My Beloved | Blessed | Part 5 In Mark 1:9–11, we see Jesus baptized by John — stepping fully into the Father’s will and receiving the Spirit. And in that moment, the Father’s voice declares over Him, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” So often, we’re tempted to anchor our identity in negativity, in our failures, or in what others say about us. But as believers, our identity is secured in Jesus Christ — the suffering servant who made a way for us to be reconciled to God. Because of Him, we are called “beloved.” This is why we can say we are blessed: not because life is easy or circumstances are perfect, but because we are deeply and irrevocably loved by God. Let’s walk in that truth.

Spiritual Blessings | Blessed | Part 2 This morning we continued our series, Blessed, with a powerful message from Senior Pastor David Dwight. The ultimate blessing is not the granting of what we asked of God, but the intimacy with Him that grew in the years we prayed for that miracle, longed for that financial stability, ached for the restoration of those relationships, or cried for the healing of mental and physical illnesses. Whatever draws us closer to God is, in the truest sense, a blessing. He is our prize. As followers of Jesus, we live by a gospel-shaped value system — not the world’s. What culture might see only as hardship, we see as an invitation to experience the richness of God’s kindness and grace more fully. At the core of every longing is a deeper desire for God Himself, even when we don’t realize it. And it’s in the struggles and in the waiting that He grows our relationship with Him, knowing that the joy to come will be magnified beyond what we could ever hope for or imagine.

Before and After | All in All | Part 4 If we truly believe that we have been raised with Christ, we are to look higher to live deeper. This week, we invite you to mediate on Colossians 3:1-14: “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.

The Protector | Isaiah’s Voice | Part 8 Outreach Director and Lodge Pastor Drew Paulette continued our summer series with a message from Isaiah 43. Written to the Israelites during their exile in Babylon, this chapter offers a picture of a people living in captivity — far from home, disconnected from their identity, and uncertain of their purpose. But God speaks through Isaiah to remind them — and us — of what is true:“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” (v. 1) Even today, as believers living as pilgrims in a world not our own, we often need this same reminder. Drew challenged us with two questions: What captivities are we living in? What cisterns are we drinking from? We were made to glorify God — our lives a song to the Lord. But have the dry, broken cisterns of this world distracted us? Have they lured us away from our true identity and calling? Take heart, Church: Jesus has set us free. We are no longer bound to sin or the empty promises of the world. Because of Him, we drink from the well of Living Water — one that flows in aeternum. “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.” (v. 18-21)

This morning, Senior Pastor David Dwight guided us through Isaiah 35, reflecting on the reality and purpose of spiritual deserts. These seasons can feel dry, disorienting, and deeply painful — when all that once brought comfort or strength seems to vanish, and hope feels out of reach. But in the quiet and barrenness, something sacred happens: our souls are laid bare before God. Stripped of distractions and self-reliance, we are invited into deeper communion with Him — where false beliefs are challenged, surface-level faith is exposed, and our hearts are reoriented toward what is true. If you find yourself in a desert now, it may feel impossible to imagine joy, renewal, or even peace. But hold fast. Deserts do not last forever. Living water will flow again. The wasteland will bloom. “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come…” (Isaiah 35:4)

The Peace | Isaiah’s Voice | Part 5 The Bible tells a sweeping story — one of promises made, promises fulfilled, and the space of waiting in between. This morning, we explored Isaiah 11:1–12, a powerful prophecy that foretells the coming kingdom of peace through the root of Jesse — Jesus, who reigns with perfect justice and righteousness. Isaiah offers us a breathtaking glimpse of what the world will be like when Jesus returns to make all things new (vv. 6–8): “In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together;the leopard will lie down with the baby goat.The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion,and a little child will lead them all.The cow will graze near the bear,the cub and the calf will lie down together.The lion will eat hay like a cow.The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra.Yes, a little child will put its hand in a nest of deadly snakes without harm.” Even now — amid hardship, struggle, and waiting — we can cling to hope because we know how the story ends. The Most High God has given us His Son for our redemption and His Spirit to dwell within us, reminding us daily of the unshakable hope we have in Jesus.

Isaiah 9:1-7 is a beautiful reminder that even in seasons of darkness, God is not silent, and He is not distant. We often spend so much of our energy fearing the threats around us, consumed by what could go wrong. But Isaiah calls us to a holy reset — to turn our eyes from fear and fix them on the living, true God who holds all things in His hands. God doesn’t promise a life free of hardship, but He promises His presence in the midst of it. And in His presence, even suffering can become something redemptive, deepening our joy and drawing us closer to Him. The darkness will not last forever. Light is coming, and it’s found in Him. Isaiah also challenges us to examine our hearts. So often, we’re focused on the problems “out there,” when the real battle is happening “in here.” Sin and death — our deepest enemies — are the true yokes of slavery. But the good news? Jesus is coming to break those yokes. He brings peace where there was anxiety, freedom where there was bondage, and joy where there was sorrow. So let’s not walk away from the glory of the one true God. Let’s shift our prayers from striving to trusting, from self-centeredness to God-centeredness. He is worthy. He is trustworthy. And He is with us — our Light in the darkness.

The Virgin | Isaiah’s Voice | Part 3 This morning, Senior Pastor David Dwight continued our series Isaiah’s Voice with a message from Isaiah 7:5–16 (NLT), a powerful passage that anchors this third week of our journey through the book. Isaiah was given a vision of God’s glory—and a calling to remind the people of Israel of the Lord’s greatness, power, and holiness. But at this point in their story, the Israelites had lost sight of who God truly was. They had constructed a religion of their own making—one void of God’s presence and shaped by their own desires. Even so, in His mercy, God offers a promise of rescue. Through Isaiah, He declares a sign of hope: “All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’)."

This morning, we heard from our Missional Pastor, Matt Hartman, as he continued our sermon series Isaiah’s Voice with a message from Isaiah 6:1–8. In the first five chapters of Isaiah, we see the spiritual state of Israel—prosperous, yet far from God. Their hearts had turned away from Him. Then, in chapter six, Isaiah is given a stunning vision: he finds himself standing in the presence of the Lord, seated on His throne in the temple. In that moment, Isaiah is overwhelmed—not by the beauty of the vision alone, but by the deep awareness of his own sin. He believes he is undone, unable to survive such holiness. But then something extraordinary happens. In a foreshadowing of the gospel, a seraph touches Isaiah’s lips with a burning coal from the altar and declares, “Your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for” (v. 7). It’s a moment of mercy and cleansing. And when the Lord asks, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah responds with a heart transformed: “Here I am. Send me!” In reading this passage, we can see our own deep need for God, the incredible gift of salvation through Christ, and the willing response that flows from a heart changed by His love.

Responding | Pentecost Moment | Part 5 This morning, Senior Pastor David Dwight concluded our Pentecost Moment series and delivered a convicting and hope-filled message on the true nature of repentance... that to repent is to exchange lords over our lives. We often think of repentance as merely saying “sorry,” but Scripture shows us it’s much deeper than that. It’s about stepping away from the false lords and idols that demand everything and give nothing... the lords of culture that are, quite literally, killing us... and turning instead to the One true Lord who gives life. Repentance is an invitation. It’s not just turning from sin; it’s turning toward a Person, Jesus. When we lay down our idols, we’re not left empty. God fills that space. He leads us into a spacious place, one marked by peace, freedom, and joy. “Jesus is Lord” is the most life-giving truth we could ever receive or share. To declare His lordship is to experience cleansing: sin and idols out, God in. Anxiety out, life in. This is the great idol exchange at the heart of the gospel. As the Church, we’re called not just to proclaim Jesus is Lord in our worship, but in every corner of our lives and to believe He reigns in every corner of the world. Repentance isn’t loss. It’s life.

Explanation | Pentecost Moment | Part 4 This morning, Senior Pastor David Dwight continued our Pentecost Moment series with a powerful message on the church’s call to bear witness to Jesus Christ. Over the past few weeks, we’ve reflected on the significance of the tongues of fire given to all believers at Pentecost. Throughout Scripture, fire represents the presence of God — and now, through the gift of the Holy Spirit, His presence dwells within us always. But why did God give us His Spirit? To ignite us — to empower us to boldly proclaim what we know to be true: that Jesus, who was crucified, raised, and exalted, is both Lord and Messiah. As the Church, we are called to lift high the sign that declares to the world, “Jesus is Lord,” and to trust the Holy Spirit to move in hearts so that every person might come to know Him as their Lord too.

This morning, our Outreach Director, Drew Paulette, guided us through the third week of our Pentecost Moment series. We are living in the age of the Holy Spirit. From Pentecost to today, the Spirit — the third person of the Trinity — has come to dwell in us. And while it’s easy to focus on what the Spirit means for us individually, Drew reminded us that God poured out His Spirit for His Church and for His Mission. Where the fire of God’s presence was once distant and inaccessible, it now resides within each believer. That fire empowers us to carry God’s mission into a dark world, lighting it up through the proclamation of the good news. This mission isn’t just for pastors, evangelists, seminary grads, or those who seem naturally gifted — it’s for all of us, empowered by the Spirit, called to carry the light of Christ into the world.

Descending | Pentecost Moment | Part 2 Ten days before Pentecost, Jesus commissioned His disciples to be His witnesses to every nation, tribe, and tongue—empowered by the Holy Spirit. But the Spirit had not yet been poured out. It’s not hard to imagine the questions stirring in their hearts. Confusion. Doubt. Curiosity.How are we supposed to do this? What will the Holy Spirit be like? How will we reach the people nearby—let alone those at the ends of the earth? They trusted Jesus’ words, but what unfolded at Pentecost was beyond anything they could have anticipated. Acts 2:1–4 tells us: “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” God was on the move—and He still is. His ways may surprise us. His power may look different than we imagined. But the call remains the same: lean in, listen, and go. In our new series, Pentecost Moment, we’re exploring Acts 1 and 2, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on God’s people, forever transforming how believers relate to Him. This moment marked the shift from religion to relationship. Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, God became personal to each believer. His people were filled with a new love and joy that would alter their souls—and propel them to the ends of the earth to share the good news, so that others might come to know Him too. Today, Jesus continues to build His Church, fulfilling the Father’s will and delighting His heart. And we are called to be His witnesses—to those closest to us, to our communities, to those we find hardest to love, and to all people, as far as we can reach.

Colossians 1:15–17 (NLT) tells us that, “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. The Business of Heaven | Soul Calling | Part 5 We are deep into our sermon series, Soul Calling, where we’re exploring Jesus’ teaching through the parables. Today, we were in Matthew 21:33-44, where in the last week of His life, Jesus shares the parable of the tenants. We see a vineyard owner intentionally investing in his business — tilling the ground, planting seeds, digging a winepress, and building a watchtower. After renting the land to farmers, he sends his servants to collect the fruit, but they are met with hostility and greed for the farmers intended to reap the harvest for themselves. Jesus delivers a sobering truth: “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who produce its fruit.” (v. 43) We are called to live a Kingdom life in partnership with God. We are called to work alongside Him with joy — sharing in His vision and plan for redemption. We are invited into His mission — serving Him and bearing fruit. Do we see it that way? Senior Pastor David Dwight challenged us to examine our vision of life with God. Do we ask what God does for us or what we do for God?

Wait for It | Soul Calling | Part 4 This morning, Senior Associate Pastor Pete Bowell continued our Soul Calling series with a message on Matthew 25:1-13. The parable of the ten bridesmaids is one of hopeful perseverance, but also of sober judgement. The parable begins by saying, “Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil.” If the bridegroom we, the Church, wait for, Jesus, is on the way, as Scripture says, then that reality changes everything. It changes the way we live. It calls us to be thoughtful and watchful, to prepare in the waiting. It calls us to keep the lamps of our souls burning and to ensure that we fill our reserve of oil to sustain us in the in-between. Jesus Christ is coming to redeem, restore, and make all things new, and we eagerly anticipate that day. As we wait with eternal hope, it would be wise to ask ourselves this question: Are we like the bridesmaids who did not prepare enough oil? The Shadow of Righteousness | Soul Calling | Part 3 This morning, we continued our series, Soul Calling, with a powerful message from Senior Pastor David Dwight on the parable of the tax collector. In Luke 18:9-14, Jesus cuts to the core of the human condition. We see the Pharisee, a religious figure of this time, thanking God that he isn’t like other sinners — measuring his righteousness against others — wholly unaware of the sickness pervading his own soul. Meanwhile, the tax collector stands at a distance, overwhelmed by his unworthiness. He doesn’t justify himself or compare his sins to anyone else’s. Instead, he humbly cries out, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Jesus declares that it was the tax collector, not the Pharisee, who went home justified before God. “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 18:14) Through this parable, Jesus invites us to repent and examine ourselves not by the standards of others but by the holiness of God alone. Self-righteousness makes us feel safe and powerful, but in repentance, we find life. And here’s the good news: when we turn to Jesus in humility, we don’t find condemnation — we find mercy, love beyond measure, and open arms waiting to receive us.

In Matthew 18:21-35, Peter asked Jesus how often he should forgive someone who wrongs him — seven times? Jesus challenged him to go far beyond, saying, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. He then shares the parable of the unforgiving servant. Out of mercy, a king forgave a servant’s incredible debt. Yet, when confronted with a much smaller debt owed to him, the servant chose not to forgive as he was forgiven. The message is clear: we have been forgiven beyond measure, and in response, we are called to extend that same mercy to others. Forgiveness isn’t about keeping score — it’s about reflecting the limitless grace we’ve received. Just as the condition of the soil determines whether a seed thrives or dies, so the state of our souls affects how God’s Word takes root in us. Yet even amidst the beauty and cheer, a deep longing lingers — an ache for something more, something greater, something eternal. It’s the longing for a true and lasting home. Psalms 90:1-2 says, “Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” The Lord is our dwelling place—the One who left His heavenly home to take on flesh, die a sinner’s death, and, by His grace, make what is His by nature ours as well. This is the hope we hold onto: we long for heaven and eagerly await our Savior, who will one day bring us home.

In Ephesians 6, Paul reminds us to honor each other in the closest relationships in our lives - our families and our colleagues - and to value each other despite our differences and shortcomings. He also writes about the need to prepare ourselves to stand strong against the devil. David reminded us that evil exists in the world, but we can prepare ourselves to stand firm by staying near to God in prayer and to pursue community with each other. What’s Your Name? | When God Speaks | Part 2 We continued our sermon series, When God Speaks, with a message from Senior Pastor David Dwight. In Exodus 3:7-15, God commissions Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egyptian captivity and into the promised land. Seemingly overwhelmed by the enormity of the task, Moses protests, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” God’s response is profound, though not what we might expect. He doesn’t reassure Moses by addressing his doubts or limitations. Instead, God makes a promise: “I will be with you.” He then reveals His name, “I AM WHO I AM.” In Scripture, names carry deep meaning, often reflecting one’s essence. Here, God is revealing His character — boundless, all-powerful, ever-present, and existing beyond the limits of time. Like Moses, we often feel immobilized by our own fears, anxieties, and perceived inadequacies. Yet, in His grace, God lifts us beyond the tyranny of self-focus. He invites us to shift our gaze to Him — the God who was, who is, and who will always be — and to invest our energy in cultivating an intimate relationship with Him.

With her Jewish heritage hidden, she was elevated from orphan to royalty and made queen to the king of Persia. After an order to kill all the Jews in Persia is enacted, she is faced with a conflict that would impact herself and her entire family. In her pivotal moment, Mordecai’s words still resonate today: “If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14 (NLT) As God’s handiwork, we too were made for such a time as this. Right here, right now, with the gifts and talents God has entrusted to us — He is weaving a story of restoration in our broken world. There’s a purpose behind where He’s placed each of us. The story of Daniel showcases a man, who even in exile, stayed faithful to God in a nation that desperately needed to see + experience Him. In fiery trial with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, he miraculously withstood the flames, confidently displaying God’s rescuing grace to the king. In the lion’s den, Daniel trusted God to keep him safe and by morning, emerged unscathed, impressing the king to decree that all should fear and revere the living God. Daniel embraced the circumstances he was placed in and allowed God to use him to reach the people of Babylon. He stood confidently in his beliefs, but built bridges, not walls, along the way. Through deep relationships and genuine connection, the impact of his testimony spread far and wide. Like Daniel, we can stand confidently on the promises of the Lord and trust Him in any circumstance. We can embrace our circumstances and display the love and character of God within them. Like Daniel, we can build bridges, share our story, bless those around us, and represent the Lord well where He’s placed us.

This morning, Missional Pastor Matt Hartman continued our sermon series, Walk On, with a message on Elijah – a prophet called to lead the people of Israel back to the Lord. During Elijah’s time, civil war had divided Israel and the hearts of many had wandered and began to worship different gods and idols. Elijah, called by God, challenged the people for their divided loyalties and urged them to return to the Lord. Their pursuit of multiple gods left them aimless, hopeless, and without clear purpose. Rather than relying on the Lord, they placed their trust in idols and their self-sufficiency—seeking from themselves what only God could provide. It is not so different for us. How often do we turn inward to ourselves instead of upward towards God? How often do we allow our attention to drift and linger on earthly things instead of the things of above? How often do we place our trust and rest our security on things that will tarnish and fade? Just as God used Elijah to turn Israel’s hearts back to Him, He worked through Jesus to do the same for us. He restores us, often disrupting our path to redirect our hearts towards Him. He finds us in our darkness and our sin and because of His great love and mercy, makes us new through the blood of Christ.

Her faithfulness and trust in God as her sustenance were richly rewarded. Today, we may find ourselves in a season of spiritual famine, navigating through a wilderness of uncertainty. Yet, the only true sustenance for us in the midst of our hardships—and our victories—is Jesus, the bread of life. The story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 offers a powerful illustration of how God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people. David, just a 15-year-old shepherd, found himself on the frontlines of battle after consistently saying yes to the tasks laid before him. With unwavering courage and faith, he defeated Goliath using only a sling and a stone—a mighty act that showcased God’s glory. But before this remarkable moment, David's life was filled with the simple, everyday responsibilities of a shepherd. David’s daily life involved tending a flock of sheep, a task far removed from battling giants. He had no idea that such a challenge awaited him — he was simply being obedient to the duties before him. Through his routine, he cultivated a deep relationship with God, drawing nearer to Him in the quiet moments of his life. Executive Pastor Wes Peterson reminded us this morning that there is profound purpose in the ordinary. Just as David’s faithfulness in the small things grew his relationship with the Lord and prepared him for a great challenge, our daily tasks offer us the opportunity to grow closer to God. He calls us to engage with Him — not someday, not later, but right now. Through David’s story, we learn the importance of loving God and tending to the “sheep" entrusted to us. Gideon | Walk On | Part 5 We’re halfway through the Walk On series! This morning our Outreach Director, Drew Paulette, shared a powerful message on Gideon + how God called him to a mission and purpose bigger than himself. Gideon, a member of one of the weakest clans, led an army of just 300 soldiers against 135,000 Midianites with a seemingly ridiculous plan. Against the odds, they won the battle, not by their own might, but by the Lord’s. If we were to place ourselves in this story, we’d probably wonder if there was a better way. We’d ask, am I the right person? How is this a good plan? Is this possible? Judges 6-7 reminds us that God’s ways are not our ways. God continues to choose strategies and methods that require Him to show up in big ways so that He is glorified and our dependence + faith upon Him are strengthened. The Lord is calling all of us into the same story + mission that He called the heroes of the faith. We can move forward confidently + courageously in that call because He is with us, as He was with Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, and Gideon. The Lord is with you so walk on.

Upon his passing, Moses’ assistant, Joshua, was called by the Lord to lead the people of Israel into the promised land. We can imagine how daunting stepping into his predecessor’s role may have felt for Joshua, but the Lord promised His presence and commanded him to be strong, courageous, and obedient God’s Word.

To be obedient, whether in leadership or not, means to seek the Lord, hear Him, and act according to His will. Thankfully, He gifts us the law, which instructs us how to love Him, love people, and live to the full intention of His design.

Senior Pastor David Dwight shared five big-picture foundations that God is bringing about through the obedience of Biblical figures like Joshua:

A faith: a trusting relationship with God

A doctrine: the way of life with this God

A place: a homeland where they live this life with God

A savior: the one who is life, gives life, and in whom life is found

A living hope: a life in loving relationship with God, anticipating the joy that’s to come

He says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35) In Mark 10:45, Jesus says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” He’s telling us, like He told the rich, young leader, to get rid of whatever is in our lives that has come first before Him. What earthly ideal have we elevated to the place of God in our hearts? Is it our money, social status, power, politics, or material goods? Our God desires to set us free from a life striving for what we can get out of it. Instead, He desires that we would have a heart that asks, “What do I get to give?” When we truly understand the gospel we will be grateful for all the Lord has done for us. When we are filled with gratitude we will naturally overflow generosity. We will delight in giving our time, energy, and money to the people and Kingdom of God. Senior Pastor David Dwight called this a “Three G Christian” — Gospel Gratitude Generosity. All we can truly give God are our hearts. Crisis | Peter’s Story | Part 5 Peter’s story tells us that, like him, we will mess up and we will face failure. His story tells us that we have the choice to either live in the condemnation and shame of our mistakes or let them drive us back into the arms of Christ. Jesus sees our mess, knows all our past, present, and future mistakes, and loves us still. Romans 5:6-8 says, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person, someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Peter’s denial of Christ was not the end of the story. Your failures are not the end either. God transformed Peter from a man who denied Christ to save his own skin into the rock of the Church. Imagine what God can do through you. Turn to Christ, for in Him there is love and forgiveness that have no earthly match. He alone can redeem you. Passion | Peter’s Story | Part 4 As we read about Peter it becomes clear that a story of a man transforming from self-centeredness to Christ-centeredness is unfolding. He, like us, begins as rough rock under the chisel of Christ. He was brash and outspoken. He inserted himself into conversations + situations that did not necessarily need his input. He stumbled, tripped, and failed tremendously along the way. Peter is like us and we are like him. Over time, he entrusts his shortcomings, failures, and disappointments to the Lord, and his character + faith are refined. And as believers, we have the same opportunity to take our failures and disappointments and submit them to Christ. We can ask, “God, what do you have for me in this? How can I grow deeper in intimacy with Christ through this?” In doing so we allow Christ to lead us out of the captivity of a self-centered life and into the freedom of Christ-centered life.

How often do we find ourselves amid something grand + important, but are unaware of it until we look in hindsight?

This morning, Executive Pastor Wes Peterson shared with us the story of the Last Supper in Luke 22:21-24, 31-34. The disciples argued with each other about who was the greatest among them all the while sitting in the presence of Jesus Christ, the greatest of all time!

It was there Jesus shared that Peter would betray Him, not once, but three times. Jesus was not shocked, was not surprised, and was not concerned because He had and still has a greater plan.

Jesus would use the failures of Peter to redeem him + sanctify him. He would use Peter’s future faith-testing trials and pain to give him greater purpose. It is the same for us now. Jesus is Lord over all. He can redeem the pain of your struggles + failures for a greater purpose. He can give you a redemption story that could only point to the Father, and strengthen those around you.

Vision - Drew Paulette | Peter's Story

In thin spaces, where the veil between heaven and earth is almost translucent, we’re able to see a vision of goodness + glory. Maybe it’s beholding an unending landscape of peaks and valleys or basking in the joy + warmth of laughter with your dearest friends. In God’s incredible kindness, He shows us these glimmers of glory. Yet, in all their beauty, they are not enough. They point to a vision more powerful and enduring. Jesus alone.

As Peter stood atop the holy mountain witnessing Jesus’ face shining like the sun in Matthew 17:5, God says, “…’This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!’” God told Peter, as He tells each of us today, to fix our eyes on Jesus. Jesus alone is the vision that will carry us through our mountaintops and valleys. Jesus alone is the better plan.

Anything else is simply too small. Our plans, our careers, our lives, our bodies; they’re all too small. Fleeting. Look up, Jesus alone is the vision worth beholding.

This Palm Sunday morning, Senior Associate Pastor Pete Bowell, shared with us the story of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane in Luke 22:39-48.

When we hear “miracle” many of us may think of physical healing, but have we considered the miracle of praying “not my will, but Yours be done” amid sorrow and anguish? Jesus uttered this prayer We are thankful for a savior who, in His own pain, yielded to the will of the Father so that there would be an empty grave on the other side of the cross.

So that His redemption plan would come to pass. So that it would be possible for us to be made alive when we were spiritually dead.

As we enter into Holy Week, we pray that we will have the wisdom and humility to yield our will to God. To relinquish our grip on being the potter instead of the clay.

However, true transformation and healing can only take place through the intervening work of God. This conversion of the human heart is the most common miracle, experienced by every believer. Jesus’ healing of this invalid restores him to wholeness and full health. No less miraculous is the return to wholeness that Jesus offers each one of us in his redemptive offer of salvation. We will never be ready for the full transformation that life in Christ means, but when we say yes, we grow into this new reality and he walks with us in all that is to come.

For Her Dignity | The Meaning of Miracles | Part 5

This morning, Senior Pastor David Dwight continued our series on the meaning of miracles with a message on the bleeding woman in Luke 8:40-48.

She had suffered from a deeply personal medical disorder for twelve years. She was outcast by her culture because she was deemed unclean. Then amongst the throngs of people, Jesus restored her. He healed her in public where she was not welcomed.

Miracles demonstrate the kingdom of God and reveal His glory. Miracles are more about God, rather than they are about us. What does this miracle tell us about our God? It tells us that Jesus wanted the crowds to know she was made clean and whole. That she was a daughter of God. It tells us that He values our dignity, that He loves us, and that we are His children if we place our faith and trust in Him.

If you want meaning, you want Jesus. If you want wholeness, you want Jesus. If you want life and dignity, you want Jesus. If you want to be a daughter or son of God, you want Jesus.

Restoration in Gadara | The Meaning of Miracles | Part 4

This morning, Worship + Family Ministries Pastor Kyle Freedman shared with us the story of the demon-possessed man in Mark 5:1-20.

This man was tormented by a legion of demons, cast out by the Gentile society, living among the dead, and roaming the hills + caves throughout the night like an animal. Upon seeing Jesus’ boat approach shore, he ran to Him. There Jesus cast out the demons, setting the man free. He was commanded to stay in the Gentile society to share the story of his restoration.

He was to share the good news. The good news is that no one is too far gone for the grace of Jesus. Even in our worst moments, there’s nothing we can do that would make Jesus leave us.

He bore our sin and our shame on the cross. He paid the price we could never pay on our own so that we could enter into relationship with Him. We’re excited to share the good news, the story of redemption, with you as Easter approaches!

Senior Pastor David Dwight continued our sermon series, The Meaning of Miracles, with a reading from Matthew 12.

In this passage of scripture, Jesus heals a man with a crippled hand on the day of the Sabbath. It is no coincidence that Jesus healed on this day and did so six other Sabbath days.

This day was for God’s people to rest from their labor, but also to connect with God more than the rest of the week. The Sabbath was and is an invitation to wholeness and oneness with God Himself.

Jesus, restoring wholeness to the man with the crippled hand, was pointing to His Father. Jesus was displaying the character of God to the world. Our God is a god of wholeness, dignity, light, and love.

He is a God of restoration and redemption. He desires to restore our wholeness. He is inviting us to connect with Him deeply and fully so that we would be restored, renewed, and fulfilled.

Senior Pastor David Dwight continues our sermon series about miracles, focused on the reality that when we are praying for miracles, we are often in the most challenging circumstances of our lives. Like the disciples in Mark 4, we ask God, “Don’t you care….?”

We cannot predict or understand when God will intervene in the natural order of things to work a miracle. Our faith rests in the knowledge that he can and the trust that his purposes will be realized, no matter the outcome of the situation we are in.

This supernatural act was a sign pointing to something else. Pointing to Him, His love, and His glory. It was pointing to the spiritual redemption Jesus would later accomplish at the cross. It was inviting those who witnessed it to see Him, know Him, trust Him, and have a relationship with Him.

Wisdom isn’t: Ever to become your God, or your heart’s focus and devotion. Wisdom is: Something that over time leads you to make better decisions based on what is true; decisions that are better than you would have otherwise made. Wisdom isn’t: Protection against pain, or a bargaining chip with God. Wisdom is: For the long haul of life, a long-term companion that plays the long game. Wisdom isn’t: A quick fix, an easy answer. Wisdom is: Invitation, consideration, mystery. Wisdom isn’t: A self-help, self-centered, fix-it tool. The way to wisdom is a growing intimate relationship with God himself. Not God + something. Not God for something.

We continued our sermon series this morning with Senior Pastor David Dwight. He painted a picture of the tree of life. Its roots, character; its trunk, wisdom; its four main branches, truth, trust, humility, and discipline. The book of Proverbs invites us to seek wisdom and to see ourselves in a true and accurate light. Acquiring the truth about who we are can be painful, but it is humbling, edifying, and it is wise. Proverbs tells us that the wise person seeks correction, insight, and shaping. This shaping, this transformation is not possible without love. A love that is so wide, long, high, and deep. How beautiful it is that our God is love.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Love’s Win | Romans 8

Senior Pastor David Dwight concludes our sermon series reminding us that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God. We all can think of something - a past sin, shame, or regret that makes us wonder if God can love us. But in Christ, we can introduce our “something” to God’s “NOTHING” and invite him to bring reunion of our hearts to his intimate and complete love.

As believers we know that God works for the good of those who love Him, but is “the good” the apostle Paul speaks of the same as what we define “good” to be? Is it only happy, victorious endings to the strife and hardships in our lives?

Missional Pastor Matt Hartman reminds us that we may not see resolution to life’s interruptions, closed doors, and heartaches. But when the spirit of Christ lives in us, God is using those messy, difficult situations to draw us closer to Him, conform us to His image, and grow in us a more Christlike compassion, boldness, and hope.

To be human is to be made in the image of God, for our identity to be found in Jesus alone, to be separated from God because of sin, but reconciled through the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and to have eternity planted in our hearts.

We all face problems and challenges in our lives. The secular view says that our problems are caused by external factors. A biblical view of our problems tells us that our problems are caused by our internal sin. When we experience suffering and anguish, we are tempted to wonder "what's the point of living a "good life" if hardship comes to us anyway?" All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments."

So what is the invitation in our suffering? If we are willing to take our suffering to the God, he will use it to write a redemption story in our lives. He will not let our present darkness be our death, but will redeem evil for good to use us further in his kingdom. "Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory."

The Big In The Small / The Surprise of Christmas

Today, Senior Pastor David Dwight continued our Advent sermon series The Surprise of Christmas with a message called "Big in the Small."

He reminded us that though Christ's birth was humble and small in relation to all that was going on in the world, Jesus' birth harkened back to the promise made back in Genesis that God would defeat the powers of evil and death. The Creator had entered his creation and will redeem it all. This amazing and baffling plan of God is his love at work among us. May we have eyes to see the ongoing fulfillment of God's kingdom, as we willingly submit our own hearts and "kingdoms" to him -- our Good Shepherd, the Everlasting King, our Good Father.
