Startin' Some Ripples

Startin' Some Ripples is the podcast that turns real stories into powerful life lessons. Hosted by Heather N. Wilde—author, educator, indie publisher, and trauma survivor—this is a space where authenticity and connection thrive. Heather’s journey, chronicled in her memoir "Tumbled," proves that tough experiences, self-reflection, and a little grit can lead to profound growth.

Each episode invites cohosts to share their stories or those submitted by listeners, uncovering practical tips for building a more enjoyable life. Together, we’ll celebrate victories, unpack challenges, and connect through the common threads of human experience. It’s a safe, supportive space where vulnerability becomes strength, and shared life lessons spark ripples of change.

Whether diving into a listener’s story, exploring personal growth, or just having a heartfelt conversation, Startin’ Some Ripples is here to inspire, uplift, and remind you that life’s greatest teacher is experience itself. Let’s make waves together!

When Girls Believe They Belong: A Conversation with Sarah Jakle

Among many other topics, we explore:

The Moment It All Changed: How Sarah’s autoimmune diagnosis shifted her path and ultimately led her to build something transformative.

Why High School Matters: The powerful statistic that shows high school is the last time girls and boys equally believe they can run for office (and what happens after!)

From Trauma to Leadership: How understanding both “Big T” and “little t” trauma became foundational in preparing girls for real-world challenges.

Building Resilient Leaders: Why nervous system regulation, self-compassion, and emotional awareness are just as important as public speaking and policy skills.

The Inner Best Friend: A simple yet powerful tool that helps girls move through self-doubt, fear, and imposter syndrome.

Redefining Success: From running for office to simply finding the courage to speak up, and why every step toward using your voice matters.

Creating Safe, Brave Spaces: How environments rooted in unconditional support can transform how young women see themselves.

Paid to Grow: Why offering stipends isn’t just practical, it’s a statement that girls’ time, energy, and growth have real value.

Scarcity vs. Abundance: How traditional systems condition competition and how DemocraShe is rewriting that narrative through collaboration and support.

Joy as Resistance: Why choosing joy, beauty, and self-expression isn’t naive, it’s necessary for sustainable change.

Confidence + Compassion: What becomes possible when we allow both to coexist, and how that balance can reshape leadership across all spaces.

This conversation is a reminder that change doesn’t start “out there”. It starts within. In how we speak to ourselves. In how we honor our nervous systems. In how we choose, moment by moment, to believe we belong.

Because when girls are given the tools, the space, and the support to rise… they don’t just change their own lives.

They change everything.

      <itunes:duration>00:43:14</itunes:duration>
<itunes:summary>In this episode, I’m joined by social worker, policy advocate, and founder of DemocraShe, Sarah Jakle, for a conversation that feels both deeply grounding and powerfully activating. From her early work supporting unhoused communities and studying trauma, to navigating her own life-altering autoimmune diagnosis, Sarah shares the personal and professional experiences that led her to reimagine what leadership development could look like for young women.
What began as a passion for advocacy evolved into a bold, necessary mission: equipping high school girls with both the practical skills and emotional resilience to step into civic spaces with confidence, compassion, and a deep sense of belonging. Through DemocraShe, Sarah is not just preparing girls to lead, she’s helping them believe they deserve to.
Together, we explore what it means to nurture the nervous system, reclaim your voice, and create environments where young women are seen, heard, and truly valued.

<itunes:summary>In this episode, I’m joined by multi-passionate entrepreneur, hypnotherapist, and intuitive business mentor Maris Saar for a conversation that feels both expansive and deeply personal. From growing up in Estonia with a relentless drive to learn and achieve, to building a life that blends neuroscience, healing, and entrepreneurship, Maris shares the winding path that led her to helping others reconnect with their true selves.
What began as a simple connection in an online group turned into a powerful coaching relationship. A relationship that challenged me, stretched me, and ultimately helped me rediscover joy, trust, and alignment in both my life and my work.
Together, we talk about what it really means to peel back the layers, listen to your nervous system, and build a life (and business!) that feels like you.

<itunes:summary>In this episode, I’m joined by writer, producer, and visionary creative Deborah Weed for a conversation that feels equal parts magical and deeply transformative. Deborah is the heart behind Paisley the Musical and founder of the Self-Worth Initiative, a movement rooted in helping people reclaim their voice, their value, and their power.
From directing multi-million-dollar corporate projects to spending three years bedridden from a life-threatening misdiagnosis, Deborah shares the pivotal moments that reshaped her understanding of self-esteem versus self-worth. What began with a single copper penny became a mission: to help children (and the adults who love them) understand that their value isn’t determined by perfection, performance, or outside validation.
Together, we explore the courage it takes to stop giving your power away “quill by quill” and what it means to step back into your authentic voice.

<itunes:summary>In this episode, I’m thrilled to be joined by storyteller, advocate, and Hezzie Mae author Bella Tousignant for a conversation that’s as courageous as it is deeply human. Bella opens the door to her memoir, The Uninvited Passenger—a book that spans six decades of carrying, and finally embracing, her truth as a transgender woman. From a childhood in the 1950s to navigating marriage, secrecy, and ultimately transitioning later in life, Bella’s story is one of resilience, honesty, and the radical power of choosing yourself.

We dig into what it truly means to carry an “uninvited passenger” for most of your life, and the liberation and joy that come when you finally stop hiding. I’m so proud to know Bella and to help bring her voice to the world.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In this episode, I sit down with my dear friend Jen Fox—an entrepreneur, a community builder, and honestly, the kind of woman who doesn’t just talk about it, she shows up. We get real about what it takes to lead from the heart, to stay grounded in your values, and to keep pushing forward when the outcome isn’t what you prayed for.

Jen opens up about the firecracker grandmother who lit her up with a passion for advocacy and inclusion—and how that legacy now lives on in her family’s brewery, Spiral, where they’re not just pouring beer, they’re pouring community.

This conversation is about heart, grit, and the messy, beautiful work of showing up anyway.</itunes:summary>

Sam Nelson returns to the podcast to discuss her personal journey as a neurodiversity advocate. She opens up about receiving her own ADHD diagnosis a little over two years ago and how she and her family had to navigate their own unique ADHD-related circumstances. Sam also discusses her new brand, "Neurodivergent Not Broken," which she created to share her experiences and build a community where people can feel supported and less alone.

Among many other topics, we explore:

A Family's Journey: Sam shares that just two years ago, she received her own diagnosis, which led to clarity and the realization that all four members of her family are in different neurodivergent categories. This prompted her to become an advocate and share her story.

The Lack of Support: Sam describes how, after her diagnosis, medical professionals provided very little follow-up support beyond a sheet of paper with recommended books. She had to pursue an understanding of neurodivergence by herself.

Accommodations and New Understandings: Sam outlines five accommodations her family has made since the diagnosis to create a smoother home life. These include allowing for quiet downtime after work and school, implementing sensory accommodations, letting go of expectations around family meals, and a few more!

The "Neurodivergent Not Broken" Brand: Inspired by her and her husband's experiences, Sam has started a brand called "Neurodivergent Not Broken" that aims to offer help and support to others and create a community with more compassion, grace, and less shame.

Join us for an inspiring and empowering episode about understanding how your brain works, finding new ways to support your family, and being courageous enough to share your story to help others.

Connect with Sam!

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/neurodivergentnotbroken

Substack: https://substack.com/@neurodivergentnotbroken

Hustle & Heart Salon:https://hustleandheartsalon.com/

Floyd’s Baller: A Hood Philosopher With a Story the World Needs

In this episode, I’m joined by Adarryl Hunter, a lifelong friend of George Floyd. We announce our joint project, a book titled Floyd's Baller, set to be released in February 2026, which is Black History Month. The book aims to serve as a resource for schools and is designed to teach and engage students on important life themes. We’ll talk about Adarryl (and his nickname “Baller”), his friendship with George Floyd, and this book’s inception.

Among many other topics, we explore:

Becoming a “Hood Philosopher”: Adarryl says he gained many of his people skills from Floyd, while Floyd saw Adarryl as a "hood philosopher" who could provide perspective on life.

The Reluctance to Tell a Story: After Floyd's murder, Adarryl was hesitant to share his story, not wanting to appear to be capitalizing on his friend's death.

A Creative Collaboration with a Spiritual Twist: Adarryl recounts that Floyd used to refer to himself as Morpheus from The Matrix and Adarryl as Neo, which provides a fitting metaphor for George's role in telling the story.

More Than a Story, It’s a Gumbo: The collaboration itself is a testament to this message, as a Black man and a white woman from the Midwest come together for a common purpose - a “gumbo” of perspectives, if you will.

A Shared Purpose: The project’s timeline, delayed for several months, now seems perfectly aligned with the current political climate and educational needs. Both of us are fully invested in this project, believing it's not about achieving specific results but about sharing an authentic, loving story with the world.

In this episode, I’m joined once again by illustrator, designer, and creative scholar Chani Becker, who returns to share one of her favorite fairytales: Tatterhood. Chani guides us through a vivid retelling of this lesser-known Norwegian folktale and invites us to explore its powerful psychological symbolism through a Jungian lens.

As part of her MFA thesis in Illustration, Chani used Tatterhood as a springboard for a deeper conversation about the ego, shadow self, transformation, and wholeness. Together, we reflect on what this bold, wild heroine can teach us about embracing all parts of ourselves.

Among many other topics, we explore:

The Power of Archetypes and Fairytales: How stories like Tatterhood can mirror the deep structure of our psyche—and why they stay with us for decades.

Ego, Shadow, and Wholeness: Understanding how the two sisters in the tale represent a balanced psyche—and what happens when we suppress parts of ourselves.

Transformation Through Initiation: How symbolic moments in the tale, including decapitation (!), speak to the disorientation and rebirth we often experience in adulthood.

Visual Storytelling Through Psychology: Chani shares how she illustrated Tatterhood using principles of Jungian dream analysis, bringing both narrative and subconscious symbolism into her artwork.

Honoring the Shadow Self: Why the “ugly,” “wild,” or “socially unacceptable” parts of us may actually carry our greatest strength and vitality.

Art as Personal and Cultural Reflection: Chani opens up about how five years of MFA study (while raising a family!) helped her deepen her creative process and reconnect with her own story.

Join us for a playful, profound conversation that celebrates the beauty of fairytales, the wisdom of our inner wildness, and the joy of lifelong creativity.

Connect with Chani!

Websites: http://www.chanibecker.com | https://www.hothousedesignandpost.com

In this episode, I’m joined by Chani Becker, a creative, a mama, and a storyteller. We talk about Chani’s background in art, her journey to becoming a creative professional, and her recent work in teaching and illustrating.
The Reckoning and The Rising: Finding Clarity, Courage & Community in Chaos

During a recent YWCA board meeting, I felt the weight of a shared truth—fear and stress are pressing in on all of us. I see it. I feel it. And I refuse to let it have the final say. In times like these, we need spaces that ground us, connect us, and remind us of our own power. That’s why I’m answering the call, stepping into the storm as a light for those who need it. One way I’m doing that is by opening a space every Wednesday night—an open writing group where we can show up, find connection, and turn fear into fuel. We don’t have to do this alone. What do we do to overcome that fear?

A Message in a Dream: The topic of this episode isn't by chance but a call she felt strongly about, especially after receiving insights during sleep.

Personal Development: A personal story of overcoming fear and how it has shaped me into a stronger individual who can now lead others.

Community and Connection: The importance of community, connection, and being present with those around us, especially in

Inner Work: Finding your voice through writing and journaling can significantly help with your personal growth.

Why Your Resolutions Don't Stick (and What You Really Need to Change)

**Podcast Summary:**
In this episode, “Why Your Resolutions Don’t Stick (and What You Really Need to Change),” I take a heartfelt look at my own history with New Year’s resolutions—how they often mirrored my deepest longings, especially around weight loss. I share the realization that flipping the calendar doesn’t magically instill resolve or transform habits overnight. Instead, I explore how our practices and patterns often run much deeper than surface-level goals, reflecting a bigger message we need to address. Tune in for honest reflections and practical advice on creating meaningful change as we step into a new year. Heather N. Wilde
