Episode 54 of the podcast welcomes Dave Montiel. Montiel graduated from Cardinal Gibbons in 1989 and committed to Cincinnati to play both baseball and football. After college he signed a minor league contract with Milwaukee Brewers and played winter baseball in Venezuala.

Montiel later served as UCF’s strength and conditioning grad assistant until he signed with the Augusta Stallions of the AFL. After being released by the Stallions, he signed with the Hamburg Blue Devils in Europe for the 2000 season.

Montiel went back to coaching after Europe, and served as a football grad assistant for UCF from 2000-03. Later that same year, he would accept a teaching and coaching position at his alma mater, Cardinal Gibbons, where he’s been ever since.

In 2009, he accepted the Bolton Bulldogs WR coach position before transitioning to the Manchester Titans in 2011, serving as the Titan's offensive coordinator.

In 2014, Stretch was named the Lancashire Wolverines RB coach and special teams coordinator. He coached 3 seasons in Lancashire before heading back to Manchester in 2017, where he remains the Titans special teams coordinator.

Currently, Stretch is helping to create the Manchester Bees, a developmental adult football team that offers adults in Manchester an opportunity to learn and play American football.

Currently, Carroll is the head football coach and athletic director of Jacksonville Athletic Academy in Jacksonville, FL.

Episode 43 of the podcast welcomes Bill Shafer, co-inventor of the Launchpad Kickoff Tee. After serving in the Navy, Shafer walked on to the University of Akron's football team and earned the kicking job. After playing one season for the Zips his wife shared the news they'd be expecting a baby boy. Consequently, Shafer hung up the cleats at Akron and enrolled in paramedic school.

Shafer would play a few years of semi-professional football while working in Akron before being drafted by the Erie Freeze in 2006. During this time he invented the Launch Pad Kickoff Tee with his partner David Abdul. After noticing a trend in NFL kickers leaning the ball forward for field goals (but not kickoffs), Shafer became curious if a forward lean could improve the ball’s contact point and trajectory for kickoffs.

At 60, Shafer still kicks and considers kicking a football to be pure joy. On his free time he enjoys coaching and helping kickers of all levels improve and chase their dreams.

She was named Graduate Student of the Year at the University of Delaware, the recipient of the President’s Medal from Washington College, the Woman of the Year from the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, and the Minority Achievement Award winner from the Maryland State Department of Education.

Episode 38 of the podcast welcomes Bob Chesney, the head football coach at the College of the Holy Cross. Chesney began his head coaching career at Salve Regina University in 2010. In his first year he led Salve Regina to a 6-4 record, snapping a streak of 8-straight losing seasons.

In 2013 Chesney was named head coach at Assumption College and in 2015 he led the Greyhounds to an 11-2 record. Chesney was named the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year, the New England Football Writers Coach of the Year, and the Hero Sports Division II National Coach of the Year.

In 2018, Chesney was named head coach at Holy Cross, where he enters his 4th season this fall. In 2019 Chesney led Holy Cross to the school’s first Patriot League championship in 10 years and the third NCAA FCS berth in program history. Chesney was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year after posting a 5-1 record in conference play to tie the school single-season record for Patriot League victories. Under Chesney’s guidance, Holy Cross has won back-to-back Patriot League Championships and produced 35 All-Conference selections.

Episode 37 of the podcast welcomes Bailey Cate, former punter for Old Dominion University. Cate grew up in Orange Park, FL where he averaged 44 yards per punt his senior year and was named the #1 HS punter in Florida by several recruiting services.

In his true freshman season at Old Dominion Cate was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. He punted 57 times with 23 fair catches and 25 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He also kicked two extra points and was 1/1 on FG against NC State.

Cate would go on to appear in every game the next 3 seasons at Old Dominion, setting records for punts in a season (w/ 66), punts inside the 20 (w/ 84), and the ODU career record for career punts (w/ 244), totaling 9,648 yards (5.5 miles).

Episode 36 of the podcast welcomes Chris Harvey, current head coach for Clearwater Central Catholic HS. Harvey grew up in Accoville, WV and was a two-sport athlete at Man HS, playing football and baseball.

He would choose to play football for the University of Miami over West Virginia, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech. In Harvey’s redshirt freshman season with the Hurricanes he was named the winner of the Albert Bentley Award, given to the team’s Most Valuable Walk-On. He perfectly executed 18 FG snaps, 50 long snaps, and 58 conversion kicks (126 total snaps) during his first season starting for the Hurricanes.

The following season Harvey would be placed on full scholarship, where he would go on to win the 2001 Rose Bowl National Championship.

He would commit to UCF out of high school but would eventually transfer to Southern Miss. Mills would earn the starting LS position for the Golden Eagles, playing in every game as the team's snapper on punts, field goals and extra points. More importantly, he did not have a block on any punts or field goals in an entire season.

Episode 29 of the podcast welcomes Coach Matt Dubuc, head coach for Cardinal Gibbons HS in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Dubuc played for the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs in the early 90’s, leading the Chiefs to the state finals in 1992.

He later committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, where he played WR, RB, KR, and PR. His performance for the Red Raiders drew interest from the CFL, where Dubuc would be drafted in the first round of the 1997 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts. He would later be traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he would retire after the 1999 season. After the CFL, Dubuc coached receivers for 2 years at West Texas A&M while serving as their NFL film liaison.

Dubuc is currently in his 18th year coaching at his alma mater, Cardinal Gibbons, and he is in his 6th year as the head coach. He won the 2018 Florida 5A State Championship (the first in school history) and in 2020 the Chiefs won a second title. Cardinal Gibbons has made the playoffs in all 6 seasons under Dubuc.

Ricardo Allen began his football career at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, FL. In his senior year he would accept a scholarship offer from Purdue University, where he would impressive NCAA career totals: 250 tackles, 3 sacks, 2, forced fumbles 13 interceptions, 4 touchdowns, and 22 pass deflections. As a result, Allen was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 5th round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Allen played the last 7 seasons for the Atlanta Falcons and is currently a free agent. Since 2015, Allen started in 76 games for Atlanta: recording 340 tackles, 11 interceptions and 1 sack. He was a 4 time team captain, and in 2019 Allen was named the Falcons' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.

A leader in both the locker room and his community, Allen was one of the driving forces behind the Falcons' Social Justice Committee, addressing social justice issues in Atlanta. Wright, a native of Lancaster, PA, was touted the No. 46 specialist in the nation by ESPN out of high school. He would choose to play football for the University of Central Florida and go on to have one of the best careers in the school's history.

Wright's honors at UCF:

• Most points in a career with 375

• Most career field goals made with 55

• 212 PATs, a program record, including 153 PATs in a row (another school record)

• Connected on 55/71 field goals, making 75% career attempts (tied for the all-time record at UCF)

• Named Order of Pegasus; most prestigious award at UCF, recognizing exemplary performance in academics, university involvement, leadership, and community service

After UCF, Wright signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an un-drafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. He was waived in final cuts before being selected by the Tampa Bay Vipers in Phase 5 of the 2020 XFL Draft. He would be released by Tampa during training camp but would re-sign with the Steelers in November, 2020.

This season, Wright was elevated to Pittsburgh’s active roster for Weeks 13, 16, and 17. He finished the season making all 4 of his FG attempts and all 7 extra point attempts. His practice squad contract with the Steelers expired on January 18, 2021, but 4 days later the Detroit Lions signed Wright to a futures contract . Currently, Wright is preparing for the 2021 season in hopes to make the Lion’s 53 man roster.

After earning his degree in communications, Deas began his coaching career as an assistant coach for his alma mater, the Kissimmee Osceola Kowboys. He would go on to hold various high school coaching positions, being promoted from a wide receiver coach to defensive coordinator, and eventually being named the head coach of Tohopekaliga High School in2019. Deas was honored as the 2019-2020 Osceola County Coach of the Year after sending 5 players to college in 2020 in only his second year with the program.

In December 2020, Deas agreed to terms with Feltrim Academy to be the next head coach of the football program. Deas is responsible for the start-up of the post-graduate football program which will begin training in July, 2021 in Haines City, FL.

DiCairano, a Connecticut native, didn’t begin kicking until his senior year in high school. Swanson, a Tampa, FL native, made his name in high school as a left-footed punter for the IMG Academy. He was ranked among the best punters in the nation by Prep Star, Rivals.com, 247Sports, and ESPN.com, eventually committing to Clemson in March, 2018.

During his time at Clemson, Swanson has proven to be a versatile specialist, serving as the punter, place kicker, kickoff specialist, and holder for the Tigers.

In Episode 17, Swanson shares the youth sports that helped prepare him to be a college football specialist, a typical week in the offseason for a Clemson football player, dealing with expectations and the competitive culture of major FBS football, and how his faith and mindset have helped him throughout his career.

Episode 16 of the podcast welcomes Cincinnati Bengals kicker, Austin Seibert. A native of Belleville, Illinois, Seibert attended Belleville West HS. His ability to both kick and punt at a high level caught the attention of the Oklahoma Sooners, where committed and began his record breaking career.

Seibert’s highlights at Oklahoma: 499 career points (most by a kicker in FBS history), 2018 Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year, 2018 First Team All Big 12 Kicker, and a 41.7 yd. career punting average (5th best ever at Oklahoma).

In 2019, the Cleveland Browns selected Seibert in the 5th round of the NFL Draft. In the same year he was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team.

In 2020, he was acquired by the Cincinnati Bengals, where he served as the starting kicker and kickoff specialist this season.

In this episode, Seibert and Coach Dan Lundy discuss the the life of an NFL kicker. In-season practice planning, game day process, sideline behavior, and developing a personalized pre-snap FG routine are some of the many topics covered. A Kansas native, Gammon attended Division II Pittsburg State University where he was a captain for the 1991 National Champion Gorillas. During a 15 year NFL career (4 years each with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints and 7 years with the Kansas City Chiefs) Kendall played in the 1995 Super Bowl and a 2005 Pro Bowl.

Today, Gammon is recognized for his time as color analyst for the Chiefs Radio Network Broadcast team. Kendall’s challenging life experiences combined with his NFL achievements have created opportunities for him to share his story and help, even save, others. The show welcomes Coach DJ Wingate. In 2010, Wingate began his coaching career as a student assistant for the Marshall University. From 2011-2013 he earned a graduate assistant position at the University of South Florida, and from 2013-2015 he served as the secondary coach for Davidson College.

In 2015, Wingate would receive his first professional coaching opportunity for the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, coaching linebackers for 2 seasons. He would use his experience in Toronto to accept an offer from the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos, where he is currently the assistant to the HC and a defensive assistant.

During his frequent coaching career moves, Wingate also founded Koach|Enterprise, a program that offers coaches and players support in analytics, field work, recruiting advisement, academic enrichment, and mentorship.

Wingate shares the importance of analytics, and how it is such a large component of his coaching success, the importance of coaches coaching the "why," the value in holding players accountable, and why teams with positive player and coach relationships succeed.

Schaneville was named Freshmen Of The Year in football for the Panthers, breaking a school record for most field goals in a season (15). In the offseason he's a guard for the basketball team, averaging 6.5 PPG with an 84% on free throw. On May 11, 2020, everything changed. The Florida Tech football program terminated its program, forcing Trey to make a tough decision...find a school to transfer to and continue playing football or stay at Florida Tech and retire from football. James Sherman is in his second season as the Director of Player Development for Texas State University. Sherman was a four-year letterman for the Bobcats, set three single-game kicking records, and served four years on the student-athlete advisory committee.

Sherman set Texas State’s single-game records for most field goals made and attempted when he went 5/6 against Texas Southern in 2018. He also tied another school record and equaled the fourth-highest point total in Sun Belt Conference history when he scored 18 points in Texas State’s 36-20 victory over Texas Southern.

He was named Texas State’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2018 after serving as the president of Texas State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and vice-chair on the Sun Belt Conference’s SAAC. He earned a Texas State Academic Achievement certificate three times, the school’s Academic Star of Excellence once, and was on the Sun Belt Commissioner’s List three times after maintaining a GPA between 3.5-4.0.
