stranger showed her some love and everything changed.

Today, Tracy has a life that centers around helping others and her Recovery. She started a newspaper called RISE that helps Ohio’s inmates rebuild their lives and is a source of inspiration for many people. She is doing BIG things!

Glenn Lundy shares his amazing story of Redemption. Growing up in Flagstaff, AZ Glenn thought his problems were everyone else. After a series of disappointments, Glenn found himself wanting to die and tried to take his own life. Unsuccessful in his attempt and by the Grace of God, Glenn once again embraced a life worth having... just to throw it away again.

After so many chances, Glenn finally submitted to God and became a steward of good will. Today, he can be found hosting #RISEANDGRIND at 5:30 every morning on Facebook, sharing Gods love for others and encouraging them to live to their fullest potential.

From biker gangs and drug running, to straight A's and marrying his high school sweetheart. Joe seemed to have a great hold on life, even became a successful master electrician until his addictions took over and everything came crumbling down.

Today, Joe has a life that centers on his family and helping others. He does tremendous amounts of outreach and runs "Recovery Champions". Joe is doing BIG things.

Episode 19: The Fighter - Daniel Ritchie

Daniel Ritchie shares his amazing story of Recovery. Growing up in Finneytown Ohio (A small suburb) Daniel experienced chaos almost daily. By the age of 15 Daniel was selling and using drugs, getting into fights, and frequently spent time in jail. This led to Juvenile Prison, where he wasn't released until after his 18th birthday. Having spent a majority of his teenage years incarcerated, Daniel developed a strong disregard for authority. As a young adult, he channeled his love for fighting into amateur MMA and won multiple fights in the Ohio Tri-state area. During this time, Daniels drug use grew into something he could've never imagined and drove him to the point of homelessness.

Today, Daniel has a life that centers around his family and helping others. He works as a Peer Volunteer at UC Hospital helping addicts and alcoholics currently at the hospital to get into treatment. He's writing a book on his life, in school for real estate, and a self proclaimed "Lover & Fighter".

Jen Belemu shares her amazing story of Recovery. Growing up in a small town in Ohio Jen experienced racism early in her life. As a teenager she was assaulted by 4 men and run over by a vehicle causing her to have a Traumatic Brain Injury. As a result of both physical and emotional pain, Jen sought the comfort in drugs & alcohol. As early as 15 years old, Jen was introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous and after almost 10 years she finally had enough and changed her life. Jen has been clean and sober for over 20 years.

Today Jennifer has a life that centers around helping others. She works with Heartland High School, which focuses on providing a safe place for kids with substance use disorders and addictions to learn. She is the definition of "Doing BIG Things"

Kyle Klinefelter tells his amazing story of Recovery. Growing up in the west side of Cincinnati, Kyle struggled with fear most of his life. From worrying about what people thought about him as a kid, the fear of losing his life to cancer, to being afraid of the man he had become because of drugs and alcohol.

It took an act of God to get him clean... And he has been for over 3 years.

Today, Kyle has a life that centers around helping others. He works at Hotel California by the Sea - Cincinnati as part of their treatment staff and is shining example of what Recovery looks like. Keep doing BIG things Kyle.

Jake Bradshaw shares his amazing story of Recovery! Growing up an only child and surrounded by free thinkers, Jake has always been encouraged to do something amazing. Living in the suburbs of Portsmouth Ohio, Jake experienced the Opioid Epidemic firsthand and has lost many people along the way. Even with his own addiction struggles, Jake was able to have a successful career as a Stock Broker until it all came crumbling down around him. From many run-ins with the police, a stint in federal prison, and personal degradation, Jake finally embraced a life worth living.

Today Jake has a life that centers around helping others. Created and manages the successful Facebook account "Humans of Addiction" and always makes himself available to someone in need - Jake is the definition of "Doing BIG things"

Episode 10: The Redemption of Yukon Mike

In 2014, after watching the last of an entire family die from drugs, the last two from heroin, Tom met with other members in Hamilton County and helped form the Hamilton County Heroin Coalition where he sits on the Steering Committee and Chair Interdiction. Mr. Synan coordinates law enforcement efforts to reduce supply and works with other members to help reduce demand.

Mr. Synan was asked to testify in Washington D.C.at a U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee giving testimony on synthetic opiates and the impact Fentanyl and Carefentinal have had on the country. Mr. Synan was a speaker with President Clinton and other distinguished panelist for the Clinton Foundation discussing the opioid crisis at Johns Hopkins University.

Mr. Synan’s career and work with the opiate epidemic has been recorded and archived in the National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington D.C. His work with the Coalition has been used in national and international publications and media outlets. Mr. Synan has spoken internationally on the heroin issue. Mr. Synan has been able to see all the ways that heroin touches lives and all the efforts it takes to help individuals, families struggling with addiction and the impact on communities; and has an in-depth understanding of the complexity of this issue.
