Ep137 A Farewell and Late Season Success

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate gives his farewell as the host of Michigan Wild moving forward. Throughout the intro he expresses his gratitude for the opportunity and finds it hard to put into words how much has transpired over the last few years. He plans on still doing content and some guest co-hosting in the upcoming weeks and months and encourages anyone to follow along on social media to see the direction he ends up going.

It's fitting that for the farewell episode Nate has the opportunity to record once again with Robert McIntyre after a successful late season hunt. Nate and Rob decided to go on a bow hunt together down to Illinois on some public land. They break down the entire hunt and how they put themselves in the right position to fill a tag on a great buck!

A Great Season w/ Bryan Meyering

The Last 7 Days Wk9: More Tags Punched

On this final episode of season 3 of Michigan Wild's The Last 7 Days, Nate does a quick recap on his final week of hunting in Michigan. On Thanksgiving evening Nate was able to punch 2 more doe tags and continue working on closing the gap on buck to doe ratios. It was a picture perfect evening hunt with snow on the ground and deer piling into his food plots. Couldn't ask for a better late November hunt.

Looking ahead for the rest of the year Nate touches on his plans to head down to Illinois for an extended weekend hunt with his buddy Rob. The goal is to learn another area he has never hunted and try and find the best food sources to key on the bed to food pattern. Season is coming to an end and he appreciates all the support for The Last 7 Days.

The Last 7 Days Wk7 Gun Season is Here

On this episode of Michigan Wild's The Last 7 Days, Nate Rozeveld discusses the 7th week of his season. This week marked the highly anticipated opening day of rifle season in MIchigan. Nate shared his story of opening day spent with his family and the tags punched after the hunt. Nate also recaps the last few hunts he had this week including a missed opportunity on a mangy coyote. Rounding out the episode Nate does share some of his insight for the skewed buck to doe harvest in Michigan and compares some harvest data to the surrounding Midwest states. He highly recommends Michiganders to continue to report their harvests to help add data points in order to move the needle in a positive direction for helping manage the resource. Overall a great week spent in the woods with tags punched and a lot of season left to look forward to.

Part 1 starts with a bang as Nate successfully harvested a doe with his bow. He recaps the entire hunt and the strategy leading to another tag punched. Part 2 is a recap of a morning hunt and scout. It lays the foundation for Nate's mindset as he is strategizing the hunt for B8. Part 3 is also an update after his most recent hunt that was exciting and almost resulted in another doe tag punch. After each hunt Nate feels the groundwork is beginning to take shape to close in on an encounter with B8. Going into the 4th week of the season is filled with high anticipation as sweet November is right around the corner!

Ep125 Close To The Edge

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate goes through some current events that involve some real world struggles that are very relatable. He feels this is the least prepared he has been in over a decade going into a fall chasing whitetails. However he is still very excited and ready for October and the passion to fill some tags with his bow is there. Henry, Nate's son, did connect on another awesome buck for the youth season and Nate does a breakdown on the hunt in this episode.

Nate also takes the time to give an update on his fall food plots and mock scrapes and how he has a solid game plan for attacking different properties for the first 10 days of October. He does have a couple target deer he is hoping to locate and hunt and feels the mock scrapes and new plots will aid in that process.

Ending the episode Nate talks about his mindset and the struggles he has faced with his own hunting journey. He had a great conversation with a very successful hunter recently and through the conversation he was challenged and really thought about why he hunts. He has always felt the struggle of being pulled over the edge and becoming all consumed with hunting and shared his thoughts on the matter.

Ep124 Uncomfortable September

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate and Adam Miller from Bowhunter Chronicles Podcasts colab to go over their Uncomfortable September. Both guys have taken advantage of trying new things this September in the woods. Nate had just returned from his Wyoming deer hunt and dove into more detail than previous episodes of the trip and day by day events. Discussing terrain, how he was trying to locate deer, some of his struggles, and the ups and downs of vehicle troubles. Leading up to this week Adam has a bear tag for the UP and he was feeling very uncomfortable. Unlike most of his whitetail hunts where he has to go find the deer, this hunt is more at the mercy of the bear committing to a bait in daylight hours. The guys discuss the process in baiting and expectations leading up into his hunt and the desire Adam has to tag a bear on his family property.

The process of finding a target buck can differ between hunters, however depending on circumstances and the amount of time spent in the woods can increase your odds of finding a buck to hunt. Robert spends a lot of time each year lacing up his boots and getting to work searching and learning to increase his success each fall.

Throughout the episode the guys break down different scenarios and their strategies for finding target bucks. Summer B.S.'n w/ Bryan Meyering

Their shared passion for habitat improvements, raising their families in sports and the outdoors, and chasing whitetails make for a fun episode and an easy friendship.

Habitat improvements is a work in progress for Nate, however Bryan has found a great ROI on all the work he has done with his property. From improved food plots, timber stand improvement, and diversity throughout his property he is already holding more deer consistently, and noticing an increased age class of bucks. The guys also touch on some of their hunting plans for the fall, including out of state plans and their ideas for fall food plots to help capitalize on trends they have seen in the past. Overall, a great summer podcast with two friends talking whitetails into the late hours of the night.

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate comes to you from the field while turkey hunting. Nate's work and coaching schedule has been hectic so he decided to take the time to talk about some current events along with a real time turkey hunting update in this week's episode. Some of the current events include summer 3d league, hunting dog problems, his expectations for the upcoming fall, and taking the boat out fishing.

With the upcoming 3d league starting Nate does a quick dive into his bow/arrow setup and his excitement for TAC. He expresses the enjoyment he has setting a new bow up and looks forward to weekly updates with how he shoots each week. Nate also talks about the struggle with a hunting dog suffering medical issues and how it affects the whole family. Something that many outdoorsmen go through each year and is a process to work through. Nate didn't draw Kansas so the fall is wide open and he talks about his mindset going into this upcoming season. Expectations are different fall to fall and he has time to build on his expectations/goals for 2025.

Turkey Season is Here!

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate and Robert McIntyre dive into a conversation recapping Robert's whitetail season and his first couple days of Turkey season. Robert finished his past fall punching his 3rd and final tag on an out of state buck with his bow. That marked 3 straight years tagging a late season buck with his bow. The season was a grind, but going back to his roots was key to his success. Like chasing whitetails, turkey hunting is another passion for Robert and this season was no different. He had a wild opening day filled with birds and drama. That did not deter him and that persistence was awarded the following morning when he unexpectedly doubled up.

Wrapping up the episode some turkey gear is discussed. The guys talk about the gear used and some recommendations for the newer hunter. Both guys agree that you can get into turkey hunting on an affordable budget and can have a fun successful hunt with limited equipment.

Hog Camp 2025

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate is on a solo mission to bring everyone up to speed on current events. Those current events include a rabbit season update/breakdown, whitetail mindset and scouting update, his upcoming hog hunt, and purchasing a new bow. This time of year is exciting and a transition into preparing for the upcoming fall. Nate finds himself shifting focus on more scouting and changing his mindset to focus on upcoming goals.

Rabbit hunting is coming to a quick close so Nate took some time to reflect on this season and the success he had. Fortunately the dogs are ending the season on a high note, and Nate found himself fulfilling a few goals chasing bunnies. Now that the hunting begins to taper off once Nate returns from his hog hunt, whitetails begin to take up time and energy. Discussing some potential bucks to target this fall and some strategy in locating new spots to hunt along with habitat improvements are an increasing priority. Finishing the conversation Nate discusses a recent new bow he purchased and the reasoning behind it.

Steelhead, WMAC, and Fatherhood

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate is joined by Josh Zuiderveen for a good BS session. Fatherhood, steelhead fishing and a local archery club (WMAC) are the main talking points throughout the episode. Raising 2 boys throughout a hectic sports schedule and still getting them involved in the outdoors can be a challenge, but Josh and Nate navigate through the chaos and talk about a mindset fathers should have with their children. Nate did pick Josh's brain about some of the intricacies of steelhead fishing and learned one of Josh's goals for the spring was to get his son his first steelhead.

Josh was also involved in getting WMAC up and running over a decade ago and is still involved with the club. WMAC is a club that Nate has enjoyed over the years and encourages all archers new or old to check it out. Check out West Michigan Archery Center to learn more or become a member!

Reel Obsession

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate has a stellar conversation with Kyle Kunst from Reel Obsession. Kyle loves getting after fish through the ice and Nate actually came across his youtube channel watching an ice fishing video and reached out to record an episode. Not only does Kyle ice fish, he has also fished at a competitive level on open water for many years dating back to highschool. Kyle's journey began as a highschooler with a desire to compete, and it became an Obsession through determination and effort.

Nate being a complete novice to ice fishing and fishing in general really appreciated Kyle's transparency in the competitive fishing space. There were some interesting parallels between finding big fish and big whitetails across the landscape. Even with the ups and downs it's an opportunity for people to chase a passion and attempt to make a name for themselves. Hearing how Kyle started and seeing the point of entry is inspiring and proves that hard work can pay off.

The Neighbor Shot my 200in Buck

On this episode of Michigan Wild we are coming in from the Chilli Buck Lounge over at The Fall Podcast's studio. Nate was able to sit down with Arron Bliese and Russ Papke and dive into the final chapter of a 200+ inch buck. (Mr Krabs) This was a deer Nate had some history with and actually named the deer when he was 2.5 years old in 2021. Nate even sent an arrow at Mr Krabs in 2023. Unfortunately for Nate, Russ didn't miss this fall. He closed the chapter on Mr Krabs and shot an absolute mega giant!

Russ's story for how his fall played out is wild. The ups and downs Russ went through leading up to the moment he saw the deer does bring life into perspective. Life is unpredictable, much like November, and fortunately for Russ he listened to his wife and still spent some time in the woods. Shooting a 200+ inch buck in Michigan is incredible, it's a testament to hunters passing (or missing) deer and striving for a higher age structure across the landscape.

Do Opposites Attract?

Nate embodies the process of building a history with a particular deer in his home state and seeking mature deer out of state. A Fall to Remember

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate is once again joined by the twins, Brandon and Tyler Travis. Both guys had an eventful fall and took time to dive into their season throughout the episode. Brandon's season really didn't start until November because of the typical hectic schedule lots of us hunters face with kids in sports and our work schedules. However once November began so did the roller coaster of a season for Brandon. Tyler's season took a different path than his brothers, but still found himself having an eventful season. Tyler has enjoyed the adventure of hunting out west the last few years. This fall he went to unfamiliar territory and he broke down his mindset heading into the hunt and how he found success.

A 4 Year Journey

Curt didn't grow up in a hunting family and was actually introduced into hunting by his friend Austin. Nate and Curt end up diving into his bowhunting journey. Hearing about the personal growth as a hunter and the journey Curt took to get there is inspiring. Curt hasn't been afraid to put in the effort the last 2 years.

Throughout the last 2 years Curt really saw a change in his understanding of what he was seeing while scouting and hunting. He got more mobile and dedicated more time in listening to podcasts and absorbing content on social media. All these things were a desire because Curt wanted it. He wanted to find a bigger buck on public land in Michigan and wanted to become a better hunter and woodsmen. He took the approach of spending as much time as possible in the woods. Well this past fall all that stuff came to fruition after an eventful December day!

Extreme Weekend Warrior

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate Rozeveld and Josh Arbogast sit down for a long awaited episode. Josh and Nate have been trying to record an episode for a few weeks, but with Nate's hectic schedule with being out of state and the holidays it finally came together. Josh is a passionate bowhunter that allocates his free time chasing whitetails at a high level. He really enjoys scouting and learning areas in the off season and always finds himself on a few out of state hunts each fall. Nate sees Josh as an Extreme Weekend Warrior, based on his effort. He will do multiple weekend trips far from home even in his home state chasing whitetails. He even built out an enclosed trailer to stay in and really enjoyed hunting out of it this fall. Another new thing this fall brought Josh was dedicating his season to one particular buck on public land in MI. The buck won this time, but Josh enjoyed the challenge and feels he has become a better hunter going into 2025.

After talking about Josh's style and progression as a bowhunter the guys dive into Josh's passion for improving the hunting opportunities throughout the whole state of Michigan. Josh actually started the facebook page Michigan Deer Hunters for Change with the intentions of improving the hunting in Michigan. Nate and Josh both agree that there is a dramatic difference in deer behavior and dynamic in other midwest states and believe hunting in Michigan can reflect those. However it takes us as hunters to be at the forefront of that change and not solely rely on the NRC or DNR to make those changes for hunters.

It's Rabbit Season

On this episode of Michigan Wild Nate finds himself recapping his time at ATA and the most recent rabbit hunt. This was the first Archery Trade Association Nate ever attended and he really enjoyed it. Seeing all the companies and the people behind them was a refreshing experience. Nate also was able to see and feel some new products for 2025.

This weekend was the first serious rabbit hunt for Nate this winter. The dogs did fantastic and gunpowder was burned. Nate was able to reflect on his enjoyment chasing rabbits and the time spent with close friends throughout the hunt. Even though whitetail season isn't done for Nate, the majority of his focus is on small game hunting and scouting for the upcoming season. There will be opportunities to punch a few more tags in the upcoming weeks, but those will be very calculated if a target buck shows up.

Michigan Wild West

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate sits down and goes over some current events and recaps his South Dakota pheasant hunt. This was a fun, quick hunt that included Nate's family and dog Frank. Nate recaps the couple days of hunting and talks about what he really enjoys with upland hunting in the western states. The vast, wide open landscape has a natural beauty and is unlike anything Nate can hunt in Michigan.

The trip was a success and Nate looks forward to future training with his dog Frank and finding himself headed west for more hunting opportunities. Punching Tags

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate puts a wrap on 2024 with Punching Tags! Nate found some recent late season success with his bow and broke down his late season strategy. Being successful in the late season involves strategic planning and observation. Searching for the correct properties, utilizing food plots, and having effective access has increased the quality of Nate's hunts the last few years. This approach has morphed into finding those areas that produce opportunities throughout the fall, not just a specific time frame.

Going into 2024 Nate felt like he had to do a better job at harvesting some does. Typically every fall Nate gets at least 1 or 2 does, but felt like the deer population had increased dramatically and saw the negative impact first hand. So this fall he decided to put a higher emphasis on targeting them. It was a process and had its shares of ups and downs, but Nate found himself punching 2 tags December 20th.Capitalizing on a great weather pattern and a micro food plot led to an awesome hunt.

Season Recap w/ Drew Hasler

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate and Drew Halser sit down and recap their season. Drew and Nate have both had similar experiences this fall. Both guys ended up punching their Kansas tags this year while still finding themselves holding onto their Michigan buck tags. Not only do they have their tags, but the target bucks they were chasing got shot by neighbors. Having a target buck harvested by a neighbor isn't a new thing, but it is always difficult to deal with. Nate and Drew both agree that trusting the process and sticking to their goals will pay off in the long run. The mere fact that they both have higher age class bucks to even chase is a win in their book and is a testament to all the hard work and dedication put forth each year.

Kansas was good to Nate and Drew this fall as they each filled their buck tags. Drew took a slightly different approach with scouting on this out of state hunt and it sure paid off. Drew had multiple encounters with shooter bucks and ultimately sealed the deal after a rollercoaster of a hunt. Nate and Drew both emphasized the importance of tackling a wide area/variety of properties as a team on this trip. By combining all the data learned through scouting and deer sightings it really helped both guys kill their Kansas bucks.

Rounding out the episode both guys are optimistic that they can get on a target buck these last few weeks of season. There are some great opportunities left and the plans are already in place to have a steller fall in 2025.

The Last 7 Days wk 7&8 BUCK DOWN!

On this episode of Michigan Wild's The Last 7 Days Nate and Bryan dive into the story of Nate's Kansas Buck. This ended up being Nate's first out of state archery buck and first public land buck. Nate ended up making a second trip down to Kansas and with this time being solo it was a trip of many firsts. Bryan and Nate flipped roles which led to some great questions and a deep dive into ground hunting, scouting, and finding a spot to hunt out of state.

In this episode Nate emphasized the importance of being prepared with a bow while scouting, understanding wind direction, and adapting to different terrains. All these things helped lead to his success by allowing him to understand unfamiliar places while getting a feel for deer activity in each given area. Nate also shares his thrilling experience on the hunt for his buck, detailing the anticipation leading up to the shot, the aftermath of a missed opportunity, and the emotional journey of tracking the deer.

1st Out of State Buck

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate Rozeveld and Bryan Meyering once again sit down and discuss an awesome buck Bryan shot down in Ohio. Bryan has been hunting out of state in Ohio for the last 4 years and finally connected on his first out of state buck. Going out of state with friends and trying to hunt in a landscape unfamiliar to their home state of Michigan always comes with challenges. Staying persistent and really learning how deer use a particular landscape helped Bryan find success down in Ohio.

It took 3 previous years of scouting more than hunting and not settling for the lack of deer activity for Bryan to find this particular set up. It had a few factors that keyed him onto this area and warranted him to throw a sit or 2 at it. Even with the spot being really close to a road he still felt like it was a good play for the 1st sit of his trip. Shortly into his rutcation Bryan connected on his 1st out of state buck!

Rounding out the episode Bryan and Nate recap their season in Michigan. Both guys have had some really good bucks killed by neighbors, cars, or family members. They are both attempting to locate and find other potential shooters and are not sleeping on the month of December to potentially have some good opportunities!

Last 7 Days: Weeks 5 & 6

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate is solo once again recapping the last 2 weeks of his season. These 2 weeks included opening day of Michigan's firearm season and his trip out to Kansas. Opening day of Michigan's rifle season is something that Nate and his son Henry have been enjoying for many years. Especially now that Henry has his own tag in his pocket and has been finding his own success the last 2 falls. This year Henry had a doe tag in his pocket and was able to fill that tag on a beautiful doe. Once again making memories to last a lifetime.

After Henry's tag was punched the next priority was Kansas for Nate. That included leaving the house at 2am and heading west. Kansas was the adventure that Nate looks forward to every fall when he travels out of state chasing whitetails. Through the episode Nate breaks down his thoughts and how the trip played out for him, including all the mistakes and success he faced. Nate breaks down every day of hunting and scouting along with every encounter he had on this trip. Kansas was unlike any other place he has hunted with a wide variety of diversity and difficult terrain.

Overall opening day of rifle was a huge success and so was the trip to Kansas for Nate. These are the moments that guys work so hard for and they go by so quickly every fall. The season isn't over yet and Nates got 3 buck tags he is still looking to fill!

Paddle Boat Buck

On this episode of Michigan Wild, host Nate Rozeveld welcomes Jake Bollinger, a passionate hunter and habitat manager. They discuss the excitement surrounding the upcoming gun season, family traditions related to hunting, and the importance of processing deer personally. The conversation shifts to hunting access, land management strategies, and the significance of creating wildlife-friendly habitats. They also explore deer movement patterns, the use of technology in habitat management, and the value of community knowledge sharing in hunting. The episode continues with a captivating story about Jake's buck from the current season, which was shot in late October after making an aggressive move because the farmer drove by on a UTV.

Jake knew about this buck and was able to put the puzzle pieces together by finding scrapes and understanding how deer like to bed on his property. After making the shot the recovery was unique and Jake was in uncharted territory after not hitting the buck ideal. He discussed the challenge of tracking and recovering his deer, particularly after a gut shot, and how waiting until the following morning was critical to recovering his deer.

Overall you can sense the passion Jake has for hunting and improving the landscape. He isn't afraid of some sweat equity and is always learning and attempting new strategies. He is very relatable to the majority of hunters who find themselves hunting the family farm or own their small piece of heaven. Leaving behind the property better than he found it is the driving force and he is already looking forward to starting habitat improvements this upcoming year.

Cam's October Lull Buck

On this episode of Michigan WIld Nate and returning guest Cam Carpenter dive into the success story of Cam's 2024 archery buck. Cam is no stranger to shooting above average bucks in Michigan even at his young age. He has tagged multiple mature deer and enjoys the process and the challenge it offers each year.

Even though this buck was shot during the October lull, this story starts over the summer. Cam gained access to a new property and had no idea what to expect. While expectations were soon set shortly after deploying cams as multiple bucks showed up and stayed leading up to October 1st.

As the first few weeks of the season progressed Cam had multiple encounters with this deer. He stayed persistent and stuck to his game plan. Every encounter Cam continued to learn more about the buck and how he used the property. All that came together on October 17th when Cam shot his October Lull Buck!

Recurve Debacle

On this episode of Michigan WIld, Nate Rozeveld is solo this week. Nate takes the opportunity to do a season update and break down some of his hunts where he saw target deer and discuss the Recurve Debacle. The fall of 2024 has been exciting and challenging for Nate. He has had multiple encounters with target deer every week of October so far. Each encounter has been under different circumstances and yet to reveal a punched tag.

Facing different crop rotations and an influx of deer density has been part of the challenge and has found Nate hunting multiple October mornings. The morning of the 25th proved to be the start of the Debacle. Nate goes into detail of the hunt and the decisions that lead to the tree he found himself in and what ultimately led to a shot on a buck with his recurve.

The story didn't end with a grip and grin, however Nate still has the desire and confidence to continue hunting with his recurve. October is almost to a close with some good hunts left. Nate will continue to make strategic moves to get in front of a target deer or kill a whitetail with his recurve.

The Last 7 Days wk3

On this week of The Last 7 Days, Shane Loney joins Nate Rozeveld to recap the 3rd week of Michigan's archery season. Shane's fall started with a hiccup as he had an accident while setting a treestand. After some surgery and having his thumb wrapped and splint he hasn't let that slow him down. Fortunately he is still able to shoot his bow, and has some great friends that have helped him set stands and make strategic moves.

Up until this point of the season both guys talk about their personal experiences with seeing some great deer and having some solid sits that just haven't had the desirable outcomes. Nate feels he was just too passive on a few sits and it cost him an opportunity at a target buck. Shane has been getting some daylight pictures of his target deer, but hasn't found himself quite there yet either.

However both Nate and Shane are eagerly anticipating the upcoming cold front paired with the later part of October. This is when both guys move into targeting specific transition areas next to bedding and feel it's a great opportunity to catch a mature buck on his feet, either in the morning or evening.

HD's Buck

On this episode of Michigan WIld, Nate Rozeveld and his son Henry(HD) sit down and record a great episode recapping HD's buck he got during the youth hunt. HD is 8 years old and really enjoys spending time outside. He has tagged along with Nate at a young age hunting, fishing, food plotting, making mock scrapes, and now hunting himself. Through this episode they talk about everything they accomplished leading up to the hunt, including the food plot prep, sighting in the weapon, all the summer shooting and some expectations.

Overall a fun episode going over HD's second buck harvest and the journey it took to get there. HD is looking forward to opening day of gun season so he can travel up North with the family and hopefully fill a doe tag or two. Nate and Henry both are so happy it worked out and that a successful hunt took place. They both are looking forward to many more hunts together and now it's dad's turn to fill a buck tag!

The Last 7 Days wk2

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate and Brad Speet kick off The Last 7 Days wk2. Brad found himself wrapping his tag around his first public land archery buck. Brad is a part of the Half Ass Hunting podcast and previously joined Michigan Wild talking about salmon fishing earlier this fall. Not only does Brad get after the fish, he also is torn up with whitetail hunting. Recapping the last 7 days of October found both guys having some great hunts, even leading up into the "October Lull". Nate discusses a few of his hunts that have produced some great up and coming bucks, just not the target deer in bow range. Brad was actually able to shoot his buck October 15th and took advantage of being mobilbe, not relying on trail cams, and hunting the sign, not where he felt he had to be.

The way Brad hunted this buck down was inspiring and a great story. From watching the deer get out of his bed and proceed to within bow range was the sum of all the hard work, dedication to learning, and not being afraid to try new tactics. The 2nd week of October is behind us and both guys are looking forward to the next week. Nate is still searching for a deer to target and Brad has a solid play on some deer he has history with. Everyday that ticks by leads to some of the best hunting opportunities for the fall.

I Have a Hard Time Passing a Doe w/ Gideon Montgomery

On this episode of Michigan WIld Nate and Gideon Montgomery have a great conversation focused on chasing whitetails on public land. Gideon has a great story. He didn't grow up in a hunting family, so he cut his teeth learning how to hunt whitetails on public land in Michigan. He was fortunate enough to have a few mentors that pointed him in the right direction and he has continued to put in the time and effort to get better every fall. Gideon enjoys filling the freezer every year and admits that he has a hard time passing a good doe.

Along with starting whitetail hunting he also found himself going out west his second season of hunting. There is a parallel to how Gideon hunts today that reflects the early years of western hunting and his desire to always go on an adventure. Public land has never intimidated him and he knows that effort and desire can lead to more success. Strolling into a piece of public he has never hunted and the adventure that waits is what he seeks each fall.

The Last 7 Days Wk1

On this episode of Michigan Wild we kicked off the series The Last 7 Days Wk1. Robert McIntyre once again joins Nate and they break down their mindsets and each hunt they have been on. Both guys have had an eventual start to their seasons with releasing arrows, so they jump right into breaking down all the action.

Nate's first week has been exciting with its ups and downs. He has seen a target buck along with passing some awesome up and comers. The weather patterns and food sources have led to Nate staying mobile and hunting more mornings than he typically does in early October. Robert along with Nate has been on deer and even bloodied 2 arrows on public land deer. His family does a camp every fall and as a camp they harvested 4 deer. Robert breaks down his kills and the enjoyment he finds experiencing a bow camp every year.

Overall it's been a great start to the season and congrats Robert on your archery kills!

A Decade of The Rise Hunt

He discusses the strategies he employed, the emotional highs and lows of the hunt, and the importance of patience and preparation. Overall Tyler is enjoying the whole process of the fall and what it took for them to get here. The Rise Hunt isn't an overnight sensation and Tyler emphasizes the significance of hard work and dedication in achieving a goal, in the woods and day to day life.

Early Doe Recap

On this episode of Michigan WIld, Nate's riding solo. He is breaking down his early antlerless Michigan hunts. The early antlerless hunt is a 2 day hunt usually around the 3rd weekend of September. This is the 2nd year Nate took part in the hunt and found himself punching 2 tags.

Last fall Nate was able to shoot 1 doe with archery equipment, but this year he decided on breaking in a new rifle and had a desire to shoot more than 1 deer. After doing some research and scouting throughout the summer he understood that he needed to do his part and shoot more does. During this episode Nate breaks down the weapon of choice, the strategies he implied, and the story of his successful morning.

You Shot My Buck

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate Rozeveld and Bryan Myering have a great conversation centered on whitetail hunting and how it takes a community of people to achieve certain goals. Nate and Bryan's friendship stemmed from a big buck that Bryan shot. This was a buck Nate was also hunting and had a history with. Instead of being upset with Bryan or being poor me, Nate decided to reach out and congratulate Bryan. Fast forward to present day, Bryan and Nate share trail cam pics of deer, hunting stories, and successful strategies.

The conversation also delves into habitat management, cooking wild game, and the balance between family life and hunting. Nate and Bryan both find themselves helping coach their kids fall sports teams and discuss the amount of time that requires. Even with limited time in early October both guys are optimistic about finding success. Overall Nate and Bryan want to emphasize the value of open communication among neighbors and the joy of sharing hunting experiences with like minded hunters. It is very fullfilly and helps achieve goals that may have never been achievable.

Big Woods Bucks

He likes finding rublines that lead him to these secluded areas that prove a buck has been and likes to be there. Hunter then proceeds to set up an ambush with a ground blind, a tactic that is successful because there is a lack of suitable trees to hunt out of. This strategy has helped Hunter shoot some awesome bucks the past few years and is something Nate is looking forward to implementing this fall as well.

Locked In

On this episode of the Michigan Wild, Nate and Drew Hassler are LOCKED IN for the upcoming deer season! Drew has been going hard planting plots and executing a multi year plan on his property. Creating better access and establishing a hidden plot has been on the top of his list. A few unique strategies have aided in this new plot, including summer burning and creating a creek crossing. Nate finds himself in a different position with his plots this year as the property's crop rotation has been a limiting factor in 2024. However Drew and Nate discuss doing some micro plots within corn fields and standing bean fields. All with the intentions of capitalizing on shooting a buck in October.

Gear is the next topic of conversation for the guys, and they both are excited for the new things they plan on using this fall including broadheads, arrows, saddles, platforms, and backpacks Each summer Nate and Drew both like to fine tune their setups to help aid in becoming more proficient in mobile hunting on their instate and out of state hunts. Talking about gear got the guys fired up for the fall as October 1st is fast approaching along with their November Kansas hunt. Nate dives into the logistics of the Kansas hunt as he intends to make more than 1 trip, to help scout and get an idea of the terrain. Something he hopes helps him and the group get on deer quicker than past years.

Overall the guys have been preparing all summer for this fall and are locked in and ready to go, plans are being executed and the final steps are taking place. In the next few months Nate and Drew will be ready to capitalize on the salmon run and rutting bucks.

A New Season

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate and Robert discuss their excitement for the upcoming deer hunting season and their strategies for acquiring target deer. This is the 2nd episode of the series A New Season, and the guys couldn't be more fired up for the fall. Episode 2 of the series dives into the current mindset Robert and Nate have preparing for the next few weeks. Which will ultimately shape their fall because this is how they blend last year's hunts, spring scouting, and trail camera date to create a mindset for targeting specific deer and areas. They also discuss the timing of hunting and the need to wait for the right conditions. Both Nate and Robert have identified target deer in Michigan and Ohio and are eager to begin their hunts. Nate discusses his hunting strategy for a specific deer he has history with and the importance of having that historical data. He emphasizes the balance between aggression and patience in hunting. Nate also talks about the logistics of taking time off work and the flexibility he has in his job. He advises younger hunters to plan accordingly and save money for hunting trips. Nate and Rob discuss the importance of safety while hunting and the gear setup they use, including mobile hunting and different arrow setups. Overall in Episode 2 there is high anticipation leading into the next phase of summer. There is an importance of compiling all the knowledge gained up until this point and transitioning that intel into a game plan for the upcoming fall. Look for Episode 3 in the upcoming weeks to dive into specific game plans Nate and Robert have for filling the freezer and punching their tags.

The series is semi-live and produced at a high level. Nick talks about their approach to hunting, the challenges they face, and the growth of their videos over the years. Nate and Nick do discuss their hunting experiences and preferences, particularly in out-of-state hunting. They talk about the importance of being patient and trusting their instincts when hunting, as well as the differences between hunting in Michigan and other states. They also touch on the topic of deer hunting regulations in Michigan, including the youth hunt and the extended urban hunt. They express mixed feelings about the regulations and discuss the need for more doe hunting to address the deer population issue.

Overall a great conversation with Nick, someone who loves chasing whitetails and we look forward to following along with his journey this fall through The Rise Hunt.

Shooting Does is a Commitment

On this episode of Michigan Wild, Elliot Hubbard joins Nate to dive into all things deer hunting in Michigan. Elliot has been an avid Michigan hunter for years and Nate has paid attention to Elliot's posts on Facebook forums and was excited to get him on. Nate's also enjoyed the different perspectives and passion Elliot's shown towards habitat and deer herd improvements.

After getting a backstory on Elliot's upbringing the conversation turns to adequate doe harvest. Nate's curiosity about crop damage permits and how that may pertain to herd health and dynamics was discussed. SInce Elliot has participated in filling multiple crop damage tags over the years he gives some great insight on the challenges that farmers face and the importance of a healthy balance. Discussion about all the crop damage leads the guys into talking about the significance of shooting enough does in Michigan, and how we as hunters are struggling to do what's necessary to help control the population. Nate and Eliiot both agree that we must do our due diligence as hunters and have to improve.

Rounding out the conversation Nate brings up a podcast (Outdoor Drive) that Elliot's wife was a part of. She was a member of the DMI for the lower peninsula and recounts her part of the whole process. Overall it was very concerning how everything transpired and unfortunately this has been a common theme with the NRC.

Coon Hunting Part 1

The Twins

Brandon and Tyler Travis joined Michigan Wild this week. They are the first set of twins to join the podcast and they didn't disappoint. Brandon is a returning guest and along with his brother they both help edit episodes for Vital Shot Productions. Vital Shot is a TV show that is on local TV here in Michigan along with the Pursuit Channel. New episodes start airing the first weekend in July.

The guys start the episode with the backstory of Vital Shot and their roles with the company. However it doesn't take long for the conversation to steer towards all things whitetails. All the guys have experienced a change in the quality of deer hunting in Michigan over the past few years and which has them excited for the next 10 years. The topic of targeting enough does and even changing into a one buck state were covered.

Overall a great conversation with like minded hunters who love pursuing whitetails with their bows. A fun time getting to know the Travis brothers more and look forward to having them on more in the future.

Backstory Of The Bowhunting League

Joining Nate Rozeveld on this week's episode of Michigan Wild is Ben Harrison and Brad Collings from Bowhunting League. The league started in 2015 and continues to grow each year. Ben dives into the backstory of starting the League along with his reasons and passion for the project. Going into the 10th season Ben continues to be innovative with all the sponsors, prizes, and format in order to improve the experience for all the hunters. Brad helps out with the Leagues social media pages, and is a great fit because he is an everyday dad that loves being outside and relates to the majority of hunters. He also has had a team in the Bowhunting League since 2019 so he has experienced all the growth and community the League has to offer.

Wrapping up the conversation Nate is intrigued to hear the story of Ben's 2023 buck he shot. So Ben breaks down his hunt for his biggest whitetail. It was the first time he was able to solely hunt one deer and put all his attention/effort into it. It wasn't for the lack of effort or time on stand that allowed him to connect with his biggest deer.

Cam Carpenter Introduction

Joining Nate Rozeveld this week on MIchigan Wild is Cam Carpenter. Cam is 18 years old and has found a ton of success hunting in his home state of Michigan. Cam has had the opportunity to kill and hunt some giant deer in the mitten state, including a buck in the 180s when he was only 13 years old. Even with tremendous success at a young age Cam has stayed engaged with hunting and his passion for the outdoors is ever present. Something that is refreshing to hear for Nate as he has tried managing getting his son involved in hunting at such a young age as well.

Cam talks about his success and gives all the credit to his father, family friends, and great neighbors. He expresses that he feels the only reason these big deer exist is because so many neighbors are on the same page with trigger control and doe harvest. Nate couldn't agree more because he has seen and witnessed the outcome of passing deer along with neighbors which allows deer in Michigan to reach an older age structure.

The guys also break down Cam's turkey season. He found some success early on in the season, by getting a double with his good buddy. He was also able to chase after turkeys with some close friends that led to missed opportunities and memories that will last forever.

First Turkey and Roll Casting

For this week's episode of Michigan Wild we have returning guest Tony Fellows. Nate and Tony dive into his first turkey kill. Tony was able to connect on his first turkey on his second season chasing them. Even after struggling the first fews weeks of the season Tony remained persistent and kept after them. Tony explains some of the differences between this spring verse last spring and how he enjoyed the process of filling his tag.

After talking about some of the gear used and ways to prepare the wild turkey the guys shift their focus onto fishing. Nate recently acquired a boat and found himself in need of some updated fishing gear, especially a fly rod. Tony and Nate get into a discussion of the different gear and certain combo kits available for people starting out. All things very relatable for people wanting to start fishing or maybe getting back into it like Nate.

Rounding out the episode Tony opens up about his plans to start guiding. Something he has desired to do for quite some time. He really enjoys helping others get into fly fishing and looks forward to getting started later this year.

Nate and Matt start the podcast off with Matt's hunting journey. Matt didn't come from a hunting family so he shares the struggle with self teaching and overcoming some heart aches. As time went on Matt's passion for the outdoors grew and so did his skills of becoming a better hunter.

Nate and Matt have both found success in the turkey woods this spring so they both dive into their hunts, along with the hunt Nate had with his cousin. After their recap of each hunt the conversion transitions into the passion they have chasing rabbits with their beagles. Nate and Matt each have 2 beagles which are both of their first beagles they have raised and hunted with. They dive into their training methods and equipment they use and their overall enjoyment it brings them.

Overall a great episode with 2 like minded people and Nate looks forward to future hunts with Matt.

Killing Hogs Recap

Nate Rozeveld and Rod Rozeveld sit down and discuss Nate's hunt for Wild hogs in Oklahoma on this week's episode of Michigan Wild. Starting the episode off Nate and Rod actually talk about turkey hunting and why it wasn't a priority to hunt Turkeys or a desirable game to pursue. Rod growing up had first hand experience with the negative impact the wild turkey had on the farmers crop and livestock. So to him and local farmers they were a nuisance and not necessary. As time has gone on the population got more in check and seemed to alleviate the stress they put on farmers' fields and danger to their livestock.

Farms and Ranches face similar detrimental issues if they happen to be in an area that has an abundance of wild hogs. Which is exactly where Nate found himself in Oklahoma. He was invited down there by John Hudspeth from the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast and enjoyed his time partaking in killing some hogs and bringing some meat back home.

Jake Hofer joined Nate Rozeveld on Michigan Wild this week. Jake is co-owner of Exodus Outdoor Gear. Exodus is a company that started producing trailcams but has extended into the outdoor space with tailored arrows and other accessories. Jake is also the host of The Land Podcast, a podcast about the pursuit and acquisition of property for recreation and or investment purposes.

Born and raised in Illinois Jake is no stranger to hunting big bucks, however this past fall he had the opportunity to hunt in Iowa. Drawing the coveted archery tag in Iowa for Jake allowed him the ability to schedule time away and focus on hunting down a mature buck with his bow. Fortunately for Jake he not only filled his Iowa tag, he also shot his 1st buck on his own property in Illinois.

The Local Legend or the World's Worst Bowhunter Adam Miller joined Michigan Wild this week. Adam and Nate had a great conversation going over Adam's season, some mobile hunting gear, how the World's Worst Bowhunter came to be and why he insists on hunting with his trad bow for Michigan's gun opener.

Adam did end up finding success this season in Kansas and in typical fashion for Adam it was a rodeo and got a little western. Since Adam is very involved in mobile hunting gear, Nate took the opportunity to ask him for some insight on some products. It's a great time to be in the market for gear because there are a plethora of options out there. Overall a great episode with lots of laughs and funny stories and some flat out bad luck.

Painted Arrow Outdoors

Nate Hicks joined Nate Rozeveld this week on Michigan Wild. Hicks is the owner of Painted Arrow, an outdoor company that has multiple products to offer the self filming bowhunter. The first time Nate Rozeveld saw Painted Arrow was on YouTube. The video was all about a giant Michigan Buck that Hicks targeted and successfully harvested. That year was a pivotal time in Hicks life and totally changed his course along with Painted Arrows.

This episode breaks down that story and the lead up to that hunt. Hicks actually spotted this deer as he was searching for property to buy. After seeing the deer it led to him purchasing the property. Hicks was then able to kill the deer October 1st on a morning hunt the following fall. A really unique story on a great buck!

Jared Vanhees with Habitat Podcast joined Nate this week on Michigan Wild. Jared is also one of the owners of Vitalize seed. Nate used vitalize seed in 3 separate plots this fall and overall has been thoroughly impressed with it. Having Jared on to talk about vitalize and shine some light on the company was something Nate had been looking forward to this off season.

Jared started the Habitat Podcast 6 years ago and has worked hard at helping fellow hunters become better land managers. Jared also offers land consulting and has had the opportunity to walk multiple properties in Michigan, giving him the ability to see where property is lacking. Cover, cover, cover!

The conversation does pivot to the overall health of the whitetail deer herd in Michigan. Especially with the doe problem Michigan faces. They each share some of their opinions on change and the start up of the DMI (Deer Management Initiative).

Overall both guys are concerned with the direction herd management is going and do not want the opportunity to be taken away from hunters.

Tyler Got His Limit! Rabbit Season Update

Tyler Thompson joins Michigan Wild this week right after a successful rabbit hunt with Nate. Nate and Tyler have enjoyed chasing rabbits with their beagles for years. This is Tyler's second time on the podcast as he joined Nate last summer talking all about his back story and passion for small game hunting. That episode's title is Small Game Hunting is Legit if anyone wants more small game content.

In the episode Tyler and Nate talk about their season so far and how each time they have been out has been in completely different conditions. With each condition they have noted how the dogs have worked differently and also have had to pivot in order to get on rabbits. The guys also touch on the different types of terrain they like to focus on and how important it is to go hunt and make it happen some days without having ideal conditions.

Wrapping up the episode Tyler talks about some ways he likes to prepare rabbit meat and his plan for his most recent harvest. Nate also asks about a few pieces of gear Tyler is using this winter in new bibs and a new hoody. Tyler also has been using a piece of gear that isn't in Nate's tool box yet, but will be soon.

RELAUNCH: The Ruth Brothers

It was a great camp and they all three shot bears and have kept in touch since then. Nate dives right in wanting a season update and hearing the story of Treyton's buck. Which leads into the grind of a season Jeremiah had and how he stayed persistent even through harsh conditions.

The Ruth Brothers also make a point of travelling out of state every year and sometimes multiple states. This past year they had successful bear, turkey, elk and pheasant hunts. Throughout the episode they break each hunt down and share the stories of their success.

Over a great episode about family getting outside and sharing their passion for the outdoors. They also encourage people to give it a shot and have realistic expectations when they do go. They started small with Turkey hunts and have been hooked ever since.

Brian feels his arrows stand apart because of the overall system starting with the broadhead and the components. Public Land Success

This episode of Michigan Wild is with returning guest Drew Hasler. He had quite the season and had a few major updates since the last episode he was on. Drew ended up killing his first out of state public land buck this fall. His success stemmed from spending time scouting before the hunt and relying on past experiences to pick the right tree. Drew also had the mindset of not leaving deer to find new deer and was rewarded after his second sit in this particular area.

For another first this past fall Drew was able to harvest his first big woods buck. This property is a place he has camp every year with a group of friends. It's usually very tough hunting with minimal buck sightings. However after some timber harvest and mild weather Drew was surprised to find a buck on the typical bed to feed pattern. Drew set forth and executed a plan on the last day of his hunt.

Season Recap w/ Eric Mckay

First Episode of Michigan Wild for 2024 is with Eric Mckay. Eric Mckay joins Nate this week recapping his 2023 fall. Eric had a stellar fall, he was able to shoot a bull elk and harvest 4 whitetail bucks between Michigan and Illinois. Eric has chased whitetails in Michigan for almost 25 years and has headed west for 12 seasons, so this fall reflected years of hard work and determination. He has learned how to strike when the time is right and stay persistent throughout the fall. He discusses some of his insights he has learned over the years that has led to having better hunts and ultimately more success. He no longer just volume hunts and isn't afraid to be mobile and try new things every year.

Even with a stellar fall it came with its fair share of adversity which Eric didn't shy away from. Having a few arrow deflections and wounding deer was something Eric used as fuel to tweak a few things in his craft. Something that Nate also can relate to and along with Eric hopes encourages fellow hunters to keep working through the adversity.

This fall he had a successful doe hunt. To Nate it was a Trophy Doe hunt because of the memory Rob was able to share with his son along with the epic recovery. Rob and Nate both talk about the importance of doe harvest and how they have seen the fruit of a healthy deer herd with a balanced buck to doe ratio.

Rob has immersed himself in the outdoors, making it a lifestyle for him and his family over the years. He has enjoyed getting his kids involved and always making time for them. Nate and Rob also talk about the successful hunts Rob's 12 year old son Shane has had the last 2 falls. They both agree seeing their kids enjoy the outdoors is special and are thankful for the life they live.

He discusses how it was a right of passage when he finally was able to go hunting, and how he felt a part of something bigger.

Fast forward to present day Rod and Nate are able to reflect on the major differences in Michigan hunting. They both have first hand experience with hunting a more balanced deer herd along with seeing a higher class of bucks to chase each fall in the mitten. Something they both feel is important in helping sustain quality hunting opportunities for many generations.

High hunter numbers along with a skewed buck to do harvest are some of the glaring differences Michigan hunters face.

Overall Nate is excited for the future of hunting in Michigan as he has experienced a change first hand. He encourages hunters to keep striving to get better for the future and never stop learning.

HD's First Buck

Nate and his son Henry sit down on this Episode of Michigan Wild and talk about Henry's first buck. Henry is 7 years old and has been tagging along with Nate for years. Henry has always enjoyed helping with food plots and looking for sheds, so he has been no stranger to the hunting lifestyle. This spring going into summer Henry showed a desire for shooting his first buck. After getting comfortable shooting a firearm and feeling confident in himself Nate agreed he was ready to go hunting.

November 15th was Henry's first sit and he was faced with adversity right away. He had an opportunity on a buck, but unfortunately his shot was low and ended up wounding the deer. However Henry remained positive and stayed hunting. A few days later the buck did show back up on camera which confirmed that it wasn't a fatal hit. Then on Thanksgiving day all the hours on stand and patience paid off for Henry.

Fishing in November?

Last episode of November on Michigan Wild this week. An episode all about fishing rivers for steelhead with Shane Rodenburg. Shane has dove into river fishing the last 4 years and is absolutely torn up with it. Nate being an avid hunter is still slightly perplexed why someone would purposely target fish instead of whitetails this time of year.

However the more time Nate spends talking with people who have a passion for fishing the more enlightened he gets. Nate and Shane discuss the many parallels there are between chasing river fish along with whitetails throughout the fall. Scouting and having an adequate amount of time are some important factors that allow guys to be successful at a high level.

Brandon eventually settles on an awesome rut funnel that the deer were using and he had the stereo typical rut hunts that every bowhunter dreams about. Paired with the determination to sit all day and go to an area that the deer wanted to be in eventually led to success on the last day of his hunt.

Throughout the episode Dan walks us through his season including some failures and learning experiences taking a compound into the woods. All the experiences eventually helped him have the confidence to make the shot October 30th. A crazy hunt that lived up to the expectations of the pre rut!

This week's episode of Michigan Wild is all about Nate's October buck! Drew Hasler and Mason Houston once again join and they hear the story for the first time as well. Nate goes through the full breakdown of the hunt and hits on some key topics he felt led to his success. Being mobile, having great access, sticking to a plan, and having history with a property helped him kill the 7pt.

The 7pt is a deer Nate has had history with since 2019 and he has hunted this deer more than any other deer. With minimal sightings and no trail cam pics for 2 years he didn't even believe he actually shot the 7pt. After digging through years of trail cam pics there were a few characteristics that makes him believe he did finally shoot the 7pt at 7.5 years old.

The guys end the podcast discussing their plans for Illinois bow camp and they look forward to recording a few podcasts for all the listeners to follow along on their first year down there.

Returning guest Shane Loney joins Michigan WIld to recap the last 7 days of bowhunting with Nate. Shane does give a quick recap of his season so far which consisted of passing a couple 3.5 year old deer along with some tough hunts. Shane is targeting 3 separate bucks, but this last week he struggled getting on them. He shares a few observations with why he has struggled and the direction he plans on going for the upcoming week. Shane did have 2 successful doe kills already this fall and broke down each hunt. Nate then shares how the week started in a similar fashion for him and how he quickly adjusted. That adjustment paid off when he ended up killing a buck October 22, 2023.

Tony Hill with Find it Fred joins Michigan Wild this week. In this episode Nate and Tony get into some hound talk, which includes chasing bears and tracking whitetails. Tony grew up in a family of hunters and was always outdoors at a young age. He tagged along with his older brothers and dad chasing rabbits with his beagles and whitetails up north at their deer camp. About 5 years ago Tony decided to get into deer tracking and then soon after he got more hounds for chasing bears, coons, and coyotes.

Through this episode the guys cover hunting bears with Tony's dogs and all the dedication it takes to have a successful pack. It's a challenge Tony loves and the reward of seeing a bear in a tree and his dog's work is worth the effort. Nate and Tony finish the podcast talking about deer tracking with his hound Fred. Nate has first hand experience seeing Fred work and really appreciates having Tony as a reliable resource to help recover deer.

Overall a great episode between buddies who both have a passion for whitetails and watching their dogs work in the field.

Nate's week was very eventful and he had some great hunts. He saw 2 target bucks enter one of his food plots on a hang and hunt Thursday night. Nate dives into the hunt he had that evening and why he felt Thursday was the night. Unfortunately it ended with an epic fail... a swing and a miss.

River Fishing with Tony Fellows

Tony Fellows hopped on Michigan Wild this week to share his experience river fishing. Tony's first memory of fishing was heading to the river with his dad where they targeted trout. Unlike Nate who grew up pond and small lake fishing and has very limited river fishing experience.

Through this episode Nate and Tony go over some of the basics of river fishing, including what to look for and tactics to use for certain fish. Fly fishing is really where Tony has settled over the years and shares different technics he uses throughout the year. Tony also goes into more detail of how he breaks down a river and how to do some river scouting. Which Nate realizes has similarities to breaking down a property for whitetails or other game animals.

Nate and his wife Ashley really hope to join Tony on a river this fall, and look forward to the adventure and the learning experience.

A tool that has been key to increasing his habitat and deer quality for years as well. Lincoln gives a good breakdown of all the different products at Packer Maxx and the uses for them. He also owns Five 2 Outdoors, a food plot seed company. So his local shop in West Michigan is really a one stop shop for all food plot needs. Nate explains how he has been there and finds great value in the opportunity to see and feel a product before purchasing. Colt breaks down his approach in a few different ways depending on the species he fishes and location. Colt has also hunted whitetails at a high level and they discuss the parallels with getting on big fish and big whitetails.

Brain Surgery to First Buck

This weeks episode on Michigan Wild is with AJ Norman. AJ and Nate are brother in laws and have always enjoyed the outdoors together. Their conversation starts with how AJ got involved/tagged along with Nate at an early age, and how that developed into him wanting to start gun hunting himself. AJ from the start was determined to hold out for a specific type of first buck, and even dreamed of it at a young age. As the conversation progresses Nate and AJ talk about some of the difficult circumstances he has faced growing up. As AJ went through these he latched on to shooting his bow and found comfort shooting and bowhunting.

The journey to AJ’s first buck wasn’t easy and he faced a lot of adversity, however last fall it all came together and made the journey totally worth it. Nate and AJ look forward to more conversations leading into the fall as they find target bucks and continue to learn new properties.

Rabbit Hunting is Legit

Small game hunting has been a passion for Tyler Thompson his whole life. On this episode of Michigan Wild, Nate and Tyler discuss that passion, along with how Tyler helped Nate get rejuvenated hunting small game. For years they have really enjoyed running rabbits with their beagles from January 1st into late March. This conversation goes into detail for finding the right terrain, which includes how to use digital and in season scouting. They also break down how access is gained on private ground and the effort it takes. Then a small deep dive into some gear they use, and what it takes to get started.

Overall Nate and Tyler love small game hunting and encourage people to get outside and enjoy it themselves. Nate also looks forward to Tyler's journey this fall as he wants to get more serious about bowhunting whitetails.

Early Season Recap

This week on the Michigan Wild Podcast, Marcus is riding solo to recap his early season whitetail hunts. He talks about the property that he is hunting, how long he's been hunting it and what his first two sits have yielded. Marcus gives a brief history on his success on the property in previous years along with some moves he's made this year that he doesn't typically condone. The early season can be some of the best times to hunt during the year if you're lucky enough to still catch deer in some summer patterns, or it can just be the early stages of a long drawn out season. Either way, getting back into the woods is always a good thing and continuing to increase your knowledge of whitetail and their movements helps. There's a lot of season ahead, so keep grinding wherever you're at!
