These were young Jewish boys who had grown up praying. That, “because I believe in God means he should act.” In part 3 of this series we’re going to focus on a man who shared a similar sentiment, but after an encounter with Jesus, he realized his belief was as useful as a an unused can of paint.

Statements and sentiments like this are common, but that doesn’t mean they’re accurate. The most amazing thing about a story of faith isn’t that “we came to God” is that “God came to us.” This is an important revelation and distinction because when we get this part of the story backwards, it impacts everything – how we view ourselves and what we do or don’t do.
In the first part of this series, we’ll look at Jesus’s famous tale of “The Three Stooges” and discover who the “Master” is and, as a result, what the implications are for each of us today.

We’re forced to ask these questions as we deal with the “wilderness walk.” The place of “in-between” God often has us operate in. The Israelites found themselves snake bit after they lost sight of who God was and what he and Moses were doing and leading them to, and even what God asked of them to heal them made no sense; it was exactly what they needed to do, and it was a foreshadowing of what God would do for us. Some say we’ve never been more connected yet disconnected than ever before. And for many, this disconnectedness leads to loneliness, which profoundly impacts us physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. But why is loneliness so hard? Why do we have such a deep need for community as a human race? What does God have to say about it? And most importantly, how is that need met in the church?

When cooking, recipes are a vital part of the process. Unless you have a recipe that tells you how to use the ingredients you’ve collected, the final product could range from magnificent to entirely inedible, depending on your skills. Equally, if two people start with the same ingredients without a defined path and outcome, the end result could look completely different. In this series, we will explore the three key ingredients (ABCs) and the process we are using here at The Bridge to connect people into deeper communities with each other.

The ups, downs, twists and turns of the rollercoaster of life are relentless, unpredictable, exhausting, and overwhelming – and as Solomon pointed out, the rollercoaster has the potential to make not only our stomachs but our hearts sick.

Many times we get to the place where it hurts too much to hope.

In part 2 of this series, we’re going to look at an encounter between Elisha and the woman who was in that very place. The rollercoaster she had been on for years left her at the place where she believed in God but gave up hope that he could or would do anything about her circumstance.
