Weeks if not months of rumors and speculation are just about over as we head into draft week and like many of you, Patrick's probably changed his mind about how some things will play out dozens of times. However, it's pretty much put up or shut up time and Patrick has landed on some Bills draft factors he feels pretty comfortable predicting. Among them is admittedly still completely undecided on if the Bills will take a wide receiver early in the draft but confident enough to predict if they take one anytime in the first three rounds that Keon Coleman will be a former Bill by the end of the weekend.

Also, offensive tackle isn't a need right now, but Patrick explains why he thinks you can still a prospect selected there as easy as round three.

Could taking a kicker be on the table? Patrick certainly thinks so. That plus why a defensive tackle at the top doesn't feel like enough value, why he lands on taking a defensive edge rusher first and much more.

The Sabres looked like toast after falling down 2-0 in the third period and lacked energy, which trickled some into the crowd. But Tage Thompson literally changed that with two goals to tie it before Mattias Samuelsson netted the go ahead goal and Alex Tuch gave them insurance (they'd need) with an empty net goal in a nice play by Thompson.

The guys talk about the good, bad and ugly of the game which of course there was plenty of all it. What matters most is the Sabres take game one of the series. Plenty to talk about!

Going into the mock Patrick reveals that his goal is to trade down from Buffalo's 26th overall pick, with the goal of picking up a day two pick without moving too far out range to get one of a handful of players he's hoping to land. However, it takes two to tango and when he's on the block for Buffalo at 26 there's no good offers from other teams. So Patrick is forced to stand pat at 26 and weights a difficult decision between Ohio State defensive tackle Kayden McDonald and a small handful of high potential edge rushers.

Ultimately Patrick goes with McDonald and explains why, hoping to land an edge in the third round at pick No. 91 but all his guys are gone again there, forcing him to pivot off what he originally said. He does get what he considers a gift in the fourth round in a talented linebacker and takes an intriguing offensive tackle with one of his fifth round picks.

After a corner later in the fifth and safety in the sixth, Patrick ends his mock for a second straight time by selecting a-----kicker.  Before leaving Patrick shares his honest assessment of his mock and why he likes this one better than his first.

Other positions are certainly in play for the Bills with their first overall pick in this draft including linebacker, defensive tackle and wide receiver, but Patrick has landed on it being most likely their going to take an edge rusher early. That sent him into studying mode to learn more about the pool of top prospects and he learned plenty about the seven most likely candidates for the Bills to pull the trigger on---on the premise that David Bailey, Rueben Bain Jr and Arvell Reese are all long gone well before the Bills would be on the clock.

At least in the eyes of Patrick, Bills general manager Brandon Beane has done enough with the additions of DJ Moore, Bradley Chubb and CJ Gardner Johnson among others that there isn't one specific glaring need for them at the top of the draft--which to some extent may allow the team to simply take the best player available regardless of (some) positions.  However, when you take a deeper look at the roster, there's certainly areas that are lacking much if any kind of real depth behind the expected starters.

The guys discuss some of these positions, including linebacker, defensive edge, boundary cornerback and offensive tackle.

They also go over why it would be very surprising to see the Bills address certain positions in the draft anytime before the mid-to-late rounds, those positions including running back, tight end, interior offensive line and safety.

Usually when the draft is this close there seems to be a bigger buzz with the Bills than what we've seen so far. In fact, at least to Patrick it's felt like a pretty low key offseason for the Bills despite making a handful of extremely notable additions like DJ Moore, Bradley Chubb and CJ Gardner Johnson.  The guys discuss why it kind of feels that way, perhaps in part because this draft prospect pool in itself in the later first round doesn't feel as buzzworthy as it usually does.

The Sabres needed to a victory over Tampa in regulation to keep a strong chance of winning the Atlantic Division on the table, and that's exactly what they did. The guys talk about another strong UPL performance, critically needed offensive production from Alex Tuch, Josh Norris and Jason Zucker as well as a third line defensive pairing that felt questionable before the game but got the job done.

Also, if the Sabres don't win the division would you rather face Tampa or Montreal in the first round if you're Buffalo? Patrick's surprised to arrive at Tampa but styles make fights and for a handful of reasons Buffalo simply matches up well against the Lightning.

Bills general manager spoke to the media on Monday and shortly thereafter made an appearance on Pat MacAfee.  There's plenty for the guys to react from among things Beane discussed, including the Bills officially exercising the fifth-year option on Dalton Kincaid's contract, ensuring the tight end will be here for at least two more years and with a guaranteed $8.1 million salary for 2027. Do the guys agree this move was a no brainer?

Also, even after trading for DJ Moore, Beane said that potentially taking a wide receiver in the first round of the draft with the 26th pick was still on the table. He also said that he's had conversations with free agent wide receiver Brandin Cooks but the team and Cooks will both likely to see how the draft for Buffalo and other teams fall before either makes a decision about him possibly coming back.

Beane also talked about cornerback Dorian Strong now in the recovery phrase of a neck surgery that has his playing future uncertain. That plus Beane's thoughts on a potential 18-game NFL season in the near future, where the guys are at right now when it comes to the draft and much more.

Just saying the Sabres are readying to embark on a playoff run is amazing given where this team was at in early December not to mention the previous 14 seasons. They're not exactly "struggling" either as the season winds down but in the interest of staying objective, there's a handful of things going on that could be concerning. Terrel Bernard is a starting off ball linebacker, dictated by the contract he signed before the 2025 season and enforced by the Bills lack of additions to the room so far this offseason. The potential is certainly there, as evidenced by his breakout 2023 campaign but the past few years have been filled with injuries and pedestrian production. Can Bernard be a good fit in this new Jim Leonhard defense? Brandon Beane is banking on it.

A first-round pick a year ago, Max Hairston's first season was hampered by two injuries, one that kept him from the field until almost the middle of the season and another that knocked him out of the playoffs. While it's not mathematically locked in yet, the Sabres are going to break their historic 14-year NHL playoff drought within the next few weeks. Buffalo currently leads Tampa in the Atlantic division (though Tampa has two games in hand) and are only one point back of Carolina for most points in the conference. Regardless if the Sabres win the conference and/or division or not, one thing Sabres fans have been saved from is the anxiety of a playoff spot race. Buffalo's torrid place has them a full tier above several other teams in the conference and that's a good thing of course, because the East is just a slop with a half dozen teams within three points of being in the playoffs or out entirely. Montreal, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Boston, New York Islanders and Columbus are all stacked near each other with points, not to mention Ottawa still having a fair shot at getting in as well.

The guys talk about while there's the pressure of trying to get a high seed and home ice advantage, at least they can enjoy the next few weeks without having to worry about making the playoffs.

Most wrestling fans know what the terms "getting the rub" and "go away heat" mean. Today's first part focuses primarily on what the Bills no longer have. Patrick has thoughts on the releases of Taylor Rapp, Curtis Samuel and Dane Jackson as well as a late round pick swap in the Taron Johnson trade, and while Johnson's time with Buffalo certainly looked like it was over when Sean McDermott was fired, Patrick hopes that history shows Taron as one of the better clutch players in this era of Bills football.

The Sabres have been the best team in the NHL over the past three-plus months, literally. They're best in the league in points, goals scored, goal differential, save percentage and percentage of time playing with a lead. It's seriously mind blowing. The guys talk about how this team has somehow been able to put together a prolonged stretch of Sabres hockey that has fans as excited about this team as they've been in at least the past 20 years.

Buffalo embarks on a four game western swing this week that could ultimately have serious ramifications on where they finish in the standings. The Sabres are (unofficially) locked into the playoff but with seven of their final 11 games at home, having a good road trip keeps them in serious play for winning the Atlantic division and perhaps even the Eastern conference.

When healthy, Chubb is a dynamic run defending edge with plenty of pass rushing juice. That said, he's torn both his ACLs throughout his eight year career and it continues a trend of Beane signing big named defenders with significant injury histories in his attempts to help get the Buffalo defense over the hump. The guys give their thoughts on the Chubb signing and if they think Beane did the right thing or is once again playing with fire.

Also, the Bills lack of moves to this point in a mostly dried up free agent market certainly gives indication that Buffalo plans on relying on young guys like Dorian Williams, Dorian Williams and Jordan Hancock to play a lot of very meaningful snaps for the defense this season.

Prefacing by saying this episode is being recorded the morning before a release---typically a big no-no during a busy week like the start of NFL free agency, Patrick has plenty to say about the Bills before leaving to travel. Among the topics is starting to realize that the Bills may be counting on some younger guys on defense to be factors more than fans are---a list that could include Dorian Williams, Jordan Hancock and TJ Sanders. Patrick also takes a look at what some of the receivers are getting in this year's open market and concludes that if he can stay healthy this time around, Palmer has the ability to become a nice bargain for the Bills this year as opposed to being resigned of having the same fate that Curtis Samuel just had previously.

On the hockey side, the Sabres just continue to roll over teams as they emphatically march towards ending their historic 14-year playoff drought. Tuch has played a big role in that. He never received the contract he was hoping for in the last year of his deal and that could've been a distraction for him in the team. Only it hasnt----Tuch has kept the business stuff away from his game and has been magnificent for the Sabres throughout the season.

At least as of late into Tuesday night, the Bills have only added cornerback Dee Alford and backup quarterback Kyle Allen to the roster externally with a market that's quickly drying up. Sure, they've already traded for DJ Moore, re-signed Connor McGovern and worked out a deal to keep Dawson Knox and that's meaningful of sure, but Patrick's already mighty frustrated at Brandon Beane seeming to be a little too content with personnel on the defensive side of the ball, at least so far.

One major name being connected to the Bills is edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. However, with the Max Crosby trade falling apart for Baltimore, Patrick thinks it's a formality that Baltimore ends up with Hendrickson, possibly even by the time you listen to this.

Meanwhile, the Sabres remain an absolute wagon as they defeated San Jose in front of an excited Key Bank Center crowd, improving to a perfect 8-0 since the Olympic break. That and plenty more today!

Prior to Monday's start of unofficial free agency the Bills had already pulled off a trade for wide receiver DJ Moore in addition to re-signing center Connor McGovern to a lucrative extension over the weekend. Therefore, it shouldn't be surprising that the Bills didn't make any kind of real splash on Monday. They did add Atlanta slot cornerback Dee Alford to the team as well as bringing back former quarterback (and Josh Allen buddy) Kyle Allen and re-signing punter Mitch Wishnowsky. Patrick has opinions on all three moves.

The Bills, as expected did lose some veterans to other teams on Monday. Patrick has thoughts on guard David Edwards going to the New Orleans Saints, Mitch Trubisky to the Tennesssee Titans and the New England Patriots poaching fullback Reggie Gilliam away, something that Patrick's admittedly bothered by.

NFL free agency, or at least the "legal tampering period" starts here on Monday and the Bills certainly got a decent amount of holes to fill on the roster. A less than ideal amount of cap room coupled with a plethora of needs both with starters and depth will force Beane and his staff to be at his best starting today and over the next few months. The guys discuss some of those roster holes the Bills have to work on and what some solutions may ultimately lead to being.

To say the immediate reaction among Bills fans, media and content creators is a mixed bag is an understatement, and Patrick thinks there's plenty to like about the move as well as a few things that certainly give him pause.

First and foremost, Moore immediately becomes the Bills best pass catching option in the intermediate to long yard situations and it's not close either. He comes to Buffalo with plenty of proven success as he turns 29 years old this week including four seasons of over 1,000 yards receiving. Two of those, by the way came with Bills head coach back when Brady was offensive coordinator in Carolina in 2020-21.  Also, while Moore may not be definition a "true No. 1" receiver, Patrick thinks more of his ability than had the Bills signed Romeo Doubs or Rashid Shaheed in free agency, who felt more like extensions of Curtis Samuel and Josh Palmer types.

However, this isn't a win for the Bills without some issues. Giving up a second-round pick for a guy who's had consecutive down years feels risky, not to mention the guaranteed money they're giving him that essentially makes his contract a three-year deal worth $74 million that's pretty much all guaranteed now. Also, there's at least a handful of clips out there that show Moore's effort when not being targeted has been less than stellar in the past.

That plus if Patrick feels this was the right deal to make, does Beane deserve praise or heat for this move and plenty more from the reaction department.

The vibes were immaculate at the Key Bank Center in Buffalo the other night before the Sabres took on Vegas as Tage Thompson was honored by the organization for helping the United States win a gold medal. The crowd gave him a thunderous applause (as well as Jack Eichel) and the electricity carried over into the game, as Tage scored a goal and Buffalo would hold on to beat Vegas to win their fourth in a row since coming back from the Olympic break.

The Sabres aren't slowing down and the league is noticing. More and more people are talking about the Sabres as not only a team poised to end their historic playoff drought but a team that can win multiple series in the playoffs. The guys talk about the team, the fans that have been yearning to have something to get behind again, trade rumors involving Buffalo and some prominent players around the league in advance of Friday's deadline and more.

On the football side, it appears Pierce can test the open market if he chooses. The Bills certainly have limitations, at least that's the way Brandon Beane portrays it again, but in football you can always take a big swing if you really want to. Should the Bills use that on Pierce---a guy who will surely get overpaid in the open market but still fits the Bills biggest offensive need like a glove?  Also, it looks like the Bills are set to lose both David Edwards and Connor McGovern in free agency---how worried should we be about the offensive line? Understandably so, the wide receiver position attracts the most attention among fans and the media. There's certainly a need to add to the position and Buffalo will, but there's plenty of room and need to add talent to several if not most other positions.

During the NFL Combine this week, Beane when speaking to the media described himself as being aggressive, sometimes even needing coworkers on the Bills staff to reel him back a little bit. Is that actually true? Is Beane really that aggressive? The guys dig into that and other than three instances since 2018 don't really agree with the Bills general manager.

Also, a recurring theme emerging this offseason (again) seems to be Beane and new Bills head coach Joe Brady jumping in to talk about how much Josh Allen's contract effects the Bills. While that is indisputably true, there's plenty of other Beane roster decisions with bad contracts and/or dead cap hits that could wreck havoc on their chances to get some of the things done they're hoping for.

There's definitely reasons we can see a Cooks reunion with the club in 2026 and Patrick admits the reasons to feel like it works are more than why it wouldn't. From the inexpensive cap hit to his track record, skill set in particular his ability to get open plenty for Buffalo last year and to having a "lesser than" role in the wide receiver room going forward, there's plenty of justification on bringing him back.

But Patrick lands on no and it's for one reason but a big one----you simply can't trust him. Cooks had major issues during his short time with Buffalo holding onto the football and completing catches, a major reason he had just 10 completions in 22 targets with the Bills. While you can say he'd be a bottom of the depth chart player and that seems harmless, the reality is when you're on the depth chart you're going to see the field, especially at wide receiver. When Cooks runs routes he tends to get open which means he'll get the football and that's where the problem lies--Patrick simply thinks you can't trust him to make the big play that could determine the outcome of a game or as we saw in the playoffs, literally the season.  For that reason alone Patrick thinks it's a bad idea to bring him back.

Also, the Jets and Titans made a straight player for player trade on Thursday that got Patrick thinking of four current Bills players he could see as candidates for something similar happening. That and much more.

The Sabres haven't made the NHL playoffs in 14 years. They're desperately trying to make that not reach 15 years. Buffalo returns to action on Wednesday night in New Jersey following the Olympic break and they do so with a five point advantage in the Eastern conference wild card race, with just two points between them and Montreal and Detroit in the Atlantic division.  Nothing's been accomplished yet but opportunity definitely knocks. The guys discuss the Sabres performance through this point of the season and the dramatic turnaround that has rightfully has fans finally excited about this team again.

That's expected to change literally any day now, so Patrick and Joe go over a lengthy list of things they predict will happen, including each going over their boldest Bills offseason prediction.

In this mock Patrick explains while not happy about it, goodbyes need to happen to David Edwards and Dawson Knox. In terms of the receiving room Patrick thinks it's time for the bigger possession type of receivers need to end and bring back to the Stefon Diggs, John Brown, Cole Beasley type of pass catchers Josh Allen has historically worked best.  Of course that means change and Patrick uses a significant free agent resource on receiver in addition to his first pick in the draft.

On the defensive side of the ball, no "huge names" are added but with Jim Leonhard taking over the defense, Patrick finds not one, not two but three Denver Broncos free agents into the fold in addition to another defensive heavy draft. It's necessary because there's a huge personnel turnover on this side of the ball.

The Bills wide receiver outside of Khalil Shakir stinks. That's not particularly a nice thing to say nor is fun to think about, but those are the facts. Curtis Samuel could get cut by the time you read this and the rest of the room is filled with guys they're either stuck with and/or uncertain about. Needless to say, there's going to multiple new players in that room in 20206.

The guys discuss several of them, starting with free agents such as Alec Pierce, Rasheed Shaheed, Mike Evans, Jauan Jennings, Romeo Doubs and Deebo Samuel (yes I know, ugh). Perhaps acquiring one via trade is the correct path despite the additional compensatory cost. Guys such as AJ Brown, Brian Thomas Jr, Chris Olave, Michael Wilson and DJ Moore are all discussed.

Of course, the draft is often the best place to go picking because of cost and team controlled contracts. They discuss a solid handful of the top receiver draft prospects. That plus Tyreek Hill is not a free agent, other receivers may get cut and become available soon enough and much more.

Winds of change are definitely coming for the Bills, fresh off the firing of Sean McDermott and subsequent promotion of Joe Brady, with Brandon Beane clearly feeling the heat to orchestrate a roster capable of getting over the playoff wall owner Terry Pegula recently spoke of. For starters the Bills have 20 pending unrestricted free agents with many of them on the defensive side of the ball. The guys go over each player and discuss whether there should/will be an interest in bringing them back, as it quickly becomes apparent there's going to be a pretty significant roster overhaul coming our way.

They also discuss the level of aggressiveness Beane needs to have this offseason, unless of course it's going to turn into another Terry Pegula and Kevyn Adams situation where perhaps the GM seat isn't nearly as hot as most of us think it should be.

Turning over the to the Sabres side, the guys discuss Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin on a collision course to face each other in the knockout round at the Olympics, with Patrick openly admitting he cares about them staying healthy a lot more than what nation wins Olympic gold. That's because the Sabres return on February 25th with 25 games to go and a five point lead in the Eastern conference wild card race. The guys talk about their daunting schedule upon their return, what moves the Sabres may make before the March 6 trade deadline, are they prepared to let Alex Tuch simply become a rental type of player and much more.

This weekend was Valentine's Day so naturally Joe, an unapologetic (or simply in denial) cynic was inspired by the holiday and recent Bills loss to remember the biggest heartbreak the franchise has ever had. They discuss some of the best known debacles like wide right, 13 seconds, music city miracle, this year's Brandin Cooks' no catch and Jim Kelly's sad ending to a Hall of Fame career. But Joe has others in the tank that may make you grimace in pain.

Also, significant sports media news in the Buffalo market dropped this past week as Tim Graham and Brad Riter were announced to at least temporarily hold the 1-3pm slot on WGR 550. The guys got plenty of opinions on that and if they think it will eventually turn into a regular thing.

Kimble recently won the Connolly Cup, given to Western New York's top high school football player and in doing so became the first player ever from Canisius to win in the 53-year history of the award. He's also the first player from any school ever to be a finalist for the award in each of his first three seasons.

His stats at Canisius have been mind blowing, he's ran for 5,325 yards already through three years, the most all-time in Monsignor Martin Association history and he's fourth all-time in Western New York with a still a full season left to play, just 1,234 from the top spot.

Kimble isn't just some high school phenom, he' literally the most highly recruited running back to ever come out of Western New York. He's already received north of 35 major D1 offers and recently narrowed his list down to a final 10, a group that includes Ohio State, Michigan, Indian, Miami, Florida, Washington, Kansas and Syracuse.

Perhaps most impressively, he's an absolute humble and class act student athlete and young man. Patrick has a thorough discussion about his life, career to this point, goals and much, much more.

Thad has been on TV working in WROC in Rochester for over 25 more years, most of it in sports and of course covering the Bills. It's Thad's first time back on this podcast since 2019 and Patrick asks him a few Bill and sports media questions to get the conversation going before they dive into Bills talk.

First they start with four things that definitely went very well for Buffalo over this past season, including James Cook taking a leap from pretty damn good running to back to NFL's leading rusher, an influx of strong contributions from "old" guys on the defense they probably weren't counting on for much, Cole Bishop's big leap in year two and a ton of flashed potential from rookie defensive tackle Deone Walker.

Of course, turnabout is fair play and they also discuss four things that went terribly wrong for Buffalo this season. That includes them being a turnover machine compared to 2024, a wide receiver room that was mostly a disaster, big ticket defensive lineman no showing the playoffs and now former head coach Sean McDermott pushing the wrong buttons again at crucial points of a playoff elimination game.

One of the biggest sentiments and criticisms around Brady as an offensive coordinator has been his inability to have receivers play a consistently prominent role in in the passing game, especially on deeps plays down the field. Patrick elaborates why the late season addition of Cooks proved that theory wrong, as Cooks was schemed (wide) open down the field plenty, he simply rarely made the play, including of course the Denver overtime nightmare. It has Patrick finally on the "wide receiver" train that others have been on for quite some time.

Also, who are a few of the guys the Bills could target this offseason? AJ Brown is widely speculated and Patrick's been talking about Brian Thomas Jr for several months, but how about Tyreek Hill? Someone in the Podbag even brings up Tee Higgins.

One thing that seems certain, at least to Patrick is that Keon Coleman is never going to be that guy, so he explains why he'd trade him now.  That plus Joey Bosa is likely done in Buffalo, a pessimist Bills fan chimes in and a Sabres fan (think he's a fan?) warns to not get carried away with the team until they win a playoff game.

Leonhard help court with the media for an extended period on Thursday and definitely had a few sound bytes as some of his core principles were being discussed, including being aggressive but also being aggressive without it becoming reckless. Leonhard also went on about he's been his best coaching guys who don't fit into a specific box or role and can be versatile on his defense.

Patrick came away from the scrum extremely impressed and shares why, including the contrasting styles between Leonhard and McDermott that led to a Floyd Mayweather versus Thomas Hearns boxing analogy.

All season long the guys have gotten together to discuss the Bills previous game position by position with Matt assigning a grade for each. Obviously there's no more games to break down in that style so this is being turned into a season long evaluation of each position---the good, bad and ugly.

Some positions certainly turned out to be pleasant surprises. For example who suspected the tight end room would be one of the biggest strengths on the team even with Dalton Kincaid missing time? Or how about Tre White holding down the cornerback spot alongside Christian Benford all season not just admirably (not admiral) but straight up excellent?

It wasn't all good though. The defensive line's play was marred by two key injuries, other nagging injuries and a lot of inconsistent play outside of Greg Rousseau. Of course, perhaps the most intriguing position to discuss is quarterback. By almost any other QB's standard Allen had a stellar season, but coming off his MVP campaign of a year ago, will Matt grade him with a curve? All that and tons more.

The Bills have been a perennial contender in the AFC since 2019, reaching two conference championship games during that span. But continuing to hit the "proverbial playoff wall" that owner Terry Pegula discussed led to the firing of longtime head coach Sean McDermott and while it hasn't been publicly stated, puts enormous pressure on Beane to make moves this offseason that's going to help them get over the hump because with McDermott gone, failure will (rightfully) fall squarely on Beane going forward.

To that point Patrick comes up with five questions that Beane's surely asking himself right now and getting ready to make tough decisions on. Among them is if there's truly a place on the 2026 roster for Keon Coleman that is anything but a negative, who among the offensive line depth is ready to step up and become starters with the probability that at least one if not two incumbent starters will leave for free agency, does Brady lean on Beane to pull of a trade for an alpha WR No. 1 and did Dawson Knox play himself into another year with the club?

Switching over to the defense, the Bills have a slew of pending free agents. Joe Brady was promoted to head coach following a search on the heels of Sean McDermott's firing, but that hardly means it's simply status quo for the Buffalo Bills. Most of Brady's coaching staff will be new to the team and that includes Leonhart, who was highly coveted and also drew strong interest from Baltimore and the Los Angeles Chargers. Anthony shares his opinions of the Bills decision to move on from McDermott, land on Brady and then add Leonhard to run their defense.

It was a big moment for the direction and future of the franchise with the appointment/promotion of Brady and the press conference had a big moment feel. Brady didn't try to hide it either as he was overcome with emotion during his speech almost instantly, having trouble at times getting out words before he settled into the Q&A portion of the presser, asking a bunch of questions alongside general manager Brandon Beane from the media.

Patrick goes over some of the more memorable highlights and quotes from the presser before getting into a handful of things he liked most and a few items he certainly could have done without.

The Sabres went on the road in Toronto on Tuesday night and smacked the Maple Leafs, 7-4 to win for the 19th time in their last 22 games. If Buffalo hasn't been playing well enough up front, defensemen Rasmus Dahlin netted a hat trick while the incredible transformation of Mattias Samuelsson continued with his racking up three assists. Joe was in Toronto with the team for the game and discusses what the vibe was like the in the arena and in the Buffalo locker room after that.

A team that looked absolutely locked into a 15th straight year of the postseason drought finds themselves with an incredible opportunity to finally end it. Joe gets into several of the things he's seen and we've all seen that have made this possible---including a night and day transformation since Keyvn Adams got fired.

They also spend some time talking Bills and Joe, a noted "Bills watcher" and not fan has some observations on the Bills decision to fire Sean McDermott and ultimately promote Joe Brady to head coach. That and a whole lot more!

Some thought the Bills may take their time with this hire  considering it was regarded as the most attractive job available, perhaps even waiting to speak to Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak after the Super Bowl. But whether it was fear of losing Brady to him taking another job or him really being their guy all along, he's the 21st head coach now in franchise history.

One thing's for certain----fans don't like the move. Joe Buscaglia from The Athletic put up a poll and nearly three quarters of all fans who voted, well over 13,000 in the first hour said they didn't like the move. Patrick shares a few other hilarious (or maybe not funny to some) social media reactions from content creators and fans.

Patrick has plenty of thoughts on the move while prefacing that he's remaining someone guarded with "hot takes" for the moment after the Sean McDermott rage last week. After coming to Buffalo in 2018 to cover the Sabres, Lance made the pivot this summer over to the Bills beat. He spends some time talking about the adjustments, of which there were many and getting acclimated to covering a different professional sport, something he's actually done prior to coming to Buffalo.

As of Sunday night the Bills have interviewed several candidates for the vacant head coaching position with more interviews likely coming in the days ahead before ultimately making a decision. Brian Daboll, Joe Brady, Anthony Weaver, Grant Udinski, Anthony Lynn and Philip Rivers have already received interviews and guys like Klint Kubiak and Davis Webb could potentially become part of the mix. The guys go over who they would like, and not like to see as Bills next coach.

Also, the Sabres just continue to be on a bender, steamrolling the Islanders on Saturday to win for the 18th time in their last 21 games. The guys discuss their incredible in-season turnaround that literally started with news that general manager Kevyn Adams would be fired. It's been a mess at One Bills Drive since Monday morning when the Bills fired Sean McDermott. From the icy statement towards McDermott with the inexcusable "admiral" typo to radio silence from the team and social media for well over 24 hours before giving McDermott the respect and proper sendoff he deserved. Of course that was nothing compared to the bizzaro press conference on Wednesday with Terry Pegula and Brandon Beane that left many locals shaking their heads and the national media bashing the organization.  However, while the messaging sent out by the team this week was amateurish if not bush league, the move itself was perfectly justifiable if not already overdue. There's a very reasonable case that McDermott deserved the fate he got.

One of the best long form and feature story sports writers in the business, Tyler has been on the Bills peaks and valleys with McDermott regularly for the past several years. A polarizing figure among BillsMafia because of several Bills articles, one 2023 series specifically on McDermott, Tyler rightfully stands by everything he's written and while a lot of fans and especially a lot of the ardent McDermott supports don't like it, it's hard to argue that a lot of what Dunne's been saying and has said isn't right.

Tyler goes over a handful of reasons that despite this week's blunders in message handling, that it was the right time to move into a new direction and that the move shouldn't really be as shocking as many have made it out to be. A season-ending press conference featuring Beane would be anticipated in any season. The fact former head coach Sean McDermott was fired on Monday definitely heightened it, and Pegula speaking and taking questions for the first time in years instantly made it must see. What we saw felt like a blend of honestly, contradicting statements and a few shocking moments. Tim was at the presser covering it for The Athletic and Patrick grills him for with a ton of questions on several statements said.

Pegula says his decision to fire McDermott was based on Saturday's loss in Denver and the reaction in the locker room, but soon after accused the officials of making a "bad call" that cost them the game. Beane also took offense, great offense to questions about making a powerplay to keep his job and about his character----a charged response.

Perhaps the most shocking part of the presser was Beane, when asked discussing some of the challenges with draft picks that haven't worked out when Pegula interrupted to publicly say that the Keon Coleman pick was not Brandon Beane's choice but Beane was being a "team player." The craziness around the McDermott firing and Beane staying almost makes you forget about the game in Denver Saturday that possibly led to it. Not the case for Patrick and Matt though. The prevailing sentiment following the Bills latest disappointing exit from the playoffs was that both McDermott and Brandon Beane would likely be safe, with Beane probably the more likely to get fired if owner Terry Pegula pulled the trigger on the move. However, turns out it was McDermott getting fired with Beane not only keeping his job, but getting a promotion along the way. Patrick and Bruce have a ton of thoughts on this franchise altering development.

Patrick also expresses disbelief and annoyance at how poorly the Bills seem to have read the room with this McDermott firing/Beane promotion move----from the reaction of (most) fans defending McDermott, the outpouring of public shock and unhappiness of several players to the official press release that literally had a notable typo in the beginning and felt pretty chilly towards McDermott, saying he did an "admiral" job.

The Bills fell on the wrong side of history in depressing fashion, becoming the first team in NFL history to be eliminated from the playoffs three consecutive seasons by three points or less. This time a lot of the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of Josh Allen, who uncharacteristically played awful. Allen turned the ball over four times and three of them were his fault. He also missed some very makable throws, including a ball to Dawson Knox on the Bills last offensive snap of regulation that would've won the game. The guys discuss how disappointing it is for someone as talented and valuable as Josh to play so poorly.

Officiating was clearly at the forefront of this one too. The guys discuss whether they think Brandin Cooks should've been ruled as having caught the ball and a few other terrible calls that went against the Bills.

They also discuss several other factors that Patrick feel serves as indictments against both Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane. Will it lead to any changes?

After knocking off Jacksonville last weekend, the Bills take to the road again trying to advance to the conference championship. To do that they'll have overcome many things, none so more than injuries that'll keep a few important players out and others are far less than 100%. Denver is fresh off a bye earned by being the top seed and there's several things Bills fans should be worried about with them. However, there's also areas of the team that can be exploited, as Patrick gives his lowdown on each team.

From there it's Patrick's four biggest keys to the Bills finding a way to come out on top, none so more important, as usual than not losing the turnover battle. After last week the Bills remained undefeated when not losing the turnover battle. Also, having early down success and weathering the storm will be huge keys.

Five bold predictions is always fun, at least it is when the Bills win and Patrick is right. Among his today is a successful return for Curtis Samuel, who's been a huge bust this season. Also, can Taron Johnson make us forget about a forgettable season with one big fourth quarter play? Patrick seems to think so.

Of course, it all ends with a prediction for the game and we'll save the suspense here---Patrick's picking the Bills and tells everyone the biggest reasons why. I feel like you can probably guess the biggest one.

Allbright is one of the most respected football insider and analysts in the industry and has been kind enough to appear on Talking Buffalo periodically dating all the back to 2018. Linebacker, cornerback and tight end (as almost always) stood out in a good way for Buffalo in their three point win over Jacksonville as Matt breaks down the team position by position.

While prefacing that saying the Bills have no excuses and a very fair chance to go to Denver and knock off the top seeded Broncos on Saturday, there's definitely some factors working against them. Patrick and Matt hit on a handful of them, ranging from short rest to a ridiculous difference between when practice squad elevations are due and the roster being set because the Bills are playing at 4:30pm Saturday  instead of 8:00pm. That plus a boatload of injuries that could end up coming to the wire.

Of course, Josh Allen is the primary reason the Bills are living to fight for another week and Jay has plenty of first hand accounts of what he seen from covering the game in Denver. However, while Josh did the heavy lifting on the offensive side, plenty of "aging" veterans saved the day defensively to keep the Bills in the game while the offense was floundering a little. Jay has thoughts on guys like Shaq Thompson, Tre White and Matt Milano rising up when the unit absolutely needed it most.

Things weren't always easy for Allen and the Bills offense, including physically with Josh taking a beating. It wasn't made easier by James Cook being held to 46 yards on the ground by the league's best run defense. But when the Bills absolutely had to have it, Allen was pretty much flawless in leading the Bills to touchdowns on their last two possessions. The guys discuss a gutsy performance from the reigning MVP, who fair or not has all the pressure of the world on his shoulders to carry this team over the hump. Can the Bills winning like this be sustainable for the next two or three games?

Defensively the Bills started out great, fell apart for a while but again, when they absolutely had to have it, Tre White made a great play to deflect a pass that Cole Bishop intercepted to seal the game. The guys discuss their effort both good and bad, led by an incredible afternoon from White.

They also discuss some unsung heroes from the game, including Khalil Shakir and Matt Prater. That plus the Bills will have to overcome even more injuries, find a way to be better stopping the run and get their own run game going next week if they want a crack at the AFC championship the following week. Truth be told, this doesn't feel like an ideal situation for either team in the first round of the playoffs. The Bills absolutely cant win in Jacksonville, yet Patrick (and surely most Bills fans and media) aren't brimming with confidence about the matchup either. Conversely, the exact same can be said for the Jacksonville faithful. Sure, winning the AFC South and getting the home field advantage for at least one game is great---but honestly does anyone who roots for Jacksonville really think this is the matchup they preferred, especially so early?

But it is what it is and this should be a very good game. Patrick lays out what he thinks are three of the biggest keys to the Bills advancing to the next round, including referencing a pair of stats that support them being almost unbeatable when they happen.

He also has his weekly five bold predictions for the game, including Parker Washington giving the Bills defense all they can want and more in the passing game as well as Matt Milano coming up big for the Buffalo defense.  Lastly, a prediction for the game and Patrick admits he's spent most the week truly not knowing who he thinks is going to win the game before waking up Thursday morning with a little clarity on why Buffalo will come out on top, at least he thinks so.

The Bills absolutely dominated the Jets from the start of what's likely the last ever game at Highmark Stadium. While the Bills deserve plenty of credit for the effort it was also obvious the Jets looked like a team running for the bus. The guys talk about some of the takeaways from the game, including Dalton Kincaid looking impressive in his brief return to action, a nice afternoon for Mitch Trubisky in the passing game and a complete defensive shutdown of the hapless Jets.

It wasn't all roses for the Bills on Sunday though---kicker Matt Prater reaggravated a quad injury and Bills general manager Brandon Beane will be scrambling for a kicker this week before the playoffs.

Speaking of, the attention shifts to Jacksonville, who is steamrolling into the playoffs on the strength of an eight-game winning streak and nine of their last 10.

The guys also react to a lot of what they say today from both fans and the media with the Highmark Stadium finale. Was the emotion completely justified or perhaps a bit over the top? Can it difficult to balance incredible memories inside the stadium and only having to move across the street as opposed to if the team was relocating to another city or even different part of town? Happy New Year everyone! It's not that Patrick is either afraid of the Bills facing any particular opponent in the playoffs this year nor is he overconfident against anyone either, he just doesn't think there's a major advantage or disadvantage to facing one specific team. Patrick goes over each of the possibilities and why it could be a good---or bad match up for the Bills.  It also wouldn't be the least surprising if the Bills come out of the AFC and get to their first Super Bowl of this current regime, nor would it be the least bit shocking if they lost by two scores to anyone in the first round. Patrick feels that may be true this year more than any of the past six.

Also, the tradition of leading the charge for a former Bills alumni comes to an end along with the stadium. Patrick posed the question of who should be leading the charge on Twitter earlier this week and got some great (if not predictable) answers. He also then asked for wrong answers only and there were doozies. He shares those and plenty more.

After wasting a strong bell to bell defensive effort because an offense that couldn’t get out of it’s own way until the final five minutes, Buffalo scored two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter. However, Michael Badgley missing the first extra point led to head coach Sean McDermott deciding to go for two points and the win after Josh Allen scored with five seconds left, a decision surely rooted in not trusting Badgley to make the extra point to send it to overtime. The play was there to be made, Allen missed the throw (badly) and Buffalo suffered its fifth loss.

A lot of Bills fans put the loss primarily on offensive coordinator Joe Brady, including PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective on the live show here yesterday. Patrick vehemently disagrees though, especially after watching the game back and points out several instances why he thinks it’s primarily the fault of the franchise QB and reigning MVP.

The tape shows that he didn’t much help from his offensive line either and Patrick points out two guys specifically who really struggled. PS: Josh Allen has now been sacked a career-high 40 times.

The other side of the ball was incredible for Buffalo, and Patrick goes over a handful of stand outs and why it’s perhaps the Bills biggest silver lining from this game.

That plus what the Bills may do in their Highmark Stadium finale against the Jets, who they may prefer to see in the wild card round and much more.

The Bills defense did absolutely everything possible to keep Buffalo in the game on a day where the offense, for the most stunk. The defense held Jalen Hurts without a completion and just 17 total yards as a team in the second half as the offense finally caught up to erase a 13 point deficit in the fourth quarter. However, after an Allen touchdown with five seconds left and the decision to go for two, Allen badly missed on a wide open Khalil Shakir for what would've been an incredible comeback victory and keep their division title hopes alive. The guys talk about if it was the right decision to go for two and the overall play for Josh, who was----not good.

There were a few positive things to take away from the game, including Brandin Cook stepping up at wide receiver and an entire defensive unit that was mostly lights out.

The Bills will very likely end up the sixth or seventh seed going into the playoffs. The guys discuss potential scenarios and much more.

The Bills have already clinched a playoff spot but there's still plenty to play for, at least potentially against Philadelphia this week. For starters, winning this game along with the home finale against the New York Jets next week guarantees Buffalo no worse than the five seed and a likely first round playoff matchup at Pittsburgh. Additionally, it at least gives Buffalo a fighting chance to still win the division going into Week 18. Patrick goes over a handful of scenarios and how he thinks head coach Sean McDermott will handle the roster over these last two games.

Clean and pretty are not adjectives that would describe Buffalo's performance against the three-win Browns on the road this past Sunday. What matters most of course is that Buffalo found a way to win anyway, 23-20 and keep alive their hopes of a AFC east divisional title. The guys go through the game not so much in recap style but instead positionally, talking about what they liked and didn't before Matt ultimately assigns his weekly grade for each unit.

They also spend some time talking about a Philadelphia Eagles team coming to Orchard Park this Sunday that gets two key starters back from injury and while they're not quite the juggernaut they were last year in winning the Super Bowl right now, they're still a super talented and formidable foe the Bills will need to beat if they have any divisional title aspirations going into the final week.

It's shaping up to be a potential wild final two weeks not only for the Bills but for the entire AFC, as the seeding could end up playing out a number of ways. Buffalo's currently the sixth seed going into Week 17. They still have a shot to win the AFC east and host at least one home game if not more and they could realistically fall to the seventh seed. Patrick and Chris go overall the possibilities and potential opponents, figuring out who they think Buffalo matches up the best against and which games put them in most danger of being one and done.

They also go over all their biggest takeaways after having a full day to digest the Bills too close for comfort road victory in Cleveland over the Browns.

Also, the Buffalo Sabres are on absolute fire right now, running off six wins in a row to get themselves back in a playoff conversation. Of course this also comes on the heels of major organizational change and Chris has plenty to say about that and much more.

The Buffalo defense did it usually sleepwalking through the start of the game as Cleveland scored a touchdown on their first drive, but Buffalo seemingly took control with touchdowns on their first three possessions. However, they scored just three points on their last six full drives and got a few great plays from the defense--and a few lucky breaks along the way to preserve the win.  Patrick and Steve have tons of reaction from this slopfest both good and bad.

Among the biggest subjects discussed is Greg Rousseau finally carrying the defense on their back when they needed it most in addition to Matt Milano, Jordan Poyer and Tre White continuing to turn back the clock. Meanwhile on the other side of the ball, Josh Allen did some good things but also a few untimely bad throws and certainly wasn't helped by inexcusable drops from Brandin Cooks and Dawson Knox. The guys have thoughts on this and other team matters.

They also spend some time talking about the surging Buffalo Sabres, who faced off in New Jersey Sunday night for their sixth win in a row, the longest winning streak in the NHL. In doing so they're building optimism that the team can turn things around and get back into contention. That and plenty more.

The Buffalo Bills are 10-4. They're a good football team. The Cleveland Browns are 3-11. They're not a good football team. Patrick spends time discussing both teams and realizes the Browns have a good enough defense, led by the best playmaker if not player in the league to make it worrisome for a Buffalo team that's been spotty on the road all season long.

That leads to Patrick's three Buffalo keys, which includes a strong commitment to not letting the Browns shorten the game on the ground. From there it's five bold predictions and one includes getting a budding All-Pro into the end zone for a touchdown. There wasn't much abnormal about the Bills performance this past Sunday in Foxboro against the New England Patriots. They gave up at least 31 points, which of course Buffalo won seeing they're now 4-0 this season when giving up at least 31 points. Matt and Patrick talk about some of the things the Bills did as a team that for the time being anyway kept alive Buffalo's hopes of a sixth consecutive divisional title.

In terms of their weekly positional analysis it pretty much has read like it has most the season, with Buffalo excelling at quarterback, running back and tight end on the offense side with the defense yet again being a complete mixed bag. Old vets like Tre White and Matt Milano really stepped up in this game, which helped overcome other veterans like Shaq Thompson and Larry Ogunjobi having mostly lousy outings. The guys talk about it and Matt, as usual assigns a grade for each position.

They also take a look at the Browns, who have a very bad record and are pretty void of talent, but have some playmakers on defense and none so more than Myles Garrett, who can literally break the all-time NFL single season sack record this Sunday against the Bills. That and plenty more.
