      <title>Kingsley Art Club Lecture: Scott Shields on Granville Redmond</title>
      <description><![CDATA[<p>American painter Granville Redmond (1871–1935) produced a body of work that captures California’s diverse topography, vegetation, and color. Representing both northern and southern parts of the state, his paintings range in style from contemplative, Tonalist works that evoke a quiet calm, to dramatic and colorful Impressionist scenes. Today, Redmond is widely considered one of California’s top early artists.</p><p><a href="https://www.crockerart.org/exhibitions/granville-redmond" target="_blank"><i>Granville Redmond: The Eloquent Palette</i></a>, curated by Crocker Associate Director and Chief Curator Scott A. Shields, is the largest exhibition of the artist’s work ever assembled and the first in more than 30 years. Mr. Shields holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from the University of Kansas. He has 25 years of museum experience in the Midwest and California, has curated more than 75 exhibitions, and has been the primary or sole author of numerous exhibition catalogues, including Artists at Continent’s End: The Monterey Peninsula Art Colony, 1875–1907; Edgar Payne: The Scenic Journey; A Touch of Blue: Landscapes by Gregory Kondos; <i>Armin Hansen:The Artful Voyage</i>; <i>David Ligare: California Classicist</i>; <a href="https://www.crockerart.org/exhibitions/e-charlton-fortune" target="_blank"><i>E.       <description><![CDATA[<p>Lisa Reinertson shares the journey of her career in art, starting with her student days at UC Davis and the notorious TB-9 in the early 1980s, where she began exploring large-scale figurative ceramic sculptures with a focus on women and nature. Reinertson describes her work on large-scale bronze public commissions with historic and socially-conscious content, such as her several full-size figures on Martin Luther King and the sculpture of Cesar Chavez in Plaza Park in front of City Hall. She concludes with her more recent work, which addresses our relationship and concerns for the life on our planet.</p>
