Preseason is finally over!

Blackhawks won their only preseason game Saturday night. They had all of their main prospects up and they all played well. This squad is going to be incredible in Rockford.
Matt and Mike are convinced it's time to let the young guys in Rockford play as much as possible.
Blackhawks still haven't worked out distributions with Xfinity and major streaming services yet.
Jeremy Swayman signed his extension for 8.25 for 8yrs.

Congratulations to Jeremy Roenick on making it to the Hall of Fame! Way overdue!

Congratulations to the Florida Panthers for winning the Stanley Cup!

Blackhawks made a splash at free agency. Not that they signed the biggest free agents but that they seem to have built some depth around Bedard.

One of the players we're really excited about is Tyler Bertuzzi. He can play first line minutes and play down the lines as well. He's a blood and guts player and can help push the rebuild further.

One question we have is what are the Blackhawks going to do with Lukas Reichel. He showed a lot of promise at the end of the 22-23 season but had a lot of trouble producing in the 23-24 season. That really surprised us, considering the addition of Bedard should have made his production go up.

Matt and Mike go over the last few Blackhawks games. They haven't been pretty. They seem to be having trouble creating offense and only being able to create 1 goal a game.
Teams are scheming against Bedard and it is tough for him to get some space. He is still scoring and doing the best he can to create offense.
Jason Dickenson is also doing an incredible job at scoring himself. He's got 9 goals on the season and has topped his career high a 1/3 into the season.
Alex Vlasic is playing unreal. He's by far our best defenseman right now. Playing well on both ends of the Ice.
Kevin Korchinski is on a Non Roster designation. Taking care of some family issues and we hope everything is alright.
All 3 Hughes brothers are playing at an incredible level right now. We go over all 3 of them and which one we'd start a team with.
We go over the top goalies in the league is well.

Today Mike and Matt go over the End of the first round of the playoffs.

The best first round in a long time!

🏒Florida sends Boston home in 7 games. Incredible series between these 2!

🏒 Dallas sends the Wild home in 6

🏒Toronto finally gets over the hump and sends Tampa home in 6. A really tight series between the 2 even though it only went 6 games. Tampa had a lead in the third period in 2 different games and couldn't hold on. Which looks to have made the difference.

🏒Vegas send Winnipeg home in 5. Vegas steamrolled Winnipeg. Connor Hellebyuk made a statement that he does want to play on a rebuilding team.

🏒Canes send the Islanders home in 6. Islanders made a huge turnaround from last season. That being said the Canes were just too much for them.

🏒Oilers send the Kings home in 6. Leon Draisatl had 7 goals in this series and was incredible. Too much for the Kings to handle.

🏒Kraken pulled an incredible upset against the Avs. Scoring from 14 different players helps during the series.

🏒Last game that needs to be played is New Jersey vs New York. With the emergence of Akira Schmid helping to elevate this New Jersey team and give them life has really helped them. At the time of this podcast being posted this game is yet to be played.

Stanley Cup Playoff Coverage

Today we go over all of the matchups in the Stanley cup playoffs.

This is probably the best opening round of the playoffs in years. All teams seemed to be pretty well matched up, with the exception being the Canes vs Islanders matchup.

One of the surprises this round is the Kraken vs Avalanche series. It has been really entertaining and the Kraken have been playing well against the defending champions.

The LA Kings vs Edmonton series has been really good too. Leon Draisaitl has been playing really well for Edmonton and is keeping them in it.

🏒Reichel's development in the AHL seems to be over for us. We don't think there is much more for him to learn down in the AHL, and he should stay up at the NHL level for the rest of the season.

🏒Rumor has it Auston Mathews wants 15mil for 8yrs on his next contract. With the cap going up big time in the next few years, he could get that money. Now there is also a possibility by that point, if Toronto hasn't made any progress in the playoffs, he'll want to leave.

-Colorado and Blues have been tight. With Binnington out can the Blues hang on?

-EDM is up 2-1 on Calgary. It's time for Matthew Tkachuk to take over this series, or at least make it interesting.

-Carolina and NYR could be interesting. Carolina hasn't won an away game in the playoffs and if they can win one they might take this series.

Sam Lafferty had 2 assists and was noticeable all night.
Tyler Johnson with the shootout winner.
Jeff Greenberg was named associate GM. He was one of the finalists for the GM position. Jamie Faulkners favorite candidate but they decided to go with Kyle Davidson. It appears Kyle Davidson had some conversations with Greenberg and liked what he heard.

Breakdown from The Last 3 Blackhawks games, NHL News

Last 3 Blackhawks games had the usual trends from the season. Lack of scoring, not holding on to a lead, allowing more shots than getting on net.

First game vs the Flames was a good one but they couldn't tie it up to force it to overtime. Toews has been able to produce more as the season has gone on and it makes you wonder if he has a good offseason if he can find some of his previous from that made him a Selke winner.
Second game vs the Coyotes was a pretty entertaining one. Blackhawks tried to figure out a way to lose that one but Patrick Kane and Debrincat put it away in overtime.
Third game vs the Kings wasn't as competitive. King came out of that one and they seem to be playing tough as they try to make the playoffs and go on a run. They may be a team to look out for.

Blackhawks lost to the Predators and Lankinen had a shake game. It's a good idea to have him play the rest of the season and create a competition at the beginning of next season for who will be in goal.

Pat Foley's Last Call, Blackhawks Win, NHL News

Pat Foley called his last game yesterday night and it was a pretty emotional night. The voice of the Blackhawks for 39 years Pat is all Matt and I have ever known as the play by play guy in the booth. He is going to be missed but he certainly deserves his retirement.
Chippy game and was entertaining. The team has taken the comments of not giving up at the end of the season and showed it last night. The guys played with energy and were able to score some goals.

Lankinen didn't have a bad outing but he lost his crease a couple times and he has a hard time when he gets screened. I think grinding out the rest of the season will be good for him and he needs the ice time.

Shootout winner brought the thrills. Debrincat scored for the Hawks and Lankinen stopped all shots his way. Looked solid in the shootout.

Blackhawks have dropped 7 in a row and have 10 games left in the season. They need to play hard and string some wins together so they can hit the offseason on a positive note. Some players are playing for jobs and they are showing it.

Dale Tallon joined Pat Foley in the booth for the game vs Dallas. The 2 were great together back in the day and it was great to see them have one last time together in the booth. Foley's last Hawks game will be April 14th.

Auston Matthews has 50 goals in 50 games, Chris Kreider hit 49 the other day, and Kyle Connor has quietly hit 42 goals.

Finally some good news, Marian Hossa retired as a Blackhawk and they are also going to retire his #81. I think this was a forgone conclusion. He was one of the best Blackhawks of all time and a catalyst that turned a then young Blackhawks team, into a powerhouse.
A few days ago there was a scuffle in Anaheim that had Trevor Zegras feeling a special way. A way were he feels skilled players shouldn't be touch. Matt and Mike dive into that.

Blackhawks had a good road trip, Strome 10G in last 10gm's, Fan Questions

Blackhawks had a good road trip where they won 2 of 3.

Hawks vs Kings 4-3 W:

Delia's officially named the backup for the rest of the season. He had a strong outing making 43 saves against a playoff team.
Goals from Kane, Debrincat, and Lafferty.
Debrincat had the shoot out game winner.

Solid play by the team. Finishing games has been hard for them but they put this one away late.

Hawks vs Vegas 5-4 Loss:

First 2 periods the Hawks were playing good hockey. Lankinen played well and was looking good in net. Then in the third period Vegas scored 3 goals in 2:59. This turned into an OT loss in a game they should have won.

Kane, Strome, and Debrincat line looked good.
Goals from Kubalik, Toews, Strome, and Debrincat.
Kubalik had a nice goal and put some good shots on net. He's been having a problem with shot accuracy this season but looked better yesterday.

NHL news:

After watching the flames light up the oilers , matt has jumped on the flames wagon . It’s to hard to cheer for a central team , and everybody out west in the pacific except the flames is playing average or awful .

The Blackhawks lost a close game vs Boston. They were outshot by a large margin but the game was closer than that. Marc Andre Fleury stood on his head but it wasn't enough to get us the win.

Matt and Mike went over who we have and and what we can possibly get in return. Toronto has some needs in goalie and defense. Could Fleury and Dehaan get moved to Toronto? Rumors are swirling around that they might.

The Anaheim Ducks are circling around Dominik Kubalik. Maybe he needs a change of scenery to get going again because he has a good shot, he just can't get it on net this year.

We got Jake Hahn on the show today to talk show NHL with Mike and Matt. The boys go over:

-The situation in Toronto. The spot light is a little hotter in Toronto and with Jack Campbell hurt and not playing well recently, are the Maple Leafs going to panic? There are expectations for this team and at the bare minimum, a first round playoff win needed.

-Will Edmonton get past the first round. They, like Toronto, have 2 of the best players playing for their team. The problem is they have a GM that doesn't address their needs, and no Miko Koskinen is not the answer to their goaltending needs. Does Edmonton have a chance of making it out of the first round?

-What is going on in Vegas? Vegas has had the injury bug bad this year. It makes you wonder if they should just shut it down for the year considering how many injuries they have.

-Jack Eichel still not playoff bound? Jack is finally out of Buffalo and may still not taste the playoffs this year.

-Detroit's slow rebuild and Mo Seider gets our vote for rookie of the year. Stevie Y has done such a great job developing this team and Mo Seider is a big part of it. The Blackhawks can take a page out of their book and draft the proper players and develop them the way Detroit has. We think they could be competitive as soon as next season or the one after.

The Future of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. What contracts would look good for these 2. Would it be better for Tazer to retire?
Should it be a full tear down or keep the core. We make a case for both.
Is Derek King the right coach for a rebuild? The players seem to respect him but is he the guy to coach this team through a rebuild and to contention hockey.
Blackhawks bring back Norm Maciver. He was working with the Kracken but has come back to The Blackhawks in the associate GM role. This is a good move because it helps Davidson see some different perspectives. Davidson is a numbers guy and Maciver is a hockey mind.

Genna has a youthful energy and an ability to ask good questions to players during interviews. She is constantly working on her craft to one day be a play by play announcer, which undoubtedly she will be.

Blackhawks have been off and play their next game Friday night against the New Jersey Devils.( dougie Hamilton is back to push for that Stanley cup)

Jonathan Toews, Tyler Johnson, Reese Johnson are skating. It’s notable that Tazer is skating which means he’s progressing with his concussion symptoms. Tyler Johnson is also very close to returning. Reese Johnson and Riley Stillman still out
Tyler Johnson had the same surgery as Jack Eichel.
Notably Lankinen has been activated and his first game back but not sure when his first game will be.
Jake McCabe is out with an injury and will not play against the Devils. An apparent back injury .
JuJhar Khaira underwent successful back surgery and will be out for 10-12 weeks.
Bobby Hull out as ambassador. Who could be brought on?

Rough 0-0 game to watch. A Goalie duel that Fleury was excellent in but didn’t get much help.
Defense seems to be playing much better compared to how they played at the beginning of the year but the offense seems to hit and miss sometimes.

Patrick Kane had a beautiful goal on Bob. Took advantage of him going down early and not hugging the post.

Blackhawks News:

Toews to IR and Lukas Reichel gets called up. Purpose is to help spark some offense. Hawks shutout first game up lol!!! He’s not the single reason they didn’t score, I just found that funny.
Lukas Reichel will practice with the team this week but may not play on Friday.

Blackhawks vs Winnipeg Jets:

3-1 win for the Blackhawks. Wish we could go on a winning streak!

Goals from Kaner, Debrincat, and Hagel.
Kirby Dach had 2 helpers . Kane had 1, Fleury had 1, and McCabe had 1.
Debrincat had a killer wrister for his 28th of the season, 5th in the league in goals.
Fleury had 31 Saves.
Sam Lafferty had a nice opportunity in close in the first period. I think this guy has a lot of potential, just needs to break through.
Murphy had a pretty good game. Saved an opportunity in the first. Fleury had mad 2 saves and the puck was in front of an open net. Murphy in for the clear.

Marc Andre Fleury had a interesting interview with Phil Thompson from the Chicago Sun-times.
Blackhawks have been said to have interest in Teresa Resch. She is the Toronto Raptors VP of Basketball Operations &Player Development.

Blackhawks beat the Oilers in their first game back from the All-Star Game.

Jason Ross will cover the next 2 games. Hope to see him and Nick O call a game together.
Hawks win 4-1 vs Oilers

Breakdown of the Game

First period was good. We had 2 goals with the first 5 minutes of the game.
Second period was a different story. Seemed like we were on our heals the whole period
Third period was good. E Kane had a hit on Debrincat that sent us to the power play and we score to extend the lead. Then the Dach Goal put it out of reach.

Notes From the Game

Duncan Keith was knocked out from being spun around during a fast play and heading into the boards.
Dach’s play has improved and hopefully finding his groove.
Hagel is scoring consistently. Hopefully this because common and he gives us the secondary scoring we desperately need.
Lafferty is noticeable game in and game out. Love the effort from this guy and you can tell he wants to stay in the lineup.
MAF played great all game. Really kept us in it and it seems like he was seeing the puck very well.
Great start to the second half of the season.

The Blackhawks went 1-1 in the last 2 games. 8 goals in the first game and zero in the next. Just adds to the frustration that not only the fans but the players feel.

Blackhawks are looking to name their next GM on Tuesday. Rumor has it, it is going to be Kyle Davidson. There is a lot of mixed emotion about that but he could be a good choice.
Kane and Hagel had big games against the Devils.
Seems like PK Subban is a different player since going to the Devils. Not in a good way.
No one had a big game against the blues.

Today we go over the last 3 games. L to Wild 5-1, L to Wild 4-3, L to Avs 2-0. There are some positive takeaways.

-Lankinen seems to be developing well spending this season with Marc Andre Fleury. He came into the 5-1 Wild loss down 4-0 and held them off. He followed that performance with 4-3 OT loss to the wild. He was strong against a tough team. Unfortunately he got he is on the IR now with an injury sustained in the Wild game.

-Jonathan Toews seems to be asserting himself more and more as time has gone on. We mentioned before he's been playing better and it doesn't seem to be a 1 game fluke.

-Fleury played great against the AV's but the Hawks couldn't score any goals.

-Does Calvin DeHaan get moved? He’s playing like a man who needs a contract, so if the Hawks get a good offer should they pull the trigger on it?

-Probably the biggest trade piece we have is Marc Andre Fleury. Colorado and Edmonton could be the teams to watch.

-The Blackhawks played their first Pre-Season game on Wednesday and it was a good game. A lot of players looked good and some were not so noticeable. We go over what we thought of play.

-A lot of speculation on whether fans would take Seth Jones or Dougie Hamilton. Matt and Mike go over both players and who they would rather have.

-Zach Parise and Ryan Suter were bought out of their contracts. Neither were happy. We think there is going to be a big market for Suter. He is still a great defenseman who has a lot to add even at his age. Parise on the other hand has had a decline and may end up with the Islanders.

-Shea Weber has a bunch of injuries that he is dealing with. Foot, Ankle, knee, and thumb injuries. These injuries may force him to retire because he may not be able to play next year. Not sure if this is going to happen just speculation.

-Well, it finally happened, Duncan Keith was traded. It's a tough pill to swallow but it was going to happen. He requested a trade last week and wanted to be moved northwest so he could be closer to his family, who lives in Canada. I'm not sure why Ken Holland made this move but I think we got a good player back in Caleb Jones and a third-round draft pick.

-Tampa Bay won the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive year and Kucherov is having the time of his life. With tough decisions looming they will not be bringing the same group back next year.

-Chicago Blackhawks defensemen grades. Matt and Mike grade the Blackhawks defensemen and go over what they think needs to change.

Tamps has an incredible team but this team that is playing in the playoffs is 18 million over the cap and they are going to have to make some tough decisions. Who stays and who goes?

NHL Journalism seems to speak to favorably about their own team and not give very honest opinions of the product that is put out on the ice. I understand that they can't bad mouth their own players but there needs to be honest assessments of how players play on the ice.

We speak briefly about the tragic death of Matiss Kivlenieks. He was killed from fireworks on the 4th of July. Hearts and prayers are with his family.

Tampa is up 3-1 on Montreal. I really hope Montreal can keep it going and make this more of a series. They got this far as the underdog and I'd like so see them go all the way.

Dylan Strome doesn't fit in the Blackhawks lineup. He had an oppurutnity last year when the Blackhawks top 2 centers were out and he couldn't take advantage of the situation and found himself a healthy scratch at times last year.

Kaprisov and the Wild are going to be talking contracts. They were worried because he was in Moscow and they don't want the KHL to lure him over with a truck full of money.

Eichel and the Sabres are nearing agreement on his treatment for his herniated disk. This is a situation to follow because he wants out of Buffalo.

-Matt and Mike discuss the bridge deal and hoping it comes back.

Jonathan Toews was out all year with a mysterious illness and he issued a statement yesterday. He is planning on playing next year which is great news for a team that needs some.

Tampa is up 2 games on the Habs. Habs looked better in the second game but it looks like a big up hill battle for them.

It is rumored that Duncan Keith and The Blackhawks are working on a trade to the Pacific Northwest. He is winding down his career and he wants to be close to his son who is getting older. If this is true it's hard to see him go but completely understandable.

We also go over some cap scenarios for the Hawks. They haven't had this much cap space to deal with in a long time and we are really curious to see what they do.

Tampa and Montreal start the Stanley Cup Finals tonight. We may never see 2 east teams play for the Stanley Cup again so this should be interesting. Tampa is so powerful offensively and Montreal has such a good goalie something has to give.

There have been sexual harassment allegations against the Blackhawks that have a dark cloud hovering over the organization. Who is responsible and what was done. We talk about the information we have and our opinions moving forward.

Habs beat the Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime! I don't think anyone picked this team to go this far in the playoffs and they aren't done yet.

Islanders force a game 7 with the Lightning after an OT win themselves. What a series between these 2 teams. Looks like Kucherov is questionable after a cross check he took in game 6.

Pat Foley is retiring after 39 years of calling Blackhawks games. Matt gives us what he believes his real reason for retiring and we converse about that for a bit.

Nikita Zadorov wants 5 million to come back. In all honesty we think he can walk if he wants that kind of money. The Hawks should be thinking about trading for Seth Jones and not signing Zadorov back.

Tampa leads Islanders 3-2, Habs and Vegas are tied 2-2.

Tampa really blew out the Islanders in their last game 8-0. They did this to the Hurricanes as well when before going into an elimination game. Lets see if this win will blow all the wind out of the Islanders sails or if they answer back in game 6.

Habs and Vegas has been real close. Lehner got the start in the last game and he really played well and shut the door. Because of that Vegas was able to tie the series up at 2 games a piece.

Hawks have entered the Jack Eichel rumor mill. Word is Buffalo wants Dach in any package and I don't think that would be wise for the Hawks to ship off Dach before we get to see his full development.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Florida Panthers April 29th & May 1st

The Chicago Blackhawks dropped both games against Florida. 2 games that should have been won but deficiencies on defense and some soft goals essentially doomed the team.

Alex Debrincat played very well and so did a lot of the young guys. Adam Gaudette has played well since he has been playing with the team and seems to be pushing to stay on the roster. I think there is going to be a lot of competition next year for roster spots amongst the youth on the team.

Going forward we'd like to see if Colin Delia can get an oppurtunity to play. We already know what we have with Kevin Lankinen and Malcolm Subban. He had one start at the beginning of the year and that was it.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Tampa Bay and Andrew Shaw's Retirement

Andrew Shaw retired yesterday after lingering issues with concussions. He has been dealing with these problems for a couple years now and the Doctors said it was time to hang the skates up. He had a great career with the Blackhawks and will always be remembered on for being a part of 2 cup runs.

The Blackhawks lost to Tampa Bay tonight and it was a rough game. Goalies had a bad night but the Hawks put up a lot of shots on goal. Lankinen seems to have lost his confidence.

Adam Boqvist also got hurt and had to head off to the locker room with what appears to be a wrist injury.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Detroit Apr 15th & 17

The Chicago Blackhawks played the Detroit Redwings in their last series and lost the first one 4-1 and won the second one 4-0. Kevin Lankinen was in goal for the loss and Malcolm Subban was in net for the win.

Where are we with the backup goalie situation? It's clear Lankinen is our starter but Subban has been wildly inconsistent and Delia only got one opportunity to play.

One bright spot has been the additions from Florida. Vinnie Hinostroza has been playing excellent and Riley Stillman have made an impact.

The Chicago Blackhawks won both games against Columbus and got some much needed points. Nashville has been on a tear and we need to keep pace with them.

We had a few new players play today and Brett Connolly made the biggest impression with a great goal in the third period. The Hawks need to play hard to stay in the hunt to make the playoffs.

Not a very active trade deadline but we have all the trades that took place.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Carolina Hurricanes March 30th & April 1st

The Chicago Blackhawks split the series with the Hurricanes but could have taken both games. The Hawks won the first game and lost a heart breaker in the last one.

The Blackhawks have been getting out shot in many of their games and it seems like carrying the puck into the offensive zone seems to be a problem.

Going forward they need to tighten up on defense and defensemen need to start getting pucks on net and creating more chances.

Chicago Blackhawks Beat Florida, Tank Against Nashville

The Chicago Blackhawks recently have been an up down team. It was looking questionable going against Florida right after losing to Tampa but the Blackhawks pulled out 2 wins. It was great. They looked solid and played hard. Brandon Hagel was a force to be reckoned with, Patrick Kane was great, the rest of the team played their role.

Then came Nashville.......

It was the complete opposite. They seemed to not play with the same vigor that they did against Florida. They lost a lot of puck battles and a lot of shots on goal to a team that I don't think is very good. They didn't play hard until the third period in the second and game that wasn't enough to pull out a win.

They move on to play Carolina and hopefully they can answer the bell because this team is tough.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Florida Panthers March 13th &15th

The Blackhawks lost both games to the Panthers. The Panthers looked tough and played well. The Blackhawks had streaks where they looked good but took to many penalties and could not hold on to a lead.

The Chicago Blackhawks dropped the first game 5-3 but made a statement in the 2nd game winning 7-2.

Effort wasn't an issue in the first game just had some bad puck luck. Redwings didn't play very well except for Marc Staal. He played great and did everything he could for the wings.

Patrick Kane scored his 400th goal last night and he played great as usual.

Lankinen started the 1st game and Subban won the second game. 1 thing noticeable is after the game all the guys seem to be happy playing with each other and its great to see these guys become a team.

Today we breakdown the last game which was a heartbreaker. Blackhawks battled but ended up taking too many penalty's.

The Chicago Blackhawks are 7-1-1 in their last 9 games! It has been a great effort from the first line down to the 4th. Special Teams has been great and goaltending has been stellar.

The Redwings played the Blackhawks pretty tough and gave a great effort. Their goaltending kept them in the games. If it wasn't for that it would have been much worse.
