TWO GIANT EVENTS at AADL this weekend...

It's Record Store Day Saturday, April 18 from 11AM to 5 PM at the Downtown Library, featuring a pop-up record show at the library. Vendors will be selling used records and music memorabilia. DJs will spin all day and we'll have pinback buttons and tons of fun.

Then Sunday it's Gardening & Farm Fest (April 19) at the Downtown Library from 11AM to 4PM with vendors selling plants and artisan wares, along with talks about gardening. There will also be hands-on crafts, a seed swap, and heat press totes to commemorate the day!

FoolMoon 2026: FoolMoon 2026: Fools of a Feather!

It’s a bird! It's a plane! It's a Fool with wings!

FoolMoon returns to downtown Ann Arbor with light-filled art, street dancing, and Foolish fun! This year's theme, "Fools of a Feather", will invite winged creatures of all kinds to light up Ann Arbor’s streets!

On Friday, April 10th, FoolMoon participants gather at one of 3 different “Constellation Stations”: Slauson Middle School, the front lawn of UMMA, and the Kerrytown Farmers Market. Stepping off at 8pm, the homemade luminary processionals will dance and cavort through downtown Ann Arbor, winding through neighborhoods and past restaurants. Hundreds of luminary sculptures (and their makers!) will pour onto Washington Street in front of Grizzly Peak for a Luminous Celebration of lights, LIVE music, and dancing from dusk to Midnight!

FestiFools 2026: Back to the FOOLture!

NEW EXHIBIT AT THE LIBRARY!
Starting Friday, AADL is showcasing a new exhibit on the second floor called Polio in Ann Arbor. Polio was a scourge in the U.S. and throughout the world, peaking in 1952 with 58,000 cases reported in the United States, mostly in kids under 5. University Hospital in Ann Arbor had a renowned polio wing, where patients young and old received treatment and when the vaccine came, the study of its safety and efficacy was administered here in Ann Arbor. The announcement of its success took place right here in Rackham Auditorium
This exhibit features a collection of photographs from the Ann Arbor News looking back at the story of Ann Arbor's experience with polio and the polio vaccine: a story of illness, of science, and of community.

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the oldest avant-garde and experimental film festival in North America, founded in 1963. Internationally recognized as a premiere forum for independent filmmakers and artists, each year's festival engages audiences with remarkable cinematic experiences. The six-day festival presents 40 programs with more than 180 films from over 20 countries of all lengths and genres, including experimental, animation, documentary, fiction, and performance-based works.

Cleopatra is a fluffy, black-and-white beauty who is ready to rule your heart (and probably your favorite armchair). She’s an adaptable girl who is happy to meet the whole family, though she appreciates a little bit of patience and space while she settles into her new palace.

This queen does have one special requirement for her royal court: she is Feline Leukemia (FeLV) positive. While that might sound a bit daunting, it simply means she needs to be your only cat or live with other FeLV+ feline friends. It isn’t contagious to humans or dogs—it just means she has a little extra "VIP" status and a lot of love to squeeze into her years. 💖

Looking for a new star to brighten your orbit? Meet Andromeda, our latest Pet of the Week from the Humane Society of Huron Valley!

Andromeda is a small adult kitty who has been through a bit of a cosmic storm. She arrived at the shelter with some facial wounds, but thanks to the team at HSHV, she’s all healed up and her fur is growing back nicely! (Think of it as her "warrior" look—she’s a survivor! )

She’s definitely more of a "chilled-out acoustic set" than a "stadium rock" kind of gal. Andromeda is quite shy and looking for a patient human who understands that the best bonds are built over time. Since she prefers the quieter side of life, a home without young children would be her absolute "Zen" space.

• Free printing service—30 pages per person per week, either in-person or you can send things ahead of time

Merrily We Roll Along

Sondheim's semi-autobiographical musical turns back the clock on friendship and the high price of success. Merrily We Roll Along begins in the present and moves backwards, tracing the lives of wealthy, jaded composer, Franklin Shepard, and his two estranged friends through each milestone of their personal and professional lives (good and bad). The show ends with a touch of rueful irony, as the three best friends at the start of their careers face a bright future: young, talented and enthusiastic about the worlds waiting to be conquered.

Meet Wallace, our newest Pet of the Week!

This little gentleman has had quite the journey. When he first arrived at the Humane Society of Huron Valley, he was feeling pretty rough—skin-and-bones and low on energy. But thanks to some serious TLC from the HSHV medical team, Wallace has officially transformed into a world-class "wiggle-butt." 🤭

In fact, he wiggles with so much enthusiasm that he occasionally has to sit down just to recalibrate! 🤣 While he’s putting the finishing touches on his recovery, he’s looking for a patient adopter to fall in love with him now so he can head home as soon as he gets the medical "all-clear."

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT PLAQUES

AADL has launched a call for artists, seeking indigenous artists from the Great Lakes region to create artwork for Land Acknowledgement plaques that the library intends to display at our five libraries and the AALF. Artists can apply, tell us a little bit about themselves, and give examples of past work—we're not looking for spec work here—and then AADL will select six artists to work with and support these artists in creating unique plaques for each location. The call goes through April 1 and AADL will compensate the artists $2,000 plus production expenses are available.

TINY EXPO

Despite its name, this Saturday is the biggest AADL event of the year. TINY EXPO returns to the Downtown Library. Two floors of vendors selling handmade wares from ceramics and clothing to printed goods and jewelry. It's wall to wall amazing, plus drop-in crafts as well. Downtown Library, December 13, 11 AM to 6 PM!

THE JANE AUSTEN BALL

We're celebrating Jane Austen's 250th birthday with a Birthday Ball on Tuesday, December 16 at 5:30 PM at the Downtown Library! Enjoy English Country Dancing, take photos of yourself and your friends, make pinback buttons, and dance the evening away. Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. And who knows, maybe Mr. Darcy will be there!
