Becky, Dave and Rob break down the Pittsburgh loss, which at times felt like a flashback to last April.

The last time you heard from the Live from the Blue Seats crew, the Rangers were a buzzsaw. They were dominating opponents and well on their way to securing solid playoff position before the winter chill arrived. Then, everything changed.

The Blueshirts have struggled over the last couple of weeks, with recent losses to the Detroit Red Wings and rival Islanders featuring blown two-goal leads and spiking the anxiety levels of the Garden Faithful. Dave and Rob discuss just how concerned Rangers fans should be about this recent stretch of play, and whether or not fears of missing the playoffs in a season of high expectations are justified.

When it came to Opening Night, things could not have gone better for the New York Rangers. They played a nearly perfect game, dominating the Tampa Bay Lightning by a 3-1 final score that flattered the visitors. K'Andre Miller, Artemi Panarin and new captain Jacob Trouba all stood out, but Mika Zibanejad was on another level. Becky, Dave, and Rob sing the praises of the Rangers' #1 center, and wonder if the 50-goal plateau is achievable for the heart and soul Swede this season.

Justin Braun has bolstered the defense, which already began to turn the corner in January.

The Rangers have been on fire since the trade deadline, and outside of a stinker against the Devils have the look of a team who can make a deep playoff run. On this week's episode of Live from the Blue Seats, Dave and Rob size the team up against their Metropolitan Division counterparts. While matchups against Pittsburgh and Washington seem favorable, the Carolina Hurricanes loom in round 2.

The other big issue is the play of Alexandar Georgiev, who has allowed 4 goals in each of his last two starts, and isn't inspiring much confidence in him as a backup should Igor Shesterkin go down with an injury. With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, the Rangers are being linked to every name on the market. While the focus has been on improving the team's depth, the Rangers have the assets and cap space to make a splash, and some fans are clamoring for Chris Drury to go big. With the huge disclaimer that Rob, Becky and Dave would all be against this move because of his history of assault and rape allegations, Patrick Kane's name comes up because of his star status, his history with Artemi Panarin, and the current state of the Blackhawks, who are about to begin a full-scale rebuild. But if the Rangers are going to bring any stars to New York via trade, they'd likely need to part with Kaapo Kakko. Would it be worth it?

The gang also discusses Igor Shesterkin's Hart Trophy case, with plenty of shots fired at overzealous Toronto Maple Leafs fans who have argued that a goalie shouldn't be eligible for the league MVP award. The show concludes, as always, with answers to some fan questions.

Russ Hartman joins Dave and Rob on this week's show to dissect the Rangers west coast trip so far. With a solid win sandwiched by two lackluster performances, the Rangers find themselves mired in mediocrity at 6-6-1 over their last 13 games. Their inability to generate offense at even strength is a real problem that likely requires a solution from outside the organization. But is this the year to go "all-in" for a run at the Stanley Cup?

The Rangers also made news on Tuesday when Braden Schneider was called up with Nils Lundkvist being sent to Hartford. There was plenty of outrage on Rangers Twitter, but was it justified? And what can we expect from Schneider should he make his debut on Thursday in San Jose?

The Rangers opened 2022 on fire, rattling off three straight wins and showing that maybe they do belong in the conversation as true Stanley Cup contenders. The standings certainly say so, as the Rangers found themselves in first place overall at the conclusion of Monday night's win over Edmonton. What is this team's ceiling? Becky, Rob and Dave discuss that, as well as dig into the ongoing Ryan Strome debate. With the center's contract expiring at season's end, the Rangers will have some difficult decisions to make. As always, the show wraps up with some fan questions.

Also, we poured one out (virtually) for Betty White, who passed away last week at the age of 99. The Rangers did play some games last week, so the gang discusses those too. Why did Friday's loss to Vegas leave such a sour taste in everyone's mouth, even though it was a point earned against a good team? Plus, fan questions with a holiday twist.

With the Rangers playing solid hockey and camping out near the top of the Metropolitan Division, the spotlight has shifted to the struggling Alexandar Georgiev. The Blueshirts' backup was pulled from his most recent start and looks like a goaltender whose confidence has been shaken. Unless Igor Shesterkin can play 64 games in a row (plus the Olympics!), the Rangers are going to need a resolution to the Georgiev situation. Becky, Rob and Dave discuss the merits of waiving Georgiev, or letting him play through his struggles.

Then the gang dives into the trade market, as the Rangers figure to be involved heavily in a search for a middle six winger and defensive depth. Some interesting names came up, including that of former Ranger JT Miller. Could a reunion be in the offing?

Rangers Win the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery!

Who would've thought that August 2020 would turn into one of the most memorable months in the history of the New York Rangers? After a disheartening sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes knocked them out of the NHL playoffs before they even started, Rangers fans turned their attention to ping pong balls. The quirks of this season, brought about by the pandemic and the pause, left the Rangers with a 12.5% chance at the #1 overall pick in October's NHL Draft, and the chance to add a bona fide franchise-changing superstar to their ranks. But in the history of the NHL draft as we know it, the Rangers have never held the coveted number one spot. Until now.

Becky, Dave and Rob giddily react to the Rangers' good fortune, and excitedly (and not always coherently) discuss the possibility of Alexis Lafreniere joining this young team that is very much on the rise. While the 2020 draft is loaded with talent, Lafreniere projects to be a cornerstone player. The Rangers' rebuild has officially moved into its next phase. It's hard not to feel good if you're a Ranger fan right now.

Despite a mediocre record, there are legitimate reasons for optimism for Rangers fans, as the team has been playing much better over the last couple of months. The crew breaks it all down, and then Rob and Becky chat with the first ever guest on the podcast, NYR beat reporter Vince Mercogliano. Vince dives deep into the current state of the team and covers some hot button issues, such as which players are active on social media (looking at you, Tony DeAngelo), how the organization uses analytics, and what the Rangers will do before the February 24 trade deadline.
