On this episode we are looking at two different flowers you could work with that are perfect to plant during this month - cornflowers and hollyhocks.

Hollyhock stands at the edges of the home, a traditional guardian of thresholds. It carries the energy of protection and abundance.

Cornflower carries the magic of intuition, clarity and inner sight. Its vivid blue has long been linked to the third eye supporting divination and deeper perception.

In Slavic folklore we meet Habernitsa, the Cornflower Wraith. A noon spirit said to dwell in the fields. She reminds us that the spirit world often meets us in unexpected ways.

Cornflower also appears in the story of Chiron, the wise centaur, who used its healing properties after being wounded by a poisoned arrow during the chaos of Heracles’ battle with the nine-headed serpent, the Hydra.

We also look at the owl, a guide between worlds. It represents deep, earned wisdom often found in stillness. Its presence reminds us to trust what we sense, even when it cannot yet be explained.

In this March episode we explore the spiritual symbolism of the badger and its place within witchcraft, folklore and the awakening energies of early spring.

We begin by looking at the difference between power animals, spirit animals and totem animals exploring how animals can appear within magical practice as guides, protectors and reflections of our own inner nature.

The badger carries strong spiritual themes of earth magic, resilience, protection and boundaries. As an animal that lives beneath the soil in deep underground setts it has long been associated with the underworld, hidden knowledge and the quiet strength required to move through darkness before returning to the light. We also explore the badger’s connections to witchcraft and British folklore.

We then look at the Celtic goddess Brigantia, a powerful deity associated with northern Britain, sovereignty and the land itself. Brigantia’s energy reflects the stirring of the earth as winter loosens its grip and spring begins to rise.

To close the episode we step into folklore with a March tale called Goblin Coombe, a mysterious wooded valley in Somerset long associated with fae legends and supernatural encounters. This story is from the book Telling the Seasons - Stories, Celebrations and Folklore around the Year by Martin Maudsley.

This episode has been one of my favourites to research and was something I discovered last month whilst working on the Angels theme for my Patreon, The Hedge & Hollow.

In this episode I explore The Book of Raziel where language, timing, planets, angels and intention were understood as part of a single living system.

We look at the idea of words as vibration, sacred names and why the Hebrew letters were treated as energetic forces rather than symbols. I talk about how this tradition connects to the 72 Names of God, spell timing, planetary days and the correspondences modern witches still work with, often without realising how old these systems truly are (I know I had no idea!).

We also touch on the lineage that flows from Raziel through Adam, Enoch, Noah and Solomon and how this current eventually shaped medieval grimoires, Renaissance magic and later systems like the Golden Dawn.

In today’s episode we journey through December folklore, peeling back the Christian veils to reveal the older stranger magic beneath.

From there, we descend into the symbolism of the sickle — a tool of harvest, severing and fate. We explore its mythic lineage through Morana, Mokosh, Cronus, Saturn, the Grim Reaper and the Druidic priesthood. You will hear about the magical uses of sickles across Europe, their protective and banishing powers and how you might weave this ancient blade into your own witchcraft practice today.

We close with a look at Mothers’ Night (Modranicht) — the Anglo-Saxon celebration honouring ancestral mothers, protective spirits and the deep feminine that presides over midwinter. Also includes some simple, meaningful ways to honour this sacred night in your personal craft.

We begin by exploring how Brianna was taught witchcraft through her family line, including traditional fortune-telling methods passed down through generations. She speaks about crystal ball reading, divination with playing cards, and the ways her ancestors taught her to see, sense and interpret signs. Brianna also shares stories of how she has supported her community — helping farmers with their crops, performing spellwork for those seeking guidance, and calling upon her spiritual court, including a powerful spirit known as The Rider, who she describes in depth. One of my favourite parts of this conversation was hearing how she works with the sickle as a magical tool, both symbolically and practically.

We also explore Brianna’s use of animal remains within her craft — a topic she approaches with complete reverence. She works only with animals already sacrificed for food, honouring every part of their body in accordance with ancestral custom. Nothing is taken lightly. Nothing is wasted. Her approach reflects a form of witchcraft that is deeply rooted in reciprocity and respect, far removed from modern farming systems and very aligned with how our ancestors lived in relationship with the land.

Another fascinating thread in this episode is how Brianna weaves her Catholic faith through her folk magic. She speaks about saints, spirits and symbols with the same natural ease that many witches speak about herbs or lunar phases. Her practice mirrors the syncretic paths of many folk practitioners throughout history — blending spiritual frameworks with land magic, lineage and personal devotion.

Romany witchcraft is a deeply closed and protected practice, and I am profoundly grateful that Brianna chose to share what she could with us. Chocolate cake recipe 

10 oz self raising flour 

12 oz cocoa or cacao powder  

12 oz castor sugar 

12 oz butter 

6 large eggs 

Mix butter and sugar, gradually add the eggs then flour and coco. I baked at 180 degrees celcius for around 25 minutes 

We made a chocolate ganache for this, for this we used two and a half 180g bars of dairy milk chocolate and 200ml double cream, so break the chocolate up and place in a mixing bowl, then heat the cream up in a pan. Don't let it boil just let it get to a hot temperature, then pour it over the chocolate and mix it together and decorate

Shannon Pearl is a neo-folk musician and witch-pop pioneer from the Northeast of England. Trained as a Priestess and named a Sacred Sound Carrier on the Isle of Avalon, her spellbinding music has been described as "Haunting and ethereal" more than once and often leaves audiences bewitched. Taking inspiration from folklore, ancient tradition and nature and providing a visual spectacle on stage - her music and interwoven story telling will take you deep into the realms of the unknown in a sensory experience you won't forget. As well as this she is a Sacred Celebrant and can marry people within the pagan faith. She leads community based Moon Circles in  her hometown of Sunderland and has just released a brand new Kulning EP named Fae Fälla.
