Will Lee got the best of DeVonta Smith in Philly

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Mon, 19 Oct 2026 17:13:40 +0000

Will Lee drew two pass interference flags in the first half in Philly and still got the best of DeVonta Smith more times than not, plus a third-down breakup late in the game.

The rest of the rookie class showed up too. Monroe Freeling is holding down right tackle after being groomed on the left, Zakee Wheatley broke up the fourth-and-17 shot to Smith at the end, plus Lee Hunter got an early hit on Tanner McKee without a flag.

Chuba Hubbard carried Carolina to a 25-14 win in Philly

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Mon, 19 Oct 2026 12:29:22 +0000

Chuba Hubbard had a season-high 28 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown in Philly, his 19-yard run on fourth and one was the play of the day, plus Bryce Young lowered his head for a first down when nobody would have faulted him for sliding.

The rest of the roster was tough too. Will Lee reminds me of Josh Norman, Zakee Wheatley stepped up, Anthony Tyus blocked a punt a week after coming up from the practice squad, plus Tommy Tremble caught both touchdowns. They still made it hard on themselves with 13 penalties for 149 yards, a franchise record.

Will the Panthers get the penalties cleaned up before they cost them a game?

Special Teams Wins Games

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 12:45:00 +0000

Special teams cost the Eagles their game in London. They could win us the game in Philadelphia.

Jake Elliott put Philly ahead with eight seconds left, but Ameer Abdullah's return gave Cam Little a shot to win it for Jacksonville. Nick Sirianni can learn from that decision. Building a roster that can cover kicks takes more than one week.

That's where I trust Carolina. Dave Canales and this front office put real value on special teams, from Brycen Tremayne's coverage work to Trevor Etienne's return opportunities. Ryan Fitzgerald has shown he can make the big kick, and JJ Jansen brings the reliability we've counted on for years.

This goes back to guys like Karl Hankton, Jarrod Cooper, Rod Smart and John Kasay. The third phase has helped define Panthers football, and it can swing this matchup, too.

If this game comes down to one kick or one return, do you trust Carolina's special teams to deliver?

3 Ways Carolina WINS in Philly

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 05:50:30 +0000

The Panthers should win in Philly, but this has trap game written all over it. The Eagles are banged up, Carolina is getting key pieces back, and that still doesn't make this an automatic win.

Taylor Moton's return comes at the right time with Monroe Freeling doubtful. Turk Wharton and Trevor Etienne are back, too. But even with Tanner McKee starting, the Panthers still have to account for DeVonta Smith while Mike Jackson and Jaycee Horn are out.

My three keys:

Keep the Eagles struggling on third down
Give Chuba Hubbard 20 or more carries
Win the special teams battle.

Feed Chuba, let him wear down the defense and open things up for Bryce Young. Philadelphia showed last week how one return can swing a game, and JJ Jansen has a milestone of his own coming up.

Which of those three keys matters most to you? We cannot afford to let this one slip away.

The Panthers' young stars get their biggest test in Philly

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Thu, 15 Oct 2026 08:04:19 +0000

The Panthers are leaning on their young stars, and Sunday in Philadelphia is the biggest test some of them have had since joining the team.

Monroe Freeling is still first on the depth chart at right tackle, but he hasn't practiced with that knee, and Taylor Moton went full. I expect Moton to swap in close to game day. Zakee Wheatley is at an 82.6 on Pro Football Focus, fifth of 96 safeties, and he's still behind Tre'von Moehrig. He's earned more playing time, and against the Eagles now might be a good time to do it. Trevor Etienne is coming back, Philly just gave up a 53-yard kickoff return in London, and I'd rather keep Chuba fresh for the offense. Tetairoa McMillan gets Quinyon Mitchell, a first-team All-Pro corner, and Jalen Coker draws Darius Cooper, undrafted against undrafted. My money's on Coker.

A first-round tackle, a late-round safety grading out like a starter, last year's Offensive Rookie of the Year and an undrafted receiver who keeps showing up. That's a strong core, and it's gonna stay this way for a while. Which young Panther has earned more snaps on Sunday??

Taylor Moton is preparing to play against the Eagles

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Wed, 14 Oct 2026 03:44:07 +0000

Taylor Moton says he's preparing like he's playing, and I expect to see 72 out there against the Eagles front on Sunday.

All we heard was a blood clot in his lung back in June, and there was a lot more to it than that. Dave Canales said Monday he's medically cleared, and the 21-day practice window is open for him and Turk Wharton. He's been our right tackle since 2018, pretty much an Ironman.

Monroe Freeling started the first four games at right tackle and we went 2-2 with him. Once Moton's active, I think Freeling goes back to being the swing tackle.

Does Moton start Sunday??

Jalen Coker and Taylor Moton are the two returns that MATTER

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Fri, 9 Oct 2026 20:44:06 +0000

A couple very important Panthers should be coming back after the bye: Jalen Coker and Taylor Moton. One brings more to the passing game, the other fixes the pocket.

Coker was breaking out before the quad. In three games he had 18 catches on 22 targets for 222 yards and two touchdowns, with 138 yards and both scores against Chicago. He and Tetairoa McMillan complement each other, and with Coker on the other side there's a mismatch somewhere for Bryce.

Moton still needs to be cleared from the blood clot, but when he is, he's back at right tackle and Monroe Freeling goes to the bench to learn from him. Against Philly's front you want the guy who's been doing it for years.

Who are you excited to see come back??

Two corners the Panthers should trade for

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Fri, 9 Oct 2026 04:05:52 +0000

Both of our starting corners are on IR, and I've got two guys Dan Morgan should be calling before the trade deadline. My guy is Keisean Nixon. Plan B is a homecoming, Donte Jackson.

Nixon is 29, in the final year of his deal with Green Bay, and he fits the way we play. Last season he had 72 tackles and 17 passes defended, plus he led the NFL in kick return yards in 2022 and 2023, and we need a returner too. A late-round pick gets it done.

Donte Jackson was our second-round pick in 2018 and spent six seasons here. He played in Evero's defense, had five picks with the Steelers in 2024 and four more with the Chargers last year. The Chargers are 0-4 and he's a free agent in 2027, so he's gettable.

Which corner would you call about first??

The Panthers are LEARNING how to win

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Tue, 6 Oct 2026 11:00:00 +0000

The Panthers are learning how to win. It's still in dramatic fashion, but after taking down the Lions in prime time we're 2-2, with a chance to extend the division lead after the bye.

That blackout on Sunday Night Football was fun. It had been over a decade since Charlotte hosted a Sunday night game. Bryce Young heard the MVP chants, and after four games he's worth being in that conversation. He has over 1,200 passing yards, and the offense is scoring 30 plus points a game, the most points ever through four games in Panthers history.

Next up are the Eagles. Saquon Barkley just got tweaked, and something looks off about that offense. We'll still be without Mike Jackson and Jaycee Horn for a while.

Is Bryce in the MVP conversation??

Tetairoa McMillan WENT OFF against the Lions

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Tue, 6 Oct 2026 03:59:54 +0000

That Carolina Panthers offense could be one of the best in the NFL. 121 points through four games is a team record, and Bryce Young leads the NFL in passing yards.

Tetairoa McMillan stole the show against the Lions on Sunday night. He had 14 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns, plus his tribute to Steve Smith. Chuba Hubbard added 122 yards and two scores.

The defense gave up over 400 passing yards to Jared Goff, but they held the Lions to 26. Will Lee III made the game-winning tackle. We hit the bye at 2-2, still first in the division.

Mike's picks: my SCORE for Panthers vs Lions

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Sat, 3 Oct 2026 12:00:00 +0000

UPDATE (Friday's final injury report): Xavier Legette and Damien Lewis are out. Jalen Coker and Monroe Freeling are questionable.

The Lions are 2-1 and totally beatable in Charlotte, so it's prediction time. There's no reason to believe we can't put up 30 or more on them. We scored over 30 in the first two games, and Detroit's defense is not the Cleveland Browns. It comes down to health: Bryce Young practiced in a knee brace, Xavier Legette did not practice, Jalen Coker was back, Monroe Freeling was limited and Damien Lewis is out.

Plus, we're in all black, in prime time, under the lights at home, with the bye coming up, so leave it all out there. I expect the tight end room to have a big game after 11 catches between three tight ends against the Browns. My score: Carolina Panthers 34, Detroit Lions 31, and it comes down to Ryan Fitzgerald's leg.

What's your score for Sunday night? Leave it in the comments.

Three keys for the Panthers to BEAT the Lions

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Fri, 2 Oct 2026 18:05:34 +0000

Sunday night is almost here, so let's talk about the keys to beating the Detroit Lions. Key one is keeping Jahmyr Gibbs in check: the Bills gave the blueprint, held him to 52 yards and won 41-31. Then we have to get after Jared Goff. He has eight touchdowns and no interceptions through three weeks, but anybody can make mistakes under pressure.

Plus, key number three: protect Bryce. Monroe Freeling was limited in practice and is still in the concussion protocol, Damien Lewis is out with an elbow injury, and Aidan Hutchinson is coming. And a bonus key: score, score, score. This offense is probably going to need over 30 points.

Jahmyr Gibbs is the matchup that DECIDES Sunday night

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Fri, 2 Oct 2026 15:15:07 +0000

Everybody's worried about the receivers, but that's not the biggest problem going into this game. Jahmyr Gibbs is what decides Sunday night. He has 307 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns, 18 catches and 2 receiving touchdowns through three games. If we can take him away, that takes away two threats: the run and the catch.

Plus, the one game the Lions lost, Buffalo held him to 52 yards. There's your key. Lee Hunter was a surprise addition to Thursday's injury report, but Devin Lloyd is back, and he had two interceptions against Atlanta. Amon-Ra St. Brown and his five touchdowns can give us fits too, so let's start with Gibbs. Win that battle, and we win the game.

The Panthers' passing game is a MESS on offense and defense

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Thu, 1 Oct 2026 11:30:00 +0000

UPDATE: Canales says neither Jaycee Horn nor Mike Jackson is out for the season. Both are expected to miss about eight weeks.

The passing game is a mess on both sides of the ball right now. Jalen Coker hurt his quad against the Browns, Xavier Legette has a knee injury, and neither practiced Wednesday, so Tetairoa McMillan is the only sure thing. Brycen Tremayne earned more snaps, and the tight ends had 11 catches in Cleveland.

Plus, the corners: Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are both on injured reserve, so Will Lee, Chau Smith-Wade and Akayleb Evans get a lot of quick experience against the Lions on Sunday Night Football. We'll need big plays from them, the safeties and the pass rush. The bye can't come soon enough.

The Lions' defense is the WEAKNESS Carolina needs

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Wed, 30 Sep 2026 20:49:48 +0000

UPDATE: After I recorded this, the Panthers put Mike Jackson on injured reserve. He's out at least four weeks.

The Lions offense worries me: Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown have 11 touchdowns between them through three weeks, Detroit has scored 31 in every game, and Jared Goff has eight touchdowns and no interceptions. With Jaycee Horn out and Will Lee possibly making his first start, that's the matchup to watch on Sunday Night Football.

Plus, the part that doesn't scare me: that Lions defense. They've given up 30, 41 and 24 points. There will be opportunities for our guys to put up points, with Jalen Coker hopefully back, Tetairoa McMillan without Denzel Ward across from him, and the tight ends coming off 11 catches. Devin Lloyd is back, and I have confidence in this team.

UPDATE: After I recorded this, the Panthers put Mike Jackson on injured reserve. He's out at least four weeks.

Jaycee Horn is headed to injured reserve with a torn quad, and Will Lee might be getting his first start on Sunday Night Football against the Lions. So how do we survive against Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs?

The good news: Devin Lloyd is coming back. After that, it's ball control. Play boring offense, run the ball, get Chuba involved, use A.J. Dillon's power, and keep the ball out of the Lions' hands. .500 and 1-3 are miles apart as we head into the bye.

Injury bug hits the Panthers HARD, plus Mike's MVP (so far)

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Tue, 29 Sep 2026 04:02:59 +0000

The Panthers are starting to look like a M.A.S.H. unit. Jaycee Horn tore his quad against the Browns and he's going to IR, Mike Jackson got hurt early in that game, and we finished with Akayleb Evans, Will Lee and Chau Smith-Wade at corner. That's not going to cut it against Detroit.

Plus, my offensive MVP. It's Jalen Coker. He leads the team in receptions and receiving yards, and he's tied for the team lead in touchdowns.

Coker hurt his quad, Bryce got stepped on and toughed it out, and Damien Lewis has an elbow injury. We have a bye coming up after the Lions game, and with all these injuries, we really need to get healthy.

The silver lining: the tight ends really came to play. Waller had five catches for 51 yards, Tremble three for 41, Evans three for 36. That's 11 receptions for 128 yards. If we can get more production like that, it's going to help everybody else.

Play calling cost the Panthers, mistakes SEALED it

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Mon, 28 Sep 2026 11:00:00 +0000

Notes:
We never should have lost this game. Going for it on fourth down against a tough Browns defense put our defense in a bad spot, and Bryce threw the ball 48 times. That is not the formula for success in Carolina.

Plus, the mistakes. A roughing the passer call after we had the interception to seal it, dropped picks, and missed tackles that made Deshaun Watson look like his old self.

As John Fox used to say, a punt is not a bad play. Today would have been one of those days. It was always going to be a defensive battle and a field position game, and we gave the Browns easy opportunities. Then the offensive line was a mess and Bryce never really got in rhythm.

Panthers keep ATTACKING on Offense

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Tue, 22 Sep 2026 16:00:00 +0000

Keep attacking, but stop beating yourselves. That's Mike Gitkos' message to the Carolina Panthers after the win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Mike breaks down why he backed Carolina's fourth-and-goal decision with a big lead, even though the conversion failed. Staying aggressive gives Bryce Young and the offense opportunities to build confidence and learn from meaningful red-zone reps.

Then, the focus shifts to penalties that erased big gains and stalled a drive. The Panthers overcame those mistakes against Atlanta, but tougher opponents could make them pay.

Keep the aggression. Lose the mistakes. Mike closes with what he wants Carolina to carry into the Browns game: an attacking offense and a hungry defense.

Carolina's defense RESPONDS vs Atlanta

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Tue, 22 Sep 2026 12:00:00 +0000

What a response from the Carolina Panthers. After allowing 59 points against Chicago, the defense held Atlanta to just three, with Devin Lloyd leading a hungry group that swarmed to the football.

Mike Gitkos breaks down the defensive turnaround, Lloyd's monster performance and why the Panthers need to prove they can sustain it.

Then, is Bryce Young showing he's Carolina's franchise quarterback? Mike looks at Young's command of the offense, his connections with Darren Waller and Xavier Legette, and why staying aggressive with a lead was another encouraging sign.

What Carolina must fix in Atlanta + Lee Hunter's debut

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Locked On Podcast Network) — Thu, 17 Sep 2026 22:10:35 +0000

Bijan Robinson is the next test for Carolina’s defense, and rookie Lee Hunter offers a reason for encouragement after a difficult opener.

Mike Gitkos delivers two Panthers takes. First: why Carolina needs to finish tackles, limit Bijan’s space and make Atlanta earn its yards. After allowing 291 rushing yards against Chicago, the Panthers cannot afford another game of missed opportunities to bring runners down. Giving Bijan extra attention also puts responsibility on Carolina’s corners.

Then: Hunter’s six tackles on 34 defensive snaps, his encouraging pass-rush showing and what he needs to do next. One promising debut is a starting point, not proof of consistency.

Jonathon Brooks knee scare a HOAX, Tet McMillan up 17 lbs

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Mike Gitkos) — Thu, 3 Sep 2026 23:38:08 +0000

Jonathon Brooks does not have knee soreness. Dave Canales only said "soreness," the internet ran with "knee," and Brooks' fiancée shut the story down on X. Plus, Tetairoa McMillan is up 17 pounds of muscle after taking home PFWA Offensive Rookie of the Year and overall Rookie of the Year.

With Brooks healthy, the Carolina Panthers take a full running back trio of Chuba Hubbard, Brooks, and AJ Dillon into Week 1 against a Bears defense that struggled against the run last year: Chuba and Dillon wear the defense down, Brooks breaks it. And Tet, now closer to his college weight, should win more contested catches and run through tackles after a year of camp battles against Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson.

Stop blaming Bryce for that UGLY Texans Practice

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Mike Gitkos) — Fri, 28 Aug 2026 11:00:00 +0000

The cold takes on Bryce Young have gotten out of hand. Yes, he had a bad joint practice against the Texans, but the real problem was the pressure. Monroe Freeling felt the heat all day, and Bryce is not seeing that Houston front every week. Mike Gitkos also answers the question "does Carolina need ANOTHER wide receiver?" No. This room is full of hungry guys, and Jimmy Horn Jr. should be the No. 3. Plus, roster cuts are this weekend. Is this the year the Panthers keep three quarterbacks. Keep Pounding. The Pro Bowl is CANCELLED!

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Mike Gitkos) — Fri, 28 Aug 2026 05:58:43 +0000

The Detroit Lions unveiled their new "Rivals" uniforms and they look almost EXACTLY like the Carolina Panthers. Black panther-style logo, the same stripes, the same colors in the same order as Carolina's white uniform, and they even used the Panthers' process blue. How did this get approved? Plus: the NFL killed the Pro Bowl game but is still voting players in. Mike Gitkos explains why letting the Pro Bowl die was the wrong call, from the skills competitions to Kick-Tac-Toe to the jerseys fans still wear to games. A deep dive into the Panthers-Jaguars connection

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Mike Gitkos) — Thu, 20 Aug 2026 22:12:38 +0000

Carolina and Jacksonville came into the league the same year, and the whole thing started with a coin flip that had both logos stamped on it. The Panthers won that one. The Jaguars won the other next coin flip. Two drafts, two coin flips, one apiece.

In this Double Hit: how the 1995 expansion draft worked and why it made both rosters out of other teams' castoffs. The Hall of Fame Game that was the first game either franchise ever played, and every matchup since that mattered -- the Delhomme game, Monsoon Bowl, and the opener that kicked off a Super Bowl run.

Then the part that still stings for both fan bases: 31 years in, neither team has won a Super Bowl. Carolina has been there twice and lost both times. Jacksonville is still chasing their first Super Bowl appearance.

So who gets the Lombardi first?

Panthers injury and joint practice updates

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Mike Gitkos) — Thu, 20 Aug 2026 11:00:00 +0000

Carolina and Jacksonville got together for a joint practice Wednesday and it went the way a lot of Panthers days go. A scuffle early, nobody threw a punch, nobody got hurt. Then a tale of two halves.

First half, Bryce Young had guys in his face all practice long. He would have taken multiple sacks in a real game as the offensive line is still banged up and the starters are still missing, but both guards are on the road back and should be ready for the regular season.

The best news came from Dave Canales on Ikem Ekwonu. There is a possibility he returns for the start of the season. That is not what I expected from a torn patellar tendon.

Monroe Freeling keeps holding up. With both tackles out, our first-round pick is getting real starting reps, and he handled Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen. If you do not hear his name much on Friday, that is a good thing.

Injuries were light. Xavier Legette got rolled up on and is still expected to play Friday.

What do you want to see against the Jaguars on Friday?

(0:00) The scuffle in Jacksonville
(0:26) A tale of two halves
(0:52) The line is banged up
(1:19) Ekwonu could return Week 1

Panthers to watch this season (2026)

lockedonpodcasts@gmail.com (Mike Gitkos) — Wed, 19 Aug 2026 11:30:00 +0000

My top five Panthers on offense, then my top five on defense, two weeks out from a season that follows the franchise's first division title since 2015. On offense it comes down to projection. Bryce Young went from 11 touchdowns to 15 to 23 in three years and the interceptions never moved. Tetairoa McMillan won Offensive Rookie of the Year with 1,014 yards. Jonathon Brooks is back from two ACL tears. And all of it sits behind a line missing both starting tackles.

On defense it comes down to who they brought in. Jaelan Phillips at four years and $120 million, Devin Lloyd at three and $45 million, Jaycee Horn already one of the highest paid defensive backs in the league. Derrick Brown is still the one nobody blocks with a single body. What Panthers made your top 10? #Panthers #KeepPounding #NFL #CarolinaPanthers #BryceYoung #DerrickBrown
