a conversation with PENNYWILD

A conversation with PENNYWILD (aka Melanie Wildman) about forging your own path and not accepting someone else's limits. She's a DJ, choreographer, dancer and very dope human who's made a name for herself in LA after moving there with no connections or prospects. Her story is one of individuality, perseverance and generosity. She is kind, she is smart, and she is ridiculously talented and hearing her speak on her experience will make you reflect on what passions you could be pursuing.

<itunes:summary>A conversation with PENNYWILD (aka Melanie Wildman) about forging your own path and not accepting someone else's limits. </itunes:summary>

Kicking off 2019 with something different. A special new year song - just for you.

Lyrics:
It’s a new year
and before we start
I’d like to say a couple things about the hardest part

(of starting) a new year
is that I feel fear
for what’s ahead I do not know at least the path I’m on is my own

(starting this) new year
singing this song right here
today is January 1
and I commit to having fun

(in this) New year
I want to change the gear
To talkin bout what you can do if you wanna reconnect with you

(in this) new year
start up by slow-in-down
its just so easy to get lost when stuck spinning round and round

(yeah it’s a) new year
but it’s the same you -
can decide if you are primed to break into something new

(in this) new year
take some time for yourself
if you can’t love what in the mirror how you goin love anybody else

(in this) new year
there is no set divide
we all have won the human race by just being alive

(I hope this) new year
brings many lessons learned
I don’t regret where have been because it all happened to serve us

(in this) new year
I think I’ll end this now
Yes we have gone on long enough and you already know this stuff

so happy new year
and if you’re still here
I want you to know that I’m grateful for you
it’s true.

the December Detox

The last episode of 2018! I'm taking December to detox from all things social media - the podcast included. I think it's vital that we take breaks and reconnect with our short and long term intentions. December is the perfect time to regroup and reflect on how you've grown in the last 12 months and what areas of your life you want to focus more energy on. I'm excited to to hold a mirror up to my own experiences in an effort to enter 2019 feeling more clear and more grounded. I'll be back in the New Year with new episodes, new shapes, and new ideas.

a conversation inspired by "An Audience of One" by Srinivas Rao with Peter Scattini

After hearing Srivinas Rao on Chase Jarvis' podcast - I decided that I needed to read his book, "An Audience of One: Reclaiming Creativity for Its Own Sake". Based on conversation we'd had, I knew it would resonate with my friend Peter Scattini as much as it would for me. I proposed that we read the book and then sit down on the podcast to discuss - what transpired was a three hour deep dive inspired by the ideas in Rao's book. This is that conversation.

This episode is being released in tandem with a guided meditation led by Brittany, which is inspired by her recent trip to India where she received her meditation teacher certification.
Aside from being a dear friend of mine, Jane is the founder and creator of Fit For Broadway. A health, wellness and lifestyle brand that celebrates Broadway with a focus on living an intentional and fulfilling life. She inspired me to reexamine what physical health means to me and I wanted to sit down and find out more about how FFB came to be and her philosophy on health and overall well-being. In addition to a remarkable story, Jane breaks down small and easy ways to incorporate fitness into your life.

This is an experiment and exercise in self-reflection. I asked a few friends to leave voicemails for their younger selves. This episode features voicemails from Alexis Scheer, Michael Breen, and Melissa Rose Hirsch. I was so moved by what they shared, I've decided to open this up to anyone and everyone. If you feel so inclined, you can call 774-728-2288 or email a voice memo to mattrodinradio@gmail.com, and maybe in the coming weeks I'll share more.

a conversation with Felicia Fitzpatrick

A conversation with Felicia Fitzpatrick about managing social media for one of the biggest theater brands in the world - Playbill. The struggles and triumphs of starting a podcast, rediscovering vulnerability and what it means to be a 20-something in New York City. Felicia is someone who I always find myself having in-depth conversations with and we've known each other since the very beginning of both of our careers. She is intelligent, insightful, fun and just a kind soul. You can find her podcast, CALL AND RESPONSE, on iTunes and on social media.

This episode was recorded at The Artits Co-Op - a co-working space for artists in midtown Manhattan.

Use this to remind yourself. Use this to slow down. Use this to check in. Use this to check out. This is just for you.

it’s hard to find the words to say
the ones that will make you remember who, where, how, why, and what you are
that’s what this is
a reminder
that no matter what’s happening today or what happened yesterday or what you think will happen tomorrow
the only thing you need to do right now is just be here, in this moment

the present is always available to you
and your ticket back to here is your breath

it’s an anchor you can drop at anytime
if you can notice your breath, you don’t have to change it, just lend it some attention - that moment of quiet is pure nowness

instead of TRYING to calm down, can you just allow yourself to breath like your body knows how to

relaxation is not reserved for vacation or sleep or sitting on the couch watching Netflix - you can feel ease in anything and everything you do

by practicing awareness you’re giving your mind a break from all that noise - the worry the jealously the negative fear-based thoughts that wear on your spirit

that quiet place where your breath brings you back to - is love - and a return to love is a return to you

you are love. you are worthy of love and you are deserving of love simply because you are human.

you are human. you are going to fuck it up - you probably already have. but every experience is a learning opportunity. it’s growth that’s inching you closer to your truth. pain + reflection = progress and in those moments that feel like the ground is falling out from under you, remember that you have your breath and you can have gratitude.

and when you choose gratitude, you are choosing love, you are choosing you.

life is an illusion created by your perception - and it can be changed if you choose to change it - your entire experience in this time and this place is determined by how you choose to perceive your reality.

so if you can choose love over fear, and you CAN choose love over fear - you will find your life expanding in ways you could never have imagined

you can chose, right now, to just breathe. you can feel the air hitting your nostrils on the way in. you can notice what part of your body is expanding with each inhalation.

each of these small, easy check-ins are always available to you. just as love is always within you. and no matter where you go or what you do, you are always somewhere on the path back to love - right where you’re supposed to be.

this moment right now is just for you

a conversation with Sean Grandillo

A conversation with Sean Grandillo about the pressures of social media for artists, imposter syndrome, emo years, growing up, and sharing work without expectations. Earlier this summer, Sean released two original songs and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to sit down and talk about building a creative life and navigating a career in the entertainment industry. His experiences in television and on Broadway have given him a unique perspective that allows him to understand the long-game in a way not many 20-somethings do. Beyond that, he's grounded and genuine and a joy to spend time with.

This podcast serves as a space to share audio content that will hopefully inspire listeners to journey inward so that the things we do, say, and make are connected to who we truly are. Everything I do is in effort to tap into people's light. We're just getting started.
