Greg is off enjoying his 40th birthday week! so it's a re-release this week, but a timely... time(?) to catch up on the OG Ghostbusters episode.

It was only a matter of time before we covered this 80s icon. When we talk about revisiting the movies that impacted us as kids, they don't make them much bigger than this - but it's easy to take for granted the beautiful absurdity of this movie getting made in the 80s, when big budget special effects comedy was simply unheard of. We of course dive deep into this film's rich origin story, as well its cultural legacy today - but perhaps most importantly, we dive into the tin-foil-hat-wearing-lovable-crackpot that is Dan Aykroyd and his obsession with ghosts and aliens that made this movie possible in the first place.

His foot fetish somehow even more pronounced. More, more, more. The list goes on. In all seriousness though, it's too easy to take this franchise for granted, with at least 3 too many sequels contaminating the public consciousness - but it's important to look back at where it all began, and what a fundamentally different movie this one actually was, vs where the franchise has ended up. This is the tale of everyone's favourite Mogwai, Gizmo, and his mates causing a ruckus around town (and maybe some casual murder). Who is to blame - Gizmo? Consumerism? Foreigners? Americans? There are a few readings one can have of this 1984 oddball, but no matter which way you cut it, it's a bloody classic!

035 - It's our first Stallone movie, AND our first Snipes movie. It's criminal that it's taken us this long, but what a great entry point for a chat about these two lat pack stalwarts. This picture is a bit of an oddball: part sci-fi, part satire, part full-blown lat pack action, this didn't open to great reviews back in the day, but is that really fair? looking at it's sci-fi merits, there are a number of future-predictions that this film made that are relatively on-point (seashells aside). Also, Dennis Leary. Remember Dennis Leary? He's in this, being all 'Dennis Leary' and stuff.

Similarly, the soundtrack facilitated an even shorter relationship with Right Said Fred. But what about the movie itself? Does it have the long term appeal that holds up today?
