Hockey & Hounds - Meet Milo

Jason Myrtetus and John Tortorella get together to discuss this section of the season, where it lands in the grand scheme of the organization's plans and what the rest of the season holds.

This week we meet Milo, who is a survivor of abuse who's gotten better and is now available for adoption from the PSPCA. Milo has three legs but his energy doesn't reflect that at all. He is a loving and playful pup with a zest for life. Despite everything that has happened to him, and that he is living life on three legs, he is just about the happiest guy around. He is open to meeting other dogs and dog-savvy kids too!

Approximate age: 3 ½ years old
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Weight: “medium” (40-50 lbs)

Hockey & Hounds - Another Visit from Frog

Brian Smith sits in for Jason Myrtetus this week on Hockey & Hounds and takes the opportunity to chat with head coach John Tortorella about what it's like on the back of the Flyers bench during games. We touch on his involvement with his assistant coaches, the team's video coaches, and the support staff. Later, we'll discuss the team's current situation and why it's leading to brighter days ahead.

This week PAWS has asked us to re-visit Frog once again! Frog is around 10 years old and arrived to Philly PAWS last spring because his beloved owner passed away. He was so deeply loved by his owner and we are hoping to find someone who will adore this senior pup the same way. Frog has lived with a relaxed dog and cat in the past, so we think he could do so again with proper introduction. Being a 10 year old pup, Frog would love to live in a home without a lot of stairs for him to climb. He does have some arthritis in his legs, but you would never know it with the way he loves to chase a squeaky toy.

Hockey & Hounds - Meet King Silly

Jason Myrtetus and John Tortorella recap the Four Nations Tournament and take a look at the Flyers' first two games back from the break, including several of the hot hands as of late.

This week we meet King Silly, an 11 month old mixed breed pup with Philly PAWS who is full of joy and happiness! He absolutely loves to play and would do well in a home with someone who is eager to help him learn some tricks and understands that puppies have puppy energy! He’s very friendly with strangers and, while he may bark at unfamiliar people at first, it’s usually just his way of inviting them to play. King is still young and curious, which means he might get into a little mischief now and then. Because of this, he’ll need a foster/adopter who can keep an eye on him and provide gentle guidance as he settles in. In his previous home, he was comfortable around children and handled interactions well. He’d thrive in a foster home that can offer him attention, structure, and a comfy lap to relax in while he waits for his forever family.

Hockey & Hounds - Meet Tiberius

John Tortorella joins Jason Myrtetus from Montreal, where he's preparing for the Four Nations Tournament as an assistant coach with Team USA. They discuss the events leading up to the tournament, including Guy Gaudreau joining as a special guest coach, as well as the USA roster and what it was like watching the Eagles win the Super Bowl.

This week we feature Tiberius, a special senior pit bull mix looking for his forever home at the PSPCA. Tiberius is blind and was found wandering the streets of Germantown, where he was picked up and put into the PSPCA's care. Tiberius needed some emergency medical treatment to address bladder stones and an infection, but that's behind him now and he is recovering. Tiberius is a sweet, blind pup with a big personality, a sweet, gentle soul and a lot of heart. The PSPCA veterinary staff calls him “the perfect angel baby,” and every day, they see his kind heart shining through. Despite his lack of sight, he quickly picks up on new routines and enjoys interacting with people. He thrives on verbal cues and is learning how to navigate the world in his own way. But no dog should spend their senior years in a shelter, and Tiberius deserves more than this. He deserves a safe home, full of love and peace, where he can live out his days surrounded by the care he’s always needed. His journey hasn’t been easy. He’s blind, lost, and facing the twilight of his life without the comfort of a family to call his own. But together, we can change that.

Hockey & Hounds - Revisiting Frog

Jason Myrtetus chatted with head coach John Tortorella the day before the final game before the Four Nations break against Pittsburgh. They talked about the aftereffects of the Morgan Frost/Joel Farabee trade, the recent play of Sam Ersson and the upcoming break.

This week PAWS has asked us to re-visit Frog!

Hockey & Hounds - Meet Phil Again

In a special episode of Hockey & Hounds, we meet Anthony Rothman of 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, OH, who started the original Hockey & Hounds show with John Tortorella in 2016. The two met up ahead of the December 10 game against the Blue Jackets and joined Jason Myrtetus via teleconference. They discuss the origins and history of Hockey & Hounds and its impact on the Columbus community, as well as offering some suggestions and tips for potential adopters. Jason and Torts also discuss the team's recent run leading into the Columbus game.

This week's scheduled dog was adopted before we could even feature him, so we're revisiting Phil in case you missed him during the bustle of Thanksgiving week. Phil is a mixed-breed brindle found as a stray that is in a PAWS foster home. He has the goofy exuberance of a puppy who thinks life is one big party. Phil gets along well with other dogs, and enjoys playtime and couch cuddles with equal enthusiasm. He'd especially benefit from a yard to romp around in since he's a strong boy on leash, but he means well and will be thrilled to join you for any outdoor activity (or any activity really, he's just happy to be here)!

<itunes:summary>In a special episode of Hockey & Hounds, we meet Anthony Rothman of 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, OH, who started the original Hockey & Hounds show with John Tortorella in 2016.

Hockey & Hounds - Meet Max

Jason Myrtetus returns to Hockey & Hounds this week with Flyers head coach John Tortorella. They discuss the team's recent quality run of form and the individual efforts that have gone into it, as well as comparing where things are now with the organization's position when Torts arrived in 2022.

This week we meet Max, a mixed-breed pittie/bulldog who has been looking for a home since about the same time Torts arrived in Philadelphia - since August of 2022. Max is a sweet and playful pup who loves nothing more than snuggling up with his favorite stuffy toys. He has a special fondness for them and his tail will wag excitedly whenever he sees one. Despite his goofy nature, Max is a quick learner and is working on a training plan with his friends to become the best version of himself. Max has a big smile and a bigger heart and we know his perfect fit is out there.

Meet Johnny Cash: Hockey & Hounds

Jason Myrtetus chats with Flyers head coach John Tortorella about some of the guys making an impact on the Flyers roster this season, as well as a review of the team's recent Mom's Trip where several of the players' mothers accompanied the team to Boston.

This week, we walk the line with Johnny Cash, a one-year-old mixed breed pup currently in foster care with PAWS. Johnny Cash is gentle soul with sweet introverted qualities who takes time and patience to warm up to new people, but once he does he's very eager to please his humans. A low-pace pup who isn’t very outdoorsy, he would be great for someone looking for a companion around the house who isn’t necessarily looking for a dog that needs a lot of exercise or outdoor play time.

The goaltending situation is affected by injuries, giving the coaching staff a look at Ivan Fedotov, who picked up his first NHL win in Tampa.

This week, we're looking for a home for Ang, an 11-month-old sweetheart who has had a rough start in life. Ang was found on the street in the city by a Good Samaritan with two stab wounds. He was rushed to PSPCA and then to emergency surgery, but is now recovering well. Ang is a loving and resilient pup searching for his forever home! He’s through the worst of his battle and he's ready to find a special family that will shower him with love and care. With a few battle scars that only add to his unique charm, Ang is full of puppy energy and adores being around people. Whether it's going for walks, playing in the yard, or snuggling on the couch, Ang is always ready for some fun!

Some dogs really struggle in a kennel environment and Ang is certainly one of them. We are hoping to get this guy into an adoptive or foster home as soon as possible.

Another season of Hockey & Hounds returns with John Tortorella and Jason Myrtetus. In the season premiere episode, the duo recaps Training Camp and discuss the excitement for the 2024-25 campaign.

This episode, we're finding Missy a new home. Missy is a very social, if lazy, pup. She is very often loose and waggy with soft eyes, but can also be aloof and independent. Missy arrived with matted, dirty fur, so she got a fresh cut. Her hair will grow back, and we cannot wait to see her glow up. She may have had a hard start in life, but she is ready to shine!

Meet Kculli: Hockey & Hounds with John Tortorella

Jason Myrtetus concludes the 2023-24 Hockey & Hounds season with Flyers head coach John Tortorella as they discuss the upcoming do-or-die end of the regular season. We also meet Kculli, a survivor of a dogfighting ring who was rescued by the PSPCA in November of 2021 along with 32 other dogs. The majority of these pups have found homes, but Kculli and three other are still waiting. There is nothing wrong with this sweet girl, despite her horrific past. She is a bit shy at first, but she opens up quickly and just LOVES people. She can live with kids, but not other animals.

Meet Harriett III - Hockey & Hounds with John Tortorella

Jason Myrtetus is joined by Flyers head coach John Tortorella to discuss the team's current situation as they fight for a playoff spot. We also revisit Harriett, a previously featured Hockey & Hounds star still searching for a home. Harriet is the most playful and snuggly girl of your dreams. One of her previous foster parents coined the nickname "Miss Rolly-Polly" for her because after a few moments of pets or scratches she'll lean all ~50+ lbs of her body weight into your legs before flopping onto the floor, with her legs fully splayed into the air and all.

She is very affectionate to handlers especially when they follow her training plan. Dakota is looking for a home that will continue her training and learning. She is open to dog meets.
Meet Luke Wilson: Hockey & Hounds

On the latest Hockey and Hounds Podcast, Torts and Jason discuss the commencement of the April playoff push and are trying to find 'Luke Wilson' a forever home. Luke is an incredibly sweet, and cuddly pal. Understandably, he's been a little cautious and nervous, but as he's opened up his more goofy, and spontaneous side has emerged and we are just loving his zest for life! He even tends to nudge, rub or plop his cute snoot on you to initiate snuggles. Luke is also very sniff-oriented so he'd love to find companion(s) that like to venture into nature so he can enjoy all the interesting smells the world has to offer! He knows the commands "sit" and "stay", but is very eager to please his humans and would be able to pick up more tricks with continued training.

If you're interested in a spunky and affectionate companion, Luke Wilson just might be your perfect match! Visit PhillyPaws.org for more information.

<itunes:summary>On the latest Hockey and Hounds Podcast, Torts and Jason discuss the commencement of the April playoff push and are trying to find 'Luke Wilson' a forever home.

Visit PhillyPaws.org for more information.</itunes:summary>

Torts and Jason are back together and discussing the March gauntlet of games ahead, post-trade deadline and are finding Harriet a forever home. Harriet is the most playful and snuggly girl of your dreams. One of her previous foster parents coined the nickname "Miss Rolly-Polly" for her because after a few moments
of pets or scratches she'll lean all 50lbs. of her body weight into your legs before flopping onto the floor. We think Harriet would prefer a home without a cat friend, but could do well with another playful dog in the home! Any adopter with resident pups that have a zest for life and passion for playtime could definitely be a great match for her. Learn more about Harriet at phillypaws.org/adopt!

Every week throughout the season, Coach Tortorella will join Flyers Broadcast Network host Jason Myrtetus for the Hockey & Hounds Podcast, discussing not only Flyers hockey but also his passion for animal welfare. This week we're finding Max a forever home. Max is a 3-year-old German Shepherd. He was rescued in October by our animal law enforcement team along with 5 other dogs who have been adopted. Max is a very smart and affectionate dog. He can be a little nervous at times but loves his handlers. He's a big guy who is very affiliative with people and is open to meeting kids who can respect his size and strength. He's open to meeting other dogs and would probably prefer a low key dog. Learn more about Max at pspca.org!

Every week throughout the season, Coach Tortorella will join Flyers Broadcast Network host Jason Myrtetus for the Hockey & Hounds Podcast, discussing not only Flyers hockey but also his passion for animal welfare.

This week we're finding Cody and Cobalt a new home. Everyone who has fostered these ten year old pups has gushed over their excellent house manners, sweet couch snuggles, and affectionate personalities. Cobalt (all black) is especially goofy and expressive, and is a sucker for games of fetch. Cody (brown and tan) comes off as more reserved at first, but is an expert couch snuggler who isn't shy about plopping a paw in your lap when he's hoping for some love!

While Cody and Cobalt are being placed separately at the moment, they are looking for very similar homes:
Less-busy neighborhood without a ton of doggy foot traffic
Not an apartment building
Cat-free/small-animal-free

In foster care Cody & Cobalt have been described "kind of like an old married couple" due to their chill and mellow natures, and comfortability being around each other while exploring the world around them. If you are interested in giving Cody & Cobalt a forever home, please email adoptions@phillypaws.org or visit phillypaws.org to fill out an application!
