Venus Williams was up 4-0 in the third - but somehow collapsed in technique and serve - and lost. The Open had a record breaking crowd of 73,000 on the first day, with many of the fans rushing to see Alex Eala the young Filipino, who has become a breakout star on the WTA Tour with the amount of fans anxious to see her play. From Hong Kong to Melbourne they are driven by Ella's tenacity. She has given her country a lot to cheer. The Aussies brought out Federer and Agassi to play Rafter and Hewitt in a pre first round doubles exhibition. The retired Ash Barty came out to relieve a rather winded Agassi.Djokovic Alcaraz easily through as were Pegula, Gauff, Swiatek, Andrea. Wimbledon champion Vondrousova had to withdraw because of a shoulder injury and Felix Auger Aliassime retired to cramping. Ball is in Ougi's court talks about why the first round is so important and difficult to get through - as Alexandra attests to her play early in her career. Alexandra and her student packed up and got back to their houses to find that they had to evacuate. Eventually, all of the Palisades went up in flames. Alexandra's grocery, dentist, pharmacy, bank. Beautiful iconic places turned to rubble in the beginning of Malibu. The Sinner-Fritz match was straight forward because Fritz didn't use his legs or the whole court to force Sinner out of position. Sinner just kept coming - even in the third when it appeared Fritz was going to give the crowd more energy and win the set at 5-4, serving. Some errors and mishits gave the game to Sinner - and that was really the match. Sinner wins 7-5. Pegula-Sabalenka was two sets. Alexandra Stevenson and co-host Hugues "Ougi" Laverdiere discuss Carlos Alcaraz and the complete Spanish style of play during his matches at Indian Wells. They note that his second serve was impressive and the ability to come to net and keep Medvedev off balance. Medvedev showed that playing from the far back of the court didn't ultimately help him against Alcaraz. After the close first set that ended in a 7-5 tie for Alcaraz, Medvedev lost any glitter he might have had with his forehand. His feet looked late to the ball - and Alcaraz capitalized on his errors.

Swiatek reigned supreme because of her movement, but not because of her volley acumen - which is non-existent. The women side of Indian Wells was underwhelming.

Alexandra discusses the extra sand that is used to lay the court - prior to the tournament start -that is making it difficult for players in their matches. Alexandra says the ball jumps up at them. Alexandra says you have to hit hard and heavy to make the ball go through the court. They catch up on other matches - and Alexandra discusses the player branding that is going on with both the ATP and the WTA Tour - allowing players to capitalize on outside business interests. She has a theory that Djokovic is in a "training" phase as his legs are much stronger than in Australia - and perhaps this is to get ready for the clay season.

The Oscars' winner of the night - without receiving the golden Oscar - was Ryan Gosling, in a rip-roaring singing and dancing presentation of "I'm Just Ken." Gosling was dressed in a sparkly pink suit and pink gloves. It appeared to be a throwback to Marilyn Monroe's dance number in "Some Like It Hot."

Alexandra tells Ougi about going to the Madonna Celebration Tour. She had floor seats, close to the stage - and she said she was surrounded by wonderful, decked out gay guys, in pearls, Newsboy hats - and charming shout outs to "Madge."

Alexandra Stevenson and co-host Hugues Laverdière break down the incident in the Dubai Tennis Championships when Coco Gauff had an altercation with the chair umpire Pierre Bacchi. Alexandra examines the idea of an older white man talking down to a young black woman. The argument went on for about five to six minutes - Coco demanding a Tour Supervisor and Bacchi refusing.

Coco was playing Pliskova and it was Coco serving at 4-2 when Pliskova hit her serve in the net. Bacchi called the serve out AFTER Pliskova had hit the ball in the net. The point should go to Coco. However Bacchi said she had to play the point over. Coco said it was her point - and she requested the Tour Supervisor to settle the point rule. It was clear Bacchi wasn't listening to anything Coco was saying. He continued to deny Coco an audience with the Tour Supervisor.

Alexandra emphasized that it was the biggest sports weekend for her with football, tennis, and figure skating at US Nationals. Alexandra and Ougi wrap up the Australian Open. They discuss Medvedev, Sinner, Sabalenka.

First week of AO a lot of three setters. Medvedev had four five set matches and played a total of 24 hours and 17 minutes. Jannick Sinner is the second Italian to win a Grand Slam. Women and Men Figure Skating for the US Nationals holds special favor for Alexandra as she has watched it since a 5 year-old. She tells Ougi about all of the ins and outs and the winners. Serving Aces has a special guest in Coach Eric Riley from Philadelphia. Riley coached Lisa Raymond and Pam Shriver. Riley graduated from Penn and was the first Black Captain of the Penn tennis team. He now coaches rising junior tennis players and travels the country helping their development in tournaments and practice weeks.

Alexandra calls it her "Coaches Corner" on Day 2 of the Australian Open. The trio discusses the matches from Day 1 and what is happening in Day 2. The topic of the show is about players of the Australian Open 2024. Alexandra talks Novak, Osaka, Gauff and more. Riley says tennis is an amazing sport and understands there's only a handful of players who can get through a Grand Slam. Riley thinks Ben Shelton is his player of the tournament. Novak is the favorite, Riley agrees. He throws Tsitsipas in as a tough player who may make it.

Nick Kyrgios, known for his bad boy image, makes his debut in the ESPN booth with John McEnroe, calling the Tsitsipas match. McEnroe baits him several times including calling Tsitsipas' father "the old man" and Kyrgios just says oh, the father is a good support. McEnroe says am I talking to Nick Kyrgios. Who are you? Alexandra tells Ougi about Pat McAfee - a big ESPN show in the United States, a show that McAfee used to do on You Tube. Alexandra says that McAfee went after a big ESPN executive, calling him a "Rat." She says it's a big story in sports talk radio because the traditional value of sports talk radio is becoming a dead end. And McAfee is not traditional. He called out the executive for leaking his show's ratings to a NY Post reporter, saying only this executive had the information. McAfee is being paid 85 million for five years. McAfee says this executive is sabotaging the McAfee show, leaking ratings, hoping to kill the show's concept. Her quote of the podcast comes from McAfee's twitter from the movie, Scarface: Me. I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say good night to the bad guy." Alexandra says that McAfee "went to the mattresses" like in The Godfather.

Travis flew from Germany on a private plane to make her concert and enjoyed the show with Taylor's father. Taylor surprised the Kansas City Chief player with new lyrics to her hit song, "Karma". She changed it to: "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me." Alexandra talks about it being a real love story.

She wraps ups the first day of the ATP Finals and discusses the play of Tsitsipas - and the comments from former ATP Tour player Greg Rusedski. Rusedski says that Tsitsipas has gone backward in his game.

Drucker has been writing about sports, pop culture, and business for 35 years. He was named Historian at Large by the Tennis Hall Of Fame because of his knowledge and passion for the game of tennis. Stevenson leads the discussion into three parts from the iconic 70s...

Part One, Christ Evert and Martina Navratilova and their 80 match rivalry from 1972 to 1988. Part Two, the founding of the ATP and the crossover of Lamar Hunt's WCT, the handsome eight - and more men's tennis including the grand Cliff Drysdale. Part three, Rock and Roll tennis with Jimmy Connors, the first rock tennis star in the 1970s. Connors brought a boxer's mentality to his "Friday Night at the Fights" matches. Drucker wrote a book, "Jimmy Connors Saved My Life: A Personal Biography." Drucker talks about why Connors was so important to him as a 12 year old in the 70s - and later in his reporter life.

Stevenson continues her weekly fantasy coaches and players picks. Laverdiere and Drucker join in with their male and female picks and the coaches who will help them in the clay season.

Stevenson is a storyteller. Though she was a 1980s baby - she has memories and meetings with many of the 1970s legends. Guest Drucker and co-host Laverdiere join in with their own memories.
