Comedy: 2020 Election Results On Hysterically Long Flight

Lauren Taylor Late Show : Climeconomy Comedy

This episode, which was produced over the course of the 20 day election results process, focuses on capturing a moment in time during one of the most stressful elections in our history. In order to make progress on climate change, it is imperative that Trump not have won the election. This sketch comedy aims to cover the high stakes emotion of the experience and was done to create a reminder that we never forget how fragile our democracy is. Half the country remains divided and this fundamentally has to shift in order for us to tackle the biggest existential threat we will face in our lifetimes.

The primary skit in the episode is the plane flight, but the main concept of the show and the goals of this entire podcast is best exemplified by the beat poem presented at a smoky jazz club in the beginning of the episode.

The Beat Poem by Lauren Taylor

Title: Why Climate Doesn't Have To Make Us Die

We cover climate change and comedy

When change is an anomaly

We seek to find solutions

from trickle down economy

Innovation can you save us from

this existential threat

We don’t need to have a planet

So hot it makes us sweat

You see Climonomics is our solution

Not just to reuse waste and curb pollution

But to baseline capitalistic means of distribution

So that all climate impacts are equal for every woman and every man

So that all may have access to living wage jobs

And the means to implement an evacuation plan

Climate change will cost us billions

From storm aftermath to infrastructure devastation

And we’re exhausted by McConnell’s block of all our legistlation

For decades they’ve used the term socialism back on us as a tool

To block our agenda to make the climate cool

We need new terminology to fight with a cohesive plan

Instead of letting them win using words they don’t even understand

So let me spell it out, it’s plain and super clean

Climacapitalism is a solution we can use

To make this planet green

It’s based on market freedom, that republicans can back

but adds a baseline living standard that can strengthen us against climate change attack

Climajobs can be the solution to raise our status quo

A solution to dying industries it’s time to let them go

But democrats truly need to focus incentives to bring jobs to these towns

It can’t be all talk as their cities burn down

We must put pressure on our businesses to make it here at home

To make products biodegradable instead of plastic and of foam

We need to convince farmers to go regenerative with their land

This can put C02 biosequestration IS THE PLAN

We have so many solutions already at our hand

The only thing we are missing is the implementation of unified plan

It can’t have a name that is already a loaded gun

If we don’t change our course they have already won

We need to spread the gospel of the green new deal

But it needs a new name that doesn’t make republicans squeal

It needs to be built on words holding far less contention

Like a stronger new American Jobs Plan where the words themselves offer infallible invention

Let us fight together to make a change in this nation

To be a leaders in this world for climate change innovation

If you can change one mind with your story that’s the solution

It’s how we can start now a Mother Earth revolution

The last part of the show covers the three pillars of climate change solutions. <itunes:summary>Comedy: In this episode, Lauren Taylor does a series of funny sketch comedies during the historic month of our 2020 election. In addition to a number of funny fake commercials, she covers the election as one of her characters stewardess Suzie Sitdafunkdown who reports the news of the election results as it comes in, all while having to manage a plane full of emotional Trump and Biden supporters.
The story ends with Suzie stressfully pouring herself glasses of booze while trying to deal with everyone fighting on board, all while trying to land the flight in a Walmart parking lot because the Captain got into the fight that broke out due to a Coronavirus toilet paper shortage on the plane.
