I Thought I Knew You

For 13 years, I lived with a secret that drove every aspect of my life. The person I am today only came into existence when that secret escaped. If you only know me now, you wouldn't have a clue what shaped me. And every person I meet is also changed and shaped by life. I want to know their before as much as I want to know their after. So here are the rules of the game. My guests must be people I already know. They cannot be celebrities or otherwise famous people, and I must be as willing to be open as my guests are. Consider this podcast the “be a tourist in your own city” version of an interview show. Join me, Scott Drochelman, as I try to understand all the quirks and nuances and flaws and wonderful things that make up the people I know.

Welcome to another episode of I Thought I Knew You. I'm so glad you're here. Today we have a special episode with my dad. Growing up, my dad was good at a lot. He was athletic and adventurous and smart and handsome. He loved to read and was always trying to learn something new. He was intentional in the way he raised my brother and I.

He worked hard to try to get it right. I remember hearing him practicing conversations he was going to have with us. I saw him cultivating challenges and experiences while driving us around the country in our minivan. He coached teams and made time for conversations.

He always hugged me and he apologized for the times he got it wrong, and he has always believed in me and told me he was proud of me. I'm lucky to have him. You're in for a good one today.

Welcome to I Thought I Knew You, The Season Finale with My Dad

Connect with Me

Instagram | @itikypodcast

Email | itikypod@gmail.com

Welcome to another episode of I Thought I Knew You. I'm so glad you're here. Today we have a special episode with my friend Natalia. Natalia is one of the hardest working people that I know, And yet it never seems to diminish the energy she has for other people. When you speak with her, she treats you like she has all the time in the world. Even when you know there are hundreds of things that are more deserving of her time. Natalia's story is selfless and her desire to serve has created spaces and connections that could not exist without her energy. And she's always had that gift from her childhood in Colombia to the person I know today. She's always been able to bring people together.
1. My Wife

Welcome to I Thought I Knew You. I'm so glad you're here. If you're new to the show, here are the rules of the game. My guests must be people I already know. They cannot be celebrities or otherwise famous people, and I must be as willing to be open as my guests are.

Consider this podcast the be a tourist in your own city version of an interview show. Let each episode be the restaurant you drove past a million times and never went inside. Or the bookstore with the weathered sign that's always caught your eye.

If you're up for it, I'd like for you to come along as I try to understand all the quirks and nuances and flaws and wonderful things that make up the people I know. For this first episode. I decided to interview my wife. I felt like if I could learn new things about someone that I'd known for 20 years, I could uncover new things about anyone. So today's episode is a special one.

My wife is great at giving me the business. In this one she constantly cracks me up. To know her is to know someone who spends hours making things for other people. Someone who is tireless and selfless. She doesn't want the spotlight. She only performs around people she loves and trusts. I admire her for her brain. I'm constantly impressed with her problem solving and her tenacity. I admire her dedication to helping people in some of the hardest and most dangerous situations a person can find themselves. She's the one who fixes things around the house and brings home broken down furniture because she sees potential that I never see. She spends weeks making Halloween costumes for our kids and gives them a kind of love that they will struggle to find at any other point in their lives. She is my favorite person in the world and it isn't even close.

You're never gonna fully know her like I do. In the space of this interview, I feel like a part of her came out that doesn't often come out for other people, and I'm just so excited for you to hear it. Thank you again for being here. I'm excited for the stories that you're gonna get to hear as a part of the show. I hope it encourages you to be more vulnerable with the people in your life. I think the world's better when we don't have to hide. So here we go. First episode.

Welcome to I Thought I Knew You with My Wife.

Connect with Me

Instagram | @itikypodcast

Email | itikypod@gmail.com

<itunes:summary>Welcome to I Thought I Knew You.

So today's episode is a special one.</itunes:summary>

Welcome everybody! I'm so glad you're here. This episode was with Alex. Alex is an incredible mix of hard work and vulnerability and humor. In this episode he talks about his life feeling like he's been on a treadmill, and I think that's a really apt description of his journey. He's always pushing and driving forward, forward, forward and currently at a moment where he's questioning some of that.

Alex is really open about where that came from, and the expectations he puts on himself and about the wonderful things that work ethic has brought about and all the challenges that come along with it.

I'm excited for you to hear this one. You're gonna get to hear a lot from Alex that he doesn't often show, but I think is really critical in understanding who he is as a person.

Welcome to I Thought I Knew You with Alex.

Connect with Me

Instagram | @itikypodcast

Email | itikypod@gmail.com
