Andrew Miliukoff was born and raised in Los Angeles in a musical household, studying classical piano with his mother and rock guitar with his older brother. His parents were part of the White Russian community — émigrés who fled post-revolutionary Russia, loyal to the Tsar and devoted to preserving their traditions in exile. After graduating from Cal State LA, Andrew toured with Ray Charles before becoming a studio musician and later a film editor, working on projects for Budweiser, Mattel, and Ford. He founded Fireball Films, specializing in commercial editing and music scoring for clients such as McDonald’s, In-N-Out, Gwen Stefani, and the Pussycat Dolls, and has since directed and edited campaigns for Toyota, Zynga with Snoop Dogg, and various PSA projects. Based in Los Feliz, Andrew continues freelancing while running his own post-production suite. Passionate about creativity and exploration, he spends his free time traveling to far-flung places—Colombia, Mongolia, Bhutan, even North Korea—while continuing to compose and produce music. Elise Mallove’s connection to natural and plant-based healing began in early childhood, despite it being neither accepted nor practiced in her family. She was drawn to flowers, often picking them, hugging them in the privacy of her room, and even eating them. In her early twenties, Elise moved to Los Angeles and soon found a small shop specializing in natural skin and body care. Stepping into that shop felt like a profound awakening for her, and she spent every spare moment there until she was eventually hired. This led her to become a licensed aesthetician focused on natural skincare. It was through her practice that she met her husband, a holistic MD, and together they shared a journey in holistic health for 25 years. Her flourishing skincare practice shifted when she lost her office space. This coincided with her move to Topanga in 1988, where she realized she was burned out from giving so much of herself. She spent several years running her husband’s office until she felt a renewed calling to help others. She went on to study flower essence therapy, craniosacral therapy, and trained as a hospice volunteer. With COVID, Elise decided to close her practice and retire as she was approaching 70. She now spends her days happily in her cozy treehouse, finding peace and joy in observing nature, especially her “neighbors” — the birds and squirrels. Her mother, an English teacher passionate about women’s rights, and her father, a left- handed baseball pitcher and businessman, instilled in her a love for learning and tenacity. An athlete from an early age, Leslie competed in Junior Olympic gymnastics until age 11, when her family moved and she shifted her focus to dance, acting, and choir. Leslie made her Broadway debut at 17 as the ingénue lead in La Cage Aux Folles and soon after joined NBC’s Search For Tomorrow as a contract player. She has since built a multifaceted career in theater, film, and dance, originating roles on Broadway, including Anne in La Cage Aux Folles and performing alongside Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria. Her passion extends to writing and education; she collaborates with LA Opera’s Education Department, creating original librettos for young audiences. His life has been a winding road from aspiring pop star with anxiety, to heartbroken alcoholic, to thriving mental health survivor and messenger of hope in recovery. Catina DeLuna has been enjoying a successful and varied musical career since beginning to play the piano and sing at a young age. After completing a B.A. in Brazilian Popular Music at the prestigious UNICAMP University in São Paulo, Brazil, she founded two award winning groups: the vocal group Arirê, in which she was responsible for arranging, playing piano, and singing, and the group Serenata Brasileira, playing classic Brazilian songs from the 1920’s and 30’s, in full authentic costume and style. She currently has three independent released CDs available, Na Era de Ouro, from Serenata Brasileira, and Brazilian Accent, her solo debut featuring classic Bossa Nova standards released in Brazil in 2006. In 2015 Catina released her first album in the USA (“Catina DeLuna & lado B Brazilian Project featuring Otmaro Ruiz’) which was nominated for the 58th GRAMMY AWARDS. Additionally, she has recorded many commercial jingles and narrations for national radio and television in Brazil. Since she moved to the United States, she served as visiting scholar at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UofI), was offered a tuition waiver to pursue her Masters Degree in Music at Northern Illinois University and was awarded a grant from the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies at NIU to carry out research on maracatu in Brazil in 2008. After completing her Masters Degree in 2008, Catina moved to Los Angeles where she had the opportunity to teach at several music schools, including Piano-Play Music Systems, USC (University of Southern California), SilverLake Conservatory and LACM(Los Angeles Music Academy). Catina has coached many jazz singers for Brazilian repertoire recording sessions, including internationally acclaimed Kurt Elling. Nina Parker is an American television journalist, television presenter and fashion designer. Parker co-hosts Nightly Pop on E!, a late-night entertainment news show that debuted in 2018.Nina was raised in Sacramento, California. She received her bachelor's degree in broadcast and electronic communication arts from San Francisco State University. Nina began her entertainment career at TMZ in 2007. In 2011, she went on to work as an entertainment correspondent for The Insider. In 2015, she became the host for the Love & Hip Hop reunion shows, and hosted for four years until 2020. She was hired as an inaugural co-host on E!'s Nightly Pop in 2018. On May 14, 2021, she released a self-titled clothing line for Macy's, the first plus-size brand by a Black designer released exclusively by the retailer. She was inspired to develop a line in 2019 due to her own frustration with the lack of fashionable options for plus-size women. Ken Cook, president and co-founder of Environmental Working Group, is widely recognized as one of the environmental community’s most prominent and influential critics of industrial agriculture, U.S. food and farm policy and the nation’s broken approach to protecting families and children from toxic substances. Under Cook’s leadership over the past 20 years, EWG has pioneered the use of digital technologies to expose the harms done by misconceived crop subsidies, crop insurance and runaway agricultural pollution. The organization has also empowered American families with easy-to-use, data-driven tools to help reduce their exposure to potentially harmful ingredients in foods, drinking water, cosmetics and other household products. These unique digital resources are searched hundreds of millions times by consumers, journalists and policy makers. Cook is a widely sought public speaker on these and other environmental health issues and is frequently cited for the outsized impact that his and EWG’s work has had on policy debates in Washington and state and local governments across the country. Highlights include: • Author and food policy expert Michael Pollan named Cook one of “the world’s 7 most powerful foodies” alongside First Lady Michelle Obama, nutritionist Marion Nestle and New York Times columnist Mark Bittman. In pre-Thanksgiving column in 2013, Bittman listed EWG among 25 people and organizations for which he was most thankful. • Capitol Hill’s closely read The Hill newspaper regularly lists Cook in its annual roster of Washington’s top lobbyists. A New York Times profile of Cook said the website helped “transform the [2002] farm bill into a question about equity and whether the country’s wealthiest farmers should be paid to grow commodity crops while many smaller family farms receive nothing and are going out of business.” Cook and EWG played a similarly prominent role during the crafting of the 2008 and 2014 farm bills, fighting successfully to add conservation requirements on farms that benefit from federally subsidized crop insurance. In the 1990s, EWG’s research was a major factor in the passage of the landmark pesticide reform law, the Food Quality Protection Act. EWG was among the first to draw attention to the health threat posed by the weed-killer atrazine and conducted the first extensive tests for the chemical in tap water in 29 Midwest cities. In the last several years Cook and EWG have been in the forefront of national and state campaigns to require the labeling of foods that contain genetically engineered ingredients. Cook has addressed food, agriculture and toxics policy in countless media interviews, including with 60 Minutes, CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, MSNBC, CNBC, FOX Business News, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, Reuters, The Los Angeles Times and The San Francisco Chronicle. Patti Lewis is a yoga student and teacher, mom to a human and a dog, married to an Italian, and loves hiking, the beach as well as snow. Patti wishes she was a better gardener, loves to read and loves eating brown rice and chips but not together, although maybe. Yoga has seen Patti through many life changes, good and bad. It is the thing she consistently comes back to. It is always new, yet old and familiar and welcoming. It forces her to be present and to confront whether she can have compassion for herself as well as others; whether she can be truthful and honest with herself and with others. Yoga has the power to remove layers and brings Patti face to face with herself and allows her to face the wider world. Patti has studied over the years with many teachers for various periods of time. Today we’ll feel and experience Musso and Frank Grill featuring an interview with wonderful Andrea Scuto! Andrea has the honor to serve as the General Manager for Musso & Frank Grill and has been with the company since 2018. He considers Musso’s the pinnacle of his career as a restaurateur. Andrea Scuto was born and raised in Rome, Italy and moved to Los Angeles in 2006. Interestingly enough, Andrea’s background is in music, he used to be a professional guitarist and very early on in life he studied Anthropology. He really wanted to play guitar, but his dad told him there was “no way” unless he graduated from University and… unless he learned “wine”. Thus, at the tender age of 16 Andrea was sent to a very famous “enoteca”, a wine store that had a resident French sommelier. Andrea diligently followed his classes, because he really wanted to play guitar. Once guitar and music became Andrea’s main profession the learning curve flattened and, being a very curious person, he turned his curiosity to food and wine. Andrea had always been the one in his Grandma’s kitchen trying to steal cooking tips and learn how to make things. He also enrolled in a professional cooking class at a very prestigious school in Rome, studying for a year all basic techniques that really helped him become a better cook allowing to work in a few restaurants to get school credits and consulting, and later on, to develop wine programs. During all of this Andrea kept traveling for his music business, and ended up coming to LA pretty often. Andrea loved it so much that after more than a decade he abandoned his music career and focused on hospitality. Andrea ended up working all stations, tending bar, serving and being a captain, a sommelier and then wine director. Later in his career he learned how to manage, how to deal with multiple operation, how to open a wine bar based on his concepts and kept learning and learning. Andrea judged wine competitions and took part in some of them, learned how to make wine and consult with different organizations. The experience at Musso’s has been exciting, humbling, intense and full of incredible people. From the 40 year old tenured staff, both in the dining room and in the kitchen, to Chef JP and Danilo, Mark and his dad John and the rest of the Family, the wonderful regular guests… some of whom Andrea had already known for a long time and they were happy to see him in their favorite restaurant… And then the food: Andrea’s favorite is having a tender Filet Mignon broiled on their 1930’s grill under hot flaming mesquite charcoal from their Grill Master and served Au Jus to maintain the steak texture with a side of legendary creamed spinach. Their Chicken Pot Pie, Prime Rib… the menu is too long and delicious to list, you need to come and try. Carolyn earned her Bachelor’s in Religion Studies, with a focus in Religion & Nature, from the University of Florida and a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University in Denver, CO. She began singing at the age of 19. Valerie sang in front of her first audience trying to win scholarship money for college. From that point on she was bitten by the performance bug. Being introduced to jazz first, Valerie developed her talent by listening to such artists as Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson and Nina Simone. Valerie has performed in various arenas with a wide array of artists such as Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs performing the National Anthem, opening for Jazz Greats Dizzy Gillespie and Mel Torme and Comedian Redd Foxx in Las Vegas. Valerie also traveled internationally with Ray Charles as one of his Raelettes. Valerie’s career has been extensive and fulfilling. Dr. Keenan Reesor is a musicologist and pianist, equally at home in the archive, concert hall, and classroom. As a scholar, he specializes in the music and reception of Sergei Rachmaninoff, and his research has taken him to the British Library, the Library of Congress, and the Glinka Russian Museum of Musical Culture. As a pianist, Dr. Reesor has performed across the United States and Europe and is a double laureate of the Palm Springs International Piano Competition. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies at Southern Virginia University. He and his wife, Nonie, are the proud parents of five boys, ages two to fourteen. Today we’ll feel and experience “Pearl of the Pacific”, beautiful Santa Monica followed by an interview with a uniquely talented artist Melissa Meier. Melissa Meier's work confronts social and spiritual issues by incorporating mixed media sculpture into narrative assemblage. She is constantly working with new processes and structure, for example, with her “Laced” series, she photographed mug shot female portraits in natural light. With wood putty and graphite, the photographic surfaces are re-rendered and then dramatically altered with incised lace patterns. With a feeling similar to the Maori warrior facial tattoos, at once sexy and intimidating, the portraits are created out of a symbol of elegance, femininity and ironically Victorian repression. Meier's latest work entitled “Skins” furthers female portraiture, this time using natural elements such as leaves, feathers, stones, egg shells, pinecones, sticks, sponges, sea shells, scales and fur. Tribal ritual or the future of fashion, the “Skins” series asks the question: is there a difference? Meier spent most of her childhood in Brazil. She received a B.A. from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. She has exhibited her work in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo and was chosen by Sotheby's for their Young International Artists group show and auction in Tel Aviv, Vienna and Chicago. Most recently, in Los Angeles, she has shown at Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts, Bleicher Golightly Gallery, Caporale/Bleicher Gallery and James Gray Gallery at Bergamot Station. In March, 2023, Meier will be having a solo show entitled "Becoming Nature" at The Oceanside Museum of Art in Oceanside, California. Leigh is an artist, author, well known actor and visual philosopher. His highly creative life has been devoted to exploring the symbolical, archetypal and hidden aspects of the psyche and inner self through his art, scholarship, books and experiences as a professional actor for many years. He has hosted twice weekly philosophical discussion groups in his home, Olandar, for over 40 years. His deep knowledge ranges from arcane wisdom, religion, depth psychology and quantum physics to the mythic imagination, theatre and the creation of art. Always the A-student, Joanna graduated cum laude from San Diego State University in 2013, earning degrees in psychology and Spanish. Marc and Laurel have lived in Glendale, CA since 1999, a convenient commuter distance to North Hollywood for Marc’s work as a music and sound editor, and to the Walt Disney Studios where Laurel was a public relations/marketing executive. Twenty-three years later, Marc free lances from his home studio, Laurel runs Digital Communications and Publicity for the Television Academy, and they continue to be the proud parents of Alexandra, an award- winning dancer on the Glendale High Dance Team, and currently a Drama Major/Musical Theatre Minor at Hofstra University on Long Island. After 24 years in Glendale, they still prize the “small town” feel of their community, its good public schools (both served on PTA for many years), and their wonderful neighbors, many of whom worked together to create their recently designated Casa Verdugo Historic District.
