1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime. Every 68 seconds another American is sexually assaulted. I personally know many women who have been raped or sexually assaulted who never reported it. In fact, I bet more women do not report being raped than do. According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, 7.5 million Americans are stalked annually. BUT, proving a case of stalking is not easy. I know firsthand because I was part of passing the first anti-stalking laws in the country. Victims must prove a laundry list of behavior in order to get their stalker arrested. Obtaining a restraining order is difficult as well. If you are being stalked, you basically need to become your own case manager and work WITH the police to prove a case of Stalking. My guest today did just that and was able to get her stalker arrested, more than once. Lenora Claire was stalked by a man she met ONE TIME, he then began sending her extremely disturbing letters that escalated into graphic rape and death threats that ultimately led to his arrest. EP 15: Neighborhood Watch on Steroids: How one city is battling the war on crime

Every day we see more violent crime happening on our streets and in our neighborhoods. It's happening all over the country. Criminals are being let out of prison at alarming numbers because of covid and other political issues. The "defund the police" movement has large numbers of police retiring at rapid rates, and new recruitment numbers are at an all-time low. This means less police out in the communities and response times for emergencies are extremely slow.

So... what can be done to help protect us against the predatory elements that are roaming the streets of our cities? My guest has developed a great way to fight back against the bad guys. She created "Watch out Philly" an Instagram account that is basically a neighborhood watch on steroids! Women all over the city of Philadelphia send in photos and details of predators they encounter on the street and provide details to warn others about the potential threats. This has even helped police capture and arrest some of these criminals.

A study by the Harvard Business Review states that Sexual Harassment programs have backfired. Since the 1970's most US organizations have sought to address sexual harassment (basically to protect their "you-know-what's" from being sued because of it). They implemented mandatory training programs, also known as forbidden behavior training along with formal grievance procedures which made all the organizations and executives feel that they were taking care of the problem. But yet all these decades later, Sexual Harassment is still with us, as the "Me Too" movement brought to light.

Today, some 40% of women and 16% of men say they have been sexually harassed at work...a number that remarkably has not changed since the 1980's! But, given how widespread grievance procedures and forbidden behavior training have become, why are the numbers still so high?

For insight on this issue, I brought the fabulous and always entertaining USA Today best-selling author and Employment attorney, Jeanette Escuerdo into the studio.
