Kinda Christian

Have you ever wanted to sit down with a top biblical scholar and ask them if there are errors in the Bible? We did. Kinda Christian features the top thinkers and leaders from all across the faith spectrum to wrestle through the tough questions of religion.

At Kinda Christian the truth is what we are after. All views are welcome. All views are challenged. Kinda Christian digs into discrepancies in the gospels, the problem of suffering, eyewitnesses to medical miracles, and much more.

Let's be honest, faith can be confusing. To some, the Bible appears to be a collection of myths, written down over thousands of years that offer the occasional moral nugget. To others it an absolute supernatural reality with thousands of testimonies of miracles and divine encounters. And making matters even more confusing, many groups disagree on some key doctrines. So how do we know the truth? We go out and find it. Join us as we sit down for some incredible conversations with some really smart people.

Miracles in Mozambique: A Conversation With Will Hart

Warning: some of this content is a bit tough to hear, so listener discretion is advised.

Sometimes you have a guest on that simply blows your mind. Will Hart has been on the front line serving people in some of the most difficult and war torn areas in the world. As the president of Iris Global, Will is on a mission to serve, bring God's love to the people of Mozambique and usher in change. Will also has seen a thing or two. A miraculous thing or two. He is the first guest I have had on the program that will look you in the virtual eye and share that he has seen multiplication of food, healing of the blind and deaf and cars that run on empty for an entire day. Things that defy explanation. Take a listen and you decide what is actually going on.

</itunes:summary>

      <itunes:summary>We are back for 2021!!

Have you ever wondered how one becomes a Saint in the Catholic Church? Did you know that there is an entire office, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, that investigates miraculous occurrences for this exact process? In fact the term "Devils Advocate" was derived from this very process. Far from just taking it on "faith", the Church rigorously investigates these alleged miracles and the individuals involved. We are talking medical records, interviews and exact times and places. In fact most so called "miracles" are dismissed. The process is absolutely fascinating and according to Msgr. Robert Sarno, a man who has worked with this process for almost four decades, miracles are absolutely real. This episode of Kinda Christian is Kinda Awesome. </itunes:summary>

Rediscovering the Spiritual Realm with Dr. Michael Heiser

03:11 – 05:09 Summing up what the old Testament is, what it entails for the nature of man's relationship with God, and how God is always in pursuit of man despite our constant failures and imperfect nature.

09:38 – 11:37 Dr. Heiser explains why some stories of the Old Testament are similar to legends of the civilizations surrounding Israel, and how even though they use similar language... they are not the same, nor were they copied from one another.

13:42 – 15:41 A prelude to an amazing conversation about Psalm:82 and the modern dismissal of the spiritual beings that make up the other side of God's creation.

20:26 – 22:25 Dr. Heiser gives a scathing condemnation of modern commentary and terminology as it is applied to the concept of theism to the ancient Jews. He provides a both serious and witty argument for why you can't apply modern sensibilities and language when trying to interpret the word of the Old Testament.

26:08 – 28:07 Dr. Heiser gives a great summary of the story of Ahab and Jehoshaphat and provides insight as to how the spiritual council of God operates.

31:54 – 33:53A perspective many watching may find to be new is provided by Dr. Heiser as he explains two instances of God instructing figures in the Old Testament to be either deceptive or to withhold the whole truth in order to thwart evildoers. Goes to show that God knows how to get things done.

36:41 – 37:52Dr. Heiser explains that God has given us guidelines on how to deal with evil. I hear a lot of people called to a lot of things that they seem uniquely unequipped for. And yet, if the Christian narrative is true, then calling certainly exists. But what is it? How do we know what it is?

The question of what to do with your life is a profound, complicated and relatively recent one. For most of history you simply did what your parents did- which was probably farming. In today's society however, many people have a choice. And that choice can be paralyzing. If you try and integrate a faith component it can get even more stressful. Does God pick out a calling? Do you pick a calling? Is it both? On today's episode of Kinda Christian we wrestle through these questions with pastor and thought leader Hunter Beaumont who shares his process for discerning what career path to follow. </itunes:summary>

What do we get wrong about Jesus? Apparently quite a bit. Professor Tommy Givens joins the program and lays out a compelling case for why we may have a very different perception of Christ, one that is not rooted in reality. As a respected "Mathian" scholar, Tommy knows the Gospel of Matthew inside and out. He shares some profound insights about the gospels, what we might have missed underneath the text, and a vulnerable account of his own journey of faith.

Of course we get into Harry Potter as well. </itunes:summary>

10 Minute Testimony: The Four Leaf Clover

At Kinda Christian we recognize that academic questions can only take you so far on the journey- you have to actually experience what you believe to make it real. For millions of people around the world it is their own profound and impactful testimonies that keep them pursuing belief in God- not the commentary in the margins of their study bible.

Over the years I have asked people I know and respect, to share with me stories of times they felt like God was real, or answered a crazy prayer. Some of the stories defy logic and odds for sure, but the fact is there are just too many of them, many very similar, to be all fabrication. I don't know how it works or what is going on, but there is something bigger than us happening as you can see with many of these.

Since it is 2020 and we all need a little uplifting, here is a ten minute testimony of a girl, a four leaf clover and a prayer.

Not only is the evidence there, it's for all to see. <itunes:summary>Do you ever wonder just how we know what the Gospels say happened actually did? It’s not talked about at church often but the gospels do contain some discrepancies about certain genealogies, names and events. For any other historical book these differences are probably insignificant, but when you base your life on a book you want to know what you’re reading is true. The four gospel authors agree on much, but what are we to make of the places where they seem to differ? We ask Dr. Craig Keener, one of the leading new testament scholars today to explain exactly just what we are supposed to make of all of it. </itunes:summary>
